in the new Secrets of the Sith novel by insight editions (canon) we learn of a lot of new things from Palpatine's point of view. Much like the secrets of the Jedi book a few years ago all from Luke's point of view, this one is all about Sidious and his thoughts on characters, weapons, time periods, and the galaxy overall. It's a cool book and I like it, despite its slight conflicting statements which we can discuss another time (I could even be incorrect about those).
In this one, there is something that Palpatine mentions called the Aeon drive. This was something from the Vader immortal game for VR (amazing game) and it essentially has the power to bring anyone back from the dead. Vader used it in the game to bring back Padme. We even heard parts in the game from Anakin Skywalker, Padme, and other prequel characters that made us realize how powerful this magic was. In the end, Padme's silhouette even appeared, before you, as the player, destroy the bright star while fighting Vader.
Palpatine even states this in his book that it can be recreated and if in the hands of a Sith, could be perilous for the galaxy. Why would he say that? Why would they write that in if not to perhaps use it sometime later? It definitely is an opening, in my opinion.
I don't want Palpatine to return.
let me contradict myself. I do want Palpatine to return if they're going to make him return, BUT, he needs to be young, prime era Sheev Palpatine. Unlimited power in a youthful body. That would be interesting to see.
The idea of bringing back the dead undermines the death of characters.
I also believe this is how they could bring back Kylo Ren / Ben Solo, which would be great to see him in the story, however, unfortunate they had to resurrect him.
All information in the book is canon, however my theories, of course, are not.
