In 1920's Pennslyvania, Nelson Rehmeyer was a local powwower, a sort of witch. And three men in particular had troubled lives, and believed all their problems stemmed from a curse caused by Nelson. And so a plot began, ending in murder. A murder that was discovered in the most witchcraft-y way possible.
