This Week on the Podcast: Elisabeth Hasselbeck Shares the Message Behind Her New Children’s Book “God’s Masterpiece”
This week on The Bible for Kids podcast, hosts Mike Nawrocki and Tricia Goyer welcome New York Times bestselling author, Emmy Award winner, and beloved TV personality Elisabeth Hasselbeck—formerly of The View and Fox & Friends—to discuss her powerful new children’s book, God’s Masterpiece: An Adventure in Discovering Your Worth.
“Our God makes us one of a kind! You’re priceless, don’t you see? Because there is no other you, and there is no other me!”
In a world focused on external labels and comparisons, Elisabeth Hasselbeck offers a faith-filled message of identity, value, and purpose for kids. Perfect for Christian families, homeschoolers, Sunday schools, and church libraries, this book also includes a reflective mirror at the end, reminding children that they too are a one-of-a-kind creation.
Whether you're looking for a Christian picture book about identity, a faith-based gift for young children, or a way to start conversations about self-worth and God’s love, God’s Masterpiece is a must-have addition to your bookshelf.
🎧 Tune in now to hear Elisabeth Hasselbeck share the heart behind the book, the stories that inspired it, and why every child needs to know they are God’s masterpiece.

On this episode host Mike Nawrocki welcomes new co-host for 2025 Tricia Goyer along with her son Nathan Goyer to talk about their new book, Breath of Bones, book 1 in The Clockwork Chronicles Series.
Kateřina Dubová has always aspired to walk in her father's footsteps as a respected journalist, and the Second World War presents a unique opportunity for her to prove her worth to the world. A tip about an assassination attempt on a high-ranking Nazi official, Reinhard Heydrich, the "Butcher of Prague," leads Kateřina into the shadows of the Nazi occupation. Soon she discovers things are not as they seem.
As intrigue unfurls, Kateřina joins forces with Josef Loew, a descendant of the famous Rabbi Loew, renowned for creating a mystical guardian in the form of a golem to protect the souls of 16th-century Jews in Prague. In the chaos of war, some believe a new golem can once again bring help to those in need.
Like flickering candles in the abyss, Kateřina and Josef work to protect the innocent and end the evil that plagues their world. Yet, in their quest to save the Jewish people, have they inadvertently created a new danger? Could the very entity they had forged to protect become their greatest enemy?
Tricia Goyer writes out of her passion for God and her love for family and others. The author of more than 70 books, she writes both historical fiction and nonfiction related to family and parenting.

This week hosts Mike Nawrocki and Sarah Humphrey talk with acclaimed singer, songwriter and now author Jason Gray about his new children's book, Sparrows.
Critically acclaimed Centricity Music singer/songwriter Jason Gray debuts his first children’s book, Sparrows, based on his popular award-winning song by the same name. Drawing inspiration from this radio hit off his 2016 album Where the Light Gets In, Gray joined creative forces with noted children’s author Jes Woller and illustrator Hilary Griffith in the release of this heartwarming children’s hardcover book geared to kids ages three to eight.
“I've always dreamed of writing a children's book,” declares Jason Gray, “And when Centricity Music offered to partner with me in that endeavor, I sat down with my friend Kory Henkel, Director of Marketing and Communications, to discuss which of my songs had a message that could translate well to children. ‘Sparrows’ was the obvious pick!
“From there we brainstormed about a storyline that would be age appropriate and meaningful, ultimately collaborating with co-writer Jes Woller, who has a real gift for speaking the language of children,” continues Gray. “The process resulted in the story of Ellie, a little girl who struggles daily with stuttering, and how she overcame her anxiety by trusting God with her worries and responding to bullying with love, kindness and compassion instead of retaliation.”
With a genuine heart for connecting with others and known for the compassionate honesty and authenticity he offers through his music, Gray drew from his own personal experience and shares that Matthew 6:25-34 and Matthew 10:29-31 are the cornerstone verses for both the song and the book, each addressing the theme of trusting God in the face of anxiety and worry. As a child, Gray struggled with a speech impediment, so incorporating this into the storyline of Sparrows was a way to share his own struggles in hopes of helping others.

