Slam the Gavel welcomes Kajal Emmett to the podcast. Kajal Emmett was born in New Delhi, India. Before the age of 4, she was abandoned and left in the street where she took train after train trying to make my way back home.
Eventually Kajal was picked up by a police officer and brought to an orphanage in Asharan, India. At the age of four, she was then adopted by an American family. Being placed in foster care when she was just 15 years old, she remained there until aging out of the system at 21. Kajal is the only foster child who has completed the entire Elks Aidmore program.
Kajal's passion in life is to fight for the rights of young foster children in the system. She understands what it's like to be in Foster Care. Kajal wants to provide opportunities for these young children to have and share their voices as well as be a positive example for them to navigate through the system. Kajal is also ready to take on all challenges that come along with advocating for Foster Care children.
Sharing her story of living in a Foster Home and what happened in her life that then led her to running away and ending up in a Group Home, Kajal's story is so unique. We discussed how victims end up being punished and the offenders rarely get punished, "the one getting abused gets locked up." Why is life so unfair and so unfortunate for children in Foster Care? Children in Foster Care are conditioned to live in survival mode at all times while walking on eggshells to please the Foster Parent. These children have suffered so much trauma in their young lives to only relive it when being pulled out of one foster home and be placed into another group home.
Kajal wants to thank Jesus for leading, guiding and protecting her to be on the right step. She is so grateful to Jesus for allowing her to go through what she went through so she can help other kids who have been affected by the foster care system. It's time to TAKE A STAND. "What then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us who can be against us," Romans 8:31).
