Lovecars On the Grid. Global Motorsport Podcast
Welcome to episode 41 of the Lovecars on the grid podcast! Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman bring us another roundup of motorsport events!
This week, we have a reigning, Formula 1 World Champion in Japan, there's an FIA meltdown, plus W Series, NASCAR, a new BTCC World Champion, Superbikes and more!
We start this week to pay tribute to Chrissy Rouse, who sadly succumbed to injuries from an incident at Donington Park last weekend. We also pay tribute to Phil Read. The 83 year old was a 7 time World Moto GP Champion. Our thoughts are with their family and friends.
In an announcement in the W Series, it's been announced that the series won't be racing in the USA or Mexico due to lack of funding. Jamie Chadwick is champion again for the 3rd, massive congratulations!
We had the most bizarre weekend at Suzuka in Japan with Formula 1. With the wet weather, we had no DRS, yet Max Verstappen was still able to take the Formula 1 World Championship for the 2nd time. There was confusion over the points at the end of the race and how many laps were left to go.
During the race, the organisers allowed a recovery crane on the track. How did that happen? Visibility was awful, and we had marshalls and recovery vehicles on track during a live race!
Then we come to issue with Red Bull's overspending! Although it hasn't been released how much the F1 team overspent on their development, it was declared by the FIA as a minor overspend, but what was the amount? Will Max Verstappen take the record for the most wins in a Formula 1 season?
British Touring Cars also crowned their World Champion this weekend. Following a thrilling season finale at Brands Hatch, Tom Ingram took his first World Championship.
World Superbikes still have 3 rounds to go, following a weekend at Portimao. Razgatlioglu claimed two wins on his Ducati, whilst the 3rd race win went to Alvaro Bautista, who edges closer to his Championship victory.
NASCAR brought us drama in Charlotte, with 4 drivers being knocked out, including reigning champion, Carl Larson. The race win went to Christopher Bell, putting him into the playoffs and kicking out Larson!
Next week, we have some amazing racing to look forward to! Moto GP at Phillip Island, NASCAR in Las Vegas, plus Caterham Racing at both Silverstone and Spa Francorchamps in Belgium!
