Join us for a detour from our usual Doctor Who highway as we steer the Campervan into new territory and talk about movies! Fear not though – Doctor Who is still at the heart of our conversation, and James, Brent and Michele make a point of (or couldn’t avoid) drawing parallels between the films and Doctor Who stories!
But first, we can’t resist talking about the airdate for Series 2 and well as the new trailer and casting announcements!
So sit back and enjoy a less Time-Lord orientated edition of the DWP!
Do let us know if you enjoy this slightly different episode – let us know by emailing [email protected], Tweeting us @thedrwhopodcast or find us on Facebook.
Enjoy!
Join Phil and James as they look back at the week Doctor Who crashed back into the headlines. The Sun ran a two-page feature about the show’s future (or alleged lack of it) which was picked up by other national newspapers and radio stations in the UK. How seriously should we take it?!
In much more upbeat news, Big Finish Productions announced that Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper are pairing up in some some brand new Ninth Doctor and Rose audio stories which is of course, FANTASTIC!
We are also very proud to bring you coverage of the latest Doctor Who proms! As the most musically gifted members of the DWP team, Michele and Brent review what can only be described as wonderful production that was performed at the Royal Albert Hall in Summer 2024 and televised just a couple of months ago over Christmas.

Not be left out of the party, Ian and Phil got together recently to share their predictions in terms of what will happen in the world of Doctor Who this year. Will they go for a low-bar, easy forecast, or will they push the boat (or Campervan) out this year? Tune into this minisode to find out!
The voices are the same but the podcast is different….. or something!
Join Drew, Brent, Michele and James in our annual tradition of reviewing a recently animated “missing” Doctor Who story. This time, it’s the turn of The Celestial Toymaker.
Who & Company is the wonderful podcast hosted by Brent and Drew that has it’s roots firmly in Doctor Who fandom, however the subject matter goes far beyond the confines of the Whoniverse. Once a year however, the parallel worlds of our two shows converge and the focus is on squarely on sixties Who.
W&C has a distinctly different tone to that of the DWP. It’s an easy listen, more laid back and less rushed. So pull up a lounger, grab a mug of hot chocolate, get comfy and listen to four friends chew the fat about a classic William Hartnell story in Episode 86 of Who & Company, also known as Special 34 of the DWP.
Enjoy the show!
Jump on board the Campervan as we celebrate fifty years of the Fourth Doctor! Yes, the beloved fourth incarnation of our favourite Time Lord first graced TV screens in December 1974 – and some of the DWP remember the early days when those now infamous teeth and curls first etched themselves onto fandom’s collective memory.
Join Michele and Ian as they steer the Campervan through a nostalgic celebration, taking Brent, James and Phil along for the ride. The scenic drive includes a fresh look at the fourth Doctor’s first television story, Robot, a review of the first story in Series One of his audio adventures from Big Finish Productions, Destination Nerva – and finally a chat about Seeds of Doom, the classic climax to Series 13.
Sit back and enjoy the phenomenon that is the Fourth Doctor, wonderfully played the indescribably brilliant Tom Baker.
Enjoy the show!
Happy New Year! It’s that time of year again where we relax and give ourselves permission to be completely wrong!
Join us for our annual predictions episode as Brent, James, Michele and Drew dig out the Campervan’s oh-so-reliable crystal ball and make carefully calculated predictions about what will come to pass in the Whoniverse in 2025. Tune in to find out!
Don’t forget to let us know what YOU think will happen in 2025 – will the TARDIS turn into a turnip? Will the Doctor finally travel the universe with a cabbage as a companion?! And just what is it about vegetables in this post?! I must be hungry. What are you having for dinner?

Rest in Peace William, and thank you for the unforgettable memories. Neither you or your contribution to Doctor Who will be forgotten. We are Most Grateful.

Then Ian and Michele travel back in time to review the first-ever short trip from Big Finish, Rise and Fall. Finally, the happy campers finish with a look at your latest feedback, including more discussion of the new Big Finish Range Dark Gallifrey. Keep the feedback coming in, email us at [email protected], on X or on Facebook. You can also join out Facebook group and join in the conversations our listeners have already started.

You remain of course, Most Welcome!
It’s that time of year once again when the ol’ DWP Campervan occupies the same time/spacial coordinates as the snazzy new Who & Companymobile. Join Drew and Brent as they invite Michele and James into their more sedate world of Doctor Who fandom where companionship and camaraderie are celebrated!
As is usual for January, the team take a look at the most recent animation of a missing story. This year, The Underwater Menace is put under the microscope.

Happy New Year!
It’s our first episode of 2024! And it’s not even February yet! Join us for our annual predictions episode as Brent, James, Michele and Ian dig out the Campervan’s oh-so-reliable crystal ball and make carefully calculated predictions about what will come to pass in the Whoniverse in 2024. But that’s not before the team turn the clock back twelve months and review the predictions Michele, Drew, Phil and James made in Episode 351 in 2023! Just how many (few) did they get right? Tune in to find out!
Don’t forget to let us know what YOU think will happen in 2024 – will the TARDIS turn into a turnip? Will the Doctor finally travel the universe with a cabbage as a companion?! And just what is it about vegetables in this post?! I must be hungry. What are you having for dinner?

Join Ian, Phil and James as they preview The Church on Ruby Road, the next brand new episode of Doctor Who to hit your telly-screens on Christmas Day! Completely spolier-free – not through choice, but because once again the Campervan dwellers know nothing about the episode! Any speculation is purely that – if it happens to be right then that’s pure coincidence!
We’ll be back on Boxing Day with our review of the Christmas Special – we thought we’d take some time before we record on this occasion. Recording and editing a podcast on Christmas Day is unlikely to result in a Merry Christmas for the DWP hosts!
Enjoy the show – and Merry Christmas!
No new Doctor Who on our screens this weekend! How are you coping?! The sense of loss is palpable here in the campervan, so Michele, Ian and James get together over a mug of Horlicks and remissness about the three celebratory episodes we’ve enjoyed over the last month.
What do they think of bi-regeneration after the twist on regeneration was introduced to Doctor Who fans and the wider viewing public a week ago? Was the arrival of the 15th Doctor 20 minutes earlier than anticipated overshadowed by the 14th not wanting to go one last time?! And which DWP host is most likely to be found in the Campervan’s vegetable patch shooting moles?! Tune in to fine out. 🙂
We’ll be back mid-week with a preview of this year’s Christmas Special, The Church of Ruby Road. Phew, it’s all go here in the campervan! Well, it would be if there wasn’t a mole stuck in the exhaust pipe.

We’ll be back shortly to wrap up our coverage of the sixtieth anniversary specials – before we head long into Christmas – more Ncuti, goblins and a brand new companion named Ruby!
Enjoy the show.
Join Ian and Drew as they take the Campervan out for a midweek spin and reflect on last weekend’s brand new episode of Doctor Who.

Join Leeson and JNT as they bring you Part 4 of Radio Leeson and their thoughts on Chapter Four of Flux, Village of the Angels. And many other things too as it turns out! JNT tackles the first couple of questions he’s received (get yours to him at [email protected] with AskJNT in the subject field) – and he then performs a guitar medley of his ol’ man’s favourite songs. No, we’re not sure why either, but we understand he’s taking requests.
Sanity returns in the form of Phil and Scott – and Michele, Brent, Drew and Ian drop by too. In fact, all the DWP hosts are on this one, apart from James, who has become obsessed with looking for songs with lyrics relevant to Doctor Who stories. Please send help.
We hope you enjoy the show. Please let us know you think, particularly of Ian’s Kooky Theory of the Week!! Or is it all that kooky after all?! Let us know! Email us [email protected], get in touch with us on Twitter or search us up on Facebook.

Join the DWP RV as we go stateside with Brent and Drew as they (or one them) takes the wheel. It appears however, they didn’t realise James was still in the back fixing the lock on the chemical toilet Leeson broke – so he’s along for the ride as well. Along the way, they find the time to review Chapter 3 of Flux – Once, Upon Time.
What did you think?! We want to hear from you! Send in your thoughts and feedback (audio or written) and we’ll discuss on an upcoming episode. Email us at [email protected], get in touch on Twitter or search for us on Facebook.

We want to hear from you too! Send in your thoughts and feedback (audio or written) to the campervan and we’ll discuss them on an upcoming episode. Email us at [email protected], get in touch on Twitter or search for us on Facebook.
Keep an eye on the feed midweek for the resolution of the most important cliffhanger this season – will Leeson manage to find his way out of the campervan’s chemical loo?! Oooh, the tension!
Enjoy the show!
Our third Episode in eight days?! Just what is going on! Phil and James are joined by Jean and Adam of Staggering Stories fame as they record outside the BFI on the South Bank of the Thames. This afternoon, the BFI screened the soon-to-be-released-on animated of version of Galaxy 4.
We’ll be back shortly (within the next couple of days) with our review of Chapter 2 of Flux, War of the Sontarans!
Enjoy the show!
Doctor Who is not the only thing that’s returned this week – we are proud to present the return of the rather lovely LEESON FISCHER to the DWP Campervan to share his thoughts (and he does have thoughts) about The Halloween Apocalypse.
Not wishing to miss out, Phil returns with a very special guest reviewer – and Drew, Ian and Brent also get in on the action. So yes dear listener, that’s SIX reviewers on the DWP this week – so far!
Don’t forget to get in touch to let us know what you thought of the episode – send an email to us at [email protected]! We’ll be back next week to review Chapter 2 of Flux – War of the Sontarans.
Enjoy the show!
It’s BACK! Doctor Who is back on our tellyboxes in Chapter 1 of the six-episode epic, FLUX. Join Phil and James in the campervan for their hot-take on Episode 1, The Halloween Apocalypse!

Join Phil and James as they preview the now imminent Series 13 – Chapter 1 of Flux will be on our telly boxes in a week’s time!
They also attempt to catch up on all the Who news/goings-on in Whodom that happened straight after the release of the last DWP! So the trailer for Flux, the mysterious materialisation/re-matarialisation of the BBC’s Doctor Who social media channels – and the announcement that Classic Series 17 will be the next to be given the bluray treatment are all covered here. Surely nothing else can be announced? Episode titles for Flux perhaps?! NAH!!!
We’ll be back as soon as possible after Flux airs next Sunday – enjoy the show but more importantly, enjoy Doctor Who being back on the telly!
In another timey-wimey epsiode of the DWP, Michele, James, Phil and Ian join you for an hour’s amble through the various eras of Doctor Who. Timey-wimey you say? Well yes – this was recorded before Russell T Davies played HAVOC with our scheduling, so it misses the recent Series 13 and the latest Blu Ray announcements This will be remedied shortly!
We do however cover the new Galaxy Four animation and the wonderful news that Christopher Eccleston is returning to Big Finish for another series of Ninth Doctor audio adventures.
The lions share of this episode however covers The Romans which Phil, Ian and James discuss – and then we dive into some Big Finish goodness as James and Michele review the recent Sixth Doctor release, The Eleven. If all that temporal confusion and strange numbering doesn’t confuse you, nothing will!
We will be back shortly with our preview of Season 13 which will be back on our telly boxes in just a couple of weeks.
Enjoy the show!
Join James and Drew as they try to remember they are supposed to be talking about how the news that Jodie Whittaker and Chis Chibnall are moving on has been received in the United States of America. However, they end up going off on all kind of geeky-tangents!
PLEASE NOTE this Episode was recorded the day BEFORE the news broke that Russell T Davies is returning to the show. If you’re after the Campervan’s take on that development, it’s already online here! Go grab! But make sure you come back for this one too – it’s still contains audio-gold!
Episode 326 will be online next week, a little later than planned given the quite frankly extraordinary events of the last ten days!
Enjoy the show.
Join Ian and James in the campervan as they attempt to process the news that former showrunner, Russell T Davies will take over from Chris Chibnall when he leaves Doctor Who with Jodie Whittaker in 2022.
We’ll be back with a more considered reaction shortly – let us know what you think and we’ll include your thoughts in the show! Send us an MP3 (no more than two mins) or jot your thoughts down in an email and send it to us at [email protected]!
Enjoy the show!
Michele and James are back to bring you the latest episode of the DWP. They are joined early on by Drew and Ian for the latest installment of Nine Lives which has reached Episode 9 of Series 1, Boom Town.
Michele then goes through her list of Doctor Who media that she has been reading, watching and listening to – James joins her in discussing The Gunfighters, Twice Upon a Time followed by the rather wonder Shooting Scripts book that complements both the 2005 Series and our Nine Lives saga alike. And of course, what podcast would be complete without a quick round up on the latest following the (not so recent) news that Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall will leaving Doctor Who next year?!
As always, we’d love to hear from you. Send in your thoughts and feedback (audio or written) on anything Who or DWP related and we’ll discuss on an upcoming episode. Email us at [email protected], get in touch on Twitter or search for us on Facebook.
Enjoy the show.

Join James and Phil as they discuss the (not so) recent news that Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall are to leave Doctor Who in 2022 – a mere year before the show’s sixtieth anniversary! The discussion reaches far and wide and ventures into uncharted parts of the vortex as far as the Campervan is concerned. Intrigued? Tune in!
Why not join in the conversation?! We always love hearing from listeners and we’re very keen to hear what you make of the news.

