Radio 1’s Screen Time

You know how it goes - the inevitable sequel to the successful original, eh? Little over a month since their last appearance, friend of the show (and The Independent's chief film critic) Clarisse Loughrey joins forces once again with Digital Spy's Movies Editor Ian Sandwell to review the biggest releases of the past few weeks with good ol' Ali, including A Quiet Place: Day One, Kinds Of Kindness and more. Plus, a look back on Inside Out 2 now that it's the BIGGEST FILM OF THE YEAR in just a few weeks (sorry about that Dune Part Two).

Now that he’s seen it, Ali can talk about Inside Out 2 - he’s good like that, waiting to see the film before he gives his thoughts on it - as well as this week’s big release, The Bikeriders (you know, with Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy and a lot of classic motorbikes). And then there’s the cherry on top, some bonus House Of The Dragon chat from the cast of series two, including Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke and Fabian Frankel.

Comedian, presenter, writer and arts 'n' crafts connoisseur Bec Hill joins Ali this week for a special Ali Plumb's Film Club episode of Radio 1's Screen Time, where the geeky, animation-loving pair chat about the original Pixar classic Inside Out (2015) in advance of its sequel hitting cinemas this weekend. They do their level best not to cry as they talk about Bing Bong, The Numskulls and whether PIxar is actually making movies for adults and not, um, for kids.

June is here, and with it - we are told - the summer. Summer means blockbuster movies, and so Radio 1's Screen Time is here, ready to remind you of what's coming out and when. With The Euros and The Olympics both fighting for your attention this year, there may not be quite as many big movies as you were expecting, but there's still a fair bunch of them, and Ali is here to guide you through the dates in your diary. Plus! Friend of the show and all-round excellent human being Daisy Ridley stops by to chat about her new film, sports biopic Young Woman And The Sea (as well as the fine art of surprising Ali on stage).

A very special spoiler special for you this week - one that relies on you having watched the new Fallout series, what with it being... all about the new Fallout series. What makes it extra special is the reappearance of one of its stars on this here podcast, Ella Purnell herself, who plays Lucy in the show and is casually utterly excellent. She stops by for 15 mins of spoilery chat, then new friend of the show Jane Douglas - broadcaster, gamer, D&Der and Fallout fan - sits down with Ali for a very, very rambly (even by Ali's standards) wander around the spoiler wasteland. Mad (in a nice way) Mad Max fan - okay, expert - Ian Nathan stops by to talk about the franchise as whole and the incredible story of how the previous film, Fury Road, somehow managed to make its way into cinemas after the most unbelievable production.

By now, you'd think Ali would have shut up about going on holiday to Japan... and yet, that's somehow not the case - but with good reason! Joining him to talk about the critically adored drama series Shōgun is his new best pal Chris Broad - creator of the Abroad In Japan YouTube channel and a man who knows a thing or two about the land of the rising sun - and now you can enjoy their exceptionally geeky and thoroughly spoiler-filled conversation yourself, with one of them (Ali) still jetlagged and the other (Chris) in his studio in Tokyo. Fingers crossed most of this makes some sort of sense.

It’s a return visit from Such Brave Girls’ Kat Sadler for a short and sweet Ali Plumb’s film club while he shakes off the jet lag from his trip to Japan. Kat’s choice for everyone’s favourite on and off film club? National Treasure. As in, Nic Cage and Sean Bean and puzzles and stealing the declaration of Independence. It’s better than you remember, honest.

It’s been a short while since Denis Villeneuve took us all on a return trip to Arrakis, but with Dune: Part Two starting up its home entertainment release, Ali and his fellow Frank Herbert aficionados Clarisse Loughrey and Steffan Powell decided now was the time to really dig into what happened with Paul and Chani and the rest of the epic sci-fi sequel’s much-loved (and oh-so-complicated) characters. Expect spoilerific and highly nerdy chat on everything from the score to, well, the very final shot. So… if you haven’t seen the movie yet, maybe now’s a good time?

Such Brave Girls: the darker-than-dark BBC 3 sitcom that hopefully you’ve seen already… but then again, if you haven’t yet, that’s okay too because you’re really in for a treat. Ali’s such a fan he’s invited the star and creator, Kat Sadler, onto the podcast for a special conversation about how the programme came together. So as you may have guessed, hop to iPlayer to catch up first, whydoncha?

Fallout has landed - all eight episodes of it - and with it comes some interviews with BBC Radio 1's answer to "The Ghoul", Ali Plumb, as Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Walton Goggins and more sit down to try and make sense of the post-apocalypse. Plus, a quick round-up of the biggest blockbuster news stories of the past couple of weeks, including the MONSTER trailers that have landed lately. Yep, Joker, we're looking at you here.

You're a big fan of Dev Patel, of course you are. As is Jordan Peele, as is our Ali. So join us as we learn what trials and tribulations he endured and magnificently overcame in the process of putting together his directorial debut, the gritty action thriller Monkey Man on this here podcast. Spoiler alert: it's safe to say the bone-breaking struggle that was the Monkey Man production has finally paid off, with happy critics comparing it to John Wick as it hits cinemas square in the jaw this weekend. Plus! Ali reminds us what new movies have landed on the biggest streaming services in the UK, including BBC iPlayers amazing film section...

While Ali's been poorly of late, we're not going to let you down podcast-wise, no no no - so here are some Poor Things interviews we didn't include on Screen Time back when the film was first released in the UK back in January. And it's perfect timing (sort of) with the film now on streaming, so it's almost as if we planned it, eh? Plus: have you heard about Robot Dreams? It's this adorable and wonderful and thoroughly excellent animation Ali's very keen on, check it out, go on.

Lots of exclamations in the title there, apologies - but then again, when you've got acting talent like this lot on your podcast, maybe a few exclamations can be forgiven. This week we have a slightly poorly Ali as he wraps up the past seven day's biggest news headlines, chucks out a few TV recommendations and then presses play on a couple of interviews in honour Ghostbusters Frozen Empire (Ernie Hudson and McKenna Grace) and then Netflix's new sci-fi show 3 Body Problem (Benedict Wong and John Bradley). It's a bumper week, that's for sure.

Friend of the show and casually very funny man Ben Schwartz - also known to some as Parks and Rec’s Jean-Ralphio, the voice of Sonic The Hedgehog and an improv artist extraordinaire - joins Ali this week to talk about the Oscars, how to pull jokes out of thin air and the classic of classics that is Back To The Future for a very special edition of Ali Plumb’s Film Club.

After a bit of news, a few recommendations for what you might want to watch this weekend - Dune Part Two is in cinemas too, let's not forget - a little later on in the podcast you’ll hear from two human beings who are in Guy Ritchie’s new Netflix show, The Gentlemen, namely old friend of the show (sort of, you’ll see) Kaya Scodelario and new friend of the show (go on, let’s say he is, why not?) Theo James. Just before you press play, ask yourself this question: Lock, Stock or Snatch? It's a tricky one to answer, now ain't it?

Today we have a podcast of two halves: one half is a spoiler-free review of the long-awaited, eagerly anticipated Dune Part Two, the second part of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of the classic Frank Herbert sci-fi novel, with friend of the show and Independent film critic in chief (and die-hard self-professed “Dunehead”) Clarisse Loughrey joining Ali for an extensive chat. The other half is a conversation with charming up and comer Nicholas Galitzine in honour of his new Sky historical drama Mary And George, where he plays James I's court favourite George Villiers, aided by his Machiavellian mother, portrayed by one Julianne Moore. Please enjoy both halves, we insist!

A podcast of two halves for you this week as Ali reacts to some of the biggest movies and TV news stories of the past seven days - including the winners at the BAFTAs, but of course - then things get really rather silly as Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley talk about their new (and incredibly sweary) film, Wicked Little Letters, a movie about incredibly adult language that requires incredibly adult language to discuss. So it's moderately serious (ish) to begin with as the news is laid out for you and the BAFTAs are appreciated... and then things go off the rails immediately as Olivia, Jessie and Ali lose the plot straight away. Humorously, we like to think.

Netflix’s adaptation of David Nicholls’ much-loved novel One Day has been a storming success since it landed online last week, with seemingly everyone you know talking about Ambika Mod’s Emma and Leo Woodall’s Dexter with a tear in their eye around the proverbial water cooler. So now seemed like a good time to invite Ambika herself into the Radio 1 studios to chat with Ali about the most emotional moments in the show with spoilers very much allowed. So, in short, make sure you’ve watched One Day before you press play - you have been warned!

Originally the plan was to speak to one "Martin Scorsese" - whoever he might be - for this week's podcast, but it was not to be. Alas and, indeed, alack. Stepping in, we have the full audio version of Paul Mescal's Story So Far interview that you may have seen (if you're in the UK) on Radio 1's iPlayer channel, where the Normal People, Aftersun and now All Of Us Strangers star talks to Ali about his career, his favourite 'corpsers' and, um, vitamin gummy bears. Plus! Ali gives us a very brief round up of the latest news headlines - Moana 2, oh my - as well as his thoughts on A24 and Zac Efron's latest, The Iron Claw.

Now that the dust has settled just a little bit, Ali has teamed up with fellow full-time film fan Ella Kemp - of Letterboxd’s ‘Four Faves’ fame - to talk through all the runners and riders for this year’s Academy Awards (Sunday March 10th, for those wondering, with the BAFTAs on Sunday February 18th) after the controversial announcement last week of who got what nods. So whip out your proverbial pen and paper because a lot of great movies get mentioned here and there’s a decent chance you’ll want to watch a few of them…

All Of Us Strangers may finally be in cinemas - and Ali’s Story So Far interview with one of its stars, Paul Mescal, may be on be on BBC iPlayer right about now - but here on Radio 1’s Screen Time we’re shining a light on Big Boys, Jack Rooke’s semi-autobiographical sitcom, which has recently returned to Channel 4 to rave reviews. Here, Jack sits down with Ali for this interview special, featuring a surprise appearance from a Radio 1 DJ to boot, which touches on British comedy as a whole and just how tricky it is to get a show like Big Boys off the ground.

