Successful indie artist and podcaster Andy Frasco speaks with MMP host Darrell Craig Harris from his hotel room in Tennessee about his current tour, new album release, his World Saving Podcast show, and so much more!
Andy Frasco & The U.N. have long been the high-flying DIY renegades of the touring scene known and loved for their kaleidoscopic musical fusion, one-of-a-kind onstage audacity, and contagious party-animal energy. The band’s recent full-length LP ‘L’Optimist’ celebrates their longevity, while giving way to a wiser, but no less enthusiastic, artist and band leader who isn’t afraid to lean into the introspective and explore more difficult terrain, lyrically and emotionally. “We’re not going to be able to change the world, but we can at least help the process along by being optimistic that the future will turn itself around. And if everyone changes their mind state about the future, then maybe we can change the world!

Music Matters host Darrell Craig Harris speaks with Monique Powell long-time lead vocalist for the popular ska/rock band “Save Ferris” from her home in Garden Grove, California! #saveferris #skaband #podcast
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN Save Ferris is a ska-punk band formed in Orange County, California circa 1995. Their name is a reference to the 1986 film Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Lead by the inimitable front-woman Monique Powell, the band enjoyed mainstream success in the late 1990s with radio hits, constant touring and appearances on a variety of television shows and movies. The band released their debut EP "Introducing Save Ferris" on Powell's own Starpool Records, in 1996. They ended up selling close to 20,000 copies of their EP out of the trunks of their cars, thanks to loyal fans and huge support from Orange County independent record shops. That same year, Powell provided vocals on the Reel Big Fish song "She Has A Girlfriend Now" on their album "Turn the Radio Off" (Mojo). https://www.SaveFerris.com Social Media / saveferrisofficialband

Andrew Browning and the 9 Pound Hammers dive into the raw, gritty landscapes of California with their upcoming album, Love is a Beautiful Thing, set for release on November 22nd. With a sound steeped in the raw energy of ’70s rock and Americana, and storytelling that echoes the messiness of real life, this album brings listeners on a journey through the highs and lows of love, framed by Browning’s distinctly Californian lens. The lead single, “Econoline,” kicks off this journey with electrifying energy, capturing the untamed spirit of life on the road. It’s a raucous anthem that blends hard-driving guitar riffs with evocative lyrics, telling tales of roaming, survival, and finding moments of warmth and love in the most unexpected places.
Love is a Beautiful Thing the groups latest release stands as a testament to Andrew Browning’s evolution as an artist, bringing together his love for narrative songwriting with his Californian rock influences. Since their inception, Andrew Browning and the 9 Pound Hammers have been known for creating a sound that is uniquely theirs—gritty, narrative-driven, and unapologetically raw.

Singer songwriter Eric Hirshberg's path is anything but typical. He's a former CEO of Activision and Deutsch LA, where he led record-breaking launches for major franchises like Call of Duty and was named one of the 50 Most Creative People in Business by AdAge. Yet throughout his remarkable career, Eric has always remained deeply connected to music. His songs have been featured in major outlets like People Magazine, American Songwriter, and Relix, and his collaboration with Aloe Blacc on "I Love Not Drinking" earned a Grammy nomination this year.
'Second Hand Smoke' his new album (released Sept 13 2024) is a deeply personal and refreshingly unique album that explores themes rarely addressed in mainstream music, like sobriety, aging, meditation, and the complexities of modern relationships. It's filled with a rich blend of introspective lyrics, an Americana-tinged sound, and a mature perspective-songs that dig deep into universal truths while resonating with life experiences. The album's success is a testament to Eric's unique voice and perspective, making it a project well worth checking out!

Rob McNelley, the acclaimed Nashville guitarist known for his collaborations with icons like Bob Seger, Dolly Parton, and Luke Combs, has just released his latest single, “The Other Side.” This slow-burning track, built on a growling bass line and featuring McNelley’s signature guitar prowess, is the newest addition to his series of Americana-flavored singles that have been rolling out throughout the year. “The Other Side” follows the release of McNelley’s two previous singles, “Circus Is Leaving Town” and “Right Back To You,” each showcasing the versatility and depth of his songwriting and musicianship.
“The Other Side is a song about learning how to see another point of view and expanding your mind to other possibilities,” McNelley shares. “It’s about leaving the possibility open that you may be wrong about things you’ve always thought, and that that is ok. It’s about evolving around a point of view and getting your ego out of the way so that you can truly see the other side of any subject matter. Plus, there’s some more focus on the guitar playing side of what I do with this one.”

