This week we dive into one of Baby Ashley's favorite films, The Secret Garden.  We also discuss what movies we loved to watch on repeat and whether our parents were strict about watching R rated films.  We discover that Ryan might have a phobia of seeing live plants grow and question what is really wrong with Colin Craven.  As always we award our best and worst and decide if this classic film holds up to our adult standards.  

This week we celebrate our little baby podcast turning one years old! We decided to answer some questions that were sent by our lovely listeners and then we decided to add alcohol and some good old competition to the mix.  We go on tangents about being latchkey kids. This week we rewatch our recent poll winner, Problem Child.  The 1990 "classic" about a child monster that gets adopted by a clueless couple. If you love when we talk about anything but the movie; this episode is for you. It sparks a lot of tangents.  We discuss everything from our earliest music memories to why catholics (from our parents generation) only name their kids five different names.  Ryan talks about his rat tail envy and Ashley tells a story about the creepy clown from her childhood closet.  As always we give out our prestigious awards and decide if this "family" film (we question this) holds up to our adult standards.  

NO PANTS! This week we rewatch the 2005 "classic" Fantastic Four.  This pre MCU Marvel film stars Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Ioan Gruffudd, and Michael Chiklis.  Ashley is confused on why she thought this movie came out when she was in high school and Ryan struggles with pronouncing Ioan Gruffudd. (Okay we both did.)  We wonder who thought it was a good idea to make Jessica Alba wear blue contacts the whole movie and question how Johnny made into NASA.  As always we discuss our best and worst and decide if this film holds up to our adult standards. This week we rewatched the 1991 cult "classic" Drop Dead Fred.  A movie that Ashley may have watched way too much as a child.  We discuss how our own imaginary friends or rather, how we can't remember their names.  We point out that smoking and jogging was a thing people did at the same time in the 90's. We also disagree about whether Drop Dead Fred was real, or if Lizzie (Phoebe Cates) caused all the destruction by herself.  As always, we award or best and worst and decide if this film is worth the rewatch or if we have once again ruined our childhood.  

This week we let you decide what movie to rewatch.  After tallying up the votes from our Facebook and Instagram pages, we had our winner! The 1997 "classic"  Con Air starring Nicolas Cage.  Of course we couldn't watch a Nic Cage film without talking about the origins of our coveted award named after the man himself. We also discuss the logistics of the ending of the movie. Its the last week of our RomCom-tastic Valentine's Day Celebration! This week we rewatch What Happens in Vegas starring Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher.  A tale about two people that stay married just to get their hands on a shared Vegas jackpot.  We discuss ALL of the Vegas themed plot holes and talk about our own recent trip to Sin City.  Ashley gets duped by the internet as it lies about where you can stream this movie.  For the record, you CAN'T stream this movie on the WWE app, thanks justwatch.com! Continuing our RomCom-tastic Valentine's Day Celebration, we rewatch the 1998 "classic" You've Got Mail starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.  We discuss this classic duo, but somehow forget to mention that they were also in Joe Versus the Volcano. We reminisce  about the good old days of AOL chatrooms and our amazing screen names. We question why Kathleen (Meg Ryan) had so many employees in her struggling book store.  As always we award our Thomas J. Hanks Award for Exceptional Acting. Its the 2nd week of our RomCom-tastic Valentine's Day Celebration...yes Ryan named this one as well. This week we rewatch 2005's Fever Pitch starring Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon. Ashley recalls the horrific tale of seeing this movie in theaters.  We discuss how its still weird that the wardrobe from this movie could look dated (why so many layers Jimmy?) because this movie is not that old, oh wait, it's 15 YEARS OLD?  We make a lot of comparisons to last week's movie The Wedding Planner and question how Lindsey (Barrymore) had never heard of the Curse of the Bambino. As always, we hand out our coveted awards to the best and worst and decide if this romcom holds up.  

We are back after surviving the plague with a brand new episode. This week we rewatch the romantic comedy classic, The Wedding Planner starring Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey.  One of Ashley's picks for our Valentine's Day celebration because to a 14 year old Ashley, Jennifer Lopez was everything.  We discuss how this movie breaks a couple of the romcom rules and whether we believe Dr. Steve when he said that he "just liked going to movies."  We disagree during the award segment (not a lot, but Ryan did demand that Ashley change her award at one point.) This week was supposed to be a film that we loved in our youth, Homeward Bound. We were once again tricked by Disney Plus and this childhood classic is not available until May. So we decided to start our celebration of Valentine's Day early with the comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall.  We discuss all the cameos of funny people we forgot were in the movie.  We talk about some of the late 2000 references including a once favorite reality show.  As always we award our best and worst and decide if this film holds up to our adult standards. 

