#35 Mariam Al-Saifi

Mariam Al-Saifi was born in al-Walaja in 1944. The Israelis started shooting at us. We heard a lot of shooting för several days, especially at night. One day people told us that the Israeli army was approaching from Beit Safafa. The shooting got louder and I was afraid. My mum and dad told us to get up and start preparing ourselves. My father carried his mother over his back. She was in her 80´s and panicked. She was afraid and weak. He also carried a small bag of flour. My oldest brother, Mustafa, carried some olive oil.