Bermuda Schwartz Reflects on Four Decades of Drumming with 'Weird Al' Yankovic and the Power of Online Presence"
Bermuda Schwartz, the long-time drummer for "Weird Al" Yankovic, shares his fascinating journey with me from his early days in Chicago to his successful career in Los Angeles. In this engaging podcast episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Mama B, also known as JacQ Becker, a talented children's music creator, writer, and producer. Mama B recently released her first solo album, "Imagineology," a delightful blend of pop, jazz, and hip hop designed to appeal to both children and parents.
Mama B's Background in Music and Transition to Children's Music
Mama B's love for music began at a young age, influenced by legends like Frank Sinatra and Aretha Franklin. She pursued her passion by working in various roles within the music industry, including marketing, film and TV licensing, and publishing. Her transition to children's music was a natural progression, inspired by her experiences as a parent. She aimed to create music that both children and parents could enjoy, especially since parents often play these songs on repeat.
The Making of "Imagineology"
"Imagineology" is the result of Mama B's collaboration with talented producers and musicians who were new to the children's music space but excited about the project. The album's first single, "Unicorn," (just released) was an experiment in blending child-friendly themes with production styles typically intended for adult audiences.
JacQ's Advice for Aspiring Artists
JacQ emphasizes the importance of authenticity and songwriting skills for aspiring artists. She encourages creators to focus on their strengths and not to get overwhelmed by the need to be perfect or to excel in areas outside their core talent. She also advises artists to release their work into the world and not to be overly self-critical. In her experience, many great songs never get released because artists are too self-critical.
Conclusion
This podcast offers a fascinating glimpse into Mama B's journey in the music industry and her passion for creating children's music. Her advice for aspiring artists is both practical and inspiring, making this a must-listen for anyone interested in music and creativity.

As a seasoned music bass guitar player with almost 40 years of experience and the host of the Music Matters Podcast, I'm thrilled to introduce you to Rockie Lynne, a talented musician who has overcome adversity to find success in the music industry. In this podcast episode, we'll delve into Lynne's inspiring journey, his new Amazon documentary and latest album, as well as his charitable work supporting the families of fallen service members.
Early Life and Music Career
Lynne's passion for music began at a young age. After being found in a garbage dumpster and growing up in an orphanage, he was inspired to become a musician when a man played guitar for him at the age of four. Lynne started playing in bands in high school, and later joined the army to attend the Musicians Institute in California.
Despite feeling overwhelmed by the talent in the barracks, Lynne persevered and eventually moved to Minnesota, where he started over and sold 150,000 CDs from his car trunk before getting a record deal. He played 321 nights in a big eight by 20 trailer, becoming a draw before meeting with industry executives.
Songwriting, Love, and Forgiveness
Lynne's approach to songwriting is unique, comparing it to plumbing or throwing darts. His new album features his classic, full-rich voice and great songs. One of the standout tracks is "Heavy Load," which was inspired by a mass shooting in Charleston, South Carolina. The song grapples with the concept of love in the face of unimaginable evil.
Finding His Biological Father and the Importance of Male Role Models
Lynne discovered his biological father through a DNA test and was able to meet him before his death. This experience had a profound impact on Lynne's sense of belonging and purpose. He also emphasizes the importance of male role models in childhood, citing personal experiences and the impact it had on his life.
Charity Work for Troops
Lynne founded Tribute to the Troops, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps families of fallen service members. The organization has raised over $1 million and sent 123 children to college whose parents died in service. Lynne's commitment to supporting troops and their families is unwavering, and he encourages others to get involved and donate to this important cause.
New Amazon Documentary and Album
Lynne's new Amazon documentary and album offer a glimpse into his life and music career. The documentary, which is available on Amazon Prime and PBS stations nationwide, showcases Lynne's journey as a singer-songwriter and the importance of showcasing artists' work. His latest album features his signature voice and songwriting style, with themes of love, forgiveness, and moving on from tragedy.
Conclusion
Rockie Lynne's story is one of resilience, perseverance, and giving back. Despite facing numerous challenges throughout his life, he has remained committed to his passion for music and his desire to help others. His new Amazon documentary and album offer a chance to learn more about this inspiring artist and his incredible journey.