This week hosts Sarah Humphrey and Mike Nawrocki talk with author Maria Antonia about her new book, The Christmas Elephant.
Ellie wants to be an elephant in the Christmas play but her know-it-all sister says she’ll ruin everything. When Baby Jesus goes missing, Ellie must find him, or the play will be ruined (but not because Ellie is an elephant)!
Ellie thinks outside the box. She stands her ground and remains in her elephant costume even when her older sister—and director of this year’s Christmas play— demands she change into a sheep costume. The theme of standing up for your own uniqueness sends a subtle message to children that they can fit in anywhere if they persevere and don’t give in to peer pressure. Ellie’s approach to standing her ground is entertaining and empowering. There is also a teaching moment for the bossy sister who comes to see that everything doesn’t have to work out the way she planned in order to be wonderful. The Christmas Elephant is an ideal addition for family, preschool, elementary school, and community library Christmas picture book collections.
This unique holiday book is perfect for:

This week hosts Mike Nawrocki and Sarah Humphrey interview author Jayne Schooler about her new book; Caring for Kids from Hard Places.
Why doesn’t he act his age? Why does she behave so impulsively? Why does he have meltdowns so often?
There is always meaning behind behavior in all of us. It might be a behavioral reaction from something as simple as hunger or exhaustion. Or something far more serious – a triggered reaction to a traumatic, frightening experience.
Children who have experienced early childhood neglect or trauma are often greatly impacted in developmental ways. Children in foster care or who are given up for adoption often deal with these kinds of negative early experiences and it can be difficult to know how to help. People who teach–either in school or children’s ministry often see these youngsters’ behavior as confusing and don’t understand why.
In Caring for Kids from Hard Places, Jayne and David Schooler discuss the reasons behind why children and teens sometimes exhibit potentially disruptive behavior. Together, they offer practical strategies on training, equipping and resourcing staff and volunteers to provide a responsive environment for children with behavioral challenges. Caring for Kids from Hard Places includes:
Discover how to better love children from difficult backgrounds and pave their way for a better life.

In response to the grace Jesus showed him, Zacchaeus was transformed from the inside out. He repented, treasured Jesus above everything else, and showed kindness and generosity to others like never before.
Use this story to teach children that only following Jesus will make them truly happy and fulfilled, and that genuine repentance and faith is demonstrated by loving others.

This week hosts Mike Nawrocki and Sarah Humphrey talk with author Dr David Erickson about his new book, The Flourishing Family: A Jesus-Centered Guide to Parenting with Peace and Purpose.
When it comes to Christian parenting, we crave confidence, wisdom, and―most of all―peace.
We pray for peace when our little ones are tossed about by waves of emotions, for connection and confidence when navigating stressful mornings and exhausting nights, and for wisdom in knowing how best to discipline our kids. As Christian parents, we’re desperate to “get it right,” to raise our children to be strong, courageous followers of Jesus―and yet, despite the overload of endless advice at our fingertips, we often feel completely and utterly lost.
You can become the parent Christ has called you to be―and change your home and family from the inside out. In The Flourishing Family, Dr. David and Amanda Erickson offer a new parenting perspective―one that cultivates peace, gentleness, and confidence. Deeply rooted in Scripture and backed by modern neuroscience as well as insight into child development, their book will equip you to
Your legacy is not defined by your parenting perfection but by your commitment to follow in the way of Jesus and to trust His Spirit to cultivate the seeds you’re diligently planting throughout your children’s lives. Trust that He will meet you in these pages―and that He will transform your hearts and home.

Hosts Sarah Humphrey and Mike Nawrocki talk to co-authors Bob Smiley and Jesse Florea about their new book Average Boy's Above Average Summer.
Average Boy is here to make you laugh and encourage you in your faith!
The Average Boy series features humorous writing and whimsical illustrations to help readers embrace the idea that life isn’t always about being the smartest, most athletic, or best-looking kid in the neighborhood. Faith, family, and friends are far more valuable than being perceived as cool.
What happens when “Average Boy” Bob Smiley gets to the end of an above-average school year? Why, it’s time for an above-average summer, of course! If things go according to plan―and Average Boy always has lots of plans―then this summer will be his best one ever.
You see, Average Boy isn’t going to sleep in until noon this summer―at least not every day. No, he has big goals for the next few months. This summer is when Average Boy will finally build that tree house he’s been planning with his best friend, Billy. This summer is when he will brush his teeth every morning (as soon as he finds his toothbrush). And this summer he’s setting a goal to invite everyone in town to church.
There will be challenges along the way―challenges like Donny the school bully, or Sarah and Everley, who always seem to have water balloons in hand. But his biggest challenge this summer is the Huge Hairy Hisser, who lurks in the woods behind Average Boy’s house and seems determined to ruin his tree house-building plans.
It will definitely be a summer to remember!