It’s awards season! Poor Things came out last week, The Holdovers is out this week and All Of Strangers is out next week - so it’s a great time to be a film fan (moreso than ever). But here’s something just a smidge different for you: a fun and fact-filled chat with two of the human beings behind one of Ali’s films of the year, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, those loveable geniuses Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. So as long as you don’t mind a wee bit of strong language (and a spoiler or two), this is the interview special for you.

After checking his calendar a couple of times, Ali is pretty sure that 2024 is finally, definitely, absolutely here, and with it some very exciting films for us to all look forward to. But with Screen Time being a film *and* TV podcast, joining the party this week is TV expert (and BBC 5 Live's very own) Scott Bryan, who stopped by to talk about some of the big small screen releases - if that makes sense - that are on their way this particular 12 months. Plus, a reminder of Poor Things' arrival in cinemas and a few other bits and bobs.

Radio 1’s Screen Time welcomes in 2024 with a truly lovely interview with Dan Levy: writer, director, producer and star of Good Grief, a comedy-drama motion picture you can watch on Netflix, well, right about now. Chances are, you know Dan from playing David Rose on a certain Canadian sitcom megahit by the name of Schitt's Creek (which he also co-created and wrote) - so that does come up a little bit - as does professional people-pleasing anxiety (in a fun way!) and the fine art of taking a compliment successfully. And, as a little new year bonus, we've also got a brief round-up of the biggest releases coming out this month, because we're nice.

Is Die Hard a Christmas film? It's a question seemingly as old as the movie itself - first came out in 1988, fact fans - but whatever your thoughts on that controversial pub conversation question, December seemed like the perfect time to bring friend of the podcast (and Empire Magazine editor, as it goes) Nick de Semlyen on to chat about just why we love John McClane so much - and how the film changed the landscape of action cinema forever. A word to the wise, by the way: as you might imagine with this being a spoiler special about Die Hard, this podcast contains both, well, spoilers and, um, swear words. You know, there's a line in this movie, and... yeah. Fair warning!

There’s something very very exciting going on on your televisions this Christmas time - and that’s Ncuti Gatwa’s first fully-fledged standalone outing as The Doctor, Doctor Who, on BBC One. The Christmas special is called 'The Church On Ruby Road' and you can watch it on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK from 5.55pm on December 25th. To celebrate that fact, here's an interview with Ncuti where Ali tries to talk about the character of The Doctor, about how he got the role, about what it all means to him... without giving away spoilers, because boy oh boy do spoilers abound.

Friends of the show Clarisse Loughrey (The Independent's chief film critic) and Dan Layton (film and TV reviewer extraordinaire) join Ali once again to try and do justice to the year that was/is 2023, discussing their five favourite films and trying to wrap their heads around what's been "slept on" in the past 12 months. Colin From Accounts? Slow Horses? Rye Lane? The list goes on and on - you may want to whip out your notepad, a lot of possible new favourites are going to be coming your way. Plus! As a little bonus, Adam Driver, Penelope Cruz and Shailene Woodley make a brief appearance at the end to talk Ferrari (out next week, fact fans).

If you were to cast a young Willy Wonka, who'd be your first choice for the role? Why it'd have to be Timothée Chalamet - but of course - just the sort of person who can sing and dance and charm his way around a delightful musical confection from the mind of Paddington(s) director Paul King. In this interview special podcast, Ali talks to pretty much the whole cast of the film, including the likes of Olivia Colman, Tom Davis, Keegan-Michael Key (to name but a few), but the emphasis is very much on Paul King himself and this Timothée Chalamet fellow, so if you're a fan of either - and well you might be - this is just the golden ticket.

It's beginning to look a lot like... December! Because, well, it is December - which means you can now officially (according to Ali, anyway) watch as many Christmas films, Christmas TV specials, Christmas musical extravaganzas as you jolly well wish. To celebrate this joyous occasion, Ali has spoken to two human beings who know a thing or two about the festive spirit, namely Hannah Waddingham (of Ted Lasso and now 'Home For Christmas' fame) and Otis Milburn himself, Asa Butterfield, the star of both Your Christmas Or Mine? and Your Christmas Or Mine 2 (out December 8th, fact fans).

Vanessa Kirby plays Josephine in Ridley Scott’s latest, Napoleon, finally out in cinemas this weekend, and, well, what do you know, with the strikes lifted she was able to join Ali for a conversation all about it which you’ll be able to listen to on this here podcast. Plus! Ali offers up a quick recap of some of the biggest releases in cinemas this weekend, including Disney’s 100th birthday animation, Wish.

Have you heard? The SAG AFTRA actors strikes are over, which means there be actors in these here podcasts: namely Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Hunter Schafer and Josh Andrés Rivera, the stars of the new Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Joining them is their director, Panem veteran Francis Lawrence, as they talk about returning to The Capitol and what makes their take different to what we've seen before with that Jennifer Lawrence character.

So this is an unusual episode of Radio 1's Screen Time - sort of - in so far as there are not one but TWO interviews to enjoy, namely Saltburn's Emerald Fennell and The Marvels' Nia DaCosta. Plus, as a bonus, we've also got a brief review of Nic Cage's Dream Scenario in the middle, making this one heck of a cinematic sandwich.

With Ali only just back from his trip to the USA, we've been digging through the back catalogue for a throwback interview special, and look who popped up! Twice! Some handsome chap known as Tom Hiddleston, and with Loki back on Disney+ for a second series, it made perfect sense to put together the TWO 'Becoming... Loki' interviews he's done over the years, once as Infinity War came out (2018) and another when Loki came to town first time around (2021). So join Ali has we go back through the sacred timeline and see what Tom has to say about the Marvel villain he's played for well over a decade now (!)

Ali is still in California, no doubt trying to visit as many filming locations as possible, you know what he's like - and in that particular US state, there are more than a few filming locations worth visiting, that's for sure - but fret not, there's still a podcast for you this week in the form of this Ali Plumb's Film Club. BBC podcasting compadre Greg Jenner stopped by recently to speak to fellow backflipping-whilst-singing fan Ali as they discuss what could well be the greatest movie musical of all time. Disagree? After last week's gaming special, here's a bonus interview for anyone who's just as excited as Ali about the imminent arrival of Insomniac Games' new Spider-Man outing. Bryan Intihar and Jon Paquette, two of the creative team behind the series that's also given us the original Spider-Man game in 2018 and the Miles Morales follow-up in 2020, spoke to Radio 1's in-house nerd before he jetted off on holiday. And on that note! As well as this bonus podcast, we'll also have an Ali Plumb's Film Club to tide us over next week, don't you worry!

Yes, Screen Time is primarily a film 'n' TV podcast but Ali really does love his gaming, and let's be honest, chances are you do too. So joining him for a rambling journey around the best and biggest games of 2023 - so far - are gaming journalists (and friends of the podcast) Aoife Wilson and Steffan Powell to talk about the likes of Baldur's Gate 3, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Diablo 4 and much, much, much more. Gareth Edwards - the director who gave us Godzilla and Rogue One - has a new film out in cinemas this weekend and its name is The Creator. Amazingly, it's not based on any intellectual property you might know, making it (can you imagine?) a blockbuster sci-fi that could be described as, well, original. Incredible. Truly. Hear him talk to Ali about his near future world of AI, "simulants", robot wars (kinda), Rain Man, the magic of CGI, John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Allison Janney and much much more on this special BBC Radio 1 interview podcast.

Dumb Money is in cinemas this week, telling the real-life story of the incredible GameSpot short squeeze of early 2021, centring around cat-obsessed, investing-obsessed real-life YouTuber RoaringKitty (aka Keith Gill, played in the film by Paul Dano). Yes, it's a film about the stock market, and you might be thinking that if you're not interested in that world then it's not for you... but maybe think again. As you'll hear in this interview with its director, Craig Gillespie, it's a fascinating, fast-paced, thrilling insight into a pocket of recent history that honestly very nearly defies belief. Also! As well as Paul Dano, it's also features the likes of Seth Rogen, Shailene Woodley, Anthony Ramos, Nick Offerman, Sebastian Stan and many other brilliant names - Barbie's America Ferrera, let's not forget! - so by all means, be intrigued, go on.

There's a whole lot going on in this week's podcast. In a good way! Ali and his new best friend - he likes to think, anyway - Vivian Oparah (Rye Lane, Class, Then You Run) chat about their new favourite film, the heartbreaking Korean romance Past Lives, as well as Vivian herself, before opening up the film club to talk about the wonders of Jordan Peele, concentrating on 2019's Us but touching on Nope and, of course, Get Out.

As it's somehow September and summer blockbuster season winds up for another year, Ali invited fellow film critic Clarisse Loughrey into the Radio 1 studios to try to do justice to the biggest movies of the past few months - including Barbie, Oppenheimer, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1 and maybe a few more. Warning: there are some spoilery mentions here, particularly when it comes to The Flash, but generally you should be okay.

Yes, you're absolutely right: Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse hit cinemas early June, but with summer wrapping up - how is it September already? - and the animated Spider-Sequel now on digital download, Ali and Ace thought it would be a good time to sit down for about an hour's worth of spoilerific, high geeky arachno-chat. A lot is discussed, but fair warning: A 'n' A don't get into the 'different versions of the films released' side of things, but loads of other stuff is, don't you worry!