To celebrate Christmas we rewatch the original Die Hard in all its glory.  The action cult classic that is up for endless debate of whether it is an actual Christmas movie.  We name all our favorite cameos from the film and do our best (but horrible) Snape as Hans Gruber impressions. It's a week before Christmas, so we thought we would do a football movie?  We both decided that we rewatch too many Christmas "classics" every year to fairly judge them for this podcast. So this week we decided to watch a one of the best 90's teen sports films (because honestly there really isn't a lot of choices.)  Ryan discusses how the Coach's behavior in this film is horrible, but slightly accurate to real coach's before in the past.  We discuss the toxic relationship between the fathers and sons depicted in this film and we cringe with everything that comes with the character of Tweeter.  As always we decide if this film holds up to our adult standards.  

This week we rewatch another childhood "classic" that is actually available on Disney Plus (unlike last week).  The 1989 film that apparently was a huge success for Disney. We reminisce about all the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids attractions at DisneyWorld that no longer exist.  We discuss how the movies use of sets instead of all green screen was definitely a good call. We also chat about our favorite Christmas movie traditions. Also we announce our choice of movie to celebrate Ruining Our Childhood's first Christmas episode!  As always we award the best and the worst and decide if Honey, I Shrunk the Kids holds up to our adult standards.  

In celebration of Disney Plus launching, we decided to watch the 1995 classic, The Big Green. A movie that we thought was available on the new app. To our disappointment, The Big Green is one of the many titles that will not be available on Disney Plus until sometime next year.  So we had to rent it, because we are stubborn and didn't want to change the movie.  In this episode we discuss how depressing this movie is at times and why kids loved Pizza Hut so much.  We also give our two cents on even more celebrities trying to blame superhero movies for the current state of the movie industry.  As always we award or worst and best for this 90's film and decide if it holds up to our adult standards!

This week we hit the action genre again with none other than a James Bond film.  The 1999 "classic" The World Is Not Enough starring Pierce Brosnan.  We discuss who we think is the best Bond and speculate on the future of the franchise. We get excited about some of the "Well Hello There" cameos in this film and not just because a Ruining Our Childhood favorite makes another appearance. To celebrate Ryan's birthday, we rewatch one of his all time childhood faves, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. This 1994 "classic" starring Jim Carrey and Courtney Cox.  Ryan talks about his VHS copy of the movie and we get on a tangent about other movies we watched this past week. We question the logistics of Ray Finkle's career as a police officer and how Ace never got in trouble for hitting two police officers with his car.  As always, we award our favorites and not so favorites and decide if this comedy holds up to our adult standards. 

On this very special episode of Ruining Our Childhood,  Ashley's brother and sister in law join in on our rewatch of 2002's Orange County.  Listen as we struggle to record with only two mics and four people! (Have fun adjusting your volume guys!)  In this episode we reminisce about the concept of video stores and all the California bands that are jammed into this film's soundtrack. We list some amazing cameos in our "Well Hello There" category and Rupert chimes in because there is never enough background noise in this podcast!  As always we award our favorites and not so favorites and decide if this early 2000's "classic" holds up to our adult standards. 

It's the last week in our Halloween SPOOKtacular and Ryan picked out 1991's The Addams Family.  We agree that as children we got this particular family confused with another classic sitcom, The Munsters. Ashley talks about how much it blew her child mind that Uncle Fester was also the iconic Doc Brown. We get off topic by discussing why the Hollywood Elite are all about hating on Marvel movies and Rupert and Quinn stop by to make sure we are not messing up the episode. (You can hear them occasionally walking around in the background.) As always we give our coveted awards to the best and worst in this move and decide if this children's classic holds up to our adult standards.  