This week hosts Mike Nawrocki and Sarah Humphrey interview author Sandra Stanley about her new book, written with husband Andy, Parenting: Getting it Right.
Am I getting parenting right? Most parents at all stages find themselves asking this question.
Whether you’re sleep-deprived with a colicky newborn or navigating the emotional roller coaster of a teenager, parenting has its lows and highs, its confusion and clarity, its big blowups
and small victories. And no matter our family’s makeup or our children’s personalities, many of us experience anxiety over our children’s futures and often fear making a mistake.
Andy and Sandra Stanley are no strangers to this feeling. As parents of three grown children and cofounders of North Point Ministries, the Stanleys have spent decades teaching and
learning. They’ve counseled families, mentored others, and learned from mentors of their own, all while leading one of the largest churches in the country.
In Parenting: Getting It Right (Zondervan Books; January 17, 2023), Andy and Sandra combine their experience and wisdom into a guide that helps readers understand and live by essential
parenting principles.

This week hosts Mike Nawrocki and Sarah Humphrey talk with author Karen Stubbs about her ministry, Birds on a Wire Moms.
Karen Stubbs is an author, speaker, and mom to four adult children. In 2011, she founded Birds on a Wire Moms, a ministry created to equip women with practical and Biblical truth. Early on in her marriage, Karen’s husband Greg served as a fighter pilot in the Navy. It was during those tough early years, while Greg served overseas during Desert Storm, that Karen grew in her reliance on God and gained a heart for teaching biblical truths to women. Full of practical advice and engaging stories from her own walk with the Lord, Karen Stubbs is passionate about challenging women to live out the truth of God’s Word in their everyday lives.
Birds on a Wire Moms
As moms, we constantly serve our families. We cook, we clean and we spend hours of our life in the carpool line. We stay up at night thinking, praying and, if we’re being honest, worrying
about our children’s well being. Our plates are full and our days are short.
There’s nothing we want more than to love and nurture our children, but we don’t always feel encouraged or equipped to do all that comes with the job. Often times, we feel alone. That’s
why Karen Stubbs created Birds on a Wire in 2011. Birds on a Wire is a ministry that provides Godly, practical advice so you’ll feel celebrated, encouraged and equipped to parent with confidence.
What started as a group of eight moms meeting in Karen’s basement has grown into an international ministry with thousands of moms all over the world. Birds on a Wire supports moms through the weekly podcast, Wire Talk, as well as small group studies available through Right Now Media and live speaking engagements all across the U.S.
Birds on a Wire Moms is for all moms. Moms who work out of the house or in the house. Moms who have a newborn to moms who are empty nesters. No matter where you are in the journey of motherhood, Birds on a Wire Moms is here to encourage and equip you.

Mike and Sarah catch up with author Jess Corban this week to talk about her debut novel, A Gentle Tyranny.
What if women unraveled the evils of patriarchy?
With men safely "gentled" in a worldwide Liberation, the matriarchy of Nedé has risen from the ashes. Seventeen-year-old Reina Pierce has never given a thought to the Brutes of old. Itching to escape her mother's finca--and desperate to keep her training and forbidden friendship a secret--her greatest worry is which Destiny she'll choose on her next birthday. But when she's selected as a candidate for the Succession instead, competing to become Nedé's ninth Matriarch, she discovers their Eden has come at a cost she's not sure she's willing to pay.
Jess Corban's debut novel presents a new twist to the dystopian genre, delivering heart-pounding action, thought-provoking revelations, and a setting as lush as the jungles of Central America.
Jess Corban graduated from college with a degree in communications and, perhaps more instructive, thirteen stamps in her passport. After college, a chance interview at a small publisher for an even smaller position sparked a love for writing that turned into twelve nonfiction books (under various pseudonyms). Her debut novel, A Gentle Tyranny, was nominated for a Christy Award. She continues to write across genres from her home on the central coast of California. Connect with Jess at JessCorban.com.

