"On The Count Of Three" had its world premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, where a lot of people were wondering who would be daring enough to pick up the film, which dealt with a highly sensitive subject matter, blending dark comedy with the heartwarming drama between two best friends who make a pact to kill themselves on the same day. Screenwriters Ari Katcher and Ryan Welch had a difficult tight rope to walk when communicating the themes of their story and the humanity of their characters without rubbing audiences the wrong way. The overall positive critical reception to the film suggests they struck the balance just right.
