Mass Timber Construction Podcast Special Guest - Craig Honeyman - Australian Timber Industry Qualifications

20 min • 21 september 2021

In this extraordinary episode of the Mass Timber Construction Podcast, I speak with Craig Honeyman, the Managing Director of the Accurate Group. Craig is on a mission to  collect data on the number of Wood Machinist apprentices in the coming years to ensure the viability and longevity of a specific trade qualification. People make an industry and the need to continue to develop a pathways to support forestry careers to ensure the support of the mass timber and other timber-based markets is critical.

As the timber industry continues to evolve and develop, education has become one of the strongest pillars in the arsenal of many large operations. Qualified Wood Machinists are currently listed on the National Skills Needs List and are eligible for employer incentives under the Australian Apprenticeships Incentives Program.  Wood machining is at serious risk of being declassified as a trade. This will have significant repercussions for the Timber Industry and the quality of product we are able to produce in the future.

If you can support the collection of data for the survey, please click here https://stirlingmachinery.com.au/register-wood-machining-apprentices/ and complete the form to support and evidenced based approach to the regulators to ensure wood machinery as a trade qualification is maintained.