This week hosts Mike Nawrocki and Sarah Humphrey talk with author Alyssa Clements about her new book The Size of Everything.
God created an amazing universe! He designed and spoke into existence big things and small things and things in between, and all of it is meant to point back to him. The Size of Everything compares by size different parts of God’s creation with the aim of inspiring young readers to praise God for his power and creativity. It also highlights people as God’s most special creation and helps children see God’s love for them. The format of this book is unique in that it starts in the middle. As readers flip the pages to the left, they explore objects that get smaller and smaller. As readers flip the pages to the right, objects get bigger and bigger. From
quarks to poison dart frogs to redwood trees to the Milky Way galaxy, readers will be fascinated as they learn about God and his incredible world.
Alyssa Clements is a third-grade teacher turned book editor who loves learning about the fascinating world God has created and exploring how it all points to him. Alyssa lives in West Chicago, Illinois, with her husband, Forrest, and her two wonderfully curious children.

So daily sing your songs of praise, and pray your daily prayers. Keep looking with your HEART—you’ll see! God’s working everywhere.
He Is There is a creative, poetic, and interactive book that helps kids learn about the invisible but surprising presence of God. We can’t see God with our physical eyes, but He Is There uses poetry and flashlight fun to help kids look for the hand of God in creation and in their daily lives. This is also a fun way for parents and kids to calm down, connect, and have spiritual conversations before bedtime, story time, or anytime.
This book affirms the biblical truths of God’s sometimes seemingly hidden presence, his friendship, and his care in a creative and engaging way. We hope that the fun and novel storytelling format will lead to crossover appeal.
For over 15 years, Audra Haney has written and produced quality content for a wide range of audiences across the globe, including the International Mission Board and the Christian Broadcasting Network. However, after welcoming her first child in 2014 and navigating the new (and sometimes choppy) waters of parenting, Audra decided to combine her media-life and mom-life to reach out to her favorite audience yet: expecting and new parents. She does so as the writer, host, and producer of the popular 5
Minute Mom Podcast.
Audra and her husband, Cory, live in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he serves as a mission’s pastor. They are parents to two daughters, Norah and Lydia.

D. J. Williams’s suspenseful, page-turning style whisks readers into a wildly exciting, supernatural adventure that grabs hold of the imagination and never lets go. As Jack races to collect ancient artifacts critical to the survival of the world, readers are transported to incredible locales across Asia, including the lush jungles of the Philippines and the high-energy streets of Hong Kong. Themes of addiction, revenge, faith, and friendship emerge as Jack battles literal and psychological demons, and even his own friends and family members, on his quest to thwart the forces of evil.

The Training Young Hearts series from Abbey Wedgeworth encourages positive behavior for toddlers by holding out a model for grace based obedience— encouraging kids to run to Jesus with feelings of guilt and shame and to look to the Holy Spirit for help to use their bodies as God intended. This week co-hosts Mike Nawrocki and Sarah Humphrey talk to author Linda McKillop about her new middle grade novel, Hotel Oscar Mike Echo.
Home isn’t always what we dream it will be.
Eleven-year-old Sierra just wants a normal life. After her military mother returns from the war overseas, the two hop from home to homelessness while Sierra tries to help her mom through the throes of PTSD.
When they end up at a shelter for women and children, Sierra is even more aware of what her life is not. The kind couple who run the shelter, Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin, attempt to show her parental love as she faces the uncertainties of her mom’s emotional health and the challenges of being the brand-new poor kid in middle school. The longer she stays at the shelter, the more Sierra realizes she may have to face an impossible choice as she redefines home.
This middle-grade novel offers a compassionate look at poverty, homelessness, and hope. Readers walk alongside brave Sierra as she holds on to a promise she believes God gave her: that one day she will have a real home. But what if that promise looks far different than she has ever dreamed?
Linda MacKillop writes stories for both adults and kids. She and her husband, Bill, raised four sons in a book- filled home with nightly read-aloud time. Co-hosts Sarah Humphrey and Mike Nawrocki talk with author Hannah Anderson this week about her book, The World God Made.
God gives us all the earth and calls it home.
Celebrating the wonders of nature, this retelling of Psalm 104 invites you to enjoy and explore the world God made. Moving from one feature of the natural world to the next—from the sky and earth to the animals and oceans—the book’s lyrical language introduces questions from a child’s view. What about when strong winds blow? When birds fly far away? When the night is long? Each uncertainty is met with a truth about God’s character to comfort children and give them the confidence they need to explore the world around them.
Hannah Anderson’s stirring words are joined by Nathan Anderson’s soft, realistic watercolors. Together they have created a book with a timeless aesthetic and readability, one that will resonate with families who celebrate the beauty of nature and the wisdom that comes from the world God made.

