Welcome to RSA episode #1415! I don't really keep track of stuff like that, every few years I'll check the spreadsheet and think "I've been doing this a while haven't I?" But it isn't inertia, I pretty much start every Tuesday on a new show and spend a few days listening to music. Its really not exactly what I'd call a hardship. Though I did realize that after last weeks extra long show, I have to start compiling the annual best of. I've gotten a good start on it, and am brainstorming ideas for the extra long theme show I always try to do during the membership drive. But we'll burn those bridges when we come to them. So are you ready for a deep dive into the "oughties"? I think thats what the kids are calling the 2000-2011 time period these days. I'm not sure. Get off my lawn. But its been pointed out that I should do a special theme show where I focus on the first decade or so of RSA. While we started in 1998, I don't think the show reached its standard form until 2001. I think thats when we went for a straight "new material" focus as opposed to "whatever the hell I feel like" previous to that. So I spent a week or so getting a nice big list from the first 10 best of shows, and condensed them down to this theme show. I do try to get a superficial "Where are they now?" and give my thoughts, Maybe even an anecdote. But history is best left to historians. I just like to play music loud. So strap in for a very nearly 3 hour show, and lets see if we rediscover something together. We're now in the hom stretch for 2024. I'm getting very close to completing the last theme show for the year, a 3 hour extravaganza I'm calling "Project 2011". We're going to dive into the shows played ~20 years ago and see how much has changed, how many acts are still around, and whatever happened to... This isn't even mentioning that some time in the next 4 weeks I have to get the annual best of show compiled. But I do enjoy getting out extra long shows at this time of year so everyone can have someething new to play on their new devices on Christmas morning! This weeks show is dated for Monday, which is Remembrance Day in Commonwealth countries, and Veterans day in the USA. This year I think more and more about my Grandparents as veterans, but what strikes me the most is having visited both Berlin and London in my lifetime, each time I visited I'd look up and picture the sky and imagine it black with bombers, fire and smoke. Its unfathomable now. Lets just hope that it always stays this way. But to show how far we've come lets give multiculturalism a spin by listening to great music from around the world! We've finally caught up with the rest of the world. Time change was last night in North America, the USA changed the date a few years ago, and when the US has a cold, we sneeze. I do want to say good luck to my American friends this week. The whole world is watching. Nervously. Hell, we're going to have our own turn at trying to keep the far-right out of a majority government here shortly enough.