As we get closer to All Hallow's Eve, we continue our SPOOKtacular (ugh)  with the 90's remake of the zombie classic Night of the Living Dead.  We discuss how this version started a young Ashley's obsession with zombie flicks. We joke about how this movie might have just been an excuse for some home renovation and decide that Ben must have found Uncle Rege's cocaine stash somewhere in that farmhouse.  As a special treat we name our favorite zombies of the film and best zombie kill of the movie. Listen as Ryan struggles to say Judy Rose as we decide if this 90's "classic" holds up to our adult standards. 

We are back with another episode for what Ryan now calls our "Halloween Spooktacular."   This week we take on one of Ashley's childhood traumas, The People Under the Stairs.  We reminisce about watching movies like this one way too young and question some of the movies more memorable scenes. We discuss the amazing Roach who is just trying to stay optimistic in his bleak situation and talk about Fool's next door neighbors. Which happen to be just a pack of wild dogs sharing an apartment in the inner city always fighting over an animal carcass. Sounds like a new CBS sitcom if you ask us. As always we award our best and worst and decide if this super creepy film holds up to our adult standards. 

We continue our celebration of Halloween with 1997's Scream 2. If you haven't listened to our rewatch of the original Scream, go have a listen...we will wait.  In this episode we reminisce about the anxiety from trying to sneak into R-rated movies as kids.  We jump into the 90's fashion world of baggy beige clothes and discuss how the opening scene is scary for different reasons as an adult. Our minds explode thinking about how these college students are now well into their 40's and yes, we know how time works, but sometimes it sucks to be reminded. In this special episode we add a new category: best and worst death scenes and decide if this horror sequel holds up to our adult standards.  

ITS OCTOBER! Which means that we are choosing some of our favorite Halloween/horror movies for the next couple of weeks. This week we take on a childhood favorite, Casper. We talk about how this Halloween themed movie was released in the summer and how that was confusing for us as kids. We discuss the hit and miss CGI featured in this film and how Casper's back story made us never want to go sledding again. We question what Casper's real unfinished business is and why he is still a ghost and the end. As always we award our favorites and decide if this "classic" holds up to our adult standards!  Don't forget to follow us on social media so we know that our listeners do exist and are not just Casper like ghosts.

It's a special week for Ruining Our Childhood, our wedding anniversary! To celebrate we rewatch the movie we went to on our first official date!  The 2006 "classic" Employee of the Month starring Dane Cook, Jessica Simpson, and Dax Shepard.  We recount the popularity of Dane Cook in the mid-2000's and how as a couple we saw most of his movies in theaters.  We break down all that this movie gets wrong about working retail and talk about how many "great" trailers there are from the DVD. We also discuss how no one is safe in this movie's offensive quest to be funny.  As always, we award the best and the worst of the film and decide if this movie that is so dear to our hearts holds up.  

This week, we take on one of teen Ashley's favorite movies.  The 2000 "classic" Whatever It Takes starring Shane West, James Franco, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, and Marla Sokoloff.  Its about two boys who make deals to help each other win over two girls.. We discuss how this movie introduced the world to Aaron Paul and remember when Furbies were a thing. We discuss why Palo Alto native James Franco sounds like he is from Brooklyn and how this movie really tried to convince us that Shane West wasn't good looking. We reminisce about how regular phones were our main source of communication at one point in time. As always we award our best and worst of the movie and answer the ultimate question, does this movie hold up to our adult standards?  

This week we rewatch one of teen Ryan's favorites. The 2002 "classic" Van Wilder starring Ryan Reynolds, Tara Reid, and Kal Penn. Before Ryan Reynolds was cracking wise as Deadpool, he was also cracking wise as a fifth year college senior. Join us as we discuss the enigma of Tara Reid's success and question why our younger selves found dog semen so hilarious. We reminisce about all the early 2000's references that this movie has to offer. Including Teck Holmes (Real World: Hawaii), Darius Miles, and chain wallets?  As always we give out our prestigious awards to the best and the worst and decide if this college flick holds up to our adult standards.

