Today I’m discussing home births with Samantha Gadsden who is a doula based in Wales but works all over the UK virtually. We covered so much more than just home births though! We discussed:
The safety of home births, transfer to hospital rates for first time mothers, and reasons for transfer
The risks around births in general
Alternative options for pain relief during birth
What a doula is and how they support women throughout the childbearing year
The importance of continuity of care, which is often sadly missing in the UK during pregnancy and childbirth
This is quite a personal topic for me because I gave birth to my son at home which, as a first time mum, is fairly unusual. It turned out to be an amazing experience - exactly what I could have hoped for in giving birth.
Sam has a huge wealth of knowledge and experience so this episode is full of really interesting information, especially if you’re considering a home birth or hiring a doula. We actually talked about a lot more than what ended up in this episode!