We’ll be back shortly with Episode 325!
Enjoy the show.
Join Michele, James and Brent for the latest skit around the Whoniverse.
This time around James and Michele discuss The End of the Beginning (the final play in Big Finish‘s long running Monthly Range) just before Brent returns to the campervan in his swimming shorts, Hawaiian shirt and a sunhat for his session on the DWP’s very own desert island.
As always, we’d love to hear from you. Send in your thoughts and feedback (audio or written) on anything Who or DWP related and we’ll discuss on an upcoming episode. Email us at [email protected], get in touch on Twitter or search for us on Facebook.
Enjoy the show, and we’ll be back next month!
Join James and Phil as they discuss – nothing in particular! Yes, jump on board the Campervan as the chaps hit record and ramble on about the latest goings-on in the Whoniverse including the latest rumours and news, the recent screening of Dragonfire at the BFI and the delightful Season 8 blu ray box set. True to form however, it’s only a matter of time before conversation turns to Big Finish – who have been prolific in their release schedule over the last few months.
Drew and Michele drop in to discuss Full Fathom Five, a story from the Unbound range that features David Collings as the Doctor!
As always, we’d love to hear from you. Send in your thoughts and feedback (audio or written) on anything Who or DWP related and we’ll discuss on an upcoming episode. Email us at [email protected], get in touch on Twitter or search for us on Facebook.
Join us again next month for the return of Desert Island Who! What would YOU watch?!
Yes, he’s back! Christopher Eccleston has finally dusted off the ol’ leather jacket and returned to the role of Ninth Doctor, courtesy of Big Finish Productions. Join long term fans of Big Finish James, Ian and Michele as they talk about Ravages, the first Ninth Doctor box set of audio plays in the most spoiler-free way possible. Be warned – every fan’s spoiler threshold varies and whilst pains have been taken not to reveal story details, even the most minor point can spoil the enjoyment for some- so listening is ENTIRELY at your own risk! Gottit?! Fantastic! 🙂
Phil joins James later in the show to discuss how his (now finished) TARDIS-build! This conversation was recorded some time ago but did not make it onto a previous DWP for timing reasons. It is however, such a wonderful discussion and cements Phil’s status as uber-fan so profoundly that we just had to find a spot for it! You can also watch Phil talk about building his project in intricate detail on the Who’s He YouTube page!
As always, we’d love to hear from you! Send in your thoughts and feedback (audio or written) on anything Who or DWP related and we’ll discuss on an upcoming episode. Email us at [email protected], get in touch on Twitter or search for us on Facebook.
It’s another Special episode of the DWP! Join James and Michele as they go through the bulging DWP mailbag. Or e-mailbag. Or Direct Messages. Yes, listen to two elderly Who fans as they struggle to accurate define (or identify) modern methods of communication! However, they do have some success and spend an podcast discussing the thoughts and comments our wonderful listeners have shared with us about our recent Eighth Wonder mini-series, Jodie Whittaker’s most recent series, coping with lockdown and of course, Big Finish.
Why not join in?! We always love hearing from listeners. Send in your thoughts and feedback (audio or written) on anything Who or DWP related and we’ll discuss on an upcoming episode. Email us at [email protected], get in touch on Twitter or search for us on Facebook.
We’ll be back at the end of the month with Episode 322.
Enjoy the show.
Hot on the heels of Eighth Wonder earlier this month, Drew, James, Ian, Michele and Phil get together for another excursion in the DWP Campervan. Poor Brent is still convalescing after spending a week discussing retro-genitor particles! (The 25% discount off Dark Eyes 1 is still valid, but only until the end of April 2021!)
Firstly, James and Drew catch up and discuss Season Eight on blu-ray (or at least the parts James has seen to date), the lack of Daleks in Dalek Universe 1 and generally, how brilliant a job Big Finish are doing at keeping companions from the sixties-era alive in brand new stories.
Phil then joins Ian for the latest installment of Nine Lives where The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances are put under the microscope.
Last but not least, Michele speaks to James and Ian about a multi-Doctor story that brings the First and Second Doctors together in Daughter of the Gods.
All that plus – Drew and James critically analyse contributions to the world of singing……from John Barrowman and William Shatner. Oh dear.
As always, we’d love to hear from you! Send in your thoughts and feedback (audio or written) on anything Who or DWP related and we’ll discuss on an upcoming episode. Email us at [email protected], get in touch on Twitter or search for us on Facebook.

Join James and Phil as they chew over the recent release of Series 8 on blu ray! Which Series 8? The ORIGINAL, you might Say! The Third Doctor era is one many of the current Campervan Crew hold dear, so this latest set of stories gets quite a lot of DWP lurve!
Also, find out about an upcoming set of mini-DWPs, cryptically called Eighth Wonder! What could that possibly be about? Tune in to find out!
And then, find a deck chair, pull on your Hawaiian swimming togs, order a pina colada with a swirly straw and listen to James talk to Drew about his choices for the latest edition of Desert Island Who! The conversation reaches parts of fandom not usually covered by us on the DWP….!
As always, we’d like to hear from you! Send in your thoughts and feedback (audio or written) and we’ll discuss on a (now imminent) feedback edition of the DWP. We’ll be back in March with Episode 320 which will see the return of Desert Island Who and Who banter a-plenty!
Enjoy the show.
The voices are the same but the podcast is different….. or something! Join Drew, Brent, Michele and James in the now-annual tradition of beginning the New Year reviewing a recently animated classic Doctor Who story. This time, it’s the turn of The Faceless Ones.
Who & Company is a wonderful podcast hosted by Brent and Drew that has it’s roots firmly in Doctor Who fandom, however the subject matter of regular episodes goes far beyond the confines of the Whoniverse. Once a year however, the parallel worlds of the two shows converge and the focus is on squarely on classic Who.
W&C has a distinctly different tone to that of the DWP. It’s an easy listen, more laid back and less rushed. So pull up a lounger, grab a mug of coffee and get comfy and listen to four friends chew the fat about a classic Patrick Troughton story in Episode 49 of Who & Company, also known as Special 13 of the DWP.
Enjoy the show!
Happy New Year!
In a last minute change of plans, Ian and James talk about the annoucement that Series 24 is coming to Blu-ray! So lots of McCoy geekery – and James gets to talk about Delta and the Bannerman *again*!
Then, in the first of a new feature, conversation turns to a classic story that Ian saw for the first time just last week. Yes, it turns out dear listeners, that some of the Campervan Crew have not seen every classic story. Can you believe it?! Upon learning this frankly scandalous news, James embarked on a mission to fill in the gaping chasms in his co-presenter’s fandom as quickly as possible. The first story under the microscope is……well, that would be telling! But the coverart might give you hint. Expect to travel back in time nearly 60 years – or 960 years, depending on your perspective. Time is relative you know!
We’ll be back with Episode 319 in February for the delayed return of our predictions show – when we try to guess what will happen in the Whoniverse over the coming year. What do YOU think will happen?! Get in touch to let us know by emailing us at f[email protected], tweeting us on Twitter or joining us on our Facebook page.
Enjoy the show.
It’s the second part of or review of this year’s festive special, Revolution of the Daleks! Join Brent, Drew and Michele as the US Campervan (is that an RV?!) team get together for a sensible, measured, considered discussion.
They delve into the DWP mailbag and discuss what YOU thought of the story too! It’s always interesting to hear from our wonderful listeners!
The crew also discuss John Bishop’s casting as Dan (the man with campervan) and the recent story reported by The Mirror about the future of our little ol’ show.
We’ll be back with Episode 318 at the end of the month – when it’s the return of our predictions show! Yes, your opportunity to join us as we look into the DWP crystal ball and make wild guesses about what will happen in the Whoniverse in 2021!
As always, you can get in touch with us using the camperan’s trill phone – or by emailing us at [email protected], tweeting us on Twitter or joining us on our Facebook page.
Enjoy the show!
Join Ian, James and Phil for their hot-take on this years’ festive edition of Doctor Who, Revolution of the Daleks!

Join Phil, Michele and James as they pull the DWP campervan into the last layby/rest-area (delete as applicable) before the 2020 exit! What’s on the agenda? Well, a preview of the Revolution of the Daleks – but after that, who knows?! WHO KNOWS?! Anything is game in this bonus episode.
Enjoy Revolution of the Daleks on New Year’s Day – and join us for Episode 316 when we will let you know what we think of it! Don’t forget to us know what YOU think of it – [email protected], on Twitter or find us on Facebook.
Have a great New Year and enjoy the show!
Merry Christmas! Campervans from both sides of the Atlantic park up alongside each other and celebrate Christmas in true panto style! James, Phil and Ian take a festive look at The Horns of Nimon whilst Brent, Michele and Drew discuss their favourite Christmas editions of our funny little show that has kept us all going throughout such an unusual year. 2020? It’s behind us! Oh yes it is! Well nearly, anyway.
And going one better than last year we have not one, but two – that’s right, TWO DWP quizzes! Not enough?! Well, howabout we through in a review of Big Finish‘s Doctor Who and The Pirates as well?!
So join the DWP crew for a truly swashbuckling, pantomimey christmas special edition of The Doctor Who Podcast. You remain of course, Most Welcome.
Merry Christmas!
It’s Episode 314 of The Doctor Who podcast! James, Phil and Michele are back for 85 mins of Who (oh my) Goodness.
James and Phil pick over the news (finally, we have Doctor Who News!) about the upcoming Christmas Special, Season 13 and Big Finish. We also take a squizz at the Eleventh Doctor and Jo Grant Short Trip story, The Infinite Today from Big Finish.
James and Michele then leave Phil on his own in the Caravan whilst they return to the DWP Desert Island to discuss…..well, you’ll just have to listen to find out, won’t you?!
Join us next month for Episode 315 where both the UK and US campervans get together in a single unique space-time event to celebrate a particularly pantomime-esque classic story. What could it be?! Check your feeds on Christmas Day! 🙂
As always you can get in touch with us by emailing us at [email protected], tweeting using that ol’ Twitter thang or by join our DWP Facebook community.
Enjoy the show!
It’s another episode of The Doctor Who Podcast! Join Drew and James as they take the DWP Campervan out for its latest spin around the Whoniverse.
This month sees the return of our Nine Lives mini series – a detailed look at the all-too-brief Ninth Doctor era. Ian and James have reached Father’s Day – and leave no emotional stone unturned. Do they hold it together? Tune in to find out!
Also on the agenda is the recent announcement from Big Finish that the War Doctor has been recast in a new audio series called The War Doctor Begins. No More? YES More! Exciting stuff.
Rounding off the episode, Michele joins Drew to discuss the all-time classic Big Finish story, Spare Parts.
You can get in touch with Team DWP using many different communications mediums – all of which are old, apparently. However I doubt we’ll ever use Snapagram or Instachat on the DWP! So, email us instead at [email protected], tweet using that Twitter thang or join the thriving DWP Facebook community.
Enjoy the show.
Join James and Phil for a brand spanking new edition of The Doctor Who Podcast!
Episode 312 sees the beginning of a spring clean of the Campervan (in October) – the first and most obvious change is our new coverart. Isn’t it brilliant?! It’s designed by the one and only DWP artist-in-residence, Dave – check out his feed for all the other non-DWP stuff on which he sprinkles his magic.
Also – we introduce to you, Desert Island Who! A new feature that is nothing more than a regular slot that allows us to discuss Classic Who, New Who, Big Finish Adventures and Who books. All tied up and introduced by a witty little ditty composed by none other than former DWP host, Leeson Fischer! It’s another earworm to rival the theme from Nine Lives – which returns in next month’s DWP.
What with nerdy observational ramblings about Fury from the Deep and Out of Time – the latest multi-Doctor audio from Big Finish, what is there not to love about this episode of your favourite Doctor Who podcast?!
As always, get in touch with the Campervan Crew by emailing [email protected], tweeting us on Twitter or join our community on Facebook. Enjoy the show.
The campervan is back! After nearly six months, the DWP returns with James and Phil at the helm. What do they cover? Well, it’s probably easier to ask what don’t they cover?! After being held back by a life-changing global pandemic, nothing stops James waxing lyrical for over an hour, almost without drawing a single breath – although to his credit, Phil does try!
Series 12 six-months on, Christopher Eccleston’s return to role with Big Finish, Jon Culshaw as the Brigadier, Tweetalongs, Doctor Who lockdown quizzes, Missing Episodes and those that hunt for them, the Special Edition of the Power of the Daleks animation and Fury from the Deep are just some of the topics discussed!
So find an armchair – or a corner in your favourite COVID-safe public house – and tune in!
Get in touch with the DWP team by emailing them – [email protected] reach them on Twitter or track them down on Facebook.
Enjoy the show.
It’s your final bonus DWP of Series 12! Isn’t it sad?! So pull up a comfy chair, pour a drink and grab your slippers – and join Brent, Drew and Ian as they chew over an episode of Doctor Who for the last time this year.
Let them know what you think of their musings by emailing [email protected], reach us on Twitter or find us on Facebook.

Welcome to Episode 295 of The Doctor Who Podcast!
Join the team as they geekout over the latest Who News, talk about how to deal with being self-conscious when dressed as The War Doctor in a coffee shop, talk Daleks versus Mechanoids in a review of Big Finish‘s The Juggernauts and re-visit Bill Pott’s introduction in a retrospective of Season 10’s The Pilot – the opening episode of Peter Capaldi’s final series as The Doctor
Several of our wonderful listeners have spotted that our Series 2 episodes are little longer (in the case of Episode 294, a *lot* longer!) than they were back in the olden days. The move to a monthly release schedule has allowed us to record more segments and produce longer episodes.
Not every episode of the DWP will use the multi-segment/multi-host format of #293 to #295 – we will mix it up a little occasionally to keep you (and us) on our collective toes! However, including the “contents” of each Episode in the show notes will allow you to locate/skip to or over a specific segment if you choose. We are looking at introducing chapter markers in future episodes, but in the meantime here is a list of segments in this episode:
00:00 to 16:35 Introduction and news (James, Phil and Ian)
16:35 to 32:05 Big Finish: The Juggernauts review (Drew and Michele)
32:10 to 58:17 Cosplay: what, why, how and does it cost loads? (Phil, Stephen and Drew)
58:17 to 01:14:37 Featured Episode review – The Pilot (James, Phil and Ian)
1:15:12 Outro (James, Phil and Ian)
1:18:48 VAM!!
If you would like to join in the conversation or have suggestions of your own to make, then please get in touch with the team by sending us an email – [email protected] – tweeting us @thedrwhopodcast or find us on Facebook.
Enjoy the show!

