In the episode, we sit down with author and journalist Keith Thompson to talk about his long history with the topic of ufology and his relationships with some of the greatest influences in the field, including John Mack, Jeffrey Kripal, and Laurence Rockefeller. Thompson is an author, independent journalist, talk radio personality, former TV show host, and former U.S. Senate staff member. His articles have appeared in the New York Times, Esquire, San Francisco Chronicle, Idaho Statesman, and the Pacific Sun. His newest book, "The UFO Paradox: The Celestial and Symbolic World of Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon," chronicles his own personal anomalous experiences, including an early spiritual epiphany, as well as a near death experience that introduced Thompson to the complexities of human consciousness, as well as the failure of materialism as a paradigm to include and explain such phenomenon. In this book, Thompson uses these personal experiences to launch into a penetrating analysis of the UFO/UAP/NHI presence on Earth, and does so through an often startling and broad survey of relevant folklore, science, philosophy, and imagination. Thompson relates the experience of UFO encounters to initiatory rites of passage, shamanic and otherwise, thereby linking these events to what may be an ongoing call from a higher intelligence to embrace a cosmic consciousness.
