This weeks episode has a strong theme of seeing things you just aren't sure of! We have so much non spoopy info to share with you that we will keep this part short! Dan shares the folklore of the "hidebehind", something that is hiding in the woods! Then off to the Philippines for haunting of the elementals. It's a bizarre story with a surprise ending! Lynze has some info to share about the spirit in their house, followed by two fan tales. The first comes in from Colorado (she misspoke in the episode and said Texas) from a LEO about being called into a domestic dispute that is anything but that. Then story two will have you wondering what exactly is crawling into bed with you at night. Don't be surprised if it's not your beloved pet.
Bad Magic Third Annual Giving Tree Info:
This year marks the 3rd annual Bad Magic Giving Tree! Over the last 3 years, we have taken what would be the monthly donation for a charity and kept it in our Bad Magic family. The first year, we only had the donation money. Then last year, the fans wanted to help. Dan and I offered to match the total amount donated, which was maybe a bit insane, as the fans donated over $18,000. Lynze and I also donated more than $18,000, plus the $11,000 from Timesuck’s Patreon and we had over $47,000 to spend!
This year, we are excited to announce the Bad Magic Giving Tree once again! We will be using the December Patreon donation to kick start the fund for this year’s Bad Magic Giving Tree. We estimate we’ll be donating roughly $16,000 from Patreon. If any of our fans would like to donate to the cause, this year, we are only accepting Amazon gift cards. Dan and I will be matching up to $15k. If fully matched, that’s $46k. Every little bit counts to help fellow Bad Magicians - listeners of Scared To Death, Timesuck, and/or Is We Dumb. If you have $10 or $20 to give, it helps. The average donation last year was approximately $50 - and all the money went to helping Bad Magic families have a better holiday. If you would like to donate, you can simply go to amazon.com and purchase a gift card. When you fill in the box for “TO” simply enter the email address [email protected].
How will we choose who we help? That’s the hardest part. But here is what seems to be the best way to handle it:We believe that every kid deserves a happy holidays - Christmas, Hanukkah or otherwise. And we know the pandemic has made it harder than ever to give kids a nice holiday for many families. The requirements for to get some presents for the family this year are quite simple. We ask that you be honest. And we ask that only those with kids reach out. We are happy to keep your names anonymous from the community and it is entirely your choice if you want to post about your gifts. Of course, we cannot accommodate everyone but we will do our best to help as many people as we can. We cannot pay your cell phone bill or your utility bill but we can send things you might need like diapers and socks and some things your kiddos might want, like new toys.If you and your family are need of help this holiday season, please email us at [email protected] .We will gather all of the names, literally put them in a hat and pick at random. We don’t think it’s fair for us to choose who should be on the receiving end of this gift. We are accepting nominations from now until NOVEMBER 16TH. At that time, the names will be entered into the Giving Tree “hat” and we will notify ONLY the recipients ASAP to explain how they will receive their donations. We will be sharing updates as we have them, on how much money we have and how many families we think we can help!
Bad Magic Productions Monthly Patreon Donation: No idea how much we’re donating, because again of when this was recorded, but the Bad Magic Productions charity of the month is IAVA - Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.
From their mission statement: We are here to serve and empower our post-9/11 veterans community. We believe these dynamic men and women represent America’s future – our next greatest generation. They are our true north, and everything we do is designed to focus on them and the positive future they bring to the world. They offer all of the guidance and support to where those resources are. Things like how to get and use their GI bill, help with housing, mental health support. After recent events with the Afghanistan withdrawal, and with Veteran’s Day coming up, this felt like the right choice this month.

Opening Sumerian protection spell (adapted):
"Whether thou art a ghost that hath come from the earth, or a phantom of night that hath no home… or one that lieth dead in the desert… or a ghost unburied… or a demon or a ghoul… Whatever thou be until thou art removed… thou shalt find here no water to drink… Thou shalt not stretch forth thy hand to our own… Into our house enter thou not. Through our fence, breakthrough thou not… we are protected though we may be frightened. Our life you may not steal, though we may feel SCARED TO DEATH."
