Join us for a case that is told from the unique perspective of someone who was right there, as it unfolded... as it happened - Lian Highet - one of our loyal patreon supporters. Thank you Lian.
In the mid 1980's, William Beggs picked up 28-year-old Barry Oldham in a Newcastle nightclub, before taking him back to his flat for sex.
But it wasn't just sex that Beggs had an appetite for that night. He had murder in mind. After having sex with Barry Oldham, Beggs murdered him before attempting to cut off his head and legs.
He was caught and given a life sentence for this senseless murder, but in a shocking twist, he ended up serving less than two years.
In 1989 his conviction was quashed after appeal judges criticised evidence led by the prosecution.
But he was back in prison two years later after being convicted of slashing a gay man at his flat.
Beggs was released early from his six-year sentence in 1994 for good behaviour and moved to Scotland some time later, but he could not keep a lid on his violent tendencies...
