Simon Gudgeon is one of Britain’s leading contemporary sculptors, possibly best known for the striking three-meter-tall bronze sculpture Serenity which stands on the shores of the Serpentine lake in London’s Hyde Park.
His career, in his words, has been "a series of very happy accidents", which has led to his monumental sculpture being featured in prominent international private collections and impressive public art placements.
Simon is also the founder of Sculpture By The Lakes, a stunning park located in Dorset, England which is an abundance of nature, wildlife and sculpture. Recently, as the park is currently closed, Simon has been documenting the walkways, viewpoints, gardens and artworks in a series of personal and informative videos which are available to view online.
In our conversation, Simon shares his journey as a painter and sculptor and how his childhood, filled with impressions from countryside and nature, inspired his artist's process and subject matter.
We shall be exhibiting three of Simon's sculptures in bronze, Luna, Bird of Happiness and Search For Enlightenment at our HANSA LOVES ART pop up at HANSA Malmö, which opens on 20th May - 27th June.