Hosts Mike Nawrocki and Sarah Parker talk with the married writing and illustrating team, Jack and Liz Hagler this week about their new books (and series), Patrick Wigglesworth's Bizarre Bible Adventures Over My Head and Trick Times.
Patrick Wigglesworth’s Bizarre Bible Adventures is a series of hilarious comic journals for preteens. Readers will follow 10-year-old Patrick as he draws silly comics about his weird life. Just how weird is Patrick’s life? It’s so weird that Patrick gets yanked out of his room and into the Bible! In each book, Patrick meets a different Bible character who acts as a tour guide through a portion of the Bible. For example, in this first book, Patrick meets Moses, who leads him on a journey through biblical events from Genesis to Deuteronomy. In his journal, Patrick records all of his bizarre Bible adventures (BBAs for short). Most of the journal covers Patrick’s weird daily life entries with flashbacks to a relevant Bible adventure. Of course, this journal has to be kept secret, as he’s convinced everyone would think he was crazy! To be clear, Patrick’s journal does NOT tell the real Bible stories. It’s about his Bible adventures. This is not a Bible storybook but rather a creative, humorous kid adventure that also teaches preteens about the Bible.
Jack Hagler is a pastor, teacher, executive coach, engineer, senior project manager, homeschool principal, and children’s book author with his wife of 38 years, Liz Hagler. Jack received his MDiv from Western Seminary and loves to help kids discover God’s goodness in every book of the Bible.

Co-hosts Mike Nawrocki and Sarah Humphrey talk this week with author Hunter Beless about her new book, Amy Carmichael: The Brown-Eyed Girl Who Learned to Pray.

This beautiful hardback book features beautiful illustrations and extra facts in the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos.

This week hosts Mike Nawrocki and Sarah Humphrey talk with author Kathleen Long Bostrom about her new book, Since the Baby Came: A Sibling's Learning-to-Love Story in 16 Poems.
This charming, playful story-in-verse introduces children to a variety of different poetic forms while walking them through all the twists and turns of welcoming a new baby into the family.
Mama is having a baby.
Everything’s starting to change.
God, can you tell me what happened?
Life is becoming so strange.
Since the Baby Came offers a unique take on a timeless topic. The heartfelt and humorous drama unfolds completely in verse, addressing the full range of emotions a young child experiences when a new baby joins the family—from surprise and confusion to feelings of neglect and jealousy to wholehearted tenderness and affection. The book also introduces young children to the playfulness and fun of various forms of poetry, from senryu to villanelle.
Look out! It’s a diaper volcano!
Forgive me for being abrupt.
There isn’t much time to explain—OH!
That thing is about to erupt!
This week Mike and Sarah interview author Laura Wifler about her new book, Like Me: A Story About Disability and Discovering God's Image in Every Person.
This children’s picture book follows a sibling of a child with a disability as they go through their day. A simple story with an important message, Like Me helps kids recognize the many similarities they share with disabled kids and model a loving and understanding approach to the differences.
“God made you, God loves you, God is kind to you.”
It can be hard for children to take those three life-changing truths into their hearts and treat others with love and understanding, especially when they encounter those whose needs differ drastically from theirs.
Through a sibling’s eyes, young readers will tag along on a day of a child with a disability. As the two siblings play with friends, go to therapy, and spend time with family, relatable comparisons will help children understand a different type of family life, building empathy for children with disabilities along the way.
Like Me opens the door to meaningful talks with your child about empathy, compassion, diversity, and God’s love for them and others.
Laura Wifler is the cofounder of Risen Motherhood, the executive director and cohost of the podcast, and coauthor of Risen Motherhood: Gospel Hope for Everyday Moments. Laura, her husband and her three children live in central Iowa.
This week on The Bible for Kids podcast we have one for all the moms out there! Mike talks with co-host and author Sarah Humphrey about her new book, 40 Days to a Joyful Motherhood.

