In this episode, I speak with Dr. Christopher Ives, author of Zen on the Trail and Meditations on the Trail. In our conversation, we discuss the spiritual aspects of hiking, including hiking as mindfulness, hiking as pilgrimage, and the ritual nature of hiking. We talk about the possibility of nature as a teacher and what we might learn from nature. We also discuss how hiking can help deconstruct dualistic thinking and provide a sense of transcendence by embedding us back into nature.
