Colleen Murray, Ph.D.,LPC Discusses Her Work in Counseling, Parental Alienation And Florida House Bill 241

Slam the Gavel welcomes Colleen Murray, Ph.D. LPC, Owner of Victor's Crown Christian Counseling Center and Adjunct Professor at Drury University.
     Colleen is married and a mom to three kids. She is very passionate about helping people who are hurting. She believes that it is an awesome privilege when a client comes to her for help and allows her to walk alongside them during such a vulnerable time in their life.
     During their intake, she relays to her clients how much she appreciates them choosing to counsel and that counseling is not easy.  There is no magic pill or magic wand that will take the pain away. She explains to them that the work will be challenging and uncomfortable at times and they may want to give up, but if they persevere, she promises to be right there with them the whole time to help lessen their pain of their mental health issues and overcoming the challenges that brought them to counseling in the first place.
     Colleen is a well rounded counselor and has a specialty in Trauma. Trauma left undressed can destroy not only that individual but their family as well. She offers groups, family and couples therapy. She will admit that children and teens have her heart because she believes they are our most precious asset as a nation.
     We talked about  Florida House Bill 241 being passed recently and how to make changes in your state.  There will also be a symposium in October, presented by Family Access in Durham NC with well-known professionals such as Elaine Cobb, Dr. Sue Cornbluth and Anne Gottlieb to name a few. This symposium is to help people dealing with grief of losing their children and coping with emptiness.