Please do get in touch with us – [email protected] or on Twitter or Facebook.
Welcome back to the The Doctor Who Podcast – you are of course MOST welcome to join us for our latest journey!
This is it guys, the last episode of the Doctor Who Podcast.
This episode isn’t a Logopolis-style depressing affair as we cry into our warm milks. Instead its a celebration of the podcast from those heady days of the beginning of the Matt Smith era, right up to the present day.
So, from Trevor, James, Tom, Leeson, Stephen, Michele and Ian – it has been our pleasure, our honour to be with you on your Doctor Who journeys for these many many years.
Indeed, you have been most welcome.
Enjoy the show.
Yes, it’s that time of year again. The time when we all take a look into the mists of time yet to pass and say clearly what it is we see happening in the world of Doctor Who. Join Leeson, James, Michele and Trevor as they argue about the outcomes of last year’s predictions and commit themselves to what they think will happen this year.
Enjoy the show.
Happy New Year to all our wonderful listeners! Yes, we’re back from our Christmas break and headlong into some Big Finish plays. Join Trevor and Michele as they review the second Sixth Doctor and Flip trilogy from Big Finish, specifically Antidote to Oblivion by Philip Martin, The Brood of Eyrs by Andrew Smith and Scavenger by William Gallagher.
If that wasn’t enough, Ian also drops by to join Michele for the last in our series of reviews of Eighth Doctor, Charley and C’rizz plays, Memory Lane, Absolution and The Girl Who Never Was.
We’ll be back next week with our traditional New Year predictions episode.
Enjoy the show!
Join Trevor, James and Michele as they go through the vast swathes of questions you’ve been sending in to us! From Doctor/Companion mash-ups to tales of Trevor’s jaunt to the UofK, no subject is off limits!
Ian also drops by to join Michele in their journey through the Eighth Doctor, Charley and C’rizz Big Finish stories with their review of Something Inside.
We’ll be back next week with a review of the Christmas special, Last Christmas. Now that’s a time-wimey sentence if ever there was one….
Enjoy the show.
An old fashioned Geek Out is to be had in this episode of the DWP, wherein Trevor and Michele try and resist the urge to talk about Series 8 of Doctor Who, and instead talk about Big Finish, Series 8 and Pringles.
Warning – episode may contain unreasonably large amounts of talk about Pringles.
Join Trev, James and Ian as they record live and unedited huddled around a single microphone. Yes, Trev is here in the UK and the opportunity to record in person whilst on a trip to Cardiff was simply too good to miss. So pull up a chair as the three friends discuss Trev’s trip to the UK, shrines to fictional characters and take a causal look back at the last ten episodes of Doctor Who that have comprised series 8.
Sadly Trevor, Ian and Leeson weren’t around to record their thoughts for our main review episode – but that hasn’t stopped them! All three have recorded a short piece on this year’s finale for your entertainment/frustration (delete as applicable). Leeson is up first followed by Trev at 07:30 and then finally Ian at 17:00.
We’ll be back next week with Episode 285 with our usual end of series wrap-up. After that, it’s another feedback episode! We already have lots of audio feedback to share but we’re happy to do a longer than usual podcast to get your thoughts in. So please keep your feedback coming in – under two minutes and in the audio format of your choice. [email protected] is the address to send it to!
Enjoy the show.
Join James, Stephen and Michele as they take a look at the highly anticipated finale to Series 8, Death in Heaven.
Make sure you get your feedback on this year’s finale – audio only please and keep it to under two minutes. [email protected] is the address you need to write on the front of your envelope.
Welcome (again) to Episode 280 – the redux…!
Regular listeners will no doubt have already listened to Trevor and Stephen forensically dissecting last week’s episode of Doctor Who, Flatline, but what you may not know, is that there was a third presenter was there in the campervan with them that day, desperately trying to be heard.
Leeson had been setting up the equipment prior to recording when he accidentally reversed the polarity of Trev’s swivel chair, resulting in him being miniaturized.
Unable to be heard in his new tiny state, Leeson kept his microphone switched on, and from the confines of Trevor’s rucksack, continued to join in the conversation despite not being heard by either Trev or Stephen.
This ladies and gentlemen, is DWP 280, the redux. Using the fragments of audio recorded by Leeson, and the unedited rushes from DWP 280, we have recreated the episode as it could have been.
This was not a fixed point in time, so no timelines were harmed in the creation of this special DWP episode.
Enjoy, dear listeners.
Join us for another episode of the famous DWP where we endeavor to review The Mummy on the Orient Express AND produce show notes that are EXACTLY 66 words long.
That’s the extra effort we go to for you, our dear listeners.
Join Stephen, Trevor, Ian and Michele as they foxtrot their way through menacing mummies, cranky companions, terrifying train journeys and a monologue from Leeson Fischer.
Join the DWP in an extended version of the podcast as they travel to moon to……review its murder. Yes, Stephen, Ian, James and (now regular guest) Nerdist blogger Kyle Anderson (he won’t leave!) talk about Episode 7 of the current series, Kill The Moon. Trev also drops in with his views.
James also speaks to Tony Osoba about his appearance in Kill The Moon, which is actually his third appearance in Doctor Who after guest roles in Destiny of the Daleks and Dragonfire. He talks about working with Peter Capaldi, travelling to Lanzarote with the cast and crew and how Capaldi’s approach to the Doctor differs from Tom Baker and Sylvester McCoy’s.
Keep your thoughts coming in – we’ll be doing an episode comprising solely of your feedback soon. Mail your opinions, thoughts and reviews (audio only and keep it under two minutes please) to [email protected].
Enjoy the show!
Grab your mops and brooms, but leave your fezzes behind – they are SO last season – and join Leeson, James , Trevor and special guest Kyle Anderson as they review episode 6 of the new series of Doctor Who, The Caretaker!
A bonus mini-episode for you this week dear listeners . Quite unexpedly, Leeson felt compelled to sit down and talk into a microphone for a further ten minutes. And here is the result!
The Campervan sets up overnight in the merry forest of Sherwood to discuss all things Doctor Who this week. Join Robin Trevor, Maid Michele and Little Stephen as they put forth their views on the third episode from the Capaldi era – Robot of Sherwood.
Yes, it’s here. It’s our spoiler special preview of Series Eight! In case you didn’t get it from the title, this episode does not hold back in discussing all the recent chatter doing the rounds on the interweb. Rumours, conjecture and no fewer than three Kooky Theories of the Week make up this week’s DWP. That said, Leeson and James don’t really know much anyway so how spoilery this episode is is arguable anyway! Just to set the boundaries up front – neither Leeson or James have read the leaked scripts or watched the partially complete episodes.
Spoilerphobes of any dispostion are safe up until the very clear warning.
We’ll be back as quickly as we can be after Deep Breath airs on Saturday.
Enjoy the show.
Join James, Leeson and Luke from the Minute Doctor Who Podcast as they chat about wobbly daleks and a shouty Davros. Ian and Michele chime in with their review of Other Lives as they continue their onslaught through Big Finish’s Eighth Doctor, Charley and C’rizz stories.
We’ll be back next week with our preview of series eight! Not long to go now…..
All manner of Doctors are discussed on this weeks edition of The Doctor Who Podcast.
Tom, Leeson and Michele talk Capaldi, Tennant, Smith, Troughton, Baker. I am sure even Trevor Martin gets mentioned, at least once.
Quite a packed little episode topped off by a review from Ian and Michele of Big Finish‘s Fourth Doctor and Leela story, The Crooked Man.
Enjoy.
What?! You thought we’d concluded our Re-Cutting mini-series? Well, to be honest, so did we! But we received a fantastic piece of feedback from our friend Martin Spallacey which we just couldn’t ignore! Thanks Martin for wrapping up the series so nicely.
And in any case, how could we resist the chance to play Leeson’s fantastic theme tune just one more time? Well, okay. Twice more. The beginning and the end. Yes.
Enjoy the show.
Join James and Trev as they travel back to 1985 and talk Daleks. Revelation of the Daleks to be precise. But before they make the short-hop to Necros, they discuss last week’s announcement that Deep Breath will screen in cinemas across the globe, talk about Big Finish adapting some of Virgin’s Missing and New Adventures books and head into the annex where Ian and Michele wax lyrical about Big Finish’s Eight Doctor and Charley play, Scaredy Cat.
Enjoy the show.
Join James, Trevor and Tom as their individual virtual space timelines finally converge. And strangely, they have nothing structured to discuss. But since when did that stop them? Sit down and grab your e-ticket to the reunion of the original DWP line-up for the first time in over a year.
And fear not – Ian and Michele return to represent the sane faction of the DWP presenting team in their review of the second story in the most recent season of Fourth Doctor and Leela Big Finish plays, White Ghosts.
Join Stephen and Ian as they conclude our mini-series looking back at the Key to Time season. And for those of you who have been asking, the theme tune for this seies was put together by our very own Leeson Fischer. Stay tuned for an extended version of it at the end of this episode.
The DWP turns its collective eye towards the news of the upcoming Series 8.
There is talk of spoilers. There is talk of leaked scripts. There is talk of trailers. In fact, there is quite a lot of talk. Not unusual for a podcast mind, but… my word there is a lot of talk in this episode.
Even with all that talk, listeners can rest assured that they will remain undamaged (even if their ear drums do not) from any spoilers for the new series. We keep you spoiler free because we care.
And also because we don’t know anything.
Enjoy the show!
Join James and Stephen Elsden in part two of our special mini-series revisiting The Key to Time series. This time, The Stones of Blood and The Androids of Tara are put under the DWP microscope.
Join Leeson, Ian and Michele as they travel back in time to Christmas last year, when the second of the two highly anticpated 2013 Matt Smith episodes aired for the first time. Has the relatively short period since broadcast had an impact on the Campervan’s occupants opinion of the story? Has the seven months been kind to it?! Find out in the final instalment of our Regenerations Series!
Ian and Michele also dive into a new Big Finish range, the third series of the Fourth Doctor plays. This time around, The King of Sontar is put under the microscope.
Welcome to a brand new series of mini-DWPs! In Re-Cutting The Key to Time, good friend of show, Mr Stephen Elsden shares his thoughts about the stories that comprise The Key To Time season. Long term DWP listeners (yes, there are a few!) will remember Stephen from our 7th Heaven and Re-Trial of a Time Lord featurettes where he talked about watching classic episodes of Doctor Who for the very first time many years after their original transmission.
In the first episode, he talks to James about The Ribos Operation and Ian about The Pirate Planet.
And this is in addition to your regular weekly DWP – we’ll be back next week with Episode 265!
Join James, Stephen, Tom and very special guest Kyle Anderson as they convene to discuss the much maligned tenth Doctor swan-song, The End of Time. This story has is supporters – it finished 82nd in the recent poll by Doctor Who Magazine – higher than A Christmas Carol, higher than The Snowmen and (criminally) higher than The Twin Dilemma; but do this week’s campervan occupants rate it?!
If you like sane, sensible and measured anaysis rather than our usual ramblings, Kyle regularly contributes to The Nerdist, usually about Doctor Who but he does dare to go off topic on occasion. He is also a co-host on both the Doctor Who: The Writers Room and WTF Are You Watching?! podcasts – go check out his stuff!
Join us next week when we get all Christmassy again (yes, in July) as we take on Time of the Doctor in our penultimate Regenerations review.
Join Leeson and James and they take a look at the first new series non-Doctor regeneration story, Utopia. Just how wonderful was Derek Jacobi?! Masterful. They also go through the tail end of the questions that you wonderful listeners have sent in for us to answer. And the mystery of where Leeson comes from is cleared up once and for all.
Ian and Michele are back as they review the last Big Finish Eighth Doctor and Charley play set in the Divergent Universe, The Next Life.
Join us next week for the next in our Regenerations series – it has the word ‘Time’ in it. And ‘of’. Hmmm.
Join James and Trevor as they work their way through the questions you wonderful listeners have sent in!
Yes, we take a break from our Regenerations series to deal with the burning issues you’ve asked us to tackle – for example, where precisely *does* Leeson fare from? And how many listeners does the Doctor Who Podcast have?! Oh yes, nothing but the key issues of the day here!
The Doctor Who World Tour also gets some airtime – will Trev be making the cross-continental trip to Sydney to hear what Peter Capaldi has to say? Will James travel one mile into London to hear about Mr Moffat’s Masterplan?! Tune in to find out…..!
Enjoy the show.
Join James and Leeson as they sit down to enjoy Colin Baker’s first full outing as Ol’ Sixey, The Twin Dilemma. Consistently voted the worst Doctor Who story of all time, does the story get any love thrown it’s way at all? Tune in to fine out!
Ian and Michele reach Caerdroia and the end of the fourth series of 8th Doctor and Charley Big Finish stories.
Enjoy the show.
Join Trev, Michele and Tony in the DWP Campervan as they talk about the most jolly, happy and positive Doctor Who story of all time. Hooray!
Ian and Michele continue their trek though the Eight Doctor and Charley plays from Big Finish, and reach The Last. No, not the last play, the play *called* The Last. Geddit? Good!
Enjoy the show.
Join Michele, James and Luke from The Minute Doctor Who Podcast for Part Five of our Regenerations series, our first from the modern era, Bad Wolf and Parting of the Ways.
Ian also pops in to join Michele to discuss the first in the fourth series of Eighth Doctor and Charley Big Finish plays, Faith Stealer.
Enjoy the show.
Join James, Michele and Ian as they talk about Jon Pertwee’s and the third Doctor’s final story, Planet of the Spiders. How does this story stand up compared to the other farewell stories? And just who is afraid of spiders anyway? Along with some listener feedback and the announcement of the winner of the Tenth Planet DVD competition, what more could you ask for?
Well okay then, since you insist: Ian and Michele also review the final story in the third series of Eighth Doctor and Charley Big Finish adventures, The Twilight Kingdom.
Join Michele, Ian and Tony for malapropisms, spoons and of course, the Tetrap Rap as they take a nostaligic look back at Time and the Rani. What, you’ve never heard of the Tetrap Rap?
Ian and Michele then shunt off into the Divergent universe to review The Natural History of Fear as they approach the end of the third series of Eight Doctor and Charley plays from Big Finish.
Join us next week for the listeners choice of Regeneration stories – that might just include arachnids. Brrrr.
Last week Doctor Who lost one of the most happy, vibrant and friendly of fans. Paul Spragg worked for Big Finish and was intrinsic to so much of their work. Big Finish released the news on their website last week.
Michele recorded an interview with Paul at Chicago TARDIS in 2012. Join them as they discuss Paul’s career, his fondness for puns and of course his work for Big Finish.
It’s another geek-out in the Campervan this week – well, you seem to like them and we can’t get enough of them either! This week however there is an underlying theme to the otherwise unplanned banter. Do the stories told though Doctor Who have any deeper meaning than is immediately apparent? Is there an ideology being transmitted though the show? Join Tom and James and they mull this over – and get distracted several times on the way.
Ian and Michele reach the mid-point of the third season of Eight Doctor and Charley Big Finish plays and review The Creed of the Kromon.
Enjoy the show.
Join Michele as she presents intervews with writers Andrew Smith, John Dorney and Matt Fitton. The trio of writers for Big Finish sit down with Ian and discuss their trade and Doctor Who at Big Finish Day 4 held earlier this year. Just what does it take to become a writer – and how then do you end up giving words to Gallifrey’s greatest son?
Many thanks to Big Finish Productions and to 10th Planet Events.
James and Tom will be back next week with Episode 256 to discuss ideology in Doctor Who! You have been warned.
Enjoy the show.
Join Stephen, Ian, Michele and Tom for Part 2 of our Regenerations series, this time focussing on the fourth Doctor’s final story, Logopolis. Nothing controversial there, right. Right? Hello? Anyway, that’s after they Campervan Crew catch up on the plethora of casting announcements for Series 8.
Ian and Michele also talk about Big Finish’s Scherzo in their ongoing quest through the Eighth Doctor and Charley plays.
Enjoy the show.
Join Michele, Stephen and James for the latest DWP geekout – 30 minutes of Doctor Who chatter without any planning or structure! The five minutes of planned sanity see Michele and Ian talk about Big Finish‘s 40th Main Range release, the mighty Zagreus.
Join us next week for Part 2 of our Regenerations series when Logopolis will be put under the DWP microscope.
Enjoy the show!
Step into the Campervan and join James, Stephen, Ian and Tony as they discuss the first in a series of shows focussing on the regeneration stories. Starting at the beginning, they discuss the merits of The Tenth Planet; the Cybermen’s first story and William Hartnell’s last.
In the annex, Ian and Michele finally reach the finale of the second series of Eighth Doctor and Charley Big Finish stories, Neverland.
Enjoy the show!
Amy Pond and Clara Oswin Oswald. Which character has the more interesting journey? Who is more interesting to watch on screen? Which actor delivers the most convincing performance?! Join Stephen, Michele, James and Leeson as they talk about two of the Doctor’s most recent companions.
Ian and Michele also take time out to discuss the latest Eighth Doctor and Charley play in their marathon listen – and review Big Finish’s Time of the Daleks.
Enjoy the show
Is there a character from from one story, or perhaps just one episode of Doctor Who that you find particularly memorable? Or is there anyone that you felt gave such good performance that they had you wishing them through the doors of the TARDIS? Have you been disappointed at having to say goodbye to a Companion That Never Was?! The history of televised Doctor Who is littered with fantastic performances from members of supporting cast. Join James, Ian, Michele and Tony as they put forward their candidates of who they believe would have made a fantastic companion to the Doctor.
Join us for a landmark Episode of The Doctor Who Podcast! 250 DWPs eh?! Who’d have thought?! Well, this time we have a treat for you as Ian gets to spend some chatting to the Eight Doctor himself, Mr Paul McGann at this year’s Big Finish Day 4.
The Campervan is full to bursting this week as Trevor, James, Leeson, Michele and Stephen all make an appearance (of sorts!) and chime in with their thoughts about the Eight Doctor era.
Enjoy the show.
Join Michele, Tom and Stephen as they talk about the role of the all-powerful Showrunner – and toss some names of potential candidates in the air in terms of whom might succeed Steven Moffat when the time comes.
Ian and Michele continue their voyage through season two of the Eight Doctor and Charley Big Finish plays and take a look at Seasons of Fear and Embrace the Darkness.
We’ll be back next week with Episode 250! And we’ve a little surprise for you in store….
Enjoy the show.
Join James and a special guest (a very, very special guest) as they talk their way through six – yes, SIX Big Finish Main Range plays. Sit back and hear them talk about Eldrad Must Die, The Lady of Mercia, Prisoners of Fate, Persuasion, Starlight Robbery and Daleks Among Us.
We’ll be back next week when we turn our attention to just who might follow Steven Moffat as Showrunner of Doctor Who.
Enjoy the show.
