On this episode, Charlotte welcomes an old colleague. Pat Miller has been a dog trainer for over forty years. She is the founder of Peaceable Paws Dog & Puppy Training Center and author of The Power Of Positive Dog Training.
"A “cross-over” trainer, Pat started her long dog-training career using “old-fashioned” methods that relied on the use of force-based tools and methods – jerks on the choke chain, harsh verbal corrections – and successfully earned numerous obedience titles with a variety of dogs, including a Rough Collie, a Bull Terrier, an Australian Kelpie, a Pomeranian, and Josie, her wonderful Terrier mix. It was Josie who convinced her to cross over to force-free methods, and she is now fully committed to science-based, positive reinforcement training."

On this episode of Living With Your Dog, Charlotte welcomes one of her favorite mentors. Susan Thixton, founder of the Association for Truth in Pet Food, is a consumer advocate fighting to hold the pet food industry accountable to existing food safety regulations. Susan has been battling with the FDA, AAFCO and State pet food regulatory authorities on behalf of pet food consumers for more than 10 years.
"Just like so many pet owners, Susan learned the ‘truth’ about pet foods the hard way. Her four legged best friend, Sam, died from bone cancer. From that day forward, Susan studied the pet food industry. She now provides pet food consumers with a voice at pet food regulatory meetings. TruthaboutPetFood.com began in 2004. Pet food consumers can visit and access thousands of free educational articles. Including resources on pet food safety and regulations, ingredients, testing, recalls, laws, and more."

On this episode of Living With Your Dog, Charlotte is giddy as we welcome one of her most influential mentors, Dr. Ian Billinghert. Dr. Billinghurst is an internationally renowned Veterinary Surgeon, graduate animal nutritionist, author and lecturer and founder of the BARF Diet (Bones And Raw Food).
"Nutritionist, Acupuncturist, Agricultural Scientist, Author, Lecturer, Nutritional consultant and RAW Pet Food Producer. Dr Ian Billinghurst has worked in companion animal practice since 1975. In the mid 1980’s, following years of clinical research, he was shocked to realize the devastating effect that commercial foods had on dog and cat health and amazed at the dramatic healing power of RAW. From this clinical research came Dr Ian’s first book, “Give Your Dog a Bone”, which was the original RAW food book for dogs. This book, together with his lecture tours to the UK, US, Canada, Japan (and further books), became the spark, which ignited the worldwide RAW pet food movement. Dr Ian Billinghurst is recognized as the “Father” of “RAW” and the founder of the BARF (Biologically appropriate Raw Food) Diet. Dr Billinghurst remains as passionate as ever about Health—through Evolutionary Nutrition—with his current lectures and writings emphasizing the basic truth… “Nutrition… it’s absurdly simple.”"