The Rumble: A New Orleans Experience Like No Other
In the latest episode of "Music Matters Podcast," I had the privilege of chatting with two key members of the seven member musical family called "The Rumble", those two band members being, Chief Joseph Boudreaux Jr and Aurélien Barnes. The band already has a Grammy-nominated debut album: "Live At The Maple Leaf" (hear it on DistroKid etc). Oh yeah don't forget to chaeckout the bands new Double (Limited Edition) Vinyl version as well...
The bands hometown is New Orleans, and they're shaking up the music scene with their electrifying blend of funk, brass, and Mardi Gras Indian culture.
The Rumble is more than just a band; they're a cultural force, carrying on the legacy of Black Masking Indians while infusing their sound with modern innovation. Their live performances are a symphony of pulsating rhythms, soulful vocals, and mesmerizing call-and-response chants, inviting audiences to participate in a living tradition that's both deeply rooted and constantly evolving.
During our chat, The Rumble's members shared their passion for preserving and sharing the rich history of Black Masking Indian culture. They spoke about the importance of passing down these traditions to future generations and how their music is a way to keep the spirit of Mardi Gras alive year-round.
I was particularly struck by the band's humility and commitment to their community. They recognize that their music is not just about entertainment; it's about connecting with people and sharing a message of unity, love, and resilience.
If you're looking to experience the heart and soul of New Orleans, look no further than The Rumble. Their music is infectious, their energy is unmatched, and their connection to the city's heritage is palpable. You're sure to have an unforgettable time grooving to the beat of The Rumble.

My special guest to kick-off off our new season 07 is Shevy Smith. Amongst her many talents, she is the founder of the new and already popular Ultimate Playlist App. Ultimate Playlist gives you the opportunity to win a minimum of $2k and a chance to win a $20k jackpot each day, simply for listening to, rating, and/or adding songs to your Apple Music playlist. I will add links so you can grab this outstanding app for yourself. The prizes are powered by the Arizona State Lottery, which, like many state lotteries, offers free, non-lottery games to help drive user engagement.
Listen in as Shevy gives us insight into her background...her personal journey and her growing tally of achievements she's bagged to date. Here is a brief summary of her bio to help you get into the vibe...
After signing a publishing deal in Nashville as a teenager and working as a writer and college touring artist, Smith migrated to the west coast and began a series of ventures designed to support other emerging artists. She created Forte Poesy, a youth-focused music education program empowering kids through songwriting and musicianship, whose curriculum was implemented in public and private schools in NYC, LA , and London. During this time, she also wrote, produced, and engineered numerous national tv/film campaigns for ABC, NBC, Soapnet, and ESPN, and in 2019, she teamed up with attorney and streaming technology expert Khalid Jones to form Elite Shout, a creative firm with the goal of leveraging emerging tech to provide innovative opportunities for developing and established recording artists.
Now, Shevy has introduced the Ultimate Playlist, a new mobile app that helps musicians grow their reach, by offering cash prizes to listeners who listen to and rate their songs. With 80,000 new songs uploaded to Spotify every day and the recording industry struggling to find new promotional avenues, Ultimate Playlist guarantees that artists will get their songs in front of active listeners, while also providing valuable data about how their music is being consumed

My good friend in London, UK - Fiona Ross, and I had a chance to catch up as we end the summer 2022 break. We chat about Women In Jazz Media ~ founded by Fiona, now with a 22 member female team, and publishing their fourth Women In Jazz Media high-quality digital magazine, with subscribers across the globe.
Fiona Ross is a real joy to know, very caring and I am totally amazed at her multi-talented skills. She tends to rave on about new and upcoming musicians - constantly encouraging and supporting the younger generations.
Fiona is constantly on the go. It's like she has some secret access to NASA rocket fuel. In fact, I don't think she's actually ever stopped since she started in showbusiness at the age of 2-years old.
Listen in and enjoy finding out about this really authentic, fascinating advocate of so....many people. Have a look at the Women In Jazz Media website and its social media links...Plus, her website - especially her BIO and see some of the well-known pop stars she's had a hand in helping on the road to global fame.
Please check out https://womeninjazzmedia.com/ and it's many projects. Also, Fiona's website @ FionaRoss.Co.UK - also her Social-Media channels.

My special guest on this episode is Troy Bullock - Bringing back True Country Music. Tradition has a new name. What once perhaps seemed outdated, now has a new voice. Troy is challenging the status quo, bringing a host of Traditional Country Music influences with him.
Listen to Troy's recent new debut release, 'PAYDIRT'
Troy and I really covered some ground in this episode from Gold mining to some of the moset important elements of life and family, being very musch what inspires Troy to express in his music. Being an independeant artist can be a challenging road to travel, not so with Troy. One of the things that i was left after spending quality time with this wholesome guy - was how kind hearted and determined he is to achieve the goals he's set for himself and the music that burns within him is shared with you.