Ali's ol' buddy ol' pal Nikesh Patel - who just so happens to be a very successful actor, off of Amazon's horror sci-fi The Devil's Hour and the BBC's Rose Matafeo rom-com series Starstruck - stopped by the BBC Radio 1 Screen Time studio to catch up recently, and here's the podcast to prove it. So as well as talking about how Starstruck is back on our screens on the 28th August, Nikesh also was generous enough to join an 'Ali Plumb's Film Club', where the pair chatted about recent feature length Groundhog Day-ish comedy Palm Springs. You know the one, with Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti. It's ace. You'll love it.

Earlier this month Cillian Murphy appeared on Radio 1's Screen Time talking about Oppenheimer, his latest with the one and only Christopher Nolan, an epic biopic that is still doing incredibly well in cinemas across the world. But that conversation was part of a bigger Movies That Made Me chat from mid-July, and this here podcast is the second half of that, a hop skip and a jump through Cillian's big screen work (with a little on Peaky Blinders), touching on the likes of Sunshine, 28 Days Later, The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception and more.

You might know him best as Jim Hopper from Stranger Things, but this weekend David Harbour is petrolhead Jack Salter in Gran Turismo, one of those films where the plot is nigh-on unbelievable but somehow based on a true story. You know, the sort of tale where a die-hard gamer (guess which one Jann Mardenborough liked to play...) becomes an actual professional racer. As you do. But as this is a 'Story So Far' interview, David kindly talks through his whole career (more or less), from Law And Order to Black Widow and back again, with a very cheeky Ali gently taking the mick all along the way.

Zoe Saldaña is an incredible actress and one we've long wanted to speak to for a 'Movies That Made Me' here at Radio 1's Screen Time - that said, the reason she was in town early in July talking to Ali was for a TV show, Taylor Sheridan and Paramount+'s action thriller Special Ops: Lioness, one so cinematic that it slots right in next to the likes of the Star Trek series, her MCU entries as Gamora, not forgetting the Avatars, Pirates Of The Caribbean and so on and so on. She's truly awe-inspiring and a fantastic interviewee so please sit back, relax and bask in the glory of the one and only Zoe Saldaña.

Speaking with Ali in back early July, David Tennant and Michael Sheen were on fine, fine form talking about the second series of Amazon Prime Video's heavenly / devilish show Good Omens - based on the book by Neil Gaiman and the late, great Sir Terry Pratchett - indulging in a nerdy request for some autographs and generally being upstanding and accommodating in a way they truly excel. Warning: contains dad jokes. Because of course it does.

Christopher Nolan's epic biopic Oppenheimer is finally in cinemas, a three-hour treat-yourself-to-IMAX thriller featuring an absolutely incredible cast, including Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Rami Malek and two of our guests on this here podcast, Robert Downey Jr. and The Man Who Would Be Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy. Christopher Nolan also makes a brief appearance, and Ali sort of embarrasses himself in front of him with a QI-like fact that could well blow your mind.

Hey Barbie! Hey Ken! Margot Robbie (Barbie herself) and Ryan Gosling (just Ken) speak to Ali Plumb about Greta Gerwig's Barbie, touching on such hot button topics as the Barbie slide, the Barbie wave, Barbie memes, Ken's rollerskates, Ken's tricky-to-say fashion pieces and Ken's totally unimportant t-shirts. Oh, and those times Margot and Ryan dressed up as a cigarette and a hamster (respectively). And that's not forgetting Greta herself, as well as America Ferrera, Simu Liu and Issa Rae, who are all on fine, fine form.

Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Cary Elwes, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby... the cast of the latest Mission: Impossible is actually truly ridiculously charming, and this podcast proves that and then some. So imagine you're balancing on top of a high speed train (with joy!) and enjoy this thrill ride of an episode (kind of).

The Witcher has returned to Netflix for a third series, but in two parts: one already up (from June 29) and the second still to come (July 27). What's more, this is the final season with Henry Cavill as Geralt Of Rivia, the White Wolf himself, as Liam Hemsworth is on his way for the next installment. Not going anywhere, however, are the three lovely people on Screen Time this week, namely Freya Allen, Joey Batey and Anya Chalotra, who enjoy a thoroughly anarchic chat with Ali about all sorts of fantastical nonsense, just the way you like it.

Black Mirror, everyone's favourite dystopian sci-fi anthology series from the twisted mind - in a good way! - of Charlie Brooker, has come back after a lengthy break with a new series, four episodes of small screen panic attacks that are seemingly designed to be discussed at length in the pub. Here, trying admirably not to give too many spoilers away, we have Charlie himself, alongside co-executive producer Jessica Rhoades, as well as some of our stars, including Kate Mara, Josh Hartnett, Salma Hayek and Annie Murphy.

Beloved writer-director Wes Anderson needs no introduction - he of The Royal Tenenbaums, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Rushmore fame - though Ali has a good bash at it, nervously and excitedly enthusing over the auteur filmmaker as he sets up his interview in honour of Wes's latest, Asteroid City (in cinemas now, as it goes), a play-cum-sci-fi about a small town in the middle of the desert centred around a meteorite that's fascinated scientists for some time. You know, that classic story. Expect cinematic book recommendations, discussions of Bryan Cranston's eating habits and a little bit on which part of which film Wes is himself proudest of.

Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny, the fifth Indy adventure, finally hits cinemas on June 30, with the final archeological outing seeing The Man In The Hat - one Harrison Ford - hanging up his, um, hat. Joining him for one last crack of the whip (and this interview special) are his costars Phoebe Waller Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen and more - including director James Mangold and a rather emotional Ali Plumb.

Ali is away on his hols so we bring you another chance to hear the classic Andrew Garfield Movies That Made Me interview from early 2022. He's a charmer, he really is. The pair talk about everything from The Social Network to Tick, Tick... Have you heard? Video game adaptations are back, and they are making big money. Well, Super Mario Bros. certainly is, and The Last Of Us is a critical darling, which means many more gaming do-overs will be on the way. To celebrate - and this is pretty tangential, sure, but any excuse to talk about Edgar Wright - Ali invited the wonderful and wise gaming expert Aoife Wilson onto the podcast to do an Ali Plumb's Film Club on a movie heavily inspired by gaming in all its glory: Scott Pilgrim Vs. For just under ten years, the ragtag Marvel heroes known as the Guardians Of The Galaxy have been a part of our superheroic / cinematic lives, and with the third film in the series now in theatres, Ali caught up with writer-director James Gunn and his cast - including Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff and Karen Gillan - to ask that big ol' question: what's the secret of their intergalactic success?

After a Zoom chat with the gang a few weeks ago, Ted Lasso himself - the one and only Jason Sudeikis - stopped by London town to speak to Ali for a 'Becoming... Ted Lasso' interview special. Warning: contains moderate series 1-2 spoilers from the show as well as, um, a hug. An audio hug. As you do.

Joe and Anthony Russo are the directors of some of the biggest Marvel movies (and so biggest Movies full stop) of all time, including Captain America The Winter Soldier, Avengers Infinity War, Captain America Civil War, and the BIG one - the biggest film of all time (for a time) - Avengers Endgame. TV-wise they've also worked on Arrested Development, Community and much more, including their new Amazon Prime mega blockbuster spy series Citadel, which brought them to London recent to talk to our Ali about skis, exploding trains and director cameos.

Hot off the success of The Last Of Us, professional cinematographer / director of photography Eben Bolter joins Ali this week to talk about one of the most beautiful (and most influential) sci-fis ever made, Blade Runner. Impossible to do justice in under an hour - or given any length of time at all, really - this film of films goes under the microscope as they pair try, enthusiastically, to work out just what makes it so very, very special.

This is an interview special in honour of the extremely talented, utterly charming and truly delightful Melanie Lynskey. Currently she’s in Yellowjackets, the Paramount+ show about a high school soccer (that is to say, football) team who, in the '90s, survive a horrific plane crash that leaves them stranded in the Canadian wilderness, struggling to survive, stay warm, stay sane, and, um, stay fed. It's... not a comedy. Melanie, however, is an utter joy, and here's the interview to prove it.

British animation institution Aardman is celebrating 30 years since Wallace And Gromit gem The Wrong Trousers, so what better way to celebrate the home of Morph, Shaun The Sheep and The Pirate Captain than to... invite comedian Abi Clarke onto the show to talk about Chicken Run, eh? To be fair, the sequel is out on Netflix later on this yeah, so it kinda makes sense. And it's Chicken Run! It's a classic of classics! So any excuse, really...

Los Angeles-based film critic Grae Drake joins Ali for a spoilerific chat about Steven Spielberg's future-predicting sci-fi classic Minority Report, starring some guy called Tom Cruise. He'll be back on the big screen later this year for another Impossible Mission, but for now let's celebrate one of the best entries in either Cruise's or Spielberg's back catalogue (yep, we went there).

HBO, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann absolutely knocked it out of the park with The Last Of Us, we can all agree - nine episodes of some of the best TV we've seen in quite some time - but that isn't going to stop Ali and friend of the show Ash Crossan from doing a spoiler special Screen Time podcast about. They may both love the games and love the show, but when it comes to spoiler specials, if there are nits, they will be picked - even if they're pretty darn hard to find. Pedro Pascal is, as they say, so hot right now. Playing the son of Apollo Creed, Adonis "Donny" Creed, is hard enough a task just by itself, but to also direct and produce the latest Creed film? That's a lot - but fortunately Michael B. Marcel The Shell With Shoes On, then: a live-action-cum-stop-motion hybrid animated comedy-drama that couldn't be "indier" if it tried, telling the story of a tiny adorable shell (called Marcel, you guessed it) who lives, Borrowers-style, with his grandmother in an empty house. Oh, and he wears little shoes. Honestly, you have to see it to believe it, but it truly is one of the best films you'll see this year. Here then is the voice of Marcel (and co-creator) Jenny Slate, talking about the meaning of this instant cult classic now that it's finally hit UK cinemas.

