American Beauty came out in 1999 and clearly struck a chord with filmgoers. It became the talk of the nation and ended up winning 5 Oscars including best picture. 25 years later, do we all still feel the same way about it?  Are we still inspired by Ricky’s story about the plastic bag? Are we making mental notes about our own meaningless lives because of Lester’s commentary on suburbia and middle age? Or are we feeling slightly confused and wondering what we ever saw in this flick? Regardless, it’s still the 77th highest rated movie on IMDB, so it has to have something special going on, right?
