Part Two-Conversations with Midwife Sam Arbidans: Supporting Kate & Nath - A moment in her midwifery career she'll never forget

56 min • 21 oktober 2022

In Today’s episode I speak with the incredible Midwife Sam Arbidans for part two of Kate & Nathan’s birthing story.

Sam was Kate’s primary midwife during her pregnancy with Angus and when hearing about Nath’s accident she knew she needed to do everything she possibly could to ensure that the remainder of Kate’s pregnancy & birth was everything that their family deserved.

Nath sustained a severe spinal cord injury (SCI) on his return to amateur rugby league,  Kate was 7 months pregnant at the time.

Nath was immediately paralysed, unable to breathe for himself and was deprived of oxygen for 16 minutes with an off duty Nurse keeping him alive. Both Kate and Nath share their experience of this and their journey since in last weeks episode.

Today Sam talks to us about how Nath's ICU and the maternity ward worked together to ensure that Nath could be there on the day of his son's birth taking into consideration things like the equipment required, sufficient space, adequate staffing plus so much more.

Sam shares some of the most memorable moments that she shared with Nath and Kate as well as highlights the beautiful people they are.

Please welcome Sam!
