In anticipation of the premiere of HBO’s soon to be latest hit, I’ve decided to re-release the genre-flipping crime horror 2018 novel.
I didn't think I was going to do it, but I did! Here is a top ten of the most important/best/impactful/influential works or adaptations of the works of a Stephen King property from the last decade. The beginning of the decade started out a little rocky, but as we head into 2020, he's back on top, possibly sitting larger than ever before. 2010-2019 gave us a lot of Stephen King content (including this podcast!), so plug in and hear me out as I rank my top ten works of Stephen King over the last decade!
Welcome back! As promised in the last episode, I conclude my thoughts on Full Throttle with an in-depth review of "In the Tall Grass," both the short story and the 2019 Netflix movie. How do they compare? Find out this week in the Stephen Kingcast!
I take a break from Stephen King this week to celebrate Joe Hill's recent collection of short stories, Full Throttle. If you haven't checked out Joe Hill's previous works, please do so! Hello all! In anticipation of Mike Flanagan's film of the same name, I've decided to re-release my review of King's book. Welcome back! This week, I dive into the second story arc within Locke and Key, Head Games!
Hooo boy, this one's a doozy! After an eternity of promises, I finally follow through on my review of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez's phenomenal comic book series, Locke and Key. Stay tuned through the next couple months as I make my way through the entirety of the series, marveling at Hill's plotting and characterization, and Rodriguez's ability to bring this story to life on the page. In this episode, I read some listener e-mail, iTunes reviews, and start off my review with a deep dive into the history/recent history of the horror genre within the comic book medium. So although the episode title suggests that I only talk about Locke and Key, don't be fooled! Here we are at the conclusion of Castle Rock? Did it live up to expectations? What did it all mean? What were Thomason and Shaw playing at this entire time? Tune into this episode to find out!
There are other worlds than these.
Things have begun to spiral out of control within this sleepy little berg. Thankfully that makes for thrilling television!
Grab your tissues. You're going to need them.
Oooooh, boy, this show is getting good, guys!
Welcome back, everyone! In this week, I talk about the recent news regarding Castle Rock season 2, dive into some e-mails and review episode 5!
In this very special episode, co-creator and co-showrunner of Castle Rock, Dustin Thomason and I talk about all things Stephen King, the origins of Castle Rock, the push/pull of creativity v. continuity, why they settled on Alan Pangborn. . .and Polly Chalmers. If you are enjoying the show of the summer for 2018, then I believe you'll get a lot out of this episode. I want to thank Dustin for his thoughtfulness and generosity for takign the time (for God's sake, the man stepped away from editing the final episodes of his show to speak with me!) to sit down for this interview. Here we go, everyone! Sit back and enjoy my conversation with Dustin Thomason!
"You had my curiousity, but now you have my attention." These words were uttered in the movie Django Unchained, but they sum up how I feel with Castle Rock, coming out of episode 4. This episode raised the bar in terms of stakes and weight. Make no mistake, Castle Rock has been a fun show until now, but with episode 4, it became a GREAT show. There's a lot to unpack, so freshen up with a high and tight in your local forest barber murder den, pop on some Roy Orbison and dive into Castle Rock, episode 4!
Welcome back, everyone! Here are all my thoughts on Castle Rock's second and third episodes.
Welcome back, or should I say, welcome home to Stephen King's most celebrated town, the one and only Castle Rock. We've all been waiting for this moment for over a year, since we first witnessed that surprise trailer drop on February 19th, 2017. And last night at midnight, the very first episode of this original series set within King's town was dropped. How did it fare? Did it live up to expectation? Want to discuss the many mysteries and Easter Eggs found within? Then you've come to the right place, everyone. Welcome back to Castle Rock!

Part crime-fiction, part supernatural, it's a great blend of the genres that King loves, and the mix creates for a new, enjoyable experience that plays upon real-world fears. Plus, it includes the appearance of a fan-favorite Stephen King character! That was such a treat!
Plug in, and let's take a virtual tour of 1992's nonsensical quasi-adaptation of Stephen King's short story.
Okay, everyone! I'm back to review all of the short stories I didn't get around to the first time around when I reviewed Stephen King's Skeleton Crew, back in the long, long ago. So buckle up, pop those earbuds in and join me on a journey through King's fantastic collection of short story horror!

Hey guys! This past weekend, news hit that a big-budget adaptation of The Tommyknockers directed by The Conjuring and Insidious director James Wan was being shopped around. So I decided to share my thoughts on this, along with my thoughts on some news regarding The Stand adaptation. But because The Tommyknockers is such a maligned and unloved novel, I thought it was important for people to be able to see it in a different light, so I've re-released my review of the book, which isn't without it's flaws, but is jam-packed with wonderful ideas, imagery and chills that make me excited for whatever James Wan (I trust that guy!) has up his sleeve.
Happy February, everyone! I just wanted to pop in, say "hi" and give a tour of Stephen King news to get us excited about 2018.