Daryl McCormack is having a very good moment right now: nominated for two Baftas, recently seen in a critically-acclaimed Apple TV+ show Bad Sisters, and happily talking about his new best friendship with Emma Thompson, his co-star in sexual discovery comedy-drama Good Luck To You, Leo Grande. Charming and chatty and just generally a tip-top human being, Daryl nattered away with Ali over magic of the internet earlier this week, and here is the double pizza-fuelled result. In this episode of Radio 1's Screen Time, Joe tells Ali about finding his excellent cast (Ruby Stokes as Lucy Carlyle, Cameron Chapman as Anthony Lockwood, Ali Hadji-Heshmati as George Kari), his memories of '70s super spookery The Ghost Hunters and what ever happened to his once-announced-now-disappeared 'Snow Crash' sci-fi film project.

The incredibly talented and incredibly charming Russell T Davies (Queer As Folk, A Very English Scandal, Years And Years and It's A Sin) spoke to Ali this week in honour of his new ITV (and ITVX) drama Nolly, all about Noele Gordon, the '70s and early '80s soap superstar who played the indomitable Meg Richardson in Crossroads, and how her seemingly unstoppable small screen success suddenly... stopped. Oh, and it should be mentioned: Helena Bonham Carter plays Noele. Yep, it's a good 'un. And with RTD (as no-one calls him) also the man behind the 2005 revival of Doctor Who - and soon to return to the beloved franchise - that topic may up as well, if only just a little bit.

Darren Aronofsky and Brendan Fraser talk to Ali this week about their critically-acclaimed drama The Whale, as well as The Mummy bumper stickers, screentesting, Stephen Sommers' incredible directorial tips and much, much more. Forgive Ali for being particularly smitten with Brendan on this one, he's a big fan.

The Fabelmans finally arrives on British shores this weekend, with Steven Spielberg's latest enjoying the awards nominations as a not-so-little boost to remind you that yes, yes indeed, Spielberg has made another motion picture, and this one is about... him. That's right, this is a semi-autobiographical film starring the likes of Michelle Williams (who you'll hear from on this podcast), Paul Dano, Judd Hirsch and newcomer Gabriel LaBelle (again, also on this podcast!). Here you hear from Michelle and Gabe (as he prefers to be called) about the honour of bringing Spielberg's young life to, um, life.

The Last Of Us TV show is finally with us, on HBO in the US and here in the UK through Sky Atlantic / NOW. At long, long last - so to speak - The Last Of Us is here. At last. In 2013 the first game came out on PS3 - remember that? - and now, a decade later, Naughty Dog's critically-adored post-apocalyptic zombie heartbreaker has finally been adapted for the small screen, and by Chernobyl's Craig Mazin no less, so that's how you know it'll be a laugh riot. Ahem. Talking to TLOU superfan Ali we have Craig himself, as well as our Joel and Ellie, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, not forgetting game co-creator Neil Druckmann and, well, quite a few others as it goes.

There are "unbelievable stories", then there's the tale they're telling with Welcome To Chippendales, the latest Hulu drama to make its way over to the UK and land on Disney+ (alongside Welcome To Wrexham and, um, the Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers movie), inspired by a book that says a lot just in the title: 'Deadly Dance: The Chippendales Murders'. Best to say not too much more, eh? But! Kumail Nanjiani and Murray Bartlett play the two key figures in the incredible tale of how the all-male dancing revue took over the world, and how good ol' power does so love to corrupt.

Gillian Anderson needs no introduction, but with this being the introduction part of the podcast, an introduction is what she shall have. An Emmy, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild (the list goes on and on, and quite rightly) award winner, Anderson is a veteran of the X-Files series - but of course - as well as, more recently, The Crown and Sex Education, not forgetting Bleak House, American Gods, Great Expectations and much, much more. He's just got that special X factor that lifts his characters up, and frankly, Ali may be a bit obsessed. 2009's Avatar is - at the time of writing - the biggest film of all time. Ever. And now, 13 years later, its sequel is finally hitting cinemas, going by the name of Avatar: The Way Of Water. In this audio version of the BBC iPlayer programme, Ali speaks to the cast of the films - as well as producer Jon Landau and director (amongst many other things) James Cameron - to ask after the secret of the series' enormous success.

One of the very best things on Apple TV+ is Slow Horses, and one of the very best actors in Slow Horses is Jack Lowden - of Mary Queen Of Scots, Fighting With My Family and War And Peace fame - here playing alongside the legendary Gary Oldman in this thoroughly entertaining spy thriller series based on the books by Mick Herron. In this particular conversation, you'll hear Jack talking to Ali about meeting Sir Alex Ferguson, taking selfies with Mr. Oldman and what he's currently binging on TV. Pretty sure you're not going to guess what, to be honest...

With December chugging ever onwards and January and February just around the corner, what are the awards-worthy films we'll need to pretend we've seen in the new year? Friend of the show and Rotten Tomatoes' in-house awards expert Jacqueline Coley had a good old chat with Ali about the nature of modern film criticism as well as who's in the running for The Academy Awards 2023. The Whale, Tar, The Fabelmans, The Banshees of Inisherin, Women Talking... looks like we've got a lot of (very enjoyable) homework to do. You know, in a good way!

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is finally here: the 30th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the long-awaited follow-up to the box office-busting worldwide cultural phenomenon that was the first Black Panther, which came out back in 2018. Ali is back, back, back and now he's now longer feeling unwell, hooray! Ali was lucky enough to talk to Baz face to face for a good half hour, touching on everything from 'Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)' to his favourite shots in his own films. An actual, genuine, totally real romantic comedy motion picture is in cinemas right now and its name is Ticket To Paradise. It feels like it's been a while, and frankly, for fans of the genre, the return of all that 'Will they, won't they?' is just wonderful to see. The fact that both George Clooney and Julia Roberts are in it is the icing on the cake, two absurdly charming human beings slumming it with our Ali as they talk about shooting in Australia, 'Bat-nipples' (you'll see) and why Ocean's 13 is one of George's favourite movies. And that's not all, as they say, with co-stars Kaitlyn Dever, Billie Lourd and Lucas Bravo also along for the jet-setting ride.

September 21st finally sees the Rogue One prequel, Andor, premiere its first three episodes on Disney+, telling the story of how the oh-so-sneaky thief Cassian Andor ended up becoming a spy working for the Rebel Alliance. Directed and written by the one and only Tony Gilroy, it looks to be a somewhat more 'grown up' adventure in a galaxy far, far away, and talking all about that on this particular Screen Time interview special we have Mr. Gilroy himself, as well as our lead, Diego Luna, plus Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, Genevieve O'Reilly and Adria Arjona. It's a bumper one this week, we know!

There's been an absolute tonne of movie and TV news lately, so much so that Ali got back into a room - face to face, can you imagine it?! - with good ol' Ace to talk it all through. But... when it comes to Better Call Saul, Ali and Matt - a fellow superfan - decided to try to tackle the whole goshdarn lot. Yes, there's an emphasis on the most recent episodes, but they hop, skip and jump around the whole Breaking Bad Universe (is that a thing? Let's say it is) so consider the spoiler siren thoroughly sounded.

After years and years of nodunnits - Does that work? Probably not, let's move on - it seems as if there are more and more comedy crime capers coming out, with See How They Run the latest whodunnit to hit cinemas. This one has an incredible cast, including Saoirse Ronan and Sam Rockwell (who you'll hear from today), as well as Adrien Brody, Ruth Wilson, Reece Shearsmith, David Oyelowo, Charlie Cooper, Tim Key and more. Plus! It's directed by This Country veteran Tom George, it's set in the 1950s and looks absolutely gorgeous. Ronan and Rockwell are both on fine form in these interviews, so listen up, and be sure to keep an ear out for clues - and lassos, amazingly.

If you've not seen the latest in the Predator franchise, we highly recommend watching Prey - on Disney+ in the UK, Hulu in the US - before you listen to this particular Radio 1's Screen Time spoiler special, where Ali gets to speak to the director of the film itself, one Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane, The Boys), dissecting the movie in spoilerific detail with the man who actually made those spoilerific decisions. Good news, Lord Of The Rings fans! The Rings Of Power is / are finally here, with Amazon Prime Video's megabudget adaptation of the events of the Second Age of Middle-earth now streaming - well, the first episodes, anyway. As a LOTR fan who has even travelled to New Zealand to 'climb Mount Doom' (aka 'walk the Tongariro Crossing'), Ali was ready and able and very much willing to speak to some of the cast of this new Hobbity adventure, including our new Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and our new Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and, as they say, many more. So, with every attempt made to avoid spoilers, here's a moderately silly conversation with close to a dozen Tolkienistas, recording just days ago in London - note Lindon, to be clear.

It's been a little while since we last met up for Ali Plumb's Film Club, but boy are we back with a bang this week as Ali teams up with fellow online film aficionado Dan Murrell (of Honest Trailers and Schmoedown fame) to talk about The Godfather. Game Of Thrones is back on Sky Atlantic / Now. Okay, okay, it's back in prequel form (just to be clear), and with it come such names as Matt Smith, Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Emma D'Arcy, Emily Carey and many more. Speaking to everyone they'd let him shove a microphone in front of, Ali tries to avoid spoilers - as ever - when talking about a show that begs to be spoiled in almost every way. Sure, it's set 200 years before the events of the original Game Of Thrones and we kinda know what will eventually happen in House Of The Dragon, but HOW? Well, you won't find out here. Is that something to boast about? Ah well, too late now.