Join Stephen and Leeson as they geek out over this year’s Gallifrey One convention. Stephen (who attended) describes his experiences to Leeson (who stayed at home). Hear Leeson’s frustration gradually increase as Stephen reveals what it’s like when 3,300 Doctor Who fans from around the globe converge in a hotel, pretty much at the end of one of the runways at Los Angeles Airport.
Ian and Michele continue their trek through the early Eighth Doctor and Charley stories as they review Big Finish‘s Invaders from Mars and The Chimes of Midnight.
There was a recording issue this episode that has resulted in Stephen’s voice sounding like a partially converted Cyberman. Apologies for this and hopefully it won’t interfere with your listening pleasure too much!
Michele is joined by a certain UNIT Captain in the last of our updates from this year’s Gallifrey One.
Michele is back with yet more DWP listeners covering day three of Gallifrey One 25 in Los Angeles.
Michele is back with some more wonderful DWP listeners, reporting on the first full day of Gallifrey One 25 from Los Angeles.
Join Michele, live from Los Angeles at Gallifrey One 25 as she’s joined by three real life, bona fide, DWP listeners!
With just two days to go before the largest Doctor Who Convention kicks off in Los Angeles, Stephen and Michele are joined by Chip Sudderth, also known as The Two Minute Time Lord to preview Gallifrey One 25.
Join the US occupation of the Campervan to hear about experiences of Gallifreys past and the preview of the programme for this year’s event. Stephen, Michele and Chip will all be there at the LAX Marriott for the con, so if you’re going, make you track them down and say ‘hi’.
Enjoy the show.
A real mixed bag this time! James and Michele discuss the thirteenth Doctor’s sense of fashion. Stephen drops in a more thoughtful (and detailed) opinion too.
Ian is then joined by Nicholas Briggs and discusses the Eighth incarnation of our favourite Gallifreyan and possible directions his iteration can now head post-Night of the Doctor.
In addition, a review of the final story in Big Finish‘s first Eighth Doctor and Charlie season, Minuet in Hell and the last part of our Re-Trial of a Time Lord mini-series where Trial of The Valeyard gets put under the DWP microscope! Phew!
Enjoy the show.
As one Doctor prepares to begin his reign, Michele, James and Stephen take a look back at the beginning of another. We set the dial for 1970 and review Jon Pertwee’s debut story, Spearhead From Space.
Stephen Elsden pops back for Part Two of Re-Trial of a Time Lord and reports back after his very first viewing of Terror of the Vervoids and The Ultimate Foe.
Still not enough?! Well then, Ian and Michele continue their trek through the first season of Eight Doctor and Charley Big Finish stories and review The Stones of Venice.
Enjoy the show.
Join Stephen, Michele and James as they geek out over the latest Doctor Who news. And George Formby.
We also welcome Stephen Elsden back to the campervan for Part 1 of Re-Trial of a Time Lord – a new mini-series where Stephen talks about his reaction to watching Series 23 for the very first time, some thirty years after it first aired on BBC1.
As if that wasn’t enough, then Michele and Ian continue their trek through the Eighth Doctor Big Finish plays and turn their attention to Sword of Orion!
Enjoy the show.
And welcome to the first regular Doctor Who Podcast of 2014! In time honoured fashion, it’s our predictions episode! James, Stephen, Michele and Leeson take a look back at the predictions we made at the beginning of last year (in Episode 183) and then foolishly go on to make brand new ones for 2014.
Happy New Year everyone! And what better way is there to start the New Year off than looking back at one of 2013’s most popular and successful series of Doctor Who events?!
Lat year, the British Film Institute organised the wonderful Doctor Who at 50 – eleven monthly events, each of which celebrated a different era of the show. At least one full story was screened at each event and then a panel was held with Doctor Who alumni from each era. The events attracted Doctor Who stars from across the ages – from Tom Baker to David Tennant to Donald Tosh, the BFI was the place to celebrate Who in 2013.
In this episode, James talks to Justin Johnson and Dick Fiddy from the BFI – the co-curators and organisers of the Doctor Who at 50 events and discuss nearly getting Christopher Eccleston, the ticketing decisions and basically how much they love Doctor Who!
Tune in for Episode 242 in a couple of weeks’ time – be warned: it’s our predictions show!
Another era of our favourite show comes to an end – Matt Smith takes his final bow and morphs into the erratic kidney loving Peter Capaldi.
Time of the Doctor gives us our final glimpse of Matt Smith as the Doctor, and it is down to Stephen and Trevor to provide their thoughts on the story – but James manages to get his thoughts in too!
Get your feedback in on this story and indeed on the whole of the Matt Smith era to [email protected].
Not so long ago in a galaxy far, far away, there lived a Doctor Who fan. A grumpy Doctor Who fan. This is the story of what happened to him. Merry Christmas to all our poor, poor listeners.
Ladies and Gentlemen, The Doctor Who Podcast is proud to present – this year’s Christmas Quiz!! Yes, it’s that time of year when we all torment each other and find out just how little we actually know about Doctor Who.
So sit back, have a cup of tea and enjoy hearing Stephen, Tom and Leeson squirm under the barrage of brain-teasers James thoroughly enjoys throwing at them!
Join James, Stephen and Ian as they get together to talk about….well, it’s a geek-out so anything’s on the cards. It’s only natural however that the conversation heads in the direction of reviewing the 50th Anniversary year. All three attended the Celebration at the Excel so that gets a review along with a chat about all the other celebratory events that have taken place . In all the excitement, a lone voice dares to say; yes Doctor Who has taken over television – but has there been enough of the actual flagship show itself? Would we have traded the Afterparty and The Science of Doctor Who for another episode of the show itself? Hmmm.
Next week – it’s BACK! Yes, it’s our Christmas Quiz!!
With Day of the Doctor having aired over a week ago, it’s time to find out what our listeners thought of the Anniversary episode. Join James, Stephen, Michele and Tony as they read, listen and argue about the points of view you’ve send in!
Hot on the heels of last episode’s instant review of the Day of the Doctor, the DWP presenters retreat to the relative safety of the DWP Campervan to have a more measured, thoughtful, insightful discussion on the 50th Anniversary story.
Join the hosts of your favourite Doctor Who podcast as they discuss in more detail their reactions to The Day of the Doctor!
How about that then?! THE DAY HAS BEEN SAVED! James, Michele, Tony and Laura were at the British Film Institute this evening to see Day of the Doctor along with fellow fans as it aired around the globe. This is their instant reaction, recorded not more than ten minutes after the final credits had rolled. Tune in to find out what they thought about it! NOW!!!
Join us later in the week for Part 2 of our review when Tom and Leeson share what they thought too. We’d also love to hear what you thought – send in your feedback to us as [email protected]. Audio feedback under two minutes stands a better chance of making onto a future DWP.
Enjoy the show!
Well, it’s now aired in the UK!! Join James, Ian, Tony and Laura as they review the rather wonderful ninety minute drama about the origins of Doctor Who, An Adventure in Time and Space. Be careful, this is a FULL review, spoilers an’ all, so if you live in a part of the world that hasn’t aired the programme yet, don’t listen to this episode until you’ve seen it!
Join us at the weekend for review of the 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor. It’s getting very close now!!
Wow. Who saw THAT coming?! Paul McGann BACK as The Doctor on our telly boxes! But what did the DWP team make of it?! Join James, Tom and Stephen as they attempt to regulate their breathing so they can articulate their reactions to seven minutes of television no-one thought would ever exist….
Inevitably, discussion turns to Day of the Doctor – but don’t worry, it’s all spoiler-free. Mainly because we don’t know anything about the story!
Also, Ian and his son Alex pop into the Campervan to talk about Professor Brian Cox‘s latest project, The Science of Doctor Who that screened on BBC2 the same day that Night of the Doctor was released. What a week!
Join us Thursday – yes, Thursday – at 10.30pm GMT when Episode 236 will be online – a review Mark Gatiss’ An Adventure in Space and Time.
In this week’s episode of The Doctor Who Podcast, Stephen and James review Big Finish’s hugely anticipated anniversary story, The Light at the End. The play features the first eight Doctors! There will be arguments…..
Ian and Michele drop by to review another multi-Doctor Big Finish story, The Four Doctors.
Join us next week for our geek-out about the events taking place in the run-up to the 50th Anniversary. And if that isn’t enough for you, then we’ll chuck in a review of The Science of Doctor Who from Ian as well!
In the second of our Writers Specials, we speak to Tommy Donbavand and Simon Guerrier about writing for Doctor Who. Tommy talks about his recent Eleventh Doctor and Clara novel, Shroud of Sorrow and Simon about giving words to the Second Doctor and Jamie in is his Destiny of the Doctors audio, Shadow of Death.
Join Stephen, Tony and Laura as they guide you through the interviews – oh, and there’s a cameo from a truly ghostly voice from the DWP’s murky past……
Join us for Episode 234 next week for our review of Big Finish’s Light at the End.
Tom and Michele return to the Campervan and waste no time at all in dissecting the trailer for the 50th Anniversary episode, The Day of the Doctor that was released last week.
They then talk about the recent Big Finish sixth Doctor and Mel trilogy, The Wrong Doctors, Spaceport Fear and The Seeds of War. Whilst the DWP team are geeking out about this sometime controversial TARDIS team, Ian pops in to chat about the Mechanoids sole Big Finish outing, The Juggernauts.
Tune in next week to hear the verdict on what has been arguably Big Finish’s most anticipated release EVER – the 50th anniversary special featuring Doctors 1 to 8 – The Light at the End!
In this edition of The Doctor Who Podcast, Stephen, Leeson and James take a look back at the soon-ending Matt Smith era of the show and choose two episodes each of what they consider to be must-see eleventh Doctor stories to talk about. But will they agree on the definition of ‘must-see’?! Do space-pigs fly?
For sane listeners, Ian and Michele take a look at Big Finish’s first multi-doctor story, The Sirens of Time.
So put the kettle on, pull up a chair and treat yourself to a jammy dodger and listen to the DWP team wax lyrical about Matt Smith and Doctor Who screened since 2010.
Enjoy the show.
As every fan will know by now, it was recently announced that nine previously missing episodes of classic Doctor Who had been found and returned to the BBC Archive. Hooray! The find means we can watch The Enemy of the World in its entirety and five complete episodes of The Web of Fear.
In this episode, James, Stephen and Ian discuss how the story unfolded and speculate about whether the story has now run its course or if we can allow ourselves to believe more episodes are on their way….
In a bonus edition of The Doctor Who Podcast, we bring you the first in a mini-series of interviews with writers who have become synonymous with Doctor Who fiction, either through writing books, Big Finish audios or extensive articles for Doctor Who Magazine – or in many cases, all three!
First up, it’s Jonathon Morris who takes time out from his appearance at Big Finish Day 3 to speak to us. Jonny’s back catalogue of Doctor Who output is vast – and is still growing. He’s the author of over 40 Big Finish audio plays and four original Doctor Who novels for the BBC. Check out his blog – it makes facinating reading.
In this interview he talks to Tony and Laura, our intrepid roving reporters at about writing, missing episodes and how it feels to put words into the mouths of actors we became familiar with by watching them on the telly all those years ago.
Many thanks to both Big Finish Productions and to 10th Planet Events for allowing us to cover the event. Enjoy the show!
It a Sergeant Benton special!! Yes, Stephen and Leeson team up once again and review the rather superb documentary included on the Special Edition of The Claws of Axos DVD, Living With Levene. It’s a unique feature in which Toby Hadoke spends a weekend with John Levene in an attempt to get to know the real person responsible for the character Doctor Who fans know as Sergeant Benton. Does he succeed?! Tune in to find out.
Ian and Michele also bring you a review of John Levene’s first Big Finish Companion Chronicle, Council of War.
Tune in again this coming weekend for a bonus edition of The Doctor Who Podcast as we bring you the first in a mini-series of interviews with Doctor Who writers of various media. First up is Jonathan Morris.
In this episode, Stephen, Tom and James discuss the announcement made last week that The Day of The Doctor will be simulcast in over 75 countries around the globe. Now just why didn’t that happen with The Five Doctors?!
They also bring you the final part in the latest mini-series of Burning Issues – to what extent does the lead actor actually need to act in order to successfully portray the Doctor?!
Michele and Ian are also back discussing the final two parts of the second run of Big Finish’s spin-off series from Remembrance of the Daleks, Counter Measures.
The reptiles theme continues this week as James, Stephen and a special guest talk about the much-maligned Warriors of the Deep. What will the Campervan occupants make of the re-imagined Silurians and Sea Devils and of course, everyone’s favourite pet marine monster, the Myrka?
Stephen also has the privilege of talking to the wonderful Tara Ward who played Preston in Warriors about her memories of being cast, filming and what things were like on Sea Base 4.
Enjoy the show.
This week the Campervan time travels back to 1967 to take a look at the classic story, The Ice Warriors. The story has recently been released on two brand new shiny DVDs and the two missing episodes have been animated, allowing fans to experience the story in a way that simply hasn’t been possible until now.
So Join Tom, James, Stephen and Leeson as they sit round the Campervan’s small tellybox and take it in turns to do Ice Warrior impressions.
For the more discerning listener, Ian and Michele talk about reptiles of a different kind as they review an early Big Finish play featuring Silurians – Bloodtide.
Discussing rumours of newly discovered missing episodes is a prerequisite of being a Doctor Who fan. Where would be all be if we didn’t allow ourselves the secret hope that one day, someone will find the 106 episodes missing from the BBC archives in a box in someone’s loft or in the bowels of an overseas Broadcaster’s Headquarters?!
Well, as pretty much every fan knows, the latest sets of rumours gained some serious traction and have been bouncing around fandom for the last 18 months or so. What does the DWP team make of them? Yes, join Stephen, James and Leeson as they discuss what they’ve heard and allow themselves to dream……
Stephen and Michele share similar cultural and Doctor Who histories. They’ll agree on everything, right? Judge for yourself as they discuss a recent Big Finish main range trilogy – The Burning Prince, The Acheron Pulse and The Shadow Heart. But it isn’t until they turn their thoughts to the casting of Peter Capaldi that things get really … uh … “hot.”
We also offer a calmer, more refined Big Finish review from Ian and Michele. This week they conclude their look at the second series of Fourth Doctor and first Romana stories with a review of the two-part finale, The Dalek Contract and The Final Phase.
Join Stephen, Leeson and James in the second of our newest series of Burning Issues episodes. The Sonic Screwdriver. Love it or hate it, it’s become a fundamental part of the show in much the same way as the TARDIS is. But has it’s continual presence in the series since 2005 done the show any favours? Do writers rely on it too much now as a magic wand that can resolve plot points? Join us in the campervan to find out what we think.
Michele and Ian also pop in and post a review of parts one and two of the second series of Counter Measures – the Big Finish spin-off series from Remembrance of the Daleks.
And welcome to a landmark episode of The Doctor Who Podcast – for the first time, all six hosts appear on this one! But not at the same time….. it’s timey wimey.
Stephen, Tom and James zip all the way back to 1965 and talk about the first story in the third series of Doctor Who, Galaxy Four. A reconstruction of the story (including the recently recovered complete third episode) was released on the Special Edition of The Aztecs DVD, and it’s this version of the story the team take a look at. Not being one to be left out of a good ol’ natter about missing episodes, Leeson jumps in with his opinion too.
Still locked in the Campervan Annex, Michele and Ian and have been passing the time by looking at another story that until recently, consisted of just one surviving episode. Join them as they take a look at The Underwater Menace.
We’ll be back next week with the second in our newest series of Burning Issues podcasts. This time we put the sonic screwdriver under the spotlight and ask if it’s time for it to go…..Terileptil style.
Stephen continues his mission to record with the entire DWP Campervan crew in the space of just one month. Not afraid of controversy, Stephen opts to discuss another thorny issue – can Doctor Who really be considered as a British show any longer? Who better to fly the flag for Britiain, but the softest, fluffiest and sweetest member of the DWP, Mr Leeson Fischer. Abandon hope all ye who download.
For the sane listeners, Michele and Ian bring you a review of the next Big Finish’s fourth Doctor and Romana play, Phantoms of the Deep.
For listeners that survive this episode, we’ll be back next week to to look at two early stories that have both had episodes returned to the BBC archives recently, Galaxy Four and the Underwater Menace.
Ian and Stephen are in the Campervan this week talking about the idea of an older actor playing the Doctor. After having several beautiful young men in the prime of their life play the part, we are now presented with a more mature option, Peter Capaldi.
Ian and Stephen talk about their reaction to the casting decision and indeed, what an older lead actor means for show. The boys even dare to discuss the thorny subject of “Just how old is the Doctor?”. Wow. it’ll be UNIT dating next.
If that wasn’t enough, Michele joins Ian for a chat about another fourth Doctor and Romana Big Finish audio, The Justice of Jalxar.
Hold on to your hats for next week – it’s the one we’ve ALL been waiting for. When Stephen met Leeson. You have been warned.
Following on from our mini-season of Burning Issues podcasts earlier in the year Stephen Tom and James are back with the first in a new series.
It’s often been said that Doctor Who takes its lead from other television shows and films, and certainly, there are times when a new story’s inspiration is apparent. But its also widely accepted that Doctor Who is unique and despite many attempts, not one show has been able to emulate the precise je ne said quoi our beloved show so clearly has. So what is it? A Trend Setter or Follower? Tune in to hear our take on the matter.
Also, this episode sees the last of our popular Seventh Heaven instalments. Stephen (no,not that one, the other one) has finally finished his quest to watch all of the Sylvester McCoy stories for the very first time. Tune in to hear what he thinks about The Curse of Fenric and Survival.
Join us next week for a leisurely discussion (yes, we do those sometimes. What?!) about just what an older actor playing the Doctor will mean for the show.
The speculation, guesswork, teeth grinding and sleepless nights are over. We now know who will step into Matt Smith’s shoes at the end of the year.
Peter Capaldi, best known from the BBC comedy series The Thick of It, director of a Academy Awards nominated short film, winner of a BAFTA and two British comedy awards, has been announced as the 12th Doctor.
Join James, Tom and Stephen as they discuss the reaction to the announcement broadcast on BBC television (and indeed worldwide!).
Join James and Tom for the start of a new era of The Doctor Who Podcast! In this episode, they unwrap and welcome a brand new, shiny, polished, optimistic new DWP host. But who is it?! Well, tune in to find out as we examine his Doctor Who fan credentials. Or check out the Hosts page if you are ultra-impatient! The chaps also talk about the recent controversy created by a certain trailer being shown for the first – and perhaps the only time – at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.
