Pride and Prejudice Vol. II Chapters 12-13

67 min • 10 mars 2020

Chapter 12: Lizzy goes for a walk to distract herself from Proposageddon. Unfortunately, Darcy finds her and gives her a letter in an attempt to clear his name. We learn why Darcy really stopped Bingley from proposing to Jane, and the tea is SPILLED on Wickham. We no longer like George Wickham. Highlights include Becca's desirability, PIVOT, coming back to some early foreshadowing, and us calling Daddy Bennet Daddy Bingley (we know and we're sorry).

Chapter 13: Lizzie's reaction, in real time, to the letter. She starts out prejudiced against Darcy, but as she continues to read, she starts to think maybe he's telling the truth. Lizzy thinks back on every conversation she's ever had with Wickham and how improper he always was, as well as her own family's behavior. Highlights include the seventh Harry Potter book, "Don't be a Wickham," scoundrels, a little seed becoming a tree of hate, and Becca's ice cream playlist.

Study Questions: Topics discussed include Darcy's misunderstanding of Jane's feelings, Lizzy and Darcy's opinions on marrying for love, the Bennet family, the Economics of Dating in Jane Austen TM, Little Women (Graham and Torrence both thought Jane Austen wrote Little Women), class and gender and Wickham (the fuckboy to end all fuckboys), Wickham's motivations, elopement in this time period, and the UNRELIABLE NARRATOR.

Funniest Quote: "'I have been walking in the grove some time in the hope of meeting you. Will you do me the honor of reading that letter?' And then, with a slight bow, turned again into the plantation, and was soon out of sight."

Questions moving forward: We want to meet Georgie. Will we see Wickham again? Is Lizzy going to talk to Darcy? Did Fitzy hang out because he wanted to wingman?

Who wins the chapters? Darcy!
