Christine Cocchiola, LCSW, a return guest on Slam the Gavel discusses Post Separation Abuse and how the courts and Legislation have Cognitive Dissonance as they don't want to believe Coercive Control exists.
Major discussion on Compound Trauma and the article, "Welcome to Holland," written by Emily Pearl Kingsley which can be related to Coercive Control that leads to Post Separation Abuse before and after leaving an abusive relationship.
"The power to control," states Christine, is what it comes down to as 50% of all women and children are homeless due to leaving Coercive Controlling relationships while Post Separation Abuse can occur in a relationship before, during and after.
Not only does this damage the Target Parent, but especially the children.  Christine asks, "how would you treat a child with a physical wound?" Positive coping skills for parents and their children are extremely helpful.
We discussed Legislation, Ty's Law in Colorado HB 21-1099, Kyra's Law in New York A05398, Kaden's Law in Pennsylvania SB 868 and Jennifers' Law in Connecticut 1091 SB, proposed by Alex Kasser.