This week Mike and Sarah talk with author Kathleen Davis about her books Feathers From Above and Brave.
A feather may be found by your bed, near the couch, in the car, or even floating in the air. Feathers are often found randomly, but may not be random at all. "Feathers From Above," is a rhyming children's book that discusses how feathers fall directly from the wings of our very own Guardian Angels. These Angels are sent from God to watch over us throughout our lives, and their feathers are reminders that we have nothing to fear.
"Feathers From Above," was inspired by Kathleen's children. They would find feathers and tell her that their Guardian Angel must have paid them a visit. She knew right away that this would be the framework for her next book.
Kathleen is hoping to encourage children to be brave, know that they are loved, and remember that God is with them through good situations and bad.
Kathleen Davis is a retired teacher, wife, and mother of two. She has her masters in Elementary Education and spent her career searching for and reading good children’s books to her students. She believes that books not only provide a fountain of information, but are also a way to enter a new world and completely change a perspective. Plus, books are just good ol’ fun. See her website at kathleendavisbooks.com
This week Mike and Sarah talk with author Mitalia Perkins about her new book The Story of Us.
Acclaimed author Mitali Perkins grew up loving nature. As her family moved often, she learned to appreciate the beauty and variety of the natural settings of her homes in Ghana, Cameroon, London, New York, and Mexico. It wasn’t until age 12 or 13 that she became aware of natural disasters, and realized that the elements–fire, water, air, and earth, can also be terrifying.
Decades later, Perkins’ close friend lost her home in the Woolsey/Malibu fire in 2018. The loss brought back her childhood questions. Why are we, as humans, at war with the elements? Why do we neglect the care of them—the very essence of ourselves and the home God created for us? For comfort, Perkins turned to writing.
The result was The Story of Us, a poem-turned-picture-book that tells the biblical redemption story in a new way, by centering the four elements: air, water, earth, and fire. At the beginning of all things, Creator uses the elements to make humans. When creation falls into chaos—resulting in greed, war, and devastation—Redeemer comes as a baby, growing up to use air, water, earth, and fire in seemingly small ways to heal and serve. Next, Restorer arrives, calling us to care for the elements as we wait for the day when lasting peace will come between them and us.
Perkins’ lyrical message is brought to life by the luminous art of illustrator team Kevin and Kristen Howdeshell. It’s a thought-provoking work that invites readers young and old to ponder our own relationship to nature and the Divine.
This week Mike and Sarah catch up with author Lauren Chandler to talk bout her book Praise Him!
Remember this, a simple song, and lift your voice and praise!
In this beautifully illustrated board book, Lauren Chandler’s lyrical lines encourage us that in the day or in the night, wherever we go, we can praise God continually.
From page to page, follow a child through her day as she goes from sunny morning to stormy afternoon and then shadowy night. Be reminded that God is always there with us, even when days are hard, and that we need only simple words to praise Him.
Lauren Chandler is passionate about writing, music, and leading worship at her home congregation, The Village Church, and across the country. She is the author of two Bible studies, including With Us in the Wilderness, and two other books including one for children: Goodbye to Goodbyes. Lauren and her husband, pastor Matt Chandler, live with their three children in Flower Mound, Texas.

This week Mike and Sarah spend time talking with author Andrew Wilson about his new book, The Boy from the House of Bread.
With lyrical rhyme and quirky illustrations, The Boy from the House of Bread shares the story of Jesus’ ministry in a compelling way, through the eyes and voice of an African boy. Walk with Alex through his bustling first-century world as he watches Jesus multiply bread and hears Him tell stories about loaves and call Himself the life-giving Bread. This recurring symbol fascinates both Alex and the reader, leaving children ages 4 to 8 (and the adults who read with them) thinking differently about not only the bread on their plates but the Man who makes miracles happen.
Andrew Wilson is the teaching pastor at King’s Church London and the author of Sophie and the Heidelberg Cat. He has three children named Zeke, Anna, and Sam, and he has written a number of other books—but none of them have pictures.

