Slam the Gavel welcomes Marita Murphy from Ballarat, Melbourne, Australia on to the show. Marita shared her story of being a sexual abuse victim in Melbourne at the age of seven back in 1968 by two young men twice her age.
Marita explained that her mother had fallen ill and went to live with friends of the family. That is when the incident occurred. However, the adults Marita was staying with at the time found out because after a week to ten days, she spoke up about these strangers at the dinner table.
For over four decades, Marita coped in sadness, silence and anger. She was determined to revisit this incident when she became emotionally stronger and an adult.
There is so much to Marita's story and it is highlighted in the now well documented and subject of a self produced documentary titled, "You Be The Judge," the Marita Murphy story now online and found on YouTube. It is a MUST SEE.
But her story takes a definite twist, and not in Marita's favor. As a consequence of pretty much following "Due Process," she became the first test case in Victoria Australia challenging the Statute of Limitations laws, and sadly failing.
Marita Murphy has used "horse therapy," to get her through her emotions of sadness and anger. As she evolved, and at the age of 15, she became licensed in 1976 at the Victoria Racing Club. She is also a very strong advocate and warrior for children of child sexual abuse.