Tatiana Maslany is the Emmy-winning actress who is perhaps best known for her work as numerous clones in the excellent sci-fi series Orphan Black - but now, it's safe to say - her portrayal of Disney+'s latest Marvel hero She-Hulk (aka Jennifer Walters) will propel her to even higher heights. Joining her on this She-Hulk Screen Time interview special are her director, Kat Coiro, and the writer-creator behind it all, Jessica Gao, one of whom happens to have written one of the best Ricky & Morty episodes ever. Which one, you wonder? Well... here's a hint: it's the one who's a writer.

The Sandman is a much-loved series of graphic novels written by Neil Gaiman (see also: Stardust, American Gods, Coraline and Good Omens with Sir Terry Pratchett) and it's finally - after two decades lurking in Development Hell - been turned into a TV show, now on Netflix. Tom Sturridge stars as the titular character, all cheekbones and black robes, who embodies the concept of storytelling and dreaming in a world that also features Death, Despair, Desire and many other anthropomorphic personifications known as 'The Endless'. It's a fascinating dark fantasy drama and it was Ali's great pleasure to talk to Morpheus himself (as he's also known) over Zoom just before the show's big BFI premiere that evening - hear their chat here, and do your best not to nod off...

Nope is, at long last, finally in UK cinemas after already being released in the US and elsewhere three or so weeks ago. On any other Friday, that would be the biggest news going but after the shocking revelation that the Discovery and Warners merger has resulted in a 90% complete film, Batgirl, being thrown in the bin, Ace and Ali had to get together to discuss that that first. So! It's a podcast of two parts: Batgirl first, then a brief Nope chat that leads into an interview with the incredibly talented writer-director that is Jordan Peele. As is often said, we spoil you, we know...

Thirteen Lives is the latest from Ron Howard - our legendary guest on this particular Screen Time episode - a movie that tells the tale of the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue, with Viggo Mortensen and Colin Farrell as British cave divers Richard Stanton and John Volanthen respectively. Look forward to listening to Howard remark upon Ali's much-loved Rush t-shirt, as well as underlining just how tricky it is to recreate and shoot complicated cave dives, especially when the actors themselves want to do the actual diving.

Bullet Train is in cinemas this weekend, an action comedy kinda-sorta violent cartoon that stars our guests for this particular interview special podcast - Brad Pitt, Brian Tyree Henry and Aaron Taylor Johnson - and is directed by David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw, John Wick).

Ali catches up with interviewer extraordinaire and deadpan delight Amelia Dimoldenberg - of Chicken Shop Dates fame (and much more) - as they talk shop, sharing stories of speaking to famous people and somehow getting away with it. A tonne of big news stories landed last weekend, fresh from San Diego Comic-Con, so here's Ali - never knowingly on time - with his thoughts just a week later. Since then we now know who's directing the new Avengers outing - Shang-Chi's Destin Daniel Cretton - and loads more headlines will have arrived BUT ANYWAY, not to worry, we've also got interviews with Dylan O'Brien and Zoey Deutch about their new film, Not Okay, a dark comedy that'll make you think differently about social media. No but really, it will.

Who doesn't love Emily Blunt? She's one of those utterly charming, truly gifted human beings who's been in a wide variety of big screen releases, including Sicario, Mary Poppins Returns, Jungle Cruise, The Devil Wears Prada, Edge Of Tomorrow, Looper, A Quiet Place and much much more. In this throwback episode of the podcast, we dig into the vaults just one more time to unearth a 2016 - can it really be from 2016? - Movies That Made Me conversation that first hit the airwaves around the release of The Girl On The Train. How time flies, eh?

Another one from the interview back catalogue this Sunday, and it's a gem: the forever charming Steve Carell talking about some of his biggest big screen hits over the years, from Anchorman to The 40 Year Old Virgin. If you'd like more Steve Carell in your life, don't forget that the new Minions movie is in cinemas now, but honestly, that's by the by - you want him chatting from way back in 2018, when the world was young, don't you? Of course you do.

Thor: Love And Thunder is in cinemas right now, the 29th feature-length entry in the Marvel Cinematic Unvierse, so Ace and Ali have got together to try to work out why the critical response has been so, well, mixed. The 29th big screen entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe swings into multiplexes this weekend with Thor Love And Thunder, aka Thor 4, aka Th4. Ali was lucky enough to speak to Chris Hemsworth a few months back, and now he's had a chance to chat with The Mighty Thor herself, Natalie Portman, as well as her costar Tessa Thompson and the madcap director behind it all, Taika Waititi.

Chris Hemsworth is always a good laugh, but things can get a little tricky when you haven't seen the film, the trailer, the poster... Pretty much anything to do with the film you're meant to be talking about. So please enjoy this "interviewing on hard mode" chat between Ali and Chris, ostensibly about Thor Love And Thunder, but... Well, you'll see.

That Ali Plumb guy is off on holiday so it's fine to delve into the archives and dust off a classic. The man chosen is the glorious human being that is Jeff Goldblum, star of The Fly, Jurassic Park and a couple of Independence Days to boot. Director Scott Derrickson - of The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Doctor Strange and The Day The Earth Stood Still fame - reunites with his Sinister star Ethan Hawke for a new supernatural '70s horror-thriller based on the short story The Black Phone by Joe Hill. Both Scott and Ethan are brilliant talkers - as Ali sometimes likes to say - so here are a couple of interviews that dig a little bit deeper than your average 'What mementos have you taken from from set?' fare, promise. Expect discussions of schoolyard fighting, chainlink fences and bottle rockets.

Baz Luhrmann, the man behind Strictly Ballroom, Australia, Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge! and The Great Gatsby returns with Elvis, his hip-shaking biopic of The King Of Rock 'N' Roll that sees relative newcomer Austin Butler transform into the man, the myth, the legend that was Elvis Aaron Presley. On this episode of Screen Time you'll hear the likes of Luhrmann and Butler talk about how they brought his Memphis mansion Graceland to life, as well as how they shot so many eye-catching, toe-tapping performances on camera. Joining Ali to do the film justice is friend of the show Clarisse Loughrey, someone who really knows her Luhrmanns.

Ali recently watched comedy-drama Big Boys on Channel 4 and found himself thinking "How can I get more people to watch Big Boys so I can talk to more people about Big Boys?" Yes, the name is a play on 'Big boys don't cry', so you're right to expect a show that tackles grief and depression, as well as coming out, finding yourself at uni, making friends and surviving university generally. If you've not seen it, see it, but maybe before you do, listen to a bit of this podcast special dedicated to it, just to whet your appetite.

Ali sat down with The Deep and A-Train to find out what it's like to be part of a show like this one and how it feels to walk around a comic con with or without their superhero suits...

After all these years, it feels like an absolute miracle to see Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen "teaming up" - so to speak - once again as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader, but that's just what's happening, and we're not sure Ali can fully wrap his head around it. In this first-of-its-kind double-header 'Becoming...' interview, the pair dig deep on the prequels and geek out massively. They also discover an unfortunate issue with Ali's t-shirt, enjoy a tonne of fan-made merchandise and quote lines they've not said in years.

After 36 years, the sequel to 1980s classic of classics Top Gun is finally here, and with it, Tom Cruise himself talking to Ali about what brought him back, why now, and... whether he's able to pilot a submarine. The Oscars! The "incident"! The TV BAFTA nominations! Bruce Willis! Jared Leto! Sonic 2! The Bad Guys! Morbius! Moon Knight! So much going on, so little time. Okay, well, more time than usual but still: a lot to talk about, so much so we edited down this episode from an original 16 hour file (only slightly kidding). So enjoy this bumper Friday edition of Radio 1's Screen Time and don't forget to tell your friends.

Moon Knight swoops down - white cape swishing oh so elegantly - on March 30th on that there Disney+, and despite the whole concept of the superhero / antihero Marvel show being more or less one massive SPOILER, Ali still manages to get something not half bad (though we say so ourselves) out of the wonderful Oscar, Ethan and May.

A short and sweet Friday podcast this week as Ali is a little poorly - don't worry however, as the stars of Michael Bay's latest explosion-filled actioner are here to talk spinning cameras and sunset shots. And hey! Oscars this weekend... Hopefully Ali will be back on form by then.

Prisoners (2013), Sicario (2015), Arrival (2016), Blade Runner 2049 (2017) and now Dune (2021) - director Denis Villeneuve has an incredible back catalogue... and then there's the likes Enemy, Incendies, Polytechnique and more. He is truly a supremely gifted filmmaker to say the very least. To celebrate the recent news that Dune Part 2 is starting prep to shoot sometime soon - for a 2023 release with a bit of luck - here's Denis's Movies That Made Me interview that you may have seen on BBC iPlayer last year, now in audio form for your podcast pleasure.

Daisy Edgar-Jones is the stupendously talented actress you'll most likely know best for playing Marianne in Normal People and now she's in a brand new movie, a black comedy horror thriller called Fresh, to be found on Disney+ in the UK right about now. In this special Friday edition of the podcast, she stops by to talk nonsense with an overexcited Ali, who's beside himself to be back in a radio studio hosting a guest like a grown-up. A very childish grown-up. You know what he's like.

The Batman is in cinemas and is a very big deal, three hours no less. Here is something much, much quicker: a supercut of Ali's short but sweet Zoom interviews with some of the cast while they were in London, including the likes of Andy Serkis, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell and the director himself, Matt Reeves. Oh, and Zoe Kravitz and some Robert Pattinson guy.