This week Mike and Sarah talk with authors Dr. Josh and Christi Straub about their latest book, What Do I Do With Anger?
Anger can show you what's deep in your heart.
Naming that feeling can bring a fresh start.
Alex is angry. His teammate won't pass him the soccer ball, no matter how often he calls for it, which is not fair! Thankfully, Coach Ryan knows how to tame the "fireballs of anger" that rise inside us, and he helps Alex do just that.
With this relatable story, authors Dr. Josh and Christi Straub show how anger is a secondary emotion, covering up deeper feelings such as embarrassment, betrayal, grief, or fear. Alex's story offers practical and biblical wisdom for how to help children manage their anger while uncovering the emotion behind it.
Dr. Josh And Christi Straub are speakers, authors and marriage and leadership coaches. Together, they lead Famous at Home, an organization equipping families and leaders to be famous at home, so
they can thrive on their stage.
Both Fellows of the Townsend Institute for Leadership and Counseling, together they host the weekly “Famous at Home” podcast, write children’s books, including “What Am I Feeling?,” “What Do I Do with Worry?” and “25 Days of the Christmas Story.” Josh and Christi also recently released a new book called “Famous at Home: 7 Decisions for Putting Your Family Center Stage in a World Competing for Your Time, Attention, and Identity.”
Josh and Christi love spending time on the lake with their three sweet kids, Landon, Kennedy and Micah, and their feisty goldendoodle, Copper.
This week Sarah and Mike talk with Evan Barber of Axis about navigating conversations with teens!
Since 2007, Axis has helped hundreds of thousands of parents navigate conversations with their teens, creating resources to help bridge the gap between the generations. Evan leads a team of gospel-minded researchers, writers, speakers, and content creators, leveraging pop culture to help parents show teens how faith is relevant to every aspect of their lives. For three years he traveled with Axis Live teams, talking with Gen Z directly about worldview and pop culture, before becoming a curriculum writer and producer for content on mental health, relationships, social media, and spiritual formation. This week Mike and Sarah talk with singer-songwriter and now author Yancy, about unlocking the power of discipling kids in worship in her new book, Sweet Sound: The Power of Discipling Kids in Worship.
STOP just doing songs and START leading worship by making disciples who know what it means to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth.
No matter our age, each one of us was designed to praise, and for our praise to shift the atmosphere and usher in freedom and deliverance. Our worship is a sacrifice unto the Lord-this includes the praises of children. It's powerful. It's beautiful. It's sweet. Can you imagine children singing out, with their whole hearts, praises to their King? It's quite possibly the sweetest sound you will ever hear! It matters. Jesus himself said, "From the lips of children and infants, you, Lord, have called forth your praise." (Matthew 21:16)
This book is full of prophetic, practical, and power-filled truth. It will change the way you view kids worship, as well as your own ability to lead. By using examples from the life of King David, as well as her own personal experiences, Yancy is purposed to empower you to raise up kids who desire to live a life of worship on a daily basis, not only on Sundays. This is about their future. Are you ready to be a part of that?
Yancy is a worship leader, songwriter and producer of hundreds of songs that make Jesus loud. Her Dove Award winning music is all the things kids love and everything adults value. She is a powerhouse at leading and teaching kids from birth to preteen how to worship, and creates popular worship resources for churches and homes around the world. Yancy is a passionate advocate of raising disciples to worship. She recently authored the book “Sweet Sound: The Power of Discipling Kids in Worship”. Because of her passion to serve the Church she created “Heartbeat”, a curriculum to teach kids the heart of worship. With a family legacy of children’s ministry, her authority and PK perspective help encourage and champion the Kidmin community that the seeds they are planting will reap a harvest that will go on to affect families for generations. Yancy lives with her husband and two sons in Nashville, TN.

