In episode 24, MTT Coach Gareth James and Peak Performance Consultant Dr. Tricia Cardner kicked off the show by discussing some of the latest poker news including the changes at Pokerstars and Phil Ivey’s recent court case.
We then launched into the show with Tricia answering a listener question about how to stay motivated when it is taking a long time to move up in stakes and progress seems slow. Tricia explained the four variables in the motivation equation and gave some tips on how to stay motivated for the long haul.
Gareth then addressed a question that one of his coaching clients brought up regarding effective stack sizes and how we play when we have the larger or smaller of the two. As an example, there is a big difference when a 15bb stack opens from the cutoff and we are in the BB with 40bbs versus when a 40bb stack opens in the cutoff and we have 15bb in the BB. Gareth explained the various options for jamming versus min-raising as well as cbetting.
