When you spend all day in a studio shooting a YouTube series about drinking, things can run off the rails in a hurry, and carefully managing that chaos is vital if you’re going to make a show like How to Drink, and that’s what Greg & Meredith have done for years. Here at Midnight Local we give into that chaos and let the rails be damned. These are the conversations that make you pause the movie because it just can’t wait. Things like how the Hays Code destroyed cinema from 1934 – 1968, why David Lindelof should never be able to hold a pen again, and the fact that Joss Whedon doesn’t live up to the morality of his own characters and also has tiny teeth. Midnight Local is a place to get weird about movies and shows and the rest and go beyond the who, what and where.

We watched the Netflix doc Muscles and Mayhem: An Unauthorized Story of American Gladiators and it brought us back to the golden age of weird fever dream TV. We are talking about Sifl and Olly, Cutlery Corner, UHF and all the other content that was filling time slots in the early days of late night television and cable. Let us know if you agree that the world needs more weird shit on TV again?

After watching the 1989 Batman we thought there was a lot more to talk about, especially when it comes to different versions of the Joker. This week we decided to take a look at The Dark Knight and see how Christopher Nolan's Batman compares to Burton's and how Heath Ledger's Joker compares to Jack Nicholson's. Both are great but is one better than the other?

Super Mario Bros. took us back to our childhood which is probably what made it the most successful movie of the year so far! The voice acting leaves a lot to be desired but the movie hits all the right nostalgic notes. What other NES games will become movie franchises in the near future?

It is incredible that Who Framed Roger Rabbit ever got made, but thank goodness it did! The talent that pours out of every frame of this film is still impressive 30 years later!

Disney has always reused old IP to make more money, so the “live action” remakes are nothing new, but do they hold up to the originals? In this episode we compare the animated and live action Little Mermaids.

The 2023 best picture winner sparked a lively debate between Meredith and Greg. Is the movie too long and Oscar bait-y, or is it a beautifully relatable emotional mess? One thing is for sure, it left us with lots to talk about!

Movies are wonderful but there is a lot of fantastic Television out there as well. This episode started out about Columbo and Poker Face (which is heavily inspired by Columbo) but turned into a love letter to Natasha Lyonne and Peter Faulk.

This unexpected Oscar winner really holds up! We debate if there is a victim or a villain or if the main characters of this film all deserved what they got. What is for sure is that the all star cast and crew created a perfect storm for a silly movie that gives your more than you bargain for.

Did Paul Verhoeven have a time machine or is he a wizard? We watched Total Recall, another of his sci fi action films that has remained shockingly relevant well over 30 year past it's release. This film has some of the most memorable special effects of the time and holds up in ways that seem impossible.

Are we in control of our own free will or are we just along for the ride? This is a core question of the cyberpunk genre that is defined by movies like RoboCop. Don't judge this movie by its cover, RoboCop might present like another dumb action flick but there is a lot to unpack in this Paul Verhoeven masterpiece.

Does The Menu and Triangle of Sadness, two "eat the rich" movies that came out last year, stand out in the long history of eat-the-rich movies? With other recent movies like Parasite and Knives Out or older movies like Society it seems debatable. Which is why we have Midnight Local.

These are the conversations that make you pause the movie because it just can't wait. Things like how the Hays Code destroyed cinema from 1934 - 1968, why David Lindelof should never be able to hold a pen again, and the fact that Joss Whedon doesn't live up to the morality of his own characters and also has tiny teeth. Midnight Local is a place to get weird about movies and shows and the rest and go beyond the who, what and where.