My special guest this time is Dean Bushala. He is a commercial and television Producer, Director and Cinematographer. He has directed series for National Geographic, History and Discovery Channel. He started his career designing and branding television networks in Europe. Listen in as Dean and I cover a lot of ground in our 1-hour fun and insightful chat.
Dean explains how and why he got attracted from an early age to film. He shares some funny and interesting anecdotal stories including some of the risks in achieving TV shows that can be popular in both the US domestic market and also language dubbed, and remain successful in other countries. Dean talks about diversity and quality of the people he gets to work with and shares some advice for younger people wishing to get deeper into the film industry. Honestly, 1-hour was not long enough but it was sure real quality time spent...
Dean has his own company called Red Branch Productions which is well worth exploring. One of Deans passions is to give back and help educate children through his newly co-created children's live-action animated film documentary series - here's just one example: Ebo's Adventures - Song: What's in the Sea'.
I'm rounding off these show notes with direct text from Deans website because I want to highlight this exceptionally talented, and I sense, humble individual...and below is just the first paragraph!
Dean is an Emmy-winning Producer and Director of Photography. His documentary films and commercial work have taken him to some of the world's most remote locations, from several hundred miles out onto the frozen Arctic Sea, to floating through the Amazon jungle on a man-made raft, to 60 feet under water SCUBA diving with sharks off the coastal reef of Belize.

My special guest on this episode is a music clearance and licensing expert - Kevin Magowan. Raised in Los Vegas, Nevada, he was fortunate enough to meet Elvis! A born Rocker, as a young man Kevin made his way to Los Angeles, and started his career in the music business with the music publishing legend Al Gallico. Then he went on to Walt Disney Studios and worked for Evan M. Greenspan/EMG. INC in the area of music clearance and licensing. Kevin share valuable insights into the do's and don't of this complex area of the music industry, so take heed, of the valuable nuggets' of info he shares with me. Kevin's life-long love of music has never waned, he continues to write and takes the opportunity to share his passion by performing ever chance he gets.
Kevin's life-long passion for all things Buddy Holly, inspired him to petition and secure the Buddy Holly Hollywood Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He personal arranged to have the Star on Vine street next to the members of The Beatles, who have always acknowledged they were so inspired by Buddy and his music. The ceremony took place on what's was to have been Buddy's 75th birthday - September 7th, 2011. Through Kevin's efforts and devotion to this cause that date is now officially known as the Buddy Holly Day in Hollywood. If that wasn't enough - Kevin also was instrumental in getting the famous - Buddy Holly - "The Apartment Tapes" officially released. Through all this he has and remains a personal friend of Maria Elena Holly - Buddy's widow.
You can connect with Kevin via his Facebook Page.

What a pleasure to chat with this legend of music. Let me ask you a question: What do Miles Davis, Luther Vandross, Sting, Roberta Flack, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, George Benson, Michael Jackson, David Sanborn, Vanessa Williams, and hundreds of other legendary artists and musicians have in common?
Yes...they've all worked with Grammy Award-winning producer, keyboardist, composer, arranger, and synthesist Jason Miles. For 46 years, Miles has contributed his vast array of talents and deep musicality to the success of these and countless other superstars and independent artists. This man's talent, knowledge, and stories could fill a book
Actually, Jason Miles will be doing just that. The book is almost complete and is titled - The Extraordinary Journey of Jason Miles...A Musical Biography. Jason gives me little snippets of insider backstage/room things that are covered in this new book.
One, never to stand still, Jason shares exciting insights into the motivation(s) for his latest projects completed just before covid and while in lockdown, and he's fired up and ready to take his latest album - Kind of New- Black Magic out onto an International tour.
This is a man with real genuine passion and energy for all things music, life, and love. Highly recommend you go over to his website, bookmark it and follow him on his social media channels.
Let's finish off with a quote about Jason Miles from another icon of the music industry;
“Jason Miles has raised the level of excellence for the musicians who have had the good fortune of working with him, myself included. He has enriched the lives of the millions of people who have listened to the music he plays, the recordings he produces, and the countless musicians he mentors and inspires. The work he did with my friends, Miles Davis and Marcus Miller have helped to define the modern face of jazz music."

UK Jazz artist/producer/journalist Fiona Ross chats about her new album, women in jazz, and the London Jazz Fest! All on Episode 19, Season 3.
Fiona Ross is one of those people that I keep coming back to. Fiona is very inspirational and very much a role model of what is truly the meaning of success as a creative artist. I spoke with her from her London home the night after her 5th new album launch gig. I could see from all the build-up to the event, and the buzz all over social media that this new (5th) album titled: "Red Flags and High Heels" was a resounding success even after just 24 hours!
Fiona explained her motivation for this 5th album concept, and how it was clearly a progressive linear timeline as is weaved throughout all her albums to date. We also talked about her founding "Women In Jazz Media" It's simply birth to continued exponential growth, now with 16 team members and a UK parliamentary award for Jazz Media Excellence, and the promoting of equal rights for women in the UK jazz industry.
I highly recommend you check out the consummate musicianship of Fiona and the other musicians on this wonderful album. The production is super professional quality for an album that is totally self-funded.
Look out for more coming with Fiona and me as I head over to the London Jazz Festival - reporting live for Music Matters Podcast and playing my bass guitar as a guest at one of Fiona's London Jazz Festival gigs.