All this and part five of Seventh Heaven, AND a review from Ian and Michele of The Sands of Life and War Against the Laan – two recent Fourth Doctor and Romana plays from Big Finish Productions. Phew!
Join us next week as we kick off with part 1 of our second Burning Issues mini-series.
There will be tears, there will be laughter, there will be gnashing of teeth and cries of desperation. All in all, a pretty standard day in the DWP Campervan when we get Leeson to attempt the washing up.
While he clatters away chipping crockery and breaking glasses we attempted to record an episode of the DWP – the results of which you can enjoy here today. Or tomorrow, if you are busy today. By this weekend at the very latest, ok?
Returning to the fertile sanctuary of Big Finish this episode, Trevor, Leeson and Michele review the Paul McGann boxset series of audio dramas, Dark Eyes.
Heralding a darker, edgier Eighth Doctor, Dark Eyes takes the Doctor that once deliriously marvelled at how well a pair of borrowed shoes fitted, into a new and very exciting direction.
Join the Three Who Were Never Meant to Rule, Ever, as they feast upon the smorgasbord of story that Dark Eyes presents for us.
We also feature the epic continuation of our Seventh Heaven series, where Stephen Elsden is watching, for the first time, ALL the stories from the Seventh Doctor era!
Ever sat back and marvelled at Steven Moffat‘s ability to weave multi-threaded plotlines? What a fantastic mystery Clara was, set up almost 12 months before the resolution was presented on our telly screens. Oh, and don’t forget the ‘Who precisely IS River Song’ arc that kicked off all the way back in 2008. But sometimes, Mr Moffat asks wonderfully intriguing questions – and then seems to forget about them. Or does he?! Join James and Stephen from A Madman With a Box Podcast as they shine the DWP spotlight on these seemingly unanswered questions and chat about a couple of Kooky theries you wonderful listeners have sent in.
If that wasn’t enough, Stephen Elsden returns in part 3 of our increasingly popular Seventh Heaven mini-series to talk about Rememberance of the Daleks and the Happiness Patrol. Does carnage ensue? Tune in to find out!
Share you thoughts with us about your take on Moffat’s loose ends – record your thoughts in under 120 seconds or less and email them to us at [email protected].
Join Leeson, Trevor and Michele in the Campervan this coming weekend in an extra edition of the Doctor Who Podcast as they give Big Finish‘s Dark Eyes the DWP Review treatment.
They’ve finally managed to do it. After years of trying, Ian and Michele have finally broken out of the Campervan annex and have ‘peacefully occupied’ the Executive Recording Lounge! The reason for this incursion however is valid as they’ve found a Dalek to interview. And this is no ordinary Dalek either – it’s none other than Barnaby Edwards who has been operating various Skarosians for nigh-on twenty years. And if that wasn’t enough, Ian and Michele review The Spectre of Lanyon Moor, an early Big Finish play starring Barnaby and written by fellow Dalek operator, Nicholas Pegg.
The interview was recorded at Big Finish Day 3 – thanks again to Big Finish and 10th Planet Events and of course to both Tony Whitmore and Laura Cowen.
Join James and Trev next week as they discuss….well, that would be telling wouldn’t it?!
This week a veritable feast of DVD reviewing as Trevor, James and Tom chow down on two classic era DVD releases. The First Doctor story Planet of Giants and the Third Doctor story The Ambassadors of Death fall under the microscope of the DWP campervan team.
Also included this week is a review of one of the more recent Tom Baker Big Finish audios, The Auntie Matter.
It’s another interview special! This time, we are immensely proud to present an interview with the definitive tin dog himself, Mr John Leeson. And if that wasn’t enough, we talk to the legend that is Chase Masterson about playing opposite both Tom Baker and Sylvester McCoy in recent Big Finish plays and how her portrayal landed her with her own spin-off series, Vienna.
These are just two of the interviews we recorded at Big Finish Day 3, more are on their way very soon. Our thanks go to 10th Planet Events and Big Finish Productions allowing us to cover the event.
Next week: they’re BACK! Trev, Tom and James put some classic DVDs under the microscope and Ian and Michele return with a review of one of the latest Fourth Doctor and Romana Big Finish plays. Don’t miss it!
Join Leeson and James as they present the final piece of our coverage from Big Blue Box 2, a Doctor Who Convention held in Tunbridge Wells earlier this year. James hosts the writer’s panel in front of a theatre full of Doctor Who fans and talks to writers Andrew Smith, Simon Guerrier and Nigel Fairs. How does it feel to have written the first words for a character that was killed off two years later? How does it feel to resurrect a sixties companion forty five years after her on-screen death?! And what is it like to kill off a well-loved companion from the seventies on audio – and then be commissioned to write a sequel?! All these things and more are discussed on this episode of the Doctor Who Podcast!
Big Blue Box was run in aid of Compaid – a charity that helps disabled people in the south east of England and Kent. Find out more by visiting their website at www.compaid.org.uk. Thanks again to Stephen Elsden for being an all-round jolly decent chap and allowing the DWP to cover the convention.
Leeson is back from warmer climes and is in the campervan alongside a decidely pale James to talk about Doctor Who.
Being a geek out, there is no script, no plan, and no idea. The only clue we can give you about what they cover is that it has something to do with Doctor Who.
We’ve said too much – just dive in and enjoy.
It is always a fun episode when we delve into the DWP mailbag, and this time is no different.
In this episode Michele and Trevor listen to and read out feedback from all over our great planet regarding your thoughts on Series 7B.
On Saturday 1st June, the BBC annouced that Matt Smith is to leave the role of The Doctor in the 2013 Christmas Special. So after three and half years, we have but two episodes of Doctor Who featuring Matt Smith left. Join us in the campervan for this special edition of the DWP as Trevor and James assimilate, cogitate and digest the information.
Feedback always welcome: send it to us at [email protected].
Now the dust has settled with the Name of the Doctor having screened and most (but not all!) of the secrets have been revealed, Ian and Tom push back in a lazy chair and discuss Series 7B as a whole. Their highlights, their lowlights, what worked, what didn’t, and the magic time travelling properties of coffee.
All this and so much more in another episode of THE Doctor Who Podcast.
We are finally here. The long journey that began way back in September 2012 comes to an end with The Name of the Doctor. Comes to an end, but also tantalises us with the voyage we have ahead of us in this anniversary.
An eager Trevor, James and Tom are in the campervan this time around, all bursting at the seams to share their thoughts on the final story of Series 7.
We also want to hear your feedback too! Get it in pronto to [email protected].
This episode of the THE Doctor Who Podcast has it all. Spoiler filled (and appropriately flagged) discussion, potted reviews of the episodes so far, and the return of The Onion Boy, Tom to the hallowed kitchen of the DWP Campervan.
A truly wide ranging discussion on all things Who, an episode not to be missed.
It’s not just reimagined Cybermen making a return this week, Ian makes a return to the Campervan too. Oh, and Stephen, after guesting on last week’s show has made himself comfortable and joins us once again – the campervan is full this week! Join the lads for for an ‘upgraded’ DWP as they appraise Neil Gaiman’s second Doctor Who script, Nightmare In Silver. Tune in to find out if they give it the thumbs up – or use the Cybermen’s immortal cry of ‘Delete, Delete, Delete’!
It’s another episode of The Doctor Who Podcast and this time, Trevor and James are joind by Stephen Prescott of A Madman With Box Podcast fame. Join the lads as they talk about Mark Gatiss’ second script of this year’s run of episodes. What did they make of it?! They also take some time to talk about Doctor Who in the fiftieth anniversary year – just how is the celebratory year going so far and what can we look forward to over the next twelve months or so?
In this episode you will be treated to an array of feedback from our wonderful listeners for the stories The Bells of St John, The Rings of Akhaten, Cold War and Hide.
Michele and Trevor take you though opinions, theories (kooky or otherwise), discussion and an unhealthy level of usage of the word Akhaten.
This week The DWP bring you a review from the very epicentre of the Campervan – the kitchen. Joined by their good friend Michael from the Tin Dog Podcast Trevor and James review Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS.
It’s another interview special! This time, James was fortunate enough to interview Louise Jameson on stage at the recent Big Blue Box 2 convention held in Tunbridge Wells. As many of you will know, Louise appeared as Leela in forty episodes of Doctor Who with Tom Baker back in the seventies. Louise was an absolute joy to speak to and fondly reminisced about her time on Doctor Who. Join her and James as she discusses Leela, Big Finish, Tom Baker, directing Katy Manning and her forays into writing and directing.
Thanks to Stephen Elsden, the Commander-in-Chief of the Big Blue Box conventions which are run in aid of Compaid – a charity providing services to disabled people in the South East of England.
James and Trevor have the absolute hide this week to bring you their review of the new story Hide.
The review was recorded whilst hiding in their newly constructed duck hide, laying on the hides of at least 15 different animals. This new addition to the Campervan complex is called “The Hideout”, though you will neither hide nor hair of a mention of this on the official drawings.
So find your favourite hiding place, pop your earphones in and join James and Trevor in their discussion of Hide.
Two hundred! Two hundred episodes of THE Doctor Who podcast! One hundred and ninety-nine episodes since that review of The Eleventh Hour all the way back in 2010! Woo-hoo!
How then, should we celebrate such a landmark? What would be appropriate?! Hmmm. We at The DWP thought long and hard on this. There could be so many ways to celebrate this historic occasion and say thank you to our devoted listeners. We came up with a couple of ideas:
We rejected these plainly insane ideas, and after much discussion finally made a decision. How about a never-before-heard interview with an iconic Who writer who sadly is no longer with us? A writer who assisted in giving us War Lords, Draconians, Silurians and Sea Devils?! Yes. Yes indeed. That might be just the way to go!
It is therefore with immense pride that The Doctor Who Podcast presents an interview with none other than Mr Malcolm Hulke!
But why stop there?! Mac, as he preferred to be called struck up a collaborative writing relationship with a man who also went on to become a Who legend in his own right. Why not interview him too and ask him about his memories of Mac? We therefore also bring you a brand new interview with Mr Terrance Dicks!
So, sit back and enjoy an hour in the company of Messrs Dicks and Hulke as they talk about the show they help immortalise, all in one juicy, celebratory edition of The Doctor Who Podcast.
Happy 200 everyone. You may now provide cake.
Things get decidedly chilly in the DWP Campervan this week as Trevor, Leeson and James review the latest episode of Doctor Who – Cold War.
Yes, it’s the highly anticipated return of the Ice Warriors and our intrepid reviewing team revel in the opportunity to discuss a new Ice Warrior story.
To help prepare themselves for this episode, the boys sat in a cramped cupboard together for a week and poured water over their heads every three minutes whilst watching The Hunt for Red October on a continuous loop.
They talk about submarines, the 1980s, Russians and what, just what – precisely if you please – is the correct definition of a cyborg.
Be sure to tune in midweek for the 200th edition of The Doctor Who Podcast – we have something really rather special for you…..
As always, feedback is MOST welcome – send it to [email protected]“>[email protected].
James and Trevor are in the Campervan this week after tuning into watch the latest episode of Doctor Who, The Rings of Akhaten. They might even try to sing their version of the choral song used throughout the story. No, don’t worry, they don’t really. Or do they…..
So what did the DWP Campervan crew make of this episode? Innovative storytelling at it best or just plain strange?! There’s only one way you’re going to get to find out……
Remember to send us your feedback – [email protected].
In a very special episode of the Doctor Who Podcast, it’s time to take you back to where it all began.
In 2009, two men had a dream, create an episode of the DWO WhoCast in which everything was made up, not a single thing was true.
They even created a special day on the calendar to release this episode – April 1.
The rest, as they say, is history, legend. Stories passed down through the generations about the episode of the DWO WhoCast, reviewing the mystical episode The Spume of Destiny.
Missing, believed wiped for many years, this episode of the DWO WhoCast has been returned to the archives and can now be presented again to be enjoyed by a new generation of fans.
Our thanks go to Seb over at Doctor Who Online for facilitating the return of this episode.
It’s back! After what seems like an eternity (but in reality, is actually just three months) Doctor Who is back on our tellyscreens. Huzzah! Typically, it’s at this time of year that Trev goes walkabout so James and Michele are left to steer the campervan – but are joined by the fabulous Laura (no, not the ood one), a long-term supporter of the show and has has kinda assumed the role of ‘roving DWP reporter’ of late – she helped to cover the recent Big Finish Day (interviews will be forthcoming) and has attended the BFI screenings with Ian and James this year.
So what did this new DWP campervan-combo think of the series 7b opener, The Bells of St. John? Tune in, download and find out! But don’t click. Don’t even click. Click, and you’re dead.
A big week here in the DWP Campervan here at the compound.
Trevor, James and Leeson wrap their heads around the epic new series episode from last Friday night – Remembrance of the Spume. As we see Season 14 coming to a close the revelations are coming thick and fast, and this story is no exception! Is there enough in this story to keep long term fans happy and new fans entertained? Can the show recover from the “Mars Colony” incident?
Ian and Michele keep the Big Finish reviews coming, and take a look and listen to the latest adventure – Clink.
Onion Boy makes his triumphant return to the DWP airwaves after his enforced cyro-sleep and makes some interesting observations on the question that must not be answered…
As always, get your feedback in via the usual means. We look forward to hearing from you.
As is customary at the DWP before we launch into a new series of Doctor Who, we have a look at the information we know so far about the upcoming stories and see if we can figure out what they are about.
The investigation team of Trevor, James and Ian have scoured the internet, looked under the floorboards and tried a sneaky mind-meld with Stephen Moffat to bring you the good oil on Series 7B.
As we are discussing spoilers about unaired stories, if you are sensitive to these sorts of things, this probably isn’t the episode for you. We do not talk about anything that isn’t already publically available.
Ian and Michele also have a chat about Life Without the Ponds – we are entering an era of the show that does not have our second favourite married couple as part of the TARDIS crew. Will the show survive?
We return to the deep bountiful well of Big Finish in this episode, with Michele and Trevor reviewing one of the latest trilogies from Big Finish. Sylvester McCoy as the 7th Doctor takes centre stage in the audios Protect & Survive, Black & White and Gods & Monsters.
We also feature the second part of our Seventh Heaven series, in which Stephen Elsden continues his journey through the previously unseen era of the 7th Doctor.
James and Ian were lucky enough to attend the recent Big Blue Box convention at the Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells. Attending were a whole galaxy of Doctor Who stars, including:
In this episode we bring you some short interviews James and Ian were lucky enough to record with the above gentlemen and talk Doctor Who (naturally!). Two more longer panel are to yet to come, so keep an ear open for them on upcoming podcasts!
A big thank you to Stephen Elsden for organising this amazing convention in aid of Compaid and also affording The Doctor Who Podcast access to the guests and facilities on the day.
Its been ages since we have talked just news, news and more news on the Doctor Who Podcast. In this jam packed episode we talk about the latest news in the Doctor Who universe.
In this episode James and Trevor talk news. And more news. And then once they have talked about that, they talk about some more news.
Also James has a chat to Stephen Elsden, organiser of Big Blue Box 2, who for some reason has never viewed a single 7th Doctor story. James is on a mission to set that right, and you can listen to the first instalment of his quest in this episode.
The DWP campervan and its inhabitants return with another amazing Doctor Who Podcast Quiz showdown!
In this instalment, Ian, Trevor and Leeson are subject to the baffling questions ofJames.
Note that this quiz was recorded before the lads embarked on their trip across the pond to the Gallifrey convention.
This week on the Doctor Who Podcast Trevor, James, Ian and Leeson throw out the schedule, give scant regard to planning, and laugh in the face of anything close to a script.
Yes, it’s another of our internationally renowned Geek Outs!
A diverse array of topics are discussed, ranging from animation, Doctor Who trolls and Mindwarp.
Join the boys as they throw caution and common sense to the wind.
James, Ian and Michele were lucky enough to attend the Gallifrey convention in Los Angeles this year, and now that they have returned to their respective parts of the world they come together again in the Campervan to discuss what they thought of the 24th Gallifrey convention.
Ian and Michele also review the final two stories in the Big Finish Counter Measures box set.
Today the DWP present the second epic quiz showdown that took place at the recent Gallifrey convention in Los Angeles.
In this mighty battle is the long awaited rematch between the DWP (championed byJames, Ian, Michele and ring in Luke from the Minute Doctor Who Podcast) and those lyrical funsters The Oodcast.
Keen listeners to the DWP might remember the previous Gallifrey quiz between these two podcast behemoths, and it didn’t go too well for the boys from the DWP…
What will happen this time? Will the Oods be triumphant again? Or will the DWP (and a ring in) wrestle back the title of quiz champions?
Hosted once again by friend of the show Andrew Smith (who stood in valiantly at the last minute in place of Ed Stradling), we will see who is victorious, and who headed off to the convention closing ceremony with their tails tucked firmly between their legs.
A big, big thank you goes out to Chip from the Two Minute Timelord Podcast for going above and beyond the call of duty to secure this particular recording of the quiz for us.
We all have our own guilty pleasures. Whether it be that sneaky trip to the fridge at midnight to have chomp on that chocolate bar without having to share it or taking delight in sitting down to enjoy The Phantom Menace, engaging in activities we know would raise eyebrows from our peers makes our guilty pleasures all the more enjoyable!
Doctor Who is the same. We all enjoy parts of the show that others frown upon. Our own little moments of joy in a show that might not necessarily be considered as such by other fans.
In this episode, Tom and Leeson discuss their own Who related guilty pleasures, along with Ian and Michele’s own secret loves from the shows history.
Tom and Leeson also find time to discuss what is happening currently in the world of Doctor Who. With that in mind, for those that are sensitive to spoilers, it may be best to avoid the first 16 minutes of this episode. The conversation is only slightly spoilerish – Tom and Leeson allude to facts already officially released and publicly available. Neither rumoured plot points or unofficial news is discussed.
A very special quiz this time around from the Doctor Who Podcast.
We present today the first of two quizzes that our very own Campervan inhabitants took part in whilst enjoying the delights of the Gallifrey One convention in Los Angeles.
For this quiz Ian and James went up against the quizzing might of Josh and Steve from The Memory Cheats podcast.
