The most important quality I want for my kids during these difficult times is probably what you want: resilience. Our kids need the capacity to overcome hard times because we cannot (and would not want to) protect them from every single one of life’s difficulties. In this episode, I talk to author and psychologist Chris Willard about raising resilience.

Takeaways:

  1. The younger your child is, the more contagious your emotions are.
  2. The best practice for a kid in a meltdown is your mindfulness practice as a parent.
  3. Resilient kids have both a stable, loving adult and responsibility.

Dr. Christopher Willard (PsyD) has been practicing meditation for 20 years and has led hundreds of workshops around the world, with invitations to more than two dozen countries. He is the author of Child’s Mind (2010) Growing Up Mindful (2016) Raising Resilience (2017) and ten other books for parents, professionals, and children. He teaches at Harvard Medical School. On the personal side, he enjoys traveling, hiking, cooking, reading and writing, and being a father.