Two pretty big movies hit streamers this weekend, namely Pixar's Turning Red on Disney+ and Ryan Reynolds' (and Shawn Levy's) sci-fi adventure The Adam Project on Netflix. Both are reviewed by Ali and returning podcast guest Clarisse Loughrey as they also tackle some of the week's biggest movie and TV news stories, including the new Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer and all those Warner Bros. film release date changes.

Andrew Garfield returns to Radio 1's Screen Time just days after his first appearance, sitting down with Ali face to face for an in-person Movies That Made Me that promises to delight and enthrall. He's a charmer, he really is. The pair talk about everything from The Social Network to Tick, Tick... Boom and back again, not forgetting his appearances in the Spider-Man movies and more than a few other highlights along the way.

It seems like forever ago that Robert Battinson - sorry, Pattinson, these things happen - was announced as our new Caped Crusader. And now, years later, at long last, R-Batz is here. On this special 'Becoming...' interview, The Artist Formerly Known As Edward Cullen talked to Ali about how he got the gig in the first place, putting on the suit for the first time and what he got told off for on set. Repeatedly. You'll see...

Peaky Blinders is back on BBC One for its sixth and final season, and what a pleasure it was to speak to the star of the much-loved, critically acclaimed gangster drama, one Cillian Murphy. Ali chatted to Tommy Shelby himself back in December - just before he started the whole Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer process - touching on how he got the role in the first place, how to tackle the accent, the look, the walk, as well as what the whole decade-long experience means to him.

A Friday episode of three parts this week: an intro from Ali, flagging up what's in cinemas, what interviews we have to look forward to and certain comfort food films we might want to check out. Then there's a news section, featuring friends of the show Jake Hamilton and Ash Crossan chatting about what's what in the world of movies and TV, including recent Oscars decisions, that Doctor Strange 2 trailer and more. Many will know Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister from that there Game Of Thrones but now you can soon see him as Cyrano in, um, Cyrano, at long last in cinemas. In this ‘Story So Far’ interview we leap about his career, from The Station Agent to Avengers: Infinity War, and it is a delight, though we say so ourselves.

If you've not already heard of Mary Elizabeth Kelly, prepare to discover one of your new favourite people on the internet. An exceptional impressionist and a big-time Mean Girls fan, she dropped by Ali Plumb's Film Club to talk about - you guessed it - Mean Girls. Oh, and being an impressionist. You may have seen that coming, sure, but just wanted to be clear up front, you know.

After breaking box office records with Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland is back with another high-budget big screen adventure in the form of Uncharted, the long-awaited cinematic adaptation of the much-loved Naughty Dog / Playstation gaming series. Our Tom is a young Nathan Drake, the treasure-hunting hero of the franchise, while Mark Wahlberg is his moustachioed mentor Sully. Listen to Mister Holland esq talk to Ali about getting the role, what it means to him and which part of the costume kept smacking him in the face.

The 2022 Oscar nominations are here, and Ali is more than willing to rattle through some of the headlines for you, despite a nuisance headcold (sorry about the voice modulation, by the by). Then there's the host of the super smash hit YouTube interview show Hot Ones, that there Sean Evans, who stops by to answer Ali's seemingly infinite questions about his internet-breaking series, as well as touching on Christopher Nolan's beloved Batman outing The Dark Knight for another Ali Plumb's Film Club. There's a whole lotta podcast in the podcast and no mistake.

Andrew Garfield has been giving the world some pretty darn amazing performances of late, notably in his new movie, The Eyes Of Tammy Faye (where he plays televangelist Jim Bakker), and also musical Tick Tick... Boom on Netflix. And then there's, well, how shall we put this? He's also in another motion picture that you may well have seen but it's probably best we don't mention its name - at least not in the description - though it does come up within the conversation you're about to hear, so forewarned is (sort of) forearmed. Long story short though, Andrew Garfield is a hero and here's an interview with him, please enjoy.

Emma Sidi, star of Starstruck (soon to hit BBC3 on February 7th), stops by to talk about the show as well as Tick, Tick... Boom, Lin-Manuel Miranda's 'Andrew Garfield as Rent writer Jon Larson' musical that hit Netflix late last year. Plus, Ali tries (and fails) to wrap his head around the new Bafta nominations and just how they work these days, and then there's a review of Jackass Forever and an 'acknowledgement' of the existence of Moonfall.

A sequel to the toe-tapping, pop song-stuffed animated animal movie Sing that came out a few years ago is finally here, with Taron Egerton and company sipping their honey tea after belting out yet more catchier-than-catchier radio hits. Speaking to Ali about their favourite karaoke songs and much more are Scarlett Johansson, Matthew McConaughey, Tori Kelly, Nick Kroll and the writer-director behind it all, the wonderful Garth Jennings.

Some of Ali's favourite creative types in that there Hollywood have hopped on Zoom to talk about their latest Apple TV show, The Afterparty, a murder mystery comedy with some incredible names on board, including Tiffany Haddish, Dave Franco, Jamie Demetriou and more. But! Even more impressive than that there's Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (friends of the show) behind the camera and Ali's brother from another mother (he likes to think), one Ben Schwartz, doing singing and a-dancing in his own amazing musically-themed episode.

Sir Kenneth Branagh's heartwarming semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story Belfast is in cinemas this weekend, and so is this Belfast interview special, featuring stars Dame Judi Dench, Jamie Dornan and Caitríona Balfe - not forgetting our writer director producer Sir Kenneth - talking about their uplifting (and somehow also heartbreaking) film set in 1969 Belfast just as The Troubles began.

Some big movie and TV (and gaming, to be fair) news has dropped of late so we thought it high time to get Ali back on the microphone to explain what's what in the world of blockbusters et al. Joining him is Scream expert Louise Blain, who is happy to talk about what's been happening in Hollywood lately - but is even happier discussing in spoilerific detail how she feels about the new Scream movie.

You asked for it, you got it. Finally, at long long last, Ali and Ace reunite to geek out about Spider-Man: No Way Home in spoilerific detail. If you've not seen the latest Spider-adventure, do not press play on this podcast. Seriously, we're not kidding here: we get into spoiler territory and QUICK. Ali is enjoying a well-earned break, so here’s another chance to hear a classic Screen Time interview. James Cameron, the visionary director behind Titanic and Avatar, talks Ali Plumb through his remarkable career, from The Terminator and Aliens to new movie Alita: Battle Angel.

The King's Man has arrived, the kinda-sorta prequel / origin tale to the previous to Kingsman movies of 2014 and 2017. This time we've gone back to the days of World War One, with new characters along for the ride in the form of Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Tom Hollander, Harris Dickinson and Djimon Hounsou - and what do you know, they're all on this here interview special, as well as director Matthew Vaughn, talking about cane swords, slow-motion reloading and gobbling down several slices of bakewell tart. This will make sense in context. Hopefully.

Keanu Reeves is Neo, 'The One', the hero of The Matrix. Sure, he's also John Wick, Johnny Mnemonic, John Constantine and a whole host of other characters with the first name "John" - but to many he is and forever shall be Neo. With that in mind, it was a great honour for our Ali to speak to the great man about the legacy of the films, his favourite moments and, well, The Lego Movie. You'll see.

The Witcher is back on Netflix for a second series - and to celebrate, Ali was lucky enough to talk to the likes of Anya Chalotra, Joey Batey, Freya Allan and newcomer Kim Bodnia about the success of the first series (and the books and the games, lest we forget). Oh, and some Henry Cavill fella goes into beautifully nerdy detail about the role of Geralt Of Rivia, The Witcher himself, touching on everything from the voice to the sword skills to the wig to the... almost everything, really!

One of Ali's favourite Christmas movies of recent years - and maybe, just maybe, *ever* - is Klaus, the animated triumph from SPA Studios available to watch all-year round on that there Netflix. After recommending the movie to all and sundry, Ali finally got in touch with the film's writer-director Sergio Pablos to see if he'd be willing to talk about how he made the film, the casting, the animation, the fan reaction each and every year and much much more. And you know what? He said yes, and here is the wonderful result. Merry Christmas one and all, and remember: a true selfless act always sparks another.

It's very nearly the end of 2021, so it's time for a good ol' fashioned Radio 1's Screen Time review-a-palooza, where Ali is joined by friend of the podcast Clarisse Loughrey to talk through some of the biggest releases coming out this month and early 2022, including a tiny independent motion picture called Spider-Man: No Way Home. An unusual Friday edition of Radio 1's Screen Time as friend of the show (and stand up comedian extraordinaire) Alasdair Beckett-King stops by to talk to Ali at length about what makes a good Christmas movie - and what makes a good Christmas special of a sitcom. Bold statements are made, names are misremembered and stories are conflated - just the way you like it.

Netflix's The Power of the Dog is the latest from the critically-acclaimed filmmaker Jane Campion, and as such it's really quite a big deal indeed. Helping matters is its excellent cast, including the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jesse Plemons, the first three of which you'll hear from today on this interview special podcast episode. They talk about Campion's legacy, shooting in New Zealand and how the pandemic made things just a tiny bit trickier, to say the least.

Ali Plumb's Film Club returns with an earlier-than-expected trip to the festive film cupboard as friend of the show Ash Crossan joins Ali to talk about National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Succession series 3 - or should we say 'season 3', as it's a US show, even if it's written by a mainly British writing staff? Anyway... - is finally here in the UK on Sky / Now and Ali is very excited about that indeed. Here he is, geeking out about one of his favourite TV shows on air today with three of its stars: Sarak Snook, Brian Cox and Matthew Macfadyen. Warning - and this is a BIG WARNING - these conversations contain plenty of strong language, just like the show itself. Also, spoilers for series / seasons 1 and 2. Now you know!

