This week I interview another one of my makeup effects industry pals, the two time Academy Award winning (“Bombshell” and “Darkest Hour”) Kazu Hiro! Kazu is widely regarded as one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) special makeup effects artists of our time. We talk about his childhood in Japan, breaking into the Japanese film industry, starting his own FX shop, working with Akira Kurosawa, coming to America, working for Rick Baker, working with Gary Oldman on “Darkest Hour”, working with Charlize Theron on “Bombshell”, working with a difficult Jim Carey on The Grinch and lots of other behind the scenes film stories. We also get into why he left the film industry and blew people’s minds with his incredible fine art sculptures, his artistic process, his experience working with galleries, his technical innovations in the field of hyper realistic sculpture, his return to the film industry and lots more! This is a truly great episode.
Interview starts around 09:57
