Chapter 4: Lizzy receives two letters from Jane, and they contain BAD NEWS, folks. Letter 1 tells us Lydia has run off to Scotland to elope with Wickham. Letter 2 tells us they have NOT gone to Scotland, and have simply disappeared to go bang. Lizzy confides in Darcy. Highlights include New Jersey, Kitty is Anger, sex in the time of Jane Austen, dating in quarantine, Lizzy finally realizing she's in love, and the original title of this novel.
Chapter 5: Lizzy and the Gardiners go back to Longbourn. Mrs. Bennet is in a state, and Mary has a Puritan moment. We read Lydia's letter to Lady Forster. Highlights include the Bennet Parents and the patriarchy, the Daddy Bennet reckoning, an in depth comparison the Chekhov's plays, Mr. Colonel, and IS KITTY SICK?
Study Questions: Topics discussed include what this says about Lydia's character, why this is a big turning point, Wickham's motives (revenge on Lizzy or Darcy? or a complete lack of impulse control?), sex in the Austen era, and Darcy's reaction to the news, and Darcy as a vampire stalker.
Funniest Quote: "And now here's Mr. Bennet gone away, and I know he will fight Wickham wherever he meets him, and then he will be killed, and what is to become of us all! The Collinses will turn us out before he is cold in his grave. And if you are not kind to us brother, I do not know what we shall do!" -Mrs. Bennet
Questions Moving Forward: Will Darcy overcome this and be with Lizzy? Will Lydia be found? Will Bingley come back?
Who wins the chapters? DIZZY!
