My only issue is that Boba Fett is acting how I’d expect the Mandalorian to act, and the Mandalorian acts how I’d expect Boba Fett to act.
Boba should be calm, quiet, callous, and less talkative, however that’s Mando’s personality. Now that the two are in the same show, I can’t help but compare them to one another, and while I love Boba Fett much more than the Mandalorian, this new Disney version of him is kind of pissing me off. I feel like his personality needs to be more like a villain. He shouldn’t care so much. He doesn’t need to rule with respect, he’s Boba freaking Fett, he can rule however he pleases. The show has some of my favourite moments in Star Wars don’t get me wrong, especially the second episode, but when Boba started to speak so much and be so soft to literally everyone, it just makes him look weak, not like the hardened Boba we know. I mean, Boba in the originals had no more than 2 minuets of screen time in the entire trilogy and yet he was made a fan favourite for literal decades. The reason for this is his story wasn’t told. He wasn’t so talkative. You always wonder what’s he thinking, what’s his facial expression. The helmet has no expression, so you get this very callous and stoic demeanour from him, much like Jango. But with Boba now, as much as I love Tem Morrisson, I feel like he needs to be a little more cut throat and not be so damn nice to people like the biker gang for example. When the girl was giving him attitude, he should have tied her up with his cable and flown into the air threatening to drop her, while shooting rockets at their bikes or feet to let them know not to piss around. The mayor’s assistant, he should have smacked him a long time ago and when he took off, I’d have preferred if he flew into the air really fast and shot down his speeder, or flown infant of his windshield, aiming his blaster at him while they move in the same direction, Boba gliding backwards with him.
The only time Boba has been bad ass was with the Tuskens or in the flashback with the slave 1, but outside of that, he just gets his butt kicked and talks way too much as Tem Morrisson even mentioned in an interview.
I feel like when you have Boba and Mando in a show, there needs to be one outranking the other in terms of who is more bad ass. Since Din is a hero, Boba needs to remain in the shadows, I’m not saying make him Darth Vader level of evil, but make him mysterious, you never know what he’s thinking, what his next move will be. Right now I just feel like he’s a bit of a pushover and it bugs me because Boba was one of my favourite tough guys growing up. I believe he’s going to kick some ass, I fully have faith in Jon and Dave, that said, I just hope Disney or others aren’t forcing their hand to write Boba as more of a delicate flower than a raging ticking time bomb of carnage and rockets.
Boba in Mando season 2 outshined everyone, and he was in full original trilogy and comics boba mode, I’d like to see the same from him in the show, and I hope we see it in the next few episodes.
Wonderful story, wonderful writing and directing and acting by the whole cast and crew, however I feel Tem should be listened to when he exclaims Boba is talking too much. Remember, Tem knows Jango from George Lucas, he knows this character inside and out. There was a specific vision George had when casting Tem as Jango, and there’s a lot of behind the scenes screening that went on before the decision was made, primarily on Tem’s quiet and badass stoic demeanour and attitude.
Let’s hope we get to see Tem act Boba the way he suggested and the way we remember Fett to be from all the source material.