Quiz master is friend of the show Andrew Smith, writer of the 80s story, Full Circle.
And hosting proceedings (which really just gives him an excuse to make some cheap shots at the contestants) is another dear friend of the show, Chip, host of the Two Minute Timelord podcast.
Two mighty teams, with thousands of kilometres of water between them, brought together to compete in the quizzing arena. Exciting huh?
Thanks to Chip for making the audio recording of this mighty battle available to the DWP.
It’s another journey into the world of Big Finish – join Trevor, Leeson and Tom as they take a look at this Fifth Doctor, Turlough, Nyssa and Tegan trilogy released towards the end of 2012. This eclectic collection of stories sees the TARDIS materialise in Calcutta, on a meteor and in Australia proving once again just how inventive the minds of those amazing bods at Big Finish really are.
But did the Campervan occupants like them? Never a podcast to hold back, tune in to this latest edition of The Doctor Who Podcast to find out. Howzat?!
In just a few days, the DWP Campervan will be packing up and preparing itself for dematerialisation. The co-ordinates are set for Los Angeles where hoards of Doctor Who fans will be travelling to from all four corners of the globe to celebrate fifty years of the show we call Doctor Who at the annual Gallifrey One convention.
Sadly, some of the Campervan occupants will be absent – Trev, Leeson and Tom’s invites failed to show up at the correct space-time co-ordinates, and they are therefore destined to miss the campervan’s departure – in very a similar way that Tegan missed the TARDIS at the end of Timeflight. Will they end up in Amsterdam? Let hope not. For Amsterdam’s sake.
In the meantime, pull up a chair a listen to Chip from the highly acclaimed Two Minute Timelord podcast and Chris from The Oodcast as they chat toJames about their imminent travel plans, panels, podcast panels, cosplay – you name it, they chat about it.
This IS our preview of The 24 Hours of Gallifrey – and you are MOST welcome!
The last in our current series of Burning Issues here at the DWP – the thorny subject of “How Far Can Sacred Cows be Pushed?” How much that we hold dear about our beloved program is open to reinterpretation, reimagining and redesign and how much about the history of the show do we need to consider when creating more of it?
In the Campervan alongsideJames and Trevor is a special guest to help get to the bottom of this complex issue – the host of A Mad Man with a Box Podcast, Stephen Prescott.
In a short break from our Burning Issues mini-series, James and Michele take a look at some of the recent Big Finish special releases and discuss the new adaption of Love and War and also take a look at the two Sixth Doctor, Jago and Litefoot stories, Voyage to Venus and Voyage to the New World. James also gets to chat to Bernard Holley who stars in Love and War. All that and a competition to boot!
James also caught up with Stephen and got an update on the exciting goings on at the upcoming Big Blue Box 2 convention.
This week is the second of our Burning Issues series – trying to provide answers and debate around some of the touchstones that have cropped up during a past Doctor Who Podcast.
Today we have been charged by ALMANAC (A Love and Monsters Appreciation nnnnddd Activity Club) to get to the bottom of an issue. Love and Monsters, the first true Doctor-lite episode in the modern era of the program – is it comedy genius or not worthy of the logo?
Tasked to discuss this issue are Trevor, James and Michele.
As always, we want the listeners of The DWP to decide this stories fate. Get your thoughts in to [email protected]“>[email protected].
This week the first in our series of Burning Issues – unresolved questions posed on the Doctor Who Podcast in previous episodes that we hope to be able to provide answers for.
The first of these is in response to a statement Tom made on a previous DWP – that the classic series story Genesis of the Daleks should be “put in a box and buried”, further stating it was the worst story of the first twenty years of the program.
Such an assertion could not go unchallenged. So we have put Tom on trial in this episode – he must answer for his most heinous crime. The case for the defence and prosecution will be set, then it will be up to you, our wonderful listeners to decide on the verdict. Let us know at [email protected]“>[email protected] just where Genesis of the Daleks should sit in the history of the show.
Welcome to another fun packed year of THE Doctor Who Podcast, the friendliest, most stylish, informative and most importantly totally FREE podcast out there!
It wouldn’t be a new year of THE Doctor Who Podcast without the hosts speculating on what will happen in the Doctor Who universe in 2013, the anniversary year for this amazing show. Trev, James and Leeson offer up their suggestions for what will be going on this year, partly cause it is fun to guess, but mainly because we look forward to revisiting them again in a years time and see how badly we were wrong!
The team also go over the predictions from the beginning of 2012 and see how many of them came true.
Share your thoughts on what you think is a sure fire bet in 2013. [email protected]“>[email protected] is the place to send those musings.
We bring you a very special episode of the DWP this week –James spoke to DVD value-added-material producer, Mr Ed Stradling. Ed is responsible for producing a ridiculously high number of extra features that have been included on Doctor Who DVDs, the first of which saw the likes of Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss talk about Earthshock all the way back in 2003! Ed also talks about Ian Levene’s project to re-construct Planet of the Giants back into the four part-story originally conceived, the results of which appear on the DVD, and discusses rumours about missing stories being found.
So sit down with a cuppa tea, put your feet up and listen toJames and Ed talk Doctor Who for half an hour!
In what will be the DWPs last podcast for 2012, we go over the feedback which we have received from you regarding the 2012 Christmas special, The Snowmen.
Be warned, there are multiple kooky theories, time eddies and informed comments abound in this episode!
A big thanks from the whole DWP team for your support this year and we hope you have enjoyed the podcasts from us. A bigger year for 2013 is planned, with more interviews, exclusives and special themed shows than ever before. Have a great New Year and see you all in 2013, the anniversary year!
Now that you have celebrated Doctor Who, Christmas-style, let the DWP team of Trevor, James and Tom take you on another special journey.
The boys, full of Christmas food settle down to review the latest offering from the Doctor Who production team, the 2012 Christmas special, The Snowmen.
A special snowmen themed DWP feedback episode will be released next week, and you still have time to get in your audio feedback concerning the Christmas special!
We have been on a long journey in our look at the world of the 10th Doctor, but before we leave this era we have diverted up a little side street to take a look at some of the novels featuring the 10th Doctor and his various companions. As well as an extensive television history to enjoy, the books provide further enjoyment for those looking for more adventures featuring this most human of Doctors.
Four books go under the microscope in this episode
Also Ian and Michele review the audio book The Last Voyage by Dan Abnett.
And our big thanks go to Steve from The Whostorian podcast and the assorted hordes from the Staggering Stories podcast for providing readings from our novels.
Last month, the assembled hordes of Doctor Who fans across the planet descended upon the United States third largest city, Chicago. The DWP was represented in the form of our very own Michele who in additional to being on the podcasting panel, spoke to Messrs Richard Dinnick and Paul Spragg. Richard has written extensively for Big Finish in both the written and audio formats whilst Paul, Big Finish employee-extraordinaire and serial crisp eater talks about Doctor Who on audio and the plans that Big Finish have for the future.
Join Tom and Michele as they bring you our coverage of the convention which showcased none other than Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred as headliners and a host of other Dr Who luminaries.
All good things must come to an end, and in this episode we say goodbye to David Tennant as the 10th Doctor and the DWPs look at his era of the show.
With only the specials of 2009/2010 left, the 10th Doctor somehow knows the end is near. How will he cope with the impending prophecies?
LetJames, Leeson and Trevor take your hand and guide you to the end of arguably the most popular Doctor of the modern era.
Trev, Leeson and James forge on with our indepth 10th Doctor retrospective, looking over the era of the show dominated by actor David Tenant.
In this episode we look at Christmas specials, the year that was in 2008 and cast our eye forward to the inevitable end to this incarnation.
Join our very own roving reporterJames, Luke from The Minute Doctor Who Podcast and friend of the show and long-time DWP listener Tony as they talk about what they thought of Air Lock – episode 3 of the missing story, Galaxy 4.
The British Film Institute screened the restored episode as part of the Missing Belived Wiped event held on Sunday 2nd December 2012. This was only the second time the episode has been shown in full to an audience in the UK and you can hear the joy asJames, Luke and Tony talk about what can justifiably be described as new Doctor Who, despite it being first transmitted on BBC1 forty-seven years ago!
2007 was a strange time for Doctor Who – now established as a regular piece of Saturday night telly for three months each year, what would the production team be able to come up with to prevent the interest of millions of viewers from waning? Large hybrid human/rhinos of course! Join the DWP team for part two of their romp through the David Tennant years. Series three is put under the microscope asJames, Trevor and Leeson sit down and talk about Martha, pocket-watches, Derek Jacobi and a certain deified Time Lord.
Make sure you join Leeson and Trevor for part three of our Tenth Doctorathon next week.
James talks to Stephen Elsden, the Commander-in-Chief of the Big Blue Box Convention that re-materialises in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday 16 March 2013.
The popular one day convention for fans of Doctor Who rematerialises at Trinity Theatre to mark the 50th anniversary of everyone’s favourite time traveller.
The event will include panel discussions with audience Q&As, a live debate, charity auction, special screenings, signings and stalls.
Guests (subject to work commitments) include LouiseJameson (Leela), Sarah Sutton (Nyssa), Simon Fisher-Becker (Dorium Maldovar) and from inside the Daleks, operators Cy Town and Nicholas Pegg. They’ll be joined by writers and commentators including Simon Guerrier, Gary Russell, Nigel Fairs, Richard Bignell, Will Howells and Jonathan Morris, along with Doctor Who composer Mark Ayres and audio actor and comedian Michael Fenton-Stevens.
The day will conclude with a special performance of Toby Hadoke’s sell out Edinburgh show, My Stepson Stole my Sonic Screwdriver.
Tickets are available online from the Trinity Theatre website or by phoning 01892 678678.
All proceeds from this event will go to Compaid, a local charity supporting disabled people
Part one of our Tenth Doctor Retrospective is finally here – join Trevor, Leeson and James as they calmly and reasonably debate Doctor Who in 2006. Listen as no furniture flies through the air. Revel in the tranquility as scerene and articlate as views are exchanged in a loving and caring campervan atmosphere. In fact, use this podcast as a theraputic relaxation tool to take a break from the madness of this crazy world we all inhabit!
On serious note (well, relatively) this episode sees the DWP team start another of their seemingly very popular era-retrospectives. The tenth Doctor’s era is a funny one – on one hand it feels very recent, but in this episode the boys find themselves talking about episodes that were first transmitted on BBC1 six years ago. SIX years ago!
The lads are back next week in part two to talk about Shakespeare, Martha and Masters in Series 3.
You may have heard of a little show called I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! which has been going for quite some time in the UofK. D-List celebrities are thrown into an Australian wilderness area and forced to eat bugs, undertake ridiculous challenges and spending long nights trying to figure out who is the least obscure amongst them.
Our very own Doctor Who, Colin Baker is making an appearance this season, and James and Trevor chat about just why the Doctor of the multi-coloured coat is willing to make a multi-coloured fool of himself on this program.
The boys also chat about our very own Michele’s appearance at the upcoming Chicago TARDIS, and we launch yet another incredible competition for a very special prize that is definately worth fighting for.
It’s been a long time between drinks in the Doctor Who Podcast quizzing arena, but the boys are back to pit their wits against the best Doctor Who has to offer.
In this instalment of this epic battle, our very own Ian is the quizmaster, throwing the verbal conundrums up against Trevor, James and Leeson.
The eternal questions have to be asked – who will be victorious, and who will will be left crying into their warm milk? And on what question will Trev spit his dummy on this time?
Only one way to find out!
The DWP Campervan this week is getting a little crafty. The dining room table is covered in paints, crayons and half finished sketches of John Barrowman.
The lounge suite is swimming in a sea of different coloured wools, so much it would put that witty knitter Madame Nostradamus to shame.
And the kitchen. Let’s just say it will take a little while to clear up the paper mache, glue and tinsel.
What is all this for you may ask? Well, Trevor, Leeson and Tom have been delving into the wonderful world of fan creativity, in its many guises and forms.
Doctor Who fans certainly are a talented lot, and we have found a few that we wish to share with you today.
Discussed in this episode are the following gems of fandom imagination:
There is plenty more out there to be had, so treat yourself on a rainy afternoon to a feast of Doctor Who, fan-style.
We also have an interview with Paul Scoones, author of the Comic Strip Companion Volume 1, published by those book boffins at Telos Publishing. This book has started the long journey of chronicling the Doctor’s adventures in the comic strip form. We also give you a chance to win a copy of this fantastic book.
And if that wasn’t enough to keep you going tis episode, Ian and Michele complete their review of the Big Finish I, Davros series.
A chance for the strange inhabitants of the DWP Campervan, otherwise known as Trevor, Leeson and Ian to let their hair down and talk an even higher level of nonsense than is typical in a podcast. Yes ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for another world famous DWP Geek Out!
Topics plucked from nowhere this episode include:
Ian and Michele also share with us their review of the first portions of the I Davros series from Big Finish.
No sniggering down the back there! This is serious! THIS. IS. PODCASTING!
Step inside the DWP campervan for a final look back at the series 7. Did the five episodes live up to their ‘movie of the week’ billing promulgated by Mr Moffat and his team? Or did they fall – well, just a little bit flat? What of the ‘standalone, no-arc’ policy? Did it work? Was it even true?! Will you miss the Ponds? Did they have a happy or sad farwell? Will we see them again?! And just how much of a coincidence was it that the Statue of Liberty was exactly the right height so that her head poked menacingly above the roof-edge at Winter Quay?!
So many questions! Join Trevor (he’s back!) and James (he’s s still here) as they attempt to answer some of these, and some other, more sensible ones posed by our listeners!
Feedback always welcome – send it to [email protected]“>[email protected].
In this episode of the Doctor Who Podcast Michele and Ian present a very exciting interview with composer Andrew Edwards. Andrew is responsible for the music in a Big Finish Companion Chronicle called The Wanderer.
Michele talks with Andrew about the process behind how a Big Finish score is produced. There are some fascinating insights into an area of Doctor Who production that is rarely talked about.
And if that wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, you get Ian on the drums. Animal, eat your heart out!
Ladies and Gentlemen, we have great pleasure in bringing you an exclusive, never heard before interview with none other than The Master himself, Mr Anthony Ainley. The interview was recorded by friend of the show Martin Spellacey in 1981 whilst he was being driven across London by Anthony on his way back from a Doctor Who Convention.
Anthony is relaxed and playful as he candidly discusses Doctor Who and his role in it, Tom Baker, Sarah Sutton, Doctor Who Monthly, cricket and girls. He even breaks into song on a couple of occassions…..! Sit back and enjoy time-travel in action. Anthony Ainley speaking to you from across the ages, thirty years ago – it’s a joy to behold.
Thanks go to Martin from Bristol Community Radio who recorded the interview all those years ago and got in touch with us.
The except from the song ‘The Mind of Evil’ is performed by Billy Davies and used with his kind permission. Leeson Fischer and Harry Medium come with their own health warning that is not possible to emphasise enough using mere words.
Thanks also to the myriad of Doctor Who Podcasters to feature on this episode of the DWP!
Well. That was it! Everything seems strange and lonely now. The first five epsiodes of season seven are now a thing of the past. There’s no more new Doctor Who to watch on our tellyboxes until Christmas. What we are going to do on Saturday evenings now? Hmmm. Watch Doctor Who DVD’s probably….. Anyway, Tom and James sit down and talk about The Angels Take Manhattan. They’re visited by non-linear versions of Ian and Trevor in their respective time bubbles.
Episode 167 will be our season seven wrap-up and feedback episode, so send your audio thoughts and musings to us at [email protected].
Join Tom, James and Leeson as they get ready for the mid-season finale of series seven of Doctor Who! Can it be just a month ago that we all sat down in front of our telly boxes, oozing strange anticipatory juices from secretions we didn’t know we had?
The chaps take a pause for breath before the last episode of Dr Who for almost three months airs this coming Saturday. Speculation and guesswork abound – but for those of you with a spoilery disposition, there is a two minute conversation during this episode about a controversial trailer for Angels that as you read this, has already aired in Canada. Leeson gives a clear warning before we start discussing that point which might be a notch or two above some sensitive listener’s spoiler threshold.
We’ll be back in episode 166 after Angels has aired – sadly however, this will not be straight after the programme transmits in the UK this time – you’ll have to wait until Tuesday!!
Feedback always welcome – email us [email protected]“>[email protected]
Writer Chris Chibnall’s second story for Series 7 – The Power of Three goes under the DWP microscope this episode.
Ian and James are in the review seats this episode and are joined later on by a mysterious Leeson in a time-eddy. Really.
The feedback has been pouring into the DWP inbox over the past few weeks, full of your comments on the first few episodes from Season 7.
In this episode, Trevor, Michele and Tom go through the feedback received.
And since they have been absent from the initial review eps, they also share their thoughts on the first three episodes.
Well, oh mercy me! What do we have here, wandering into my little establishment! What do you call yourself, stranger?
The D, W, P… pod-cast you say? Interesting. Never heard of no pod-cast in these here parts before.
So beg my asking, but just what does a D, W, P pod-cast actually do?
A review you say? Surely you aren’t reviewing pretty little me? Oh my!
Oh, not me… you are reviewing? A what, a T V show? Doctor Who?
No I profess to not knowing what in heaven this thing called a T V is, but surely the good Doctor has a last name? I can’t be calling a gentlemen Doctor Who, now can I?
Oh, I see. How bizarre.
Well, why don’t you seat yourself down in that chair and tell me all about this T V show? Does this show have a name, or do I call it Who as well?
A Town Called Mercy? Lordy be, what a funny name! Tell me all about it. Don’t be long now you here, I have chores to attend to.
You’ve just watched some old dinosaurs on a spaceship, now listen to a few old dinosaurs in the Doctor Who Podcast Campervan talk about the latest episode from this short and sweet run of Doctor Who – Dinosaurs on a Spaceship!