It was a real pleasure to re-connect with Drummers - David Segal and Joe Hardy after first meeting at the NAMM show, and recently for Pizza in Las Vegas. Both their individual and collective strength, attitude, and work at Can Do Musos are very inspiring for me. I hope you also receive something from listening to this 30 min podcast.
For context - below is the Can-Do Musos Motto, and the meaning of Musos.
OUR DISABILITY DOES NOT DEFINE US... OUR PASSION FOR MUSIC DOES!!!"Muso" or "musos" are terms used widely in parts of the world to describe a musician or group of musicians with passion and dedication to their music.

UK R&B/Soul singer Ashaine White joins me from her home in London to talk about her new release, being a busy vocalist in the UK, working as a music journalist, and much more...
Ashaine brings the musicality back into singing with her nods to jazz harmony and a spell-binding but moody approach to Neo-soul. Inspired by the likes of Jeff Buckley, Lianne La Havas, and D'Angelo, Ashaine describes herself as a Grunge-Soul artist, taking the fundamental approaches to jazz singing and adding a modern spin.

On this episode of Switcher Chats is my good friend Christa Renwall - what a powerhouse lady, multi-talented and passionate in helping other artists realize their full potential. Her natural ability to mentor and seek out tangible rock-solid action plans, and witnessing the devastating impact Covid 19 emergency has brought on the Finnish arts sector, has led Christa to continue her advocacy by choosing to be politically active. Striving to make the Finnish arts environment a positive place to grow both as an artist as well as be beneficial for all parties.
Listen in as Christa shares really helpful tips for artists to move forward in their music careers. I do give Christa a little surprise when I play a track from way back and when we first got to know each other. I was looking forward to chatting with Rebecca, especially about her new debut album 'Love Life Choices' - Although having listened to her singing and knowing some of her musical family histories. It becomes all apparent why she sounds so polished for her age.
Having active encouragement from an uncle - Steve Angel the drummer who played with Jimi Hendrix. Plus, Rebecca's mom and dad, Linda and Dennis Angel, also musical in their own right actively encouraged her to pursue he dreams of being a professional singer. You then connect this all with a musical legend producer and mentor - Jason Miles and it all makes sense.
Prior to this debut album, Rebecca has a growing list of major music accolades/awards to her credit. Winning New Artist Breakout Single in 2020 with the 'For What It's Worth'
Love Life Choices features a roll call of some of today’s most versatile, intuitive players, who as an ensemble brings out Rebecca’s greatest strengths. Steeped in jazz, her skills as an improviser are especially potent. Just go over to her website and listen for yourself.

My good friend in London, UK - Fiona Ross, and I had a chance to catch up. Mostly, I wanted to share with all of you how totally amazing this multi-talented individual is, and for you to hear it directly from Fiona with some prompting from me. She tends to rave on about new and upcoming musicians - constantly encouraging and supporting the younger generations.
Fiona is constantly on the go. It's like she has some secret access to NASA rocket fuel. In fact, I don't think she's actually ever stopped since she started at 2-years old.
Listen in and enjoy finding out about this really authentic, fascinating advocate of so....many people. Have a look at her website - especially her BIO and see some of the well-known pop stars she's had a hand in helping on the road to global fame.