Halloween Kills is the twelfth installment in the Halloween franchise. That's right, twelfth. It's only the sixth - we think - to include the legend that is Jamie Lee Curtis, and it's also the follow-up to 2018's Halloween, the box office winner that reset the timeline and ignored the previous sequels. On this particular interview special, you'll hear from the queen of scream queens as she explains just how unglamorous it is to shoot a low-budget horror and what she has/had planned for the Halloween Kills red carpet...

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is finally in UK cinemas - two weeks after it first dropped over in the US - so now feels like the perfect time to unveil our 'Becoming... Venom' interview with Tom Hardy. Ali and Tom dig deep on what makes the character(s) tick, touching on the voice, the look, the attitude, the everything. With No Time To Die pretty much the only big movie in town - sorry The Addams Family 2, you know it's true - Ali is joined by the always wonderful Lucy Ford to talk about some of the biggest and best TV shows we're all watching right now. Okay, fine: Squid Game. A lot of this podcast (the second half, more or less) is about Squid Game. Karen Gillan needs no introduction, and yet... here we are, just in case. The performing artist formerly known as Amy Pond has appeared in the likes of the MCU (as Nebula), Jumanji (as Ruby Roundhouse) and that little tiny weeny sci-fi show Doctor Who. She's back in our lives on September 17th when her new fight-filled action-thriller (called Gunpowder Milkshake by the way) hits NOW / Sky Cinema in the UK. You'll hear from him here in this 'Becoming... Shang-Chi' interview special, made even more so by the addition of his director, Destin Daniel Cretton, as well as his co-star, Fala Chen.

You guys asked for it, you guys deserve it. Yes, after many, many polite requests for a return to reviews on this here podcast, Ali is back with a monster-sized review-a-palooza of all the biggest movies out this year so far. Shang-Chi is in cinemas this weekend as well, so there's a review of that as well at the end, but ultimately this is Ali and friend of the show Clarisse Loughrey digging through the summer's most sizeable releases and telling you fine folk what we thought about them.

It's the new Three Amigos! Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin, that is, who join forces for a new Disney+ / Star murder-mystery true-crime podcast show - you know the type - called Only Murders In The Building. They also, very generously, agreed to talk to Ali about making the show (amongst other things) in this anarchic and all-too-brief chat in which you may well be able to hear Ali actively losing his mind with happiness.

No Ali Plumb's Film Club this week - yep, we went there - as Ace stops by to get extra nerdy in this super geeky newsy edition of Radio 1's Screen Time that's almost entirely about the new record-breaking trailer for Spider-Man No Way Home. 355.5 million views in just 24 hours. Mind-boggling really. Ali's film club will return next week, but for now, listen to this - but maybe only after you've seen said trailer, eh?

Henry Golding - star of A Simple Favor, Crazy Rich Asians and Last Christmas - is now an action hero thanks to his starring role in Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins. Here he talks to Ali about his sword skills, ninja skills, nunchuck skills and all sorts of other skills - as well as how to best backflip off a moving truck and fight someone in very wet weather - and comes across, as you'd expect, like an absolute dreamboat.

Ali is kinda-sorta still on holiday this week, but that doesn't mean you're going without a new 'Ali Plumb's Film Club', now does it? Stepping up is Jon Croker - screenwriter, raconteur and bon vivant - who you may remember from the Film Club on Raiders Of The Lost Ark, talking all sorts of nonsense about Martin Scorsese's gangster classic Goodfellas.

Jodie Comer stars alongside Ryan Reynolds in the new sci-fi action adventure Free Guy, and as she was in town talking about it, Ali jumped at the opportunity to actually speak to her, actually face to face. Actually. Look forward to some thoroughly silly nonsense about her favourite go-to dance moves and advert jungles she'll never forget - as well as, you know, her career. We promise that actually comes up as well.

Shaun Of The Dead! In Ali Plumb's Film Club! Finally! Desert Island Discworld host Al Kennedy stops by to point out that Ali's got red on him in this close-to-one-hour love letter to Edgar Wright's cult classic.

Stillwater is the latest from director Tom McCarthy, the man behind the likes of The Station Agent, Win Win and the Oscar Best Picture winner Spotlight. It stars Matt Damon - who you'll hear from, don't you worry - as well as Camille Cottin (of Call My Agent fame) and Abigail Breslin (who you know and love from Zombieland and Little Miss Sunshine). On this particular interview special you'll hear from all of them, talking about shooting in the south of France and being upstaged by a total newcomer. Hey, it happens.

Night Shyamalan is the writer-director behind the likes of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Glass, Signs, The Village, Split, The Visit and now the efficiently-named "Old", a horror-thriller that almost defies description. A group of holidaymakers are taken to a mysterious private beach where they soon start to notice that they're aging at an alarming rate: children become teenagers, then young adults, over the matter of hours. Horrifying, right? You bet. Listen here to Ali talking to the man himself about where the idea came from and the practicalities of shooting on a beach in the Dominican Republic for days on end...

Seen Black Widow? Well, boy is this the podcast recorded expressly with you in mind. Ali teams up with friend of the podcast Clarisse Loughrey to talk about the 24th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in spoilerific detail. Seriously, the spoiler siren has been well and truly sounded. Vanessa Kirby is the star of Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw, The Crown, the Oscar-nominated Pieces Of A Woman and now The World To Come (out July 23rd), a period drama / romance set in 19th century rural New York state where two women (Kirby and Katherine Waterston) fall for each other in a world full of hardships and obligations. In this interview, Kirby talks about shooting in Transylvania, having Jason Statham's number on her phone and the fine art of acting when you've seriously hurt your ankle. As the saying goes: you suffer for your art, and in this case, it's really really true.

At long last, the follow-up to the 2013 Dreamworks animation The Croods is finally in UK cinemas. Fans of the original hoped for a sequel much sooner, but with a pandemic and studio changes getting in the way, it's been a quite a while indeed. Speaking to its stars - Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone and Kelly Marie Tran - back in November 2020, Ali asks about the fine art of voice acting, pretending to be punched over and over (and over), working with the legend that is Nic Cage and their comfort food movies and TV shows. It turns out The Artist Also Known As Deadpool is also a Great British Bake Off fan. Now you know!

Swooping into Ali Plumb's Film Club, smashing a skylight as he does so, is 1989's Batman: Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Kim Basinger, Tim Burton and a lot of facial prosthetics, just the way you like it. Comedian and member of double act 'The Pin', one Ben Ashenden, is the man with the Bat-plan this week, stopping by to lovingly take the mick out of the movie that gave us 'Batmania'. On this particular Sunday interview special Bob talks about how he was inspired to make the movie - in cinemas now, by the by - after enduring his own home invasion, plus the realisation of just how much of a reach he had internationally with the ongoing soaraway success of Better Call Saul.

The Father is the heartbreaking drama about an aging man (Sir Anthony Hopkins) who must deal with his progressing dementia as he is aided (and seemingly hindered, from his increasingly unreliable perspective) by his daughter Anne, played by the ever-wonderful Olivia Colman. Our Ali resists flat-out asking Andy Samberg to be his 'new best friend' during this Story So Far interview in honour of his new time-loopy romantic comedy-drama Palm Springs, now - at long last! - available on Amazon Prime Video in the UK, nearly a year after those lucky Americans got to see it first in 2020. Expect nerdy SNL chat, nerdy Hot Rod chat, nerdy Popstar chat, nerdy Palm Springs chat and just a whole lot of general nerdy chat to be honest.

So there's this monster, right, called Godzilla. And then there's this other monster, right, called Kong. One's an atomic lizard-type-thing, the other's a giant ape. And in this movie, yeah, well, they fight. Like really fight. That's probably all you need to know before you watch it, but just in case here's some of the cast (Alexander Skarsgård, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Julian Dennison) and the director (Adam Wingard) to explain more in very entertaining detail.

It's a Friday edition of Radio 1's Screen Time, but not as we know it: yes, it's a super secret sushy spoiler special in honour of Disney+'s WandaVision, as requested by so many, many, many of you fine folk. Eddie Izzard stars in World War II spy-thriller-drama Six Minutes To Midnight, as well as co-writing it (no big deal). Seriously, it's a wonder he didn't explode with excitement.

Tom And Jerry return in - would you believe it - Tom And Jerry, bringing along with them the likes of Chloe Grace Moretz, Michael Pena and Ken Jeong. All three speak to Ali for this interview special, as well as director Tim Story, though we were unable to get either Tom or Jerry to talk to us for this podcast, though let it be known that we tried.

One Nicholas Grimshaw esquire joins Radio 1's Screen Time this week to talk about his favourite film ever, Bridesmaids - a film he loves so much he's even got a tattoo of it. Yep. No kidding. Plus, Henry Lloyd-Hughes drops by to talk about The Irregulars, the new Netflix Sherlocky show where our Henry plays - you guessed it - Holmes himself.

If you're an animation fan in any way, you'll be delighted to discover that the producer of Soul, Dana Murray, and the director of Soul, Pete Docter, are back for a return visit to Radio 1's Screen Time. Look forward to a semi-spoilery conversation about Graham Norton's voice acting superpowers, the big third act plot move and Pixar's ever-expanding back catalogue of Easter Eggs.

If you're not already in the know, he plays Tim Jenkins, the real-life South African political prisoner who managed to break out of jail in 1979 using - wait for it - wooden keys. Yep. So to hear The Artist Formerly Known As The Boy Who Lived talking about South African accents, acting alongside the man you yourself are playing, as well as what he's kept as movie mementos over the years, press play and regret nothing.