We are nearing the end of the summer, so for this episode we decided to watch Now and Then. This 1995 "classic" focuses on four girls during the summer of 1970. We reminisce about the freedom of riding our bikes pretty much everywhere while Ashley recounts the traumatizing events of playing Red Rover as a child. We question how these girls made the rest of the money for their dream treehouse (possibly grave robbing since they spend a lot of time in the cemetery?) This week we rewatch the 2004 "classic" Without a Paddle starring Seth Green, Dax Shepard, and Matthew Lillard. The early 2000's comedy film about three guys going out into the Oregon wilderness in search of the treasure from the real life mystery of D.B. Cooper.  We discuss everything from bad fashion choices of the new millennium and why answering machines are featured so heavily in this movie. We also talk about the amazing DVD trailers, like a Jude Law film we forgot existed and Coach Carter starring Ashanti? This week we celebrate Ashley's birthday with the 1995 "classic" The Baby-Sitters Club. One of Ashley's childhood favorites that was based on the popular novel series of the same name. We discuss all the 90's IT girls that are in this movie (Rachel Leigh Cook, Larisa Oleynik) as well as all the amazing fashion displayed by mean girl Cokie's group. (Listen as we mispronounce Cokie's dumb name throughout the whole episode.) We also question if the girls know what umbrellas are and how love interest Luca doesn't know how aging works.  As always, we talk about the worst and best actors of the movie and Ryan tries to guess if this film, that he has never seen apparently, holds up to our adult standards.  

We are back with our regularly scheduled favorites! This week we rewatch Batman Forever. This 1995 "classic" stars tons of people but is missing a childhood favorite (and some would say the only true Batman) Michael Keaton.  We discuss the casting choice of Chris O' Donnell's Robin and never actually answer what the title of the other movie Ashley had seen him in ( Ryan was right, it was The Bachelor!) We wonder about the lack of detective skills of Commissioner Gordon in investigating murder and wonder if Two-Face was doing cocaine in this movie.  Ryan talks about his love for Jim Carrey and the character of the Riddler and how this movie was basically cast by his 10 year old self. As always we award the best and the worst, and decide if this superhero gem is still a favorite 24 years later.

This episode we rewatch the coming of age film, Dazed and Confused.  The 1993 "classic" stars Jason London, Ben Affleck, and introduced the world to the chill persona of Matthew McConaughey.  Ashley talks about her love for any movie starring one of the London twins. We discuss our experiences with destruction of property as teenagers and the importance of football in small towns. As always, we give out our two coveted awards to the best and the worst and decide if this 90's teen comedy holds up. 

This week we watch one of teen Ashley's favorite films. The 1999 "classic" The Virgin Suicides starring Kirsten Dunst, James Woods, and Kathleen Turner. We discuss how hard it was to find a "funniest moment" in a movie about mass teenage suicide. We blow Ryan's mind on the vast Coppola family tree. As always, we award the best and worst picks and decide if this 90's indie film lives up to our teenage standards. 

This week we rewatch Lethal Weapon. The 1987 "classic" starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Ashley questions whether she has actually even seen this movie or if she is confusing it with the rewatching the spoof equivalent, Loaded Weapon. We discuss how the General's real name is Peter McCallister.  Home Alone would make so much more sense if Kevin was the son of super villain, right?   We question the purpose of the final fight between villain Joshua and Martin Riggs (Gibson). Also we spotlight a favorite character that also made a cameo in another episode, Gone in 60 Seconds. As always, we award our best and worst and decide if this action classic holds up to our adult standards. 

This episode we rewatch the 1997 "classic" Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.  A childhood favorite to both of us, we discuss how much we had rewatched this movie as a kid and how it was overly quoted for a good five years after it was released. (Who hasn't said 'yeah baby' at least once in their life?)  We also go over the various dated references (Vanilla Ice on ice, anyone?) including how this movie was set in a Las Vegas that is almost unrecognizable twenty plus years later.  As always we award our world famous awards to the best and the worst and decide if this favorite holds up to our adult standards. 

In this episode we tackle one of Ashley's childhood favorites, Jawbreaker.  The 1999 "classic" starring Rebecca Gayheart and Rose McGowan about a group of friends that accidentally murder one of their own. We discuss how this movie, as well as many other teen movies, gave us high expectations of prom where in every film there is a grand gesture or over the top revelation of love. Of course in this movie, we get less of a love confession and more of a murder one instead. We question a lot of choices made in this film like how this town's forensic lab must have not existed when the girls were trying to stage a crime scene in their friend's bedroom. As always we award our favorite and not so favorite acting awards and decide if Jawbreaker holds up to our adult standards. On this episode we rewatch and discuss Napoleon Dynamite. The quirky low budget indie "classic" that became a surprise hit in 2004. We talk about the out of date fashion of the small Idaho town on which the movie is set and how we forgot how much Uncle Rico was a creep. As always, we award our favorite "Cagey" and "Hanksy" award to the best and the worst and discuss if this comedy holds up to our adult standards. 

