In just a few days, we are heading to one of the year's most important Canadian Agility Championships. So, the time has come to think about the mindset and mental game needed to set ourselves up for the best chance at success!

Kayl McCann & Jamie Moreau sat down with fellow McCann Dog Agility Coaches Steve Walsh & Angela McRae to do an extensive debrief session of Ange's first trip to the European World Championships to represent Team Canada! In this episode we're joined by our dear friend and fellow competitor, Dave Munnings. Dave travelled all the way from England to visit us for some Agility training, so we captured him for a few podcast episodes!

We met Dave years ago while competing overseas at the Agility World Championships & due to our similar humour PLUS our views on dog training & agility, we connected almost immediately. It was no surprise we were also on the same page when it came to people's "Attitude" in Agility.

We talked all about the many situations where someone with a negative attitude can affect you whether it be at a class or competition. We also talked about the different mindsets that allow for optimal learning and growth as a handler. We shared some pretty great stories too!

We are delighted to bring you this episode of the After Class Podcast!  Today we REAL TALK with Mental Game Coach, Kathy Keats.  Kathy has years of experience competing internationally in both Basketball,  Dog Agility & Sheep Dog Trails.  She has helped a wide range of people to achieve their goals and learn to overcome those mental obstacles that hold us back.

In this episode we're diving deep into the age old question "HOW DO I GET MY DOG TO HAVE CONSISTANT CONTACT PERFORMANCE IN BOTH TRAINING & TRIALS?".  It's VERY common for dogs to have 2 set's of "criteria". The dog sport of Agility is amazing……you know what else is amazing? How athletic, nimble and daring our dogs are!  This is something that we all need to think about & appreciate. What we ask of our dogs in Agility and how willing they are to go above & beyond is truly remarkable.

Sadly though, injures are happening more frequently in the sport. Injuries can be caused by many things and can happen in all levels & organizations of Agility. Kayl & Jamie both train & compete at the International level. They've noticed that over the years, courses have become more challenging, the dogs are getting faster, handlers are training more intensely and without awareness of injury, this all raises the possibility of our dogs having a shortened career.

In this episode, Kayl & Jamie talk about the personal experience they’ve had with their own dogs being injured, signs to look for to know your dog could have an issue, and prevention ideas that will be great to hear, regardless of your experience with the sport.

Our dogs safety comes first, always!

We are SO excited to have our very first guest on the Podcast.  Jaakko Suoknuutti is an accomplished Agility Handler & Coach who is widely respected in the Sport of Agility.  He & his partner Janita Leinonen are the creators of the popular handling methodology OneMind Dogs.  They've both been a part of Team Finland for many years and earned many world championship titles.    

Jaakko and Kayl met back in 2012 and became fast friends.  Kayl spent many years traveling to Finland to train and Jaakko would travel to Canada to coach the McCann Dogs Agility group.   Jaakko has the unique ability to see an Agility course from the dogs perspective which gives him the ability to teach, handle, design courses and coach students at a whole new level.   We are very honoured to have him as our guest today!