For women who are longing to deepen their faith
Explores popular Bible themes to encourage you to participate in spiritual development
Laura L. Smith has been searching her whole life for beauty. Not in the world—there’s plenty of that—in the crimson of a cardinal’s feather, in the sound of waves crashing along a shore, in the melody of a Beatles’ ballad, or in a Chagall stained glass window. The world is filled with beauty, but for her that was another story. It took her years to discover her true beauty, to fully grasp she is made in the image of her Creator, and therefore, she is beautiful. The incredible thing is…so are you. You were marvelously made by God to inspire awe. No matter what the world tries to tell you, no matter what you try to tell yourself. No one can rob you of the incredible true identity God instilled in you. Smith tells stories (through books, blogs, and speaking) in hopes of helping you discover what took her so long to see: your beautiful true reflection in Christ. Smith lives in the college town of Oxford, Ohio with her husband and four kids.

This week co-hosts Amy Parker and Mike Nawrocki chat (and sing) with author Susan Burritt about her new book SOS GOD!
SOS GOD!’s humorous poems inspire children to pray, showing them they don’t need fancy words to talk to God. They can speak to Him like a BFF!! Each poem encourages kids to have a personal relationship with the Lord, reassuring them of His love, no matter what! They’ll learn to be grateful for the joys in their lives, and they’ll discover they can ask God for help with whatever ails them!
The poems are narrated in a child’s voice, with Bible scriptures listed by each one, so parents can use the book as a devotional. It is unique in its amusing child narration and its boldness to talk to a loving God about anything and everything.
Children will face fear with: “The Lord is my light and the One who saves me. So why should I fear anyone? The Lord protects my life. So why should I be afraid?” Psalm 27: 1 ICB
They’ll conquer low self-esteem, proclaiming: “I praise you because you made me in an amazing and wonderful way. What you have done is wonderful. I know this very well.” Psalm 139:14 ICB
They’ll rejoice in God’s goodness, declaring: “God, your love is so precious! You protect people as a bird protects her young under her wings. They eat the rich food in your house. You let them drink from your river of pleasure.” Psalm 36:7-8 ICB
There are also activity sheets at the end for children to interact with the Bible. SOS GOD! is the perfect book to draw children (and adults) closer to God.
Susan C. Burritt was born in Rochester, New York. Facing difficulties in childhood, she discovered reading took her to new and exciting worlds! Books became her greatest pleasure and escape. She moved to Los Angeles to become a famous movie star! When that didn’t happen, she made use of her Masters in Education. She teaches and motivates youth at a private learning center in Los Angeles, and at charter schools throughout the Los Angeles area. Susan wrote SOS GOD! to inspire children to talk to God about everything because she firmly believes that the most powerful solution to problems is receiving God’s help through prayer.

Parents are in a unique position to help their kids "lighten the load" along the way. BAGS helps parents become aware of the specific bags kids tend to pack as they grow up, how these bags tend to get packed, and the long-lasting negative impacts they can have. Ask any 12-year-old kid to describe a hero, and you will get some of the following answers: a superstar athlete, a soldier on the front lines, or a guy in a cape who can jump over buildings.

The 90 devotions feature the qualities of Bible characters that made them heroic. From Moses to Esther to Jesus, kids will learn more about how these Bible people pleased God. This week Amy and Mike talk with author Dr Lucretia Berry about her new book Hues of You: An Activity Book for Learning About the Skin You Are In.
We live in a vibrant, colorful world, and though we enthusiastically teach our children the hues we find in nature and in the objects around us, we often find it difficult to teach them about the beauty of different skin tones.
Dr. Lucretia Berry, founder of Brownicity—a learning community dedicated to education and advocacy for antiracism—is often asked by parents, teachers, and caregivers how they can best approach this conversation with kids. In response, she created a fun and interactive tool that provides children and their adults a way to brave the shift from color blindness to color consciousness—HUES OF YOU: An Activity Book for Learning About the Skin You Are In (WaterBrook; on sale 1/4/22).
Filled with lively and bright full-color illustrations by Adia Carter, the book’s drawing and writing activities are divided into four main sections—Hues of You, Hues of Your Family, Hues of Your Ancestors, and Hues of Your Friends. Each page gives kids space to explore their identity in a variety of social contexts and to celebrate the diversity of skin tones in the world around them.
Adults who have felt hesitant or unprepared to talk with the children in their lives about skin tone, race, and ethnicity will find that Hues of You is the perfect starting point. With this engaging resource, they can help lay the groundwork for a more positive, affirming, and inclusive world.