This week's episode was the latest winner of our Facebook poll, chosen by you our lovely listeners. The movie chosen was Gone in 60 Seconds a 2000 "classic" that has finally gave us the opportunity to watch a Nicolas Cage film. Listen as we discuss the plausibility of this whole movie and why the LAPD doesn't know how to properly use a helicopter. We question why some characters were given way too much screen time (Mirror Man we are looking at you) while others (Sway, Donny, pretty much everyone else) didn't. A 2003 "classic" starring Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn, and Will Ferrell.  Both of us were in high school when this comedy was released, so of course we loved it.  Listen as we discuss and honestly fumble through this week's episode. We talk about all the amazing cameos in this movie and we even draw parallels to Todd Phillips' later hit, The Hangover. Does this male driven comedy hold up to our adult standards? 

This week we rewatch The Wedding Singer starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. This 1998 “classic” about an 80's wedding singer trying to get over being left at the altar is one of Ryan's favorite Adam Sandler movies. Join us as we discuss the highs and lows of Sandler movies in general. We reminisce about the lack of awesome soundtracks in today's movies and discuss the ins and outs of romantic comedy troupes.  As always we give out everyone’s favorite awards to two lucky characters/actors of the film. Its our tenth episode guys! We decide to take on the 1996's Baz Luhrmann classic Romeo + Juliet. A movie that according to Ryan, made Shakespeare just a little easier to understand as a teenager.  Join us as Ashley reminisces about the soundtrack and her big "Leo" obsession growing up. As always we give our top awards to the best and worst actors of the film and decide if this reimagining of a literary giant holds up to our adult standards. 

This week we take on John Waters' Cry-Baby. A "classic" that was introduced to both of us thanks to the constant replay on the USA Network when we were kids. We discuss how a 12 year old Ashley thought the romance in this movie was realistic and how we are still confused on the exact relationship between Uncle Belvedere (Iggy Pop) and Grandma Ramona. Are they blood related? Or was it just a "this is your 'uncle' but he is really my boyfriend type situation?"  Regardless, we break down this movie in all its weird glory. As always we crown our valedictorian of The Nicolas Cage Online School of Bad Acting and decide if this 90's musical holds up. 

This week we rewatch the cult classic Heathers,  a dark teen comedy about killing off popular kids.  This is our first listener requested movie! Thanks Alexis, friend and listener of the podcast.  We discuss all the amazing 80's fashion (holy shoulder pads!), the witty one liners, and how this movie glosses over some big social issues.  As always, we decide who deserves the Thomas J. Hanks award and if this favorite holds up with our adult standards.

It's the week we have all been waiting for! Well, most of us MCU loving humans at least. Avengers: Endgame is finally hitting theaters this week and its about damn time! In the spirit of celebrating Marvel films, we take on Sam Raimi's version of everyone's favorite Web-Slinger. 2002's Spider-Man was a super successful film and as Ryan points out is still one of the highest grossing films of all time. Will this early Marvel success stay the same in our hearts? Or are we too spoiled by all of the range that the MCU has given us the last decade?  Listen now to find out! 

This week we rewatch the children's classic Heavyweights.  We discuss our major camp envy as two 90's kids that never had the opportunity to go. We also talk about how Tony Perkis is really just an early version of Ben Stiller's Dodgeball villain, White Goodman. What's your favorite scary movie? Well if it's 1996's Scream, you're in luck!  We rewatch this iconic horror film that left some of us scared to answer the phone while home alone at night. We question the logistics of moving dead bodies and remember a time when cell phones (or cellular telephones according to the Woodsboro Sheriff) were suspicious to own. We hand out our not so real awards for the best and worst acting. Who will take away the Thomas J. Hanks award this week? As always, we decide if Scream has what it takes to hold up to our adult standards.

It's time for Ruining Our Childhood's second episode!  We stick to the late 90's, but shift into a more dramatic and seedy classic. We watch Cruel Intentions and discuss if Ashley still has her Ryan Phillippe poster somewhere in storage.
