In episode 106, I interview portrait/realist painter David Kassan. I think David really represents the current generation of academic realist painters, not only in his mastery of the subject but also in his willingness to share his knowledge and easy going manner. Topics covered include: art school, painting portraits, his unusual choice of acrylic mirror as a surface to paint on, his preferred oil paints, how he prepares to paint a subject, inventing and creating the Parallel Palette, and plenty more! This was a very relaxed and interesting conversation and I really learned a lot about David's process among other things!
Note: I say that the interview is 2 hours but it was actually around 1 hr 40 minutes.
