A podcast that takes a look back at the albums, artists, and stories of the classic rock era. Part of Pantheon Podcasts.
The podcast Play That Rock n‘ Roll is created by playthatpodcast. The podcast and the artwork on this page are embedded on this page using the public podcast feed (RSS).
This is Play That Rock n' Roll's interview with former TNA Ring Announcer David Penzer about his new book, "SITTING RINGSIDE, Volume 2: The XWF, TNA and Life After Wrestling". And as an added bonus, we are joined by a special guest co-host: AAron Camaro from the Decibel Geek podcast!
We discuss some of the topics Dave covered in the book, including an infamous confrontation between Rowdy Roddy Piper and Vince Russo, but most of this interview is actually about music!
When Dave was here last time, he mentioned that he is a huge rock music fan and that he’s seen over a thousand concerts. Since we’re a music show, I figured this would be a great opportunity for Dave to share some stories and opinions on various rock and roll topics.
In this conversation, Dave shares some hot takes on bands like KISS, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Chicago, and even Pablo Cruise. He also talks about his interactions with Gene Simmons and Rickey Medlocke from Lynyrd Skynyrd. Plus he tells us about some of the best concerts he’s ever seen.

First is an interview with Jeanne Basone aka HOLLYWOOD from GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling). In this conversation, Hollywood talks about her time in GLOW, her thoughts on some of WWF's female talent, and her appearance on the sitcom "Married... with Children". We also discuss Hulk Hogan's use of the "Hollywood" moniker in the late '90s, and she even recites one of her old-school GLOW entrance RAPS!
Next up is a hysterical conversation with production designer and author Mick Strawn. Mick tells some absolutely hilarious stories about working on movies like "RUNAWAY TRAIN" (1985) and "BREAKIN' 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO" (1984).
And finally, we sat down with the legendary Bebe Buell! Bebe talks about her new book "Rebel Soul" and the re-issue of her first EP "Covers Girl", both of which are being released through her new label HOZAC RECORDS . We discuss her musical partnership with Ric Ocasek, the sexism she has endured throughout her whole career, and also her unheralded (but essential!) role in kickstarting the mid-80s supergroup THE POWER STATION.

In light of the recent passing of Tony Lewis, Episode 14 takes a look back at the career and music of The Outfield. We discuss how the partnership between bassist/vocalist Tony Lewis, guitarist/songwriter John Spinks and drummer Alan Jackman created maybe *the* greatest pop-rock song of the 1980's, in addition to the rest of their catalog, which includes a tremendous amount of wonderful music. John and Tony have since passed away, so this episode has been recorded in tribute to them, and it is meant as a celebration of the incredible work these men gave to the world. RIP.