When Nigel J. and I started this podcast project, we set out to achieve 100K downloads. We thought it might take 12 months?
We've managed this 100K milestone in 6+ months with just 35 podcast shows and an Apple Listener rating of 4.6 of 5 Stars on nearly 800 comments. And hit a Global audience of 57 countries in March 2021.
People have asked us to share how we did it? So...Listen in and hear how we achieved this success that is almost unheard of in the music interview podcast arena with only 35 podcast shows in the can!
We both have other projects that we work on and Nigel J. lives in the beautiful SW French countryside. His studio has all the toys and he co-produces this podcast. He's also is a 25+ year veteran voiceover talent, a globally successful and now retired editor-in-chief of a very well-known Jazz magazine, oh and did I mention he owned a Jazz Radio station that went viral and was heard in 77 countries. Like many of us creative souls - he's always doing something, and his passion is Music Tribes Unite which he says is in constant development - with funky branded swag, multiple music-genre playlists, and media production. Like me, he's always on the go, and a person I really resonate with.
My home base is in Las Vegas, Nevada - there's a 9-hours difference between us! A lot of our communication is done via email and chat messages. We work well together and we both enjoy the process of bringing you audio and video music-related interviews from musicians and music industry professionals who share really vital and up-to-date thoughts, feelings, and sometimes very personal experiences.
I've been a professional Musician all my adult life and have played with some extremely well-known music 'A-Listers - Check out my Facebook profile and my Music Matters website and have a look around - If you're interested in guesting or feel someone you know is worth checking out please get in contact with me. I had the pleasure of touring with Gary Puckett for a number of years and it was great to re-connect with him again - Just like old times. As you'll hear we covered a lot of ground in the hour that we spent chatting. I hope you enjoy this podcast as much as I did in making it. Below is a summary of the fantastic achievements that Gary has attained thus far in his impressive musical career.
GARY PUCKETT and the UNION GAP was one of the most successful musical groups of the sixties.
Gary's unmistakable signature voice garnered six consecutive gold records and top ten Billboard hits with the following titles:
"YOUNG GIRL" • "WOMAN WOMAN" • "LADY WILLPOWER" • "OVER YOU" • "THIS GIRL IS A WOMAN NOW"
"KEEP THE CUSTOMER SATISFIED" • "DON'T GIVE IN TO HIM" • "HOME"
GARY PUCKETT has performed on more than thirty network television shows and prime time specials during his career, even adding a command performance for the President and Prince Charles at the White House. The Union Gap disbanded in the seventies. In 1974, "Young Girl" was reissued in England where it received a silver record award for attaining a top-five position on the pop charts, several years after its initial release.
Gary continues to tour nationally & internationally, has a new album out now, "GARY PUCKETT - LIVE"

In this episode, I chat with one of my long-time friends Niki Westerback. Niki was discovered and encouraged to develop her singing skills by well-known vocal coach and record producer -Tracy Lipp of Helsinki Records. Since their first studio meeting, Niki has never looked back. Both her solo career and as the lead singer of the all-female heavy rock group - Barbe-Q-Barbies.
Over the CV19 lockdown, Niki's was invited to provide multi-back vocals for the Euro-winning hard rock group - Lordi - Niki's successful solo singer/songwriter career is aptly titled Niki's Project, and her latest single 'Like a Clown' has just been released with poignant lyrics about being bullied. My chat with Waylon Revis, vocalist for 'A Killer Confession' and former 'Mushroomhead' vocalist was great fun while at the same time insightful. This is one happily married dude living in Florida. When listening to this chat I am sure like me you'll feel the clear sense that having faced personal adversity nothing now is gonna stop him from his razor-sharp focus to move forward in life.
We cover lots of topics from his past, time with 'Mushroomhead'. How he has been dealing with life not touring due to CV19 and how he's preparing to go back out on tour and how he continues to develop his latest project 'A Killer Confession' and its music. This was real quality time spent, and I hope we can do it again soon.

It's great to chat with Bucky Heard. He joined with 'The Righteous Brothers' in 2016 at the invitation of Bill Medley, who said he'd found not only an amazing voice, he also found the right chemistry pairing up with Bucky. Above and beyond singing with the Righteous Brothers, Bucky offers an online vocal singing coaching method he's developed called Vocal PREP Metrix. Working on a strong foundational balance between Pitch, Range, Endurance, and Power.
Bucky Heard is also an actor/director/producer.- Bucky has also teamed up with The Righteous Brother guitarist John Wedemeyer. and they're well-known on the local Las Vegas music scene. What a pleasure to chat with and hear sing the unmistakable soulful voice of Finnish musician, composer, arranger and vocal coach Charlotta Kerbs. (also affectionately known as) Charlotta Curves.
I've been following Charlotta on YouTube and social media for sometime, and she's always amazed me with the versatility of her voice, with its deep expression and amazing tone. As I mentioned it's one of those voices that is immediately recognizable. Please listen in and hear for yourself - I actually had tears flowing with her first of two songs she sings for us. The second is a haunting folk song and reminds me of many of the reasons I admire and love the time I've spent over in the lands of the Nordics.
I recommend you check out all things Charlotta Kerbs (also known as) Charlotta Curves on her social media channels.

