During the 1960s, hitchhiking was a common occurrence in Britain as well as across the United States and Canada. It was seen as an easy and cheap way to get from place to place and maybe meet some new friends along the way. While nowadays, a child hitchhiking to and from school would warrant a call to child protection services, back in the 1960s, some children did.
