No single person has ever had the impact on humanity as that of Jesus Christ. Without technology, political power or military assets, Jesus altered the direction of history, by living a perfect life, becoming the perfect sacrifice, and rising again. Since He was perfect, why did He have to be baptized and what difference does it make for us today? Let’s contemplate the person and work of Jesus to get a fresh appreciation for His uniqueness.

Believers can tend to get caught up with everyone else when economic and social calamities strike. How should we as believers act and live when the going gets tough? Let’s take some guidance from the prophet Jeremiah who saw times like ours coming. To endure times of hardship, we need to have a support system in place cultivated in the soil of our inner devotional life with God. We’ll explore five choices that cultivate intimacy with God where He can revive our souls even in the middle of a dry and dusty land.

Like Christians in ancient Rome, believers around the world today experience persecution meant to destroy their faith. We Christians in the Western church should ask ourselves honestly, “What would it take for us to deny our faith?” Christians in the end times of Revelation will neither submit to the Antichrist nor deny Christ—and many will be martyred because of it. How can we overcome like that when we’re under pressure for our faith?  

One day, everything that gives you any false sense of security will vanish. On the day of final judgment, your relationship with God will be all that matters. The ultimate day of calamity will come when you’re standing before God and watching all you’ve achieved – your status, your wealth – go up in smoke. In this message from James 5, you’ll hear five graphic warnings about the false security of wealth and the coming judgment of God. But if you’ve trusted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, you have no reason to fear that day. You need only to be true to Him. 

Sometimes you can go directly from great blessing to times of great trial. That’s what happened to Jesus when the Spirit led Him into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. When He was most vulnerable, Jesus stood firm against Satan by using the Word of God. The devil can use people, events, health, wealth, guilt, injustice, and even the Word of God to bring out the worst in you. In this message, you’ll be prepared for temptation. When the devil comes to remind you of your past, you can use the Word of God and the work of Jesus to remind him of his future. 

Imagine you’ve gone through incredible personal loss in the midst of a nation-wide famine. That’s what happened to two widows in Scripture: Naomi and Ruth. Even if you can only see the immediate crisis, God is working during such times. In this message, you’ll see God moving forward with His plan of redemption in the four chapters of the book of Ruth. You’ll gather the lasting value of family, community, and the opportunity to witness to a watching world. Even in your darkest days, God is still there, and He’s still in control. 

Where do you turn when hardship hits? When God wants to deepen your spiritual maturity, He sometimes takes away all the comforts to which you’re accustomed. It’s possible for God to lead His people into the wilderness. That’s what happened to Abraham. In this message, you’ll journey with him through an unexpected famine to face his doubts and failures.