Welcome back, everyone! Here is my re-release of the second part of my 3 part It review. Make sure that you stick around for Part Three, and DEFINITELY make sure you tune in to my review of the upcoming cinematic adaption!
To celebrate the upcoming release of It, I'm re-releasing my reviews of King's masterpiece. Enjoy!
From the original episode description:
In 1986, the master of horror released the novel worthy of his title. This novel reflected many of the themes, characters, and story beats that he had introduced in his earlier novels and stands as his ultimate thesis of the horror genre. More importantly, it is the pinnacle of coming of age stories, a tale that places childhood friends at the center of a cosmic conflict, and only through the power of friendship can we overcome our fears. If that doesn't speak to Mr. King's sensibilities, I don't know what does.
Oh, and it has a scary clown!Welcome back, everyone! In this episode, I discuss some Castle Rock casting, some early buzz around the upcoming IT adaptation and review 1984's Cat's Eye! Enjoy!
I have long been on record as a critic of King's Mr. Mercedes trilogy. So when I heard that David E. Kelly was making a television based on this property, I was less than interested. Now that I've watched two episodes of this series, how do I feel about Bill, Brady, Jerome and the gang? Tune in and find out!

And to kick off the Stephen Kingcast 2.0, I present my review of King and Chizmar's collaboration, a return to your favorite small town (with an appearance from your favorite Walkin' Dude!): Gwendy's Button Box.
At long last, I have finally reached my personal Dark Tower. . .The Dark Tower trailer.
Wow. I didn't know I was going to be as excited as I currently am about the upcoming It adaptation. This week was an incredible week to be a fan of Stephen King. On Tuesday, we were treated to a poster and a tease for a record-smashing trailer that ultimately debuted on Wednesday. Between the incredible poster and the trailer, my expectations for this movie are now very high. In this week's episode, I review this past week and break down WHY this trailer is as effective as it is.
Hello, everyone! In this episode, I review the official first poster of The Dark Tower, discuss the passing of Bernie Wrightson and provide an update on the future of the Stephen Kingcast. This was a spur of the moment recording (because I didn't expect the poster to arrive) so I apologize for the lack of microphone and song intro/outro.
In honor of all of the New Englanders snowed in by Nor'easter Stella, I'm re-releasing my review of The Storm of the Century!
Last night, Constant Readers were surprised with an unannounced teaser revealing a collaboration between Stephen King and JJ Abrams about Maine's most famous fictional small town, Castle Rock. In this episode, I break down what was given to us and examine what it might mean for the show itself.
In this week's episode, I do a deep dive analysis exploring the relationship between The Stand and the Dark Tower. Enjoy!
Welcome back, everyone. Due to the political turmoil in the country, I am re-releasing my reviews of The Stand. Here is the third part of my analysis of Stephen King's analysis.
Welcome back, everyone. In this week's episode, due to the current state of our country, I have re-released the second part to my analysis of The Stand.
Welcome back, everyone. Based on recent current events, I thought it was pertinent to re-release my examination of King's The Stand. When I watch millions of women and men gather together to protest intolerance and bigotry, when your neighbors leave their homes to protect your rights while others threaten to take those rights away, I can't help but think of Mother Abigail's message to her people. Remember, at the end of the world, God did not ask His people to go to war with Randall Flagg. He merely asked His people to stand against him. I'm re-releasing my reviews of Stephen King's classic in honor of everyone who is out there making their stand.
And for the record, despite what I say in this episode, I do NOT believe that Fran's baby is the Crimson King! :)
Welcome back everyone. Due to the passing of Miguel Ferrer, who played Stephen King characters Lloyd Henried and Richard Dees, I am re-releasing my episode of 1997's The Night Flier, an unappreciated movie that everyone should go out and watch tonight in honor of the late, beloved character actor. I have recorded an all-new introduction in which I say good-bye to an actor who will always be remembered by me as the one, the only, Special Agent Albert Rosenfield, whose life philosphy was beautifully stated in a memorable scene in Twin Peaks:
"While I will admit to a certain cynicism, the fact is that I am a naysayer and hatchetman in the fight against violence. I pride myself in taking a punch and I'll gladly take another because I choose to live my life in the company of Gandhi and King. My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love."
Rest in peace, Miguel Ferrer. You will be missed.
Hey, guys! I'm back with a review of 1992's gloriously atrocious masterpiece: Mick Garris' Sleepwalkers!
In this episode, I review The Fireman by Joe Hill. Enjoy!
Happy Holidays, everyone! I wasn't going to let 2016 end without recording at least one more episode. I had been hoping it would be a review of the Dark Tower trailer, but because Sony hasn't released it (as promised) I decided to get my review of Cell out of the way.
Welcome back, everyone! As you know, earlier this month, Stephen King concluded his Mercedes Killer trilogy with End of Watch. As promised, I'm here to review his latest, as well as talk about some Dark Tower movie news. Come along for the ride!
In this week's episode of Stephen Kingcast, I will examine Stephen King's first collection of short stories: Night Shift. Rather than analyzing each one, I analyze a handful of stories that stood out to me, including the foreword to the collection from the author.