Get your feedback in pronto, as a super-duper dinosaur-sized feedback DWP is planned for Episode 163. [email protected]“>[email protected].
A short break from the excitement that is Season 7 of Doctor Who.
James and Leeson bring you a fantastic interview from Whooverville 4, one of the greatest conventions on the planet.
They were lucky enough to sit down with classic Doctor Who companion, Peter Purves.
Peter played Steven Taylor, the fiesty companion to the 1st Doctor, William Hartnell from 1965 to 1966. He has also been involved with various Big Finish companion chronicles.
Settle back for what is an enjoyable interview with Peter Purves.
You’ve watched the episode, now listen to the review.
James, Leeson and Ian give you their thoughts on this much anticipated Season 7 opening story.
Not much more to say really. Enjoy!

In this episodeJames, Leeson, Tom and Ian share with you their NON-spoilery thoughts of the first episode from the new series of Doctor Who – Asylum of the Daleks.
The lads were lucky enough to attend the BFI screening of this episode on the 14th August and recorded a bit of a live show where they discuss the story, and some of the interesting titbits that came out of the lively Q&A session afterwards.
In a bumper episode of the Doctor Who PodcastJames and Leeson talk about one of the latest trilogies from the magnificent bods at Big Finish.
The multi-colour coated one, the 6th Doctor gets an outing in a series of plays – Curse of Davros, The Fourth Wall and Wirrn Isle.
James also quizzes Leeson on his viewing of Planet of the Spiders, which was the winner of our little competition back in episode 151.