My special guest on this episode is Billy Amendola, the editor at large of the long-time popular magazine 'Modern Drummer'. Billy graciously shares personal facts for the first time. His growing friendship with Ringo Star since meeting at Saturday Night Live (SNL). His early music career, the forming in 1974 of the New York City based band 'Mantus'. Achieving three top ten dance singles with a worldwide success in the late 70s, and that's just for starters!
We chat about Billy's start at Modern Drummer magazine and the founder, his mentor, dear friend and drummer - Ron Spagnardi. Billy shares what he feels are the important elements needed to be a good writer and what is expected if you wish to submit an article to Modern Drummer.
He goes on to talk about what he's observing about the music industry in its current state with the Covid19 pandemic. How vitally important it is for the music industry to collaborate and notice the prime opportunity we have to make it better and more equitable.
Billy has reinvented himself over and over throughout his sustained and successful career. As a live performer, studio musician, producer/songwriter, and as mentioned his various roles including editor at large for Modern Drummer.
There is not doubt that Billy deeply loves the music industry for its art, and is not in anyway starry-eyed over fame. Billy has supported the launch of many performers as well as advocating for the rights of both established and new artist. He exemplifies the ability and need to reinvent oneself to remain current and he does this with finesse.
He champions comprehensive music licensing reform, most notably The Music Modernization Act, which impacts hundreds of thousands of music creators. Billy Amendola has both consulted and been the co-host for David Fishof’s Rock N' Roll Fantasy Camp, where attendees play, write and record music in professional rehearsal and recording studios alongside music industry legends.
Our time chatting was very enjoyable, insightful and just evaporated far to quickly. As they say 'Time fly's when your having fun' and Billy was a real fun guest.

It was a real pleasure to chat with Denny....his Dad and Mom inspired and taught me a lot through my interactions with them both at music school in California. So, when I had a chance to chat with Tommy's son Denny about the wonderful film - 'The Wrecking Crew' I couldn't wait to hear about some of the interesting history behind how the film came to life as well as some insight into Denny's own cinematic career.
Listen in as Denny explains why his film about a legendary group of studio musicians took nearly 20 years to make. His film is all about the legendary group of 1960s Los Angeles session musicians who played on everything from Phil Spector classics and "Good Vibrations" to commercial jingles, Denny explains why the name The Wrecking Crew? Back in those early studio days of the 60s turning up for work in a Hawaiian shirt was not the done thing! Far to casual for the establishment - who believed that this group of session musicians would 'wreck' the industry by dressing in a casual manner!
The movie, started in 1996 with a roundtable conversation featuring his father, guitarist Tommy Tedesco (who died in 1997), bassist Carol Kaye, drummer Hal Blaine and saxophonist Plas Johnson. The film premiered in 2008, starting in film festival and you can currently watch it on Amazon Prime. Denny goes onto explain the daunting task of clearing 110 songs with 90 plus of them being top 40 hits.
Imagine paying dozens of musicians, publishers and labels residual royalties for their music to be included in the documentary! Denny never gave up and pitched the documentary to many people, he raised enough money to pay 297 session musicians whose names were on contracts for the songs used in the documentary film. Denny still remains as dedicated as he did in 1996 to telling this very important story about 'The Wrecking Crew' and their invaluable contribution to the music industry told through this insightful and extremely enjoyable documentary film.
We've only really scratched the surface of Denny Tedesco and his own cinematic career - his time at IMAX and his latest documentary in production - 'The Immediate Family', and much, much more...To find out more about Denny Tedesco and connect follow the links below.

Darrell was introduced to Yuri through Darrell's performance connection with the well-known traditional Bon Daiko drummer Isaku Kageyama.
YURI KAGEYAMA is a poet, fiction writer, essayist, journalist, filmmaker and songwriter of bilingual and bicultural (Japanese and American) upbringing chats with Darrell Craig Harris on Music Matters. Yuri shares her thoughts on current daily life in Tokyo and shares her keen perspectives on how we all need to be personally responsible if we wish for a collective legacy that offers a positive outcome for our succeeding generations.
Yuri talks about her award winning film - “NEWS FROM FUKUSHIMA” which has garnered great support as it's premiered in film festivals around the world. Yuri recites her moving poem about the plight of fukushima accompanied by Darrell on his bass guitar in a moving online live performance for us.
This film is a a stark example of lessons we must learn from the under-reported catastrophic failure of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant which suffered major damage from the magnitude 9.0 earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on March 11, 2011. The chain of events caused radiation releases from Units 1-4 forcing the evacuation of 83,000 residents from towns around the plant. The triple meltdown also caused concerns about contamination of food and water supplies, including the 2011 rice harvest, and also the health effects of radiation on workers at the plant. Scientists estimate that the accident released 18 quadrillion becquerels of caesium-137 into the Pacific Ocean, contaminating 150 square miles of the ocean floor.

