Slam the Gavel welcomes Laurie Reynolds to the Podcast. Laurie is a Mother of three.
Laurie Reynolds and her two children (at the time) had began experiencing domestic violence shortly after she married. After the mother started a DivorceCare class at her church and had started counseling at the domestic violence shelter, DCF had placed the children back into the abuse.
On August 2017, her ex was registered with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as a kidnapper when he disappeared with her nursing daughter Skye, who was two. Meredith Morrisson was the case manager.
However, on October 30th, 2018, her ex fell into a prolonged coma for over 30 days at Flagler Hospital in Saint Augustine, FL. After some investigating, it was found he was on the renal care floor. Laurie's attorney had filed for an emergency pickup of her children. The judge had stated the placing of her children with non-relative "former neighbors," was "unlawful and highly disfavourable" [sic]. He had postponed the hearing and her ex-husband had "miraculously" stumbled out of the hospital literally to the next hearing and the children were placed back with him.
In July, three months later, the judge decided to leave the two children there. Laurie was deemed substantially compliant according to Florida law, a DCF investigator of 25 years testified that the children should be returned to her. There had been no mention of the kidnapping, the strangulation, the assault and battery and the neglect, although the children stated they had no food. Their little brother, Silas, had remained and was placed with Laurie after his birth, as Putnam County saw no reason to keep any of the three children away.
