Today is the second half of my conversation with watercolorist Carrie Waller. If you haven’t heard Part A, I would recommend starting there as we get into Waller’s process and outlook and a whole bunch of other great stuff that lays the groundwork today’s part B.
In today’s episode, we get into the technical. Waller paints beautiful glass and she talks about the pitfalls she sees her students (and herself) running into with glass. You’ll also learn about the importance of artist friends and some tips on creating stronger compositions in your own work.

I’ve divided the episodes up into two parts. In part A (today’s) Waller talks about being OK with finishing paintings slowly. She explains how she uses color- like puzzle pieces- in her work. And she shares the method she uses to bypass those ugly middles stages that can demoralize so many of us.
In part B we get into the specifics of glass, the importance of art friends and why sometimes you just need to take one of those technical art classes. It’ll pay off later big time.
