The officially unofficial podcast for AMC’s Mad Men. News, Episode Recaps and Analysis, your feedback and more, all about the Mad Men TV series.
The podcast Mad Men Happy Hour is created by Bald Move. The podcast and the artwork on this page are embedded on this page using the public podcast feed (RSS).
Hey there, long time no talk Mad Men, huh? I’m here to officially say that we’re not going to be doing the Mad Men retrospective we discussed on the wrap up podcast. Bummer, I know, but! We do have a cool piece of content that was going to be part of that coverage, a behind the scenes interview with Mad Men editor Tom Wilson, which we recorded very shortly after the series concluded. Tom worked on 25 episodes of Mad Men during his time with the show, and has also worked on episodes of Rome, Halt and Catch Fire, and Castle to name a few. I’m very sorry to our fans and to Tom that this is so late getting out, but it has too many great tidbits and background info for Mad Men fans to keep locked up in our vault forever.

Tune in and found out our thoughts on the ending of Mad Men, the future of our Mad Men coverage, who’s “okay” and who’s “not okay”, our favorite episodes, songs, and seasons, and how Mad Men stacks up against it’s Golden Age of Television competition. We’ll be back in a few days or weeks with an interview of Tom Wilson, editor of “Person to Person” among many other classic Mad Men episodes, which you can pass on some questions to using our contact links below. And starting in June, be on the lookout for our season by season retrospective coverage of Mad Men. Hope we see you there!

Jim and A.Ron think the end of the finale episode of AMC’s Mad Men, entitled “Person to Person”, leaves a lot of room for interpretation, for both cynicism and optimism…

What was our take? A little bit of both, to be honest. Listen to hear us talk about how we felt watching Mad Men come to a close, the parts that tugged our heart strings, the parts that had us squealing like school girls, saying our goodbyes to our favorite characters, and paying our ultimate respects to one Matthew Weiner. Thank you for making this excellent show, sir. That might be all for Mad Men, but it is most definitely NOT the last you’ve heard from the Happy Hour. Tune in next week for a series wrap up podcast, and also to hear news for our plans with Mad Men in the months to come. See you then!

Jim and A.Ron are here to help you sort through the complex feelings we’re all getting at the prospect of Pete getting the happiest of potential Mad Men endings, as we unpack the tragic and yet strangely hopeful penultimate episode entitled “The Milk and Honey Route”…

We discuss small town hustles, German cannibalism, Betty’s dignity and grace in the face of genuine crisis — no, really! — Sally’s forced evolution into the role of mother, and Duck’s high stakes game of career poker with Pete, Pete trading in the Pit for a life of redemption and bliss reunited with his family in Wichita, and Don finally embracing the hobo lifestyle that has called out to him since his boyhood. It’s a terrific, complex, moving episode that sets us up beautifully for the end. We’ll be with you the whole way, not just next week for the finale, but the week after too, as we indulge in a series finale podcast spectacular. See you then!

Two more to go, people! Savor it!
Special thanks to Tara P. for graciously curating and providing this awesome Spotify link that has all of the music from Mad Men! And it’s in chronological order by episode… wow!

Hello there! Would you care to discuss the latest Mad Men, episode 711, “Time and Life”? Well, you’ve come to the right place, friend…

We discuss Lane Pryce directing the latest Pete Punch, Peggy and Stan’s epic summit on gender relations, how it feels to root for Pete (“not great, Bob!”), the Weiner’s judo move he pulled on us as the audience, and where we’re going entering the back half of the back half of season seven. All this, and tons of superb feedback from what is in our humble opinion the greatest fan community on the internet, and much, much more. See you again next week!

This edition of the Happy Hour looks at the episode “The Forecast”, which is number 710 of AMC’s Mad Men… In which we discuss Don and Betty in a race for creepiest teenage predator, ponder the future, ask if the emptiness is a problem, watch the one man 70’s fashion show that is Joan’s hot date Richard, and watch Mathis flame out of advertising in the most spectacular and entertaining way possible. We typically get stellar emails for Mad Men, but this mail bag might be historically great, as our fellow watchers really do some good work on Don and Dianne analysis, and get pop-psych over the Peter Pan Syndrome. See you next week!

We recap where we are at the start of the season, and give our hopes and fears for our favorite characters, then consider some of your feedback on same. Can the Weiner stick the landing? Is that even an important question for a show like Mad Men? What would failure look like, anyway? Who’s hooking up, who’s left standing, what kind of man will Don/Dick ultimately be in the final assessment? All this and more as we gear up to give the series the send off it deserves. See you Sunday night!

Quality of Mercy? Let me tell you what the quality of mercy is. It’s not shooting a man in the face and it’s not keeping a gay man under your thumb and pretending you’re doing him a favor. The quality of mercy is finally posting a podcast at 1:30am on a weeknight after hours of recording, re-recording and editing. That, my friends, is the quality of mercy. And I’m feeling pretty damned merciful right now.

Is it really so impossible to imagine? If a podcast took care of you, very good care of you… if this podcast would do anything for you, if your entertainment was its only thought, is it impossible that you might begin to feel something for it? *knees move* *eyes narrow* Well, how about we forget that happened and you give us one month’s pay toward our Kickstarter?

I’ve got it. It’s the perfect pitch…
It’s June in New York. A man is wildly tapdancing in front of his boss. A mysterious man named Ed knowingly shoots a man with a history of heart problems full of amphetamines. The amphetamines are the desire in each of us to make a pass at Peggy. And the tapdancing? Fucked if I know!

Bald Move would like to announce a merger between comedy and insight that we’re calling Mad Men Happy Hour. This joining of forces will allow us to cover a variety of topics including the future of SCDP, the consistency of junkie poop and the biggest, blackest hooker you’ve ever seen.

What does it take to get Jim to do hours of research on the history of race in America? A damned fine episode of Mad Men, that’s what. And what does it take to get him to make dick jokes with his co-host for the last third of a podcast? That same episode of Mad Men, apparently.

Come with me on a quick tour of the Pete Pit, what some consider the tenth circle of hell.
On your left you’ll see Don “The Cheater” Draper. Not only does he have the insolence to call his wife a whore, but he possesses the gall to immediately then sleep with his mistress.
On your right, Pete “GLP” Campbell, the man who puts the “Grimy”, “Little” and “Pimp” in “Grimy Little Pimp”. His heinous acts are well known and bear no repeating, beside being unfit for any audience.
And in the center, Timmy “Ketchup” Jablonski. We obviously don’t know much about him yet but unless you enjoy your ring finger doused in saliva like a ketchup-covered Oscar Mayer, you probably shouldn’t conduct your business with him.

“At the Codfish Ball” was a solid Mad Men episode, and we tear right into it in this podcast. Everyone comes away disappointed in this episode… Don finds out he’s an advertising pariah, Sally learns that adults are unbelievably gross, Megan learns that even when life is at it’s best, maybe it’s not all that good, Roger is better bagging French MILFs than new business, and A.Ron learns that alcohol can actually kill crucial brain cells in the span of an 80 minute podcast. Turn on, tune in, and drop out with Jim and A.Ron as we cover the trippy, spacey, and all around awesome hour of television that is Mad Men episode 506, “Far Away Places”.