Ali chooses his favourite interviews from the archives for Radio 1’s Movie week and today’s is legendary director Quentin Tarantino. Here he chats to Ali about his iconic films, from Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill to new movie Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

Radio 1's Movie Week continues and as Ali continues his mega movie challenge set by Greg James he's decided to pick out his favourite interviews from the past. Today's is the one and only Tom Cruise.Tom tells Ali Plumb the stories behind some of his biggest movies - including Top Gun, Jerry Maguire, Tropic Thunder & American Made. A five-part Channel 4 miniseries set between 1981 and 1991, it's a heartbreaking semi-autobiographical story that deserves every award going, and here Ali does his best not to cry halfway through the actual interview.

This week's 'Ali Plumb's Film Club' choice is Self-proclaimed superfan Dan Schreiber - of QI, No Such Thing As A Fish and Museum of Curiosity fame - returns to Radio 1's Screen Time to sling karate facts at Ali, as well as professing his enduring love for Elizabeth Shue. He's only human, after all.

You know Dave Franco as an actor from appearing in the likes of The Disaster Artist, the Now You See Me movies and much, much more but now he's writing and directing his own films, kicking things off with The Rental, now available in the UK on Amazon Prime Video, a horror thriller about two couples who go on holiday to a rented home and get that uncomfortable feeling they are being watched. Friend of the podcast and MTV movie veteran Josh Horowitz returns for a '90s action movie special of 'Ali Plumb's Film Club' centring around Friday night classic Air Force One. Expect plenty of chit chat about improvised weaponry, film title suffixes (more fun than it sounds) and the best movie presidents. Oh, and 'Die Hard clones', which are 100% a thing. And all this is on top of the news section, which features Harry Potter, John Boyega in a Formula 1 car and King Kong fighting Godzilla, just the way you like it.

Rose Matafeo is one of those excellently excellent actor-comedian-writer-performers that is going to be HUGE so, so soon - in part no doubt to her starring role in the new New Zealand pregnancy rom-com (not a genre but hey) called Baby Done, where her dry humour and amazing screen presence just beam off your TV. Here she talks to Ali about New Zealand comedy vs. UK comedy, the strangest scenes to shoot and all of her amazing lockdown crafting creations. You're going to love this one, promise.

A twofer for Ali Plumb's Film Club this week: Hook and Jumanji, with Matt Edmondson joining Ali for a '90s Robin Williams special. WandaVision, the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first foray into the world of movie-stars-in-their-own-Disney+-TV-show, stars Paul Bettany as Vision and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, and it's finally - finally! - here. In this Sunday interview special of Screen Time we have Paul and his director, Matt Shakman, talking about the origins of the show as well as the character of Vision himself in all his purple, cowled, flying, phasing, superintelligent glory.

Confession time: Ali Plumb's Film Club is, for one week only, a TV club. About a TV show that's based on a film series, sure - that's The Mandalorian, in case you were wondering - but it's worth admitting the discrepancy early doors. We've also got the news section, discussing tonnes of MCU news, as well as release date changes and what is going on (ish) over in New Zealand for that Lord Of The Rings show.

Dickinson, the historical comedy-drama based around the life and times of the beloved 19th century American poet, returns for a second season on AppleTV+, and with it - of course - Hailee Steinfeld, its star. In this interview you'll hear about some of the more surreal moments from the show - dancing with bees and so on - as Ali and Hailee discuss a comedy-drama that is truly like no other. Oh, and they ever find time to explain exactly who Emily Dickinson is, just in case you missed that lesson in English class.

Radio 1's Screen Time is back back back for 2021 and you'll be pleased to hear that Ali Plumb's Film Club is going nowhere, no sir or madam. This week friend of the podcast Arielle Free returns to talk about Pixar's latest, Soul, and as it's about, well, the meaning of existence, there's SO MUCH TO SAY - so this film club could well be a record-breaking length. Then there's a very brief news section, as well as a whole bunch of different movie and TV recommendations on top of the answer to the question you've only now started wondering: what film franchise would take the longest to watch, if you watched all the movies back-to-back? Yep. The research was done, and it was exhausting.

Jenna Coleman is best known for her work on Emmerdale, Doctor Who and Victoria but she's soon to be seen in something distinctly different: BBC One's serial killer true-crime drama The Serpent, where she plays the seemingly complicit other half to the infamous 'Bikini Killer' Charles Sobhraj (played by A Prophet's Tahar Rahim) in the 1970s. In this audio version of her Story So Far interview, she talks about shooting in Thailand, mastering the Quebecois accent and what mementos she managed to sneak home from inside the TARDIS...

After two seasons on YouTube, Karate Kid TV follow-up Cobra Kai was snapped up by Netflix and now, at long last, a third instalment is here. It tells the continuing stories of one-time teenage rivals Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and well as a host of their young students, including Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña), Samantha LaRusso (Mary Mouser) and Hawk himself, played by Jacob Bertrand. They all spoke to Ali through the magic of the internet to talk about the show's sudden huge success and what it's like to have strangers in the street wanting to show off their karate moves.

Ali has his feet up watching a Christmas Movie (who woulda guessed!) So no news or reviews this week. However look out for some great interview special podcasts coming up in the next week, including the cast of Cobra Kai and the brilliant Jenna Coleman talking about her role in the upcoming BBC drama The Serpent.

This year, we've had two Pixar movies. One was Onward, which came out in cinemas back in March and the second is Soul, which is forgoing cinemas and instead opting for a Disney+ release on Christmas day. Talking us through how they made this incredible music-cum-meaning-of-life movie about a middle school band teacher (Jamie Foxx), his unfortunate accident and trip to "the great before" (where he meets lsot soul Tina Fey) are producer Dana Murray, director Pete Docter (Up, Inside Out) and the fantastic Mr. Foxx himself.

So here it is, merry Christmas - nearly, anyway - and everybody's watching tonnes of festive films. One on everyone's list is Love Actually, 2003's star-studded Christmassy chocolate box movie from Richard Curtis. In this very special episode, the man himself, the writer-director behind it all, drops by to talk about the movie and a new Comic Relief quiz they've put together. Plus Lucy Ford's back for bonus Love Actually fun, and there's the news section as well, which while not quite as whopping as last week's still has plenty of treats in store.

Wonder Woman 1984 finally hits cinemas here in the UK on the 16th of December, significantly earlier than in the US, where it'll land over Christmas. Here in this interview special all about the DC Comics sequel, you'll hear from its lead, Gal Gadot, about her brand new golden set of winged armour, shooting some extraordinary action set-pieces (in London, some of the time) and - believe it or not - what her favourite British food is. Plus, there's the amazing Pedro Pascal and director Patty Jenkins also on board, so there's loads to enjoy on this Sunday interview special, promise.

Ali tries to wrestle with ALL THE HUGE MOVIE AND TV NEWS that's landed lately, touching on the ongoing HBO Max situation, Better Call Saul's action thriller (sort of), the return of Doc Ock (and many more) in the upcoming Spider-Man Far From Home sequel - oh, and all of the incredible, nigh-on unbelievable headlines coming out of the Disney Investors event on Thursday night. So many big stories. So little time. Oh, and there's also the Elf 'Ali Plumb's Film Club' chat in the second half of the podcast, featuring the wonderful Lucy Ford and a tonne of conversation about Will Ferrell in yellow tights. In a good way.

Rachel Brosnahan has appeared in the likes of House Of Cards, Manhattan, Gossip Girl and The Good Wife - not forgetting her career-changing role as Midge in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - and now she stars in her own Amazon movie I'm Your Woman (out on December 11) about a mother on the run with her child after her husband betrays his fellow mobsters. Here she talks to Ali about all of the above, all whilst Ali's other half - called Ally, by the by - completes a jigsaw in the other side of the room. 2020 has been a strange year, to say the least!

Klaus! What do you mean, you haven't seen it? You better watch it before you listen to this week's 'Ali Plumb's Film Club' as it's our Christmassy choice this time around. Gillian Anderson plays Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the latest season of The Crown on Netflix and here she talks to Ali about working alongside Helena Bonham Carter and Olivia Colman in the higher-than-high-end big budget drama, plus a tiny, tiny bit on her X-Files memories and what it's like to be recognised for her work in Sex Education...

His Dark Materials returns for a second series on BBC One just when we needed it - not 'season', despite Ali's slip of the tongue in the intro, this is a British show, come along now - and we've got Lyra (Dafne Keen) and Will (Amir Wilson) themselves on the line to talk about how the show has changed their lives, acting alongside a daemon, seeing your poster above a highway and much much more. This one's a lot of fun, promise!

In this extra-long edition of Ali Plumb's Film Club, the utterly wonderful Arielle Free stops by to talk about Groundhog Day, everyone's favourite time-loop comedy about weather prediction starring Bill Murray. Come on, let's all admit it. With SO MUCH to discuss in this secretly deep, surprisingly emotional, worryingly relevant movie, it really is a super-sized chat. In a good way!

So! Pixie (currently in UK cinemas) is a Tarantino-ish, In Bruges-y comedy-thriller-heist-road-trip-adventure set in rural Ireland, and it stars Olivia Cooke and Ben Hardy - and hey, what do you know? They spoke to Ali for this particular Sunday interview special, and you're about to press play on it. Ah, go on, go on, go on. They're good fun and you'll have a great time. Lovely stuff.

After the headlines, we have BBC Radio 1's very own Matt Edmondson for 'Ali Plumb's Film Club' where - shock twist! - we talk about Jim Carrey classic The Mask and not (as previously advertised) Being John Malkovich. Ali couldn't handle the existential angst, it turns out. Now we know.

Daphne du Maurier's classic novel Rebecca has been adapted once again by Ben Wheatley, and in honour of its release on Netflix (and select cinemas) on October 21st, Ali spoke to its charming stars, Lily James and Armie Hammer, about tackling a story that previously won the Best Picture Oscar for one - checks notes - "Alfred Hitchcock". Never heard of him either.
