Growing up in a secular environment, David encountered challenges such as bullying and a significant bout of depression during his time in sixth grade, which ultimately fueled his immersion in atheism. 

 

David experienced a spiritual awakening that led him towards Judaism and the teachings of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov. 

 

Despite enduring intense depression and hospitalization, David eventually found solace through practices such as Hitbodedut and participation in the 12-step program. He emphasizes the importance of authenticity in communication and fostering a genuine connection with spirituality, offering insightful anecdotes and outlining his aspirations for a more inclusive Yeshiva initiative.

Dr. Ari Bergmann is the founder and Managing Principal of Penso Advisors, LLC, a New York-based global macro and risk management boutique specializing in derivatives structuring/trading and systemic risk mitigation. Prior to founding the firm in 1997, Dr. Bergmann was a Senior Managing Director at Bankers Trust. 

 

Ari received a BTL from Ner Israel Rabbinical College in 1981 and furthered his graduate studies at many prestigious Yeshivot in Israel. He holds an MA and Ph.D. in Comparative Religion from Columbia University, where he studied with Professors Yosef Hayim Yerushalmi and David Weiss Halivni. Ari is an Adjunct Professor at Yeshiva University and before coming to YU, he taught at Columbia University and at the University of Pennsylvania. Ari lectures extensively in Israel, Brazil, Europe and the US on topics of Finance, Talmud and Jewish Thought. The premier publisher of Chassidus Chabad in English, Sichos In English was founded in 5738 (1978) to accommodate the growing demand for English translation of the Rebbe’s frequent talks. The Rebbe welcomed this initiative and guided the translation process, at times personally editing entire talks or essays directly for the SIE publication.

Miriam Peretz is an Israeli educator and public speaker.

 After the deaths of two of her sons during their service in the Israel Defense Forces, Peretz became a lecturer on Zionism and living with loss. She was the recipient of the Israel Prize in 2018, for lifetime achievement.

In May 2021, Peretz announced that she would run for President of Israel in the 2021 election as an Independent candidate. She ended up losing the election to Isaac Herzog.

Mordechai Shapiro was born in 1989 in Monsey, New York. Born into a musical family, his father is a chazzan and his mother has a background as a trained opera singer. He learned in yeshiva in Ashar, Netiv Aryeh, and Yeshivas Bais Yisroel.

Shapiro made his musical debut as the star soloist of the Miami Boys Choir. After leaving the choir, Shapiro took a break from music until his voice transitioned sufficiently. He was a student of legendary voice teacher William Riley. He worked in other jobs and was a regular at birthday parties, bar mitzvahs, engagements, and as a one-man-band. Eventually, he began performing at weddings and other Jewish events as an independent artist. 

Mordechai is one of Jewish music’s hottest and most gifted performers. He also teaches music at HANC. He has been described as having the "ability to do things with his voice no one else in this business can". As an artist, Shapiro takes pride in the fact that his songs are message-oriented, “In every song that I sing, there is a distinct message of positivity and joy that I aspire to promote through my music.”

Tzili Schneider is a veteran teacher, a member of the Orthodox mainstream, the mother of eleven and a woman who cares. Deeply.

 

Tzili grew up in Meah Shearim surrounded by all shades and hues of Jewish life. She remembers as a little girl dancing joyfully with soldiers following the capture of the Kosel at the end of the six-day war.

 

As she grew up, Tzili noted that the general atmosphere in Israel outside the sheltered alleyways of her youth was diametrically different. She began to encounter hostility and mistrust, dissension and stigma.

 

In fact, when she worked as a teacher, she rode the public bus every day alongside another staff member. But they never spoke because Tzili was religious and the other woman was not.

 

Tzili desperately wanted to do something to bring her people together again.

 

In 2012, she fulfilled her dream. She founded Kesher Yehudi, a groundbreaking platform for diverse sectors to meet and connect through Torah learning.

 

Kesher Yehudi welcomes all segments of the Jewish nation with love, providing the support and tools necessary to foster personal connections and long-term unity.

 

With her relentless determination, Tzili has created an unprecedented movement that has transformed lives and changed Israeli society for the better.

Yonatan Razel was born in New York and moved to Israel at a young age with his family.

He won "Singer of the Year" and "Song of the Year" from Ynet in the fall of 2007. Yonatan gained fame in 2009 for setting the Jewish liturgical poem "Vehi Sheamda" to music for Yaakov Shwekey.

Israeli Charedi radio station Kol Chai named the song its "Song of the Decade" as the song became popular with both secular and religious listeners, becoming an anthem for the holiday of Pesach in Israel.

Larry Gordon was born and raised in Brooklyn, and has six children; including Nachi Gordon, co-host of Meaningful People Podcast.

He is a veteran journalist, writing stories on Jewish life and related issues for thirty years. He is also the acknowledged creator of modern Jewish radio. This distinction is due, for Larry, in 1977, pioneered the first weekday morning Jewish music and news program on FM radio—91.1 WFMU at New Jersey’s Upsala College.

Larry’s program, the “Hebrew and Jewish program,” and the format he created, is the direct, originating predecessor of the world famous JM in the AM radio show hosted by Nachum Segal.

