When passing a man soaking up the sun in his electric wheelchair while blasting some 60's soul music, I knew I had to interview him about his favorite song at the moment: My Girl, by The Temptations. After our interview, I tell you all about the wild story of Panchiko, a late 90's / early 2000's band who I saw live recently, who wouldn't be known at all if it weren't for some people on the internet a couple years ago.

For this year's College Radio Day, the theme is "Voices For Peace," specifically relating to the war in Ukraine. I had people send in recordings of them talking about their favorite peace / anti-war related songs, and I play both the recordings and songs on today's episode. I also play music from the Russian group увула (Uvula) who has spoken out against the war, as well as some Ukrainian Funk, plus my favorite peace related song.

Mark, owner of Sunshine Octopus, tells me about his favorite Grateful Dead song, some of the 620 shows he went to, and meeting the band. 

The version I used in the song snippet is the 1969 Fillmore West San Fran version. This was the first live version released, and is the first time most people heard this song. This song was considered the holy grail Grateful Dead song to see live, and only was played once between 1980-1989. It was played mostly in the early 70's. The studio version doesn't do it justice one bit.

I haven't had time recently to make full on episodes with interviews and all. So in this episode I play and briefly talk about some songs I've been enjoying since my last episode. When asking my friend what his favorite song at the moment was, a full on conversation about music sparked between me, him, and our two other friends in the room. Once a song is mentioned, a snippet of that song will play, so this is a great way to get put on to a bunch of music at once. The music ranges from Funkadelic, to Wu Tang, to Diplo, to the Fallout 4 Soundtrack, to George Harrison, to Daft Punk, to Herbie Hancock, etc- so you're bound to find something new.  We even talk about what the Mamba Mentality really is, and how it can be applied to music.
