Slam the Gavel welcomes Judith M. Weigle. She has been a mediator for 11 years, a Legal Document Assistant for 10 years, and in private practice family law for 10 years.
Judith explains that there is a new level of service being offered to the legal community users, which is the Paraprofessional. This is completely rocking the world of attorneys because it is taking from them the most two sacred aspects of their services:
Providing legal advice AND showing up in court with a Pro Per/Pro Se litigant.
Washington State was the first state with Paraprofessionals however, now they are discontinuing licenses. Utah and Nevada have already instituted this newly credentialed person and the attorneys have brought it on themselves by OVERCHARGING and badly representing their own clients. The concept is to provide access to the legal system to people who cannot afford $400.00 per hour. Judith explains the pros and cons to the Paraprofessional.
Judith encourages the public to look for lawyers that are ethical. For instance, in a divorce, you can control when you file for divorce and you can control the speed of the divorce. If a person goes through the emotions and grief stages, divorce becomes a new beginning. If your attorney is going to engage in this conversation with you, then you have a good attorney. There should be no need for Father's Rights attorneys, as children need both parents have become the topic.
Collusion, bias and the unethical behaviors of attorneys was heavily discussed from attorneys creating emotional pain and then compounding the emotional pain by unethical frivolous filings and continuances.
The bar must be raised on attorney ethics.