Larry’s interest in journalism is inspired by his father, Nison Gordon, a”h, who traveled from Poland when he was 18-years-old to report on life in New York City as the American correspondent for a Polish newspaper. Larry’s father’s became a well know Yiddish writer, writing for “The Day,” “The Day Morning Journal,” and “The Algemeiner Journal,” during a career that spanned over 45 years.

On October 7th, Hamas terrorists stormed into the home of Hadar and Itay Berdichevsky in Kibbutz Kfar Aza, one of the Israeli communities along the Gaza border. Hadar and Itay— both 30 years old—were butchered in their own home.

Miraculously, their 10-month-old twins survived. The babies were found—rescued by the IDF—14 hours later, crying in their cots. Their parents’ bodies lie in pools of blood around them.

Maya and Dvir also survived the massacre on Kfar Aza that day. They hid in their safe room for more than 24 hours with their own baby boy—holding their hands over his mouth to keep him quiet—as they heard the terrible sounds of their neighborhood being turned into a slaughterhouse around them.

The Airley’s made aliyah from the United States in 2006. Binyamin attended yeshiva, spent time in Eilat, and worked on the family’s farm, including most Shabbats.

 

Binyomin Airley joined the front lines of the battle VS Hamas to secure the land of Israel and protect the Jewish people. He unfortunately was killed in battle.

 

At his shloshim, a moving kumzitz led by Shlomo Katz began with people singing softly in their seats and evolved into heartfelt t’filah with people standing and swaying, arm in arm, many with tears in their eyes. Jennifer interrupted the singing in the middle of a song and commented that she noticed too many sad faces in the room. She explained that this was not meant to be an evening of crying. It was meant to be an evening to honor Binyamin and open our hearts using songs for t’filah.

She begged that people open the gates of Shamayim with t’filah b’simchah, even with the pain. Jennifer teaches by example how to keep going. She is leading the way and bringing her community along with her. 

 

The Airley's Emunah and Bitachon has been on full display since Binyomin was suddenly killed in battle.

This week we sat down and spoke with Yossi Landau from ZAKA.

Founded in 1995, Zaka's volunteers arrive at the scene with one mission: to recover the bodies of those who die in an unnatural way.  

In Judaism, a person must be buried whole.

ZAKA's crews work tirelessly to recover as many body parts as they can from the scenes they are called to.  It's considered the greatest mitzvah a Jew can perform for another person. 

Yossi Landau has been with the organization for 33 years and has been all over the world. Yossi was a first responder on October 7th.  In this episode he tells us what he experienced.

They are still there! Another day, and another, and Zaka volunteers are still out in the field.  Among the smoking wrecks that were homes, the remnants of the horrid inferno, they are not giving up until the last of the murdered is brought to proper burial. 

The houses are empty, but they are still there, at risk to their own lives, doing the holy work of honoring the bodies.

Dolly Rabinowitz was born in Berehove (then Czechoslovakia, now Ukraine) to a rabbinical family. When she was 19, Dolly and her family were taken alongside the other Jews of the neighboring villages to the death camp of Auschwitz. From there she was forced to endure the barbaric cruelty of Auschwitz and the Death March to the Ravensbruck concentration camps. After experiencing unspeakable atrocities simply because of her faith, Dolly emigrated to America, got married, and now lives in Boro Park with her family.

Rachelle Fraenkel’s son Naftali was one of three teenage boys kidnapped and murdered by Palestinian terrorists in Israel on their way home for Shabbos in 2014. She was thrust into a public role, exhibiting tremendous courage, fortitude, and kindness. 

 

Recognized as one of Israel’s most inspiring women, Rachelle advocates for Jewish unity before audiences worldwide. She is a legendary pioneer for intensive text education for frum women. She is a longtime educator at Nishmat and the director of the Advanced Halacha Program at Matan. Rachel is also co-founder of The Jerusalem Unity Prize and Unity Day project. She lives with her family in Nof Ayalon.

Joel Kaplan and Shaya Levin are two extraordinary individuals living in New York. Their children were engaged to be married to one another when horrific tragedy struck.

 

Five years ago, Yisroel Levin and his Kallah, Elisheva Kaplan, two incredibly inspiring and growing people, were killed in a horrible car accident on Chol Hamoed Pesach. The tragedy shook the Jewish people. At their funeral, Shaya, Yisroel’s father, asked that in exchange for their pure souls, we together help suggest and facilitate 10,000 shidduchim in honor of Yisroel and Elisheva, and the initiative has since led to countless shidduchim.

Rabbi Yaakov Sadigh shared his unique journey from growing up in Iran in a century old Jewish family, which included visits to the tomb of Mordechai and Esther in Hamedan, Iran. He spent his early years in Iran and was forced to flee his homeland at the age of 9 following the overthrow of the Shah. Arriving in the United States, he navigated the challenges of the public school system before discovering his true calling within the hallowed halls of Yeshivas.

He has been working in the field of Education for the past 29 years in numerous capacities including teaching and administration. Rabbi Sadigh holds a Master's Degree in School Building Leadership from St. John’s University, a Master's Degree in Education and Special Education from Touro University, and Rabbinic Ordination from Nechamas Yerushalayim.

Rabbi Yaakov Sadigh currently serves as Head of School at Katz Hillel Day School in Boca Raton, Florida.
