Welcome to the When the Apple Ripens Podcast from Museums & Galleries Edinburgh. Each episode focuses on a specific artwork included in the major exhibition at the City Art Centre celebrating Scotland’s most significant figurative artist, Peter Howson.

The exhibition "When the Apple Ripens: Peter Howson At 65 ; A Retrospective" will be open from the 27th of May until the 1st of October 2023 and includes over 100 artworks that span Howson’s career.

You will hear from the curator of the exhibition David Patterson and Mia Vaslet, a postgraduate student studying Modern and Contemporary Art at the University of Edinburgh who has been working with David on the exhibition through the University’s History of Art Work placement.

In this episode David and Mia discuss Peter Howson’s 1987 The Heroic Dosser, exploring Howson’s art within the 1980s and his depiction of Glaswegian nightlife within his work.