It was great to re-connect with Dave at his home in south-east London, UK. After a long British summer, Dave found himself not only in the second lockdown but to boot it was raining - I wonder if it was sunny would he have spoken to me in his garden with a great British beer in-hand! Our chat was insightful and great fun. Amongst many achievements Dave has been the featured bassist on 7 double platinum-selling albums - so we could have spoken for hours!
Below is a shortened - extract of Dave's extensive professional experience - which I encourage you to read and visit his website and social media channels.
Since joining Jools Holland and His Rhythm and Blues Orchestra in 1991, Dave Swift has established himself as one of the UK’s finest, high-profile bass players. In his 30+ year career makes for an impressive portfolio, playing with renowned artists such as George Benson, Chaka Khan, Eric Clapton and Paul Simon. This list of famous names continues on and on...
Dave has performed at many prestigious events including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Dubai International Jazz Festival, Blue Note Tokyo, Amnesty International, the Montreux Jazz Festival, Glastonbury Music Festival, and a G8 Conference for world leaders, which included former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and President Bill Clinton. Additional performances include the Millennium Night celebration at the Millennium Dome for Her Majesty the Queen and a sell-out concert at the Sydney Opera House during their 2008 tour of Australia and New Zealand.
Dave Swift has been the in-house bassist for Chris Evans’s primetime Saturday night TV show, Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush, and Name That Tune on Channel 5. Since their inception, Dave Swift has performed on both the BBC TV show, Later…with Jools Holland, and the Jools Holland Show on BBC Radio 2. Where there is music, there is Dave Swift; he’s recorded on many British movie soundtracks, which include: Secret Friends (Dennis Potter), MILK (Dawn French), Kevin and Perry Go Large (Harry Enfield & Cathy Burke), and Hunting Venus (Martin Clunes). More recently he recorded the soundtrack for the period drama Me & Orson Welles, starring Zac Efron, Christian McKay and Claire Danes.

When you have a friend that's happy to pick you up from the airport at a moments notice and has been picked by Billy Joel as a protégé. It's time to ask him to chat on your new podcast. What a great podcast show this became. Lots of backstage sharing and a real treat to hear Michael play for us all live from his home studio in Las Vegas.
Read some short extracts from a resume that's like a mini-book - Michael Cavanaugh is the new voice of the American Rock & Roll Songbook and a charismatic performer and musician made famous for his piano/lead vocals in the Broadway musical Movin’ Out. Handpicked by Billy Joel to star in Movin’ Out, Cavanaugh evokes a style rivalling the Piano Man. In this lead role, he received both Tony and Grammy nominations.
After the end of the broadway show in late 2005. Michael started touring and soon became one of the hottest artists in the private events market, and he continues to perform worldwide for company and charity events as well as sporting events including many PGA tour events, the SuperBowl, and the Indy 500. His interpretation of the modern rock/pop songbook led to Billboard calling him “The New Voice of the American Rock and Roll Songbook,” and he was recognized by Reuters as Entertainer of the Year for the private events market.
Michael continues to tour all of his well-known four symphony productions along with performing with his band in performing arts centers and other public venues.
“The Way I Hear It”, his second commercial album, was released in April 2017, and it debuted at #17 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.
In 2020, Michael Cavanaugh reached the POLLSTAR Live75. The top 75 active touring acts in the country.

Listen in on my insightful and moving chat with Bassist Rudy Sarzo which really impacted me! Rudy and I spoke about many things including why connection through music is part of the vital life-blood that musicians can give to their audiences as well as receive from the audience with gratitude. Also, Rudy shared his feelings about the tragic unexpected passing of Ozzy’s legendary guitarist Randy Rhoades, and the last moment's Rudy spent with his long time friend and bandmate from Quiet Riot Frankie Banali! It was very honest, real, and very emotional! I hope you get a chance to hear what Rudy has to share. Rudy’s a very spiritual guy which he talks about in our chat, he made it clear that both Randy and Frankie were family to him!

Welcome to this episode of Music Matters Podcast. This time my very special guest is a man and artist that I've admired for a long-time. The one and only Rock Bass Guitar legend Billy Sheehan.
Billy is known for his work with Talas, Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Mr. Big, Niacin, and The Winery Dogs. Sheehan has won the "Best Rock Bass Player" readers' poll from Guitar Player magazine five times for his "lead bass" playing style. Billy currently lives in Nashville and it was really a pleasure to chat with both a fellow pro bass player, and hear him share some of his backstories, his thoughts, current and future plans with me. We covered a lot of areas in our hour-long chat over Zoom.
I highly recommend you check out his website and sign up for his social media channels to keep up to date with ALL things Billy Sheehan
