In this very special Bonus Episode, Elric flies solo and talks to some folks behind the new film COMING HOME IN THE DARK.
One of the best reviewed & hardest hitting films of the year is now in theaters and VOD and happens to be directed by one of Elric’s oldest friends James Ashcroft. The two discuss the film (spoiler-free mostly) and touch on other impactful New Zealand films and James discusses a few key films that influenced his dark vision. In the second part of the episode Elric hosted the live post-screening Q & A with the star of the film, actor Daniel Gillies (The originals). This conversation is all spoilers so watch the film before listening. Thanks to the American Cinematheque for recording this conversation.
In this Episode, Elric and Brian take a long look at the old "Dogs of the Week" Segment that Siskel and Ebert used to do as part of their show in the lates 70s and early 80s. The "Dogs" were their picks for the worst films of a given week and they even had a small canine called "Spot the Wonderdog" who would kick of each of these segments with a little bark. Many interesting films were panned during the Dogs of the Week period and some of them definitely are truly dogs whilst others may have more going on and be interesting to discuss.

For this very special episode, we are joined again by Mr. Quentin Tarantino to talk about Final Films from directors. By "Final Films", we are of course referring to the last film that a director did - the one that closed out their career. This is the first time Quentin has done a proper episode with us and we were very excited to have him pick "5 Films Because" with us on this topic. We hope you enjoy the conversation - it's one of our favorite episodes that we've done!

To kick off 2021, Elric and Brian go back to the very beginnings of the show where they declared that their 5 film lists would "5 Films Because" as to open things up for the highlighting of not just favorites and "best" films in a category, but rather anything they'd like to highlight. As such, both of them have chosen 5 films to talk about this episode and there wasn't any rhyme or reason to the choosing. Just 5 films they each wanted to watch and films that hadn't really been chosen as picks on the show before. Enjoy!

Since the New Beverly is mostly playing ONCE UPON A TIME... IN HOLLYWOOD this month, Elric, Brian and Phil took this opportunity to talk to the film's Editor Fred Raskin about the movie. If you're unfamiliar with Fred's work, he's edited other films for Tarantino such as DJANGO UNCHAINED and THE HATEFUL EIGHT as well as both GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY films and three consecutive FAST AND FURIOUS movies starting with TOKYO DRIFT. On top of that, he also cut BONE TOMAHAWK and THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS! So Fred is the main guest interview for most of this episode and in the last section, all the matinees and kiddie shows playing at the theater in August are discussed. Be warned though, ONCE UPON A TIME...IN HOLLYWOOD is covered in great detail on this episode with major spoilers throughout, so please be aware of that before listening! Enjoy!

The idea for "Kiddee Midnights" was born out of the "Kiddee Matinees" and Midnight screenings that have been discussed on the New Beverly Calendar episodes of the show. The thought was to join them together in a peanut butter and chocolate kind of way and on this episode, Elric and Brian are joined by Millie De Chirico who programs TCM Underground (and more) to take on the topic. Each of them has selected five double features - containing one kids film and one midnight/cult film. This episode was a lot of fun to research and record so please enjoy!
