Mass Timber Construction Podcast
In this week's update, the covers have now come down to reveal the true beauty of the design and construct by Gardner Vaughan Group using the elegant combination of black and gold on the exterior. A recent report produced by the federal government, The State of the Mass Timber Industry in Canada (SMTC) in 2021, displays through an interactive map close to 500 under construction or completed mass timber projects from 2007 to 2019 for a total of 16 million square feet. The heavy timber pieces are being assembled in downtown Milwaukee for what is expected to become the world’s tallest building with a manufactured wood structure. SOS is a pioneer as the first public building in Chicago to fully utilise, and gained permit to use, Cross Laminated Timber (CLT). As a renewable and reusable material, it can be recovered at the end of the building life and reused in other buildings. A $140 million apartment tower proposed in Milwaukee’s 3rd Ward advanced with a key design approval on Wednesday. Proposed by international developer Hines, the new building with 295 apartments would replace a parking lot with river frontage at Water Street and St. Paul Avenue. Have a great week!
