Slam the Gavel welcomes Jackie to the Podcast. While living in Colorado, Jackie shared her story of her relationship of insidious psychological abuse from a boy she met in high school who was older than she.
Jackie began to explain the RED FLAGS of this relationship that was doomed when it began. She says that in the first year the love-bombing began and presenting her with expensive presents. Jackie wondered where did he get the money when he didn't hold any type of job. He then slowly talked her out of wearing makeup, then not dressing in the fashion of the time. The gaslighting began and he slowly alienated her away from her closest girlfriends.
By year two, he was trying to do nice things for her father and watching TV with him, but that slowly dwindled away. Jackie and her boyfriend did argue, and he would continuously make it look like the arguments were all her fault or she did something wrong, even to justify him punching a wall. Jackie said she was never raised around any of her parents "going off," or hitting walls.
Year three came along and Jackie started believing that she was the one in the wrong all the time and that she was crazy. Then he started chipping away at the relationship she had with her parents. "You're not your old self around here," Jackie's mother said, but no response from Jackie. However Jackie was slowly being brainwashed to not only think she was wrong about everything, but that she felt she was going crazy.
Jackie had been seeing a counselor but she was not ready to accept the emotional abuse. This happened with time. The boyfriend made several comments that she should become a physician so she could make more money than what she was. His "little retirement fund." Then he began cheating on her. That's where it ended. Jackie herself had became so numb to the abuse that when he left her she was exhausted. Jackie said that she had cried in her parents arms and slept for twelve-hours a day to recover from years of torment.
A podcast not to be missed by ANYONE. The RED FLAGS alone are to be closely looked at. Jackie wishes that in high school that they would teach some form of psychology to make young people aware of this type of abuse and personality disorders.