This quiz has Tom asking the questions to the three nervous lads in the Campervan.
Who will come out victorious? Who will go away and cry into their Doctor Who episode guide? Who will get the honour of asking the questions for Quiz 13? Have a listen and find out!
The inner-child is revealed in this episode of the Doctor Who Podcast, with Trevor, James and Tom raiding their toy cupboards and reminiscing about the wonderful world of Doctor Who toys and collectables.
One of the big problems putting out one of the finest Doctor Who podcasts on the planet is we also attract some of the finest Doctor Who fans on the planet, who email us with the finest feedback on the planet.
So we devote an podcast to digging deep into the email inbox and sampling some fine thoughts from you our awesome listeners.
Leeson and James have the feedbacking duties this time, and cover a wide range of topics such as least favourite stories, Dragonfire rants and much much more.
Well, its taken close to six months, but Leeson has finally drawn the attention away from the other three wanabee regulars of the campervan and managed to shine the spotlight on himself.
It’s all about Leeson for this episode of the Doctor Who Podcast, where we try and help Leeson decide what classic Doctor Who episode to watch next.
But surely Leeson has seen them all, just like the other three main hosts, we hear you cry? Apparently not, and it is up to Trev, James and Tom to state their cases for some of their picks from Leeson’s pile of unwatched shame.
Which stories hasn’t Leeson seen? Which one will he pick? Will there be any justice as the boys wage the battle for Leeson’s eyeballs?
Join James and Leeson and they bring you a special edition of the Doctor Who Podcast. The chaps are joined by the charismatic organiser of the already iconic Whooverville conventions, Mr Stephen Hatcher. Whooverville has established itself as laid back, intimate event on the convention circuit, mainly by holding its first two events in a railway shed in darkest Derbyshire. Now in its fourth year, Whooverville has moved to a new, gleaming, shiny venue in central Derby. James, Leeson and Steve chat about Whooverville’s past and look forward to the next event, Whooverville 4, being held on 1st September 2012 where attendees will be joined by Peter Purves, Terry Malloy, Richard Franklin, Donald Gee for a day of geekiness.
Also, Steve announces a thus-far unannounced guest Whooverville 4 guest exclusively on this very DWP – and frankly, this new guest makes the event an even more exciting prospect! Tune in to find out just who is coming to Whooverville…..!!
Check out Whooverville 4’s facebook page where you can keep abreast with current developments, find out information about tickets, the venue and even say how excited you are about it!
We got a bit of the fit of the giggles in the DWP Campervan this week when we realised we had reached the lofty heights of Episode 150 of the Doctor Who Podcast. So it seemed only apt that we talk about comedy and its relationship with our favourite program, Doctor Who.
And who better than to talk about comedy, but a comedian? Long time contributor to the show Ashley Frieze finally takes up a pink vinyl seat in the Campervan alongside Trev, James, Tom and Leeson and talks about what has made us laugh in Doctor Who. We also discuss comedians who have made the leap from standup to Doctor Who as well as comedy gold and misfires.
Ian and Michele also join the fun and discuss – The Horns of Nimon – proper story or panto?
Throw into the mix a few DWP skits and sketches, as well as a song from Ashley, and you have the 150th episode of the DWP!
Well, we come to the end of our memorable journey through Iceworld, with this, the commentary track for Episode 3 of Dragonfire.
And who better than to bring you to its epic conclusion that Leeson and Ian? The boys guide you though face melting, deaths, companion swaps and bewildering little girls who have no meaning to the plot.
We hope you have enjoyed our romp through Dragonfire this week.
The commentary for Dragonfire continues with the second episode. In the commentary hot seats for this episode areJames and Tom.
As with Episode 1 of this commentary, there are clear instructions within the file of how to sync it up with your copy of Dragonfire so you can join along and watch the story whilst listening toJames and Tom.
As the build up begins to our 150th episode next week, we present to you this week commentary tracks for the 150th classic series story – the Seventh Doctor adventure Dragonfire.
Our story begins on Iceworld, a trading port on the dark side of planet Svartos, the Doctor chances across Sabalom Glitz and joins him on a treasure hunt in the frozen caverns of the planet where a dragon is rumored to resides. Meanwhile Mel and a recently fired waitress named Ace run afoul of Kane, the icy director of Iceworld, whose frozen touch means death.
Trevor and Michele are your hosts to guide you through this first of three Dragonfire episodes.
You can join along with the fun too. If you have a copy of Dragonfire, the commentary audio can be watched alongside the episode itself. Just pop your DVD, VHS etc copy into your player, and follow the instructions in the audio itself for when to press play, and you too can be experiencing Dragonfire alongside Michele and Trev.
The remaining two episodes will be released over the coming week, keep an eye out for them!
Welcome to another week of THE Doctor Who Podcast, quite simply the finest Doctor Who podcast around and frankly you should feel honoured and humbled as this episode downloads its way to you!
A very intimate affair this week, with Trevor and Ian together in the Campervan, having a bit of a geek out. The hoary subject of Doctor Who canon is the main subject of the day, and the chaps discuss its relevance or otherwise to Doctor Who.
Make sure you have your downloading devices at the ready next week as we begin our lead-up to our 150th episode, with a very special series of releases from The Doctor Who Podcast.
It is Tom and Trev’s turn this week to share their least favourite stories from the 6th Doctor through to the present Doctor.
We also have a stab at trying to pick our least favourite story from the 1st to 5th Doctor eras.
Ian and Michele also chip in with their least favourites as well.
We have already devoted episodes to our favourite Doctor Who episodes, now its time to explore the seedier side of Doctor Who as the team talks about their least favourites.
First up isJames and Michele who discuss their least favourite stories from the 1st through to the 5th Doctors.
Prepare to be amazed, outraged, surprised and disgusted!
Trev, James, Tom and Leeson have a bit of a geekout this week about the effect of social media on Doctor Who, and the way we consume our favourite show.
With the explosion over the last decade of sites like Facebook and Twitter, the way Doctor Who fans get their news and talk about the show has changed dramatically.
With this change many benefits have occurred, but also there is a downside.
The boys discuss this issue and try and get to the bottom of the question “Is social media good for Doctor Who?”
As the title of this release suggests, quite a busy and eclectic week at the Doctor Who campervan.
First up is our look at Power of the Daleks – Reimagined, the fan film that sets to bring to life one of the classic and beloved stories from the Patrick Troughton era of Doctor Who.
We have an interview with the man who plays the Doctor, Nick Scovell, and producer/DOP/tea maker Rob Thrush.
We review Power of the Daleks – Reimagined to see how it stacks up against the story that inspired it. Ian and Michele also had a listen to an audio recording of the original 60s story and share their thoughts.
We also have an interview with Graeme Burk, one of the two authors of a marvellous Doctor Who reference book called Who is the Doctor.
Ian and Michele are back again to round off the episode with their review of the Big Finish audio The Catalyst.
The Doctor Who Podcast turns its steely gaze towards the Big Finish Towers this week as we look at the latest trilogy of Big Finish audios featuring the 8th Doctor, Paul McGann.
The Silver Turk, The Witch from the Well and Army of Death fall under the watchful eye ofJames, Tom and Ian.
Just Trevor and James to keep you entertained this episode as we again delve into the mailbag and see what delights lay within.
We also have a chat about Barry, the star of a recent episode of Get Your House In Order, a series where experts try and declutter peoples lives and help them with their hoarding tendencies. Barry has Doctor Who stuff, a lot of Doctor Who stuff. Trevor and James talk about how successful the shows attempts were to help him with his overwhelming collection.
Our love affair with Tom Baker and Big Finish continues with Leeson, Trevor and James reviewing the latest batch of Fourth Doctor and Leela adventures.
Renaissance Man, Wrath of the Iceni and Energy of the Daleks are popped into the tape deck for a listen. What will the verdict be?
The DWP Campervan goes literary this week and is awash with a myriad of titles based on the adventures of the 9th Doctor, Christopher Eccleston and his various TARDIS crew.
The four novels we are reviewing, forming our look at the 9th Doctor book range are
Ian and Michele also get into the book reading fun and review Only Human by Gareth Roberts.
We also review a book from the mighty pen of John Barrowman and his sister Carole – The Hollow Earth. You also have the chance to win your very own copy of this book.
We were also very lucky to coax some of our fellow podcasters and dear friends of the show to provide some readings of the books being reviewed. Our thanks to Laura from the Oodcast, Chip from the 2Minute Timelord, Erik from the Doctor Who Book Club Podcast, Michele from the DWP and her son Ken! Thank you all!
Tom was lucky enough to sit down with the Indiana Jones of Doctor Who, Paul Vanezis. Paul has been involved with the Doctor Who Restoration Team, as well as having a key hand in many of the many documentaries and special features on the Doctor Who DVD releases.
When he isn’t putting the spit and polish to existing episodes, he is out there searching out lost episodes. Paul can lay claim to returning many formerly lost Doctor Who episodes to the BBC archives.
Sit back and enjoy Tom’s chat with Paul about all things dusty, Doctor Who and DVDs.
The DWP goes scholarly this week with Leeson, Tom and Ian sitting back discussing the literary influences of Doctor Who.
What classic works has Doctor Who drawn its inspiration from, just what influences our favourite program?
A fascinating discussion from the boys from which we want your feedback!
In this episode of the Doctor Who Podcast Trevor was lucky enough to sit down and have a chat with writer Gareth Roberts.
Now if we had to link in the show notes to all the things Gareth has done in Doctor Who and Doctor Who related media the internet would likely melt down due to overload. Suffice to say Gareth has written for Doctor Who, The Sarah Jane Adventures and Big Finish. He has written short stories and full length novels featuring Doctors new and old.
The latest work from Gareth is a novelisation of the “lost” story of Doctor Who, Shada. This story has never enjoyed an official release in book form until now. Trevor talks to Gareth about the challenges of bringing this story to life in the printed form.
We also announce the winner of the Robert Shearman competition from Episode #130.
Tom, Leeson and James discuss the news surrounding the new series of Doctor Who which is currently filming.
Please note – this episode contains spoilers for information that has been officially released by the BBC and production team members such as Steven Moffat. A clear, and unmissable warning is given in the episode for when spoilers are afoot.
After a long and not necessarily planned hiatus, the DWP ventures into another quiz.
Leeson is quiz master this time around and pits the questions against an expectant Trevor, Tom and James.
Who will be the victor? Who will be left crying into their drinks?
Have a listen and find out!
James, Leeson and Ian were lucky enough to attend the Official Doctor Who convention in Cardiff recently and recorded a podcast while they were there.
James and Leeson chat about their experiences at the convention, whilst Ian was lucky enough to secure one of the passes to go and visit the TARDIS set. Ian recalls this once in a lifetime experience.
A very exciting day at the DWP Campervan as we announce another to our stunning line up of presenters. I hope you will make him very welcome!
We also delve into the mail bag and read feedback about the current Doctor, Mr Matt Smith.
Whilst Michele was at Gallifrey 23 in February waving the flag for the Doctor Who Podcast she was lucky enough to be able to sit down and interview actor Richard Franklin, who played Captain Mike Yates during the classic Doctor Who period from 1971 to 1974.
Michele talked with Richard about his time on the show, his forays into Big Finish and Michele’s own previous involvement with Richard in a production.
We had so much more feedback come in thatJames and Trevor decided to release this special episode to cover some of it.
We also manage to fit in a bit of a geek out about a few things too.
So, not sure if that makes this episode a FeedOut or a GeekBag. You decide.
Plenty packed into this weeks episode for you to enjoy.
First up are two interviews, both recorded during Trevor’s trip to Toowoomba last month. The first is with David Riley, organiser for the Toowoomba Local Group of the Doctor Who Club of Australia. Trevor talks with David about how he set up the club and the wonderful community of fans that exists in this regional area.
Next up Trevor spoke to Geoff Campbell, who has produced a replica TARDIS which sits pride of place in his front yard. Trevor talks to Geoff about the background of the project, and the challenges he faced building this replica, as well as the worldwide community of TARDIS builders that exists.
Ian and Michele review a Big Finish Companion Chronicle – Solitaire.

An extra special feature length episode of the Doctor Who Podcast this week in whichJames talks to Rob Shearman, who amongst his many achievements, brought the Daleks back to the new series in 2005.
He has also contributed serveral stories to the Big Finish range of audios, written books such as Tiny Deaths, Love Songs for the Shy and Cynical and Wanting to Believe, a look at the series XFiles and its spinoffs.
As if his day is not busy enough already, he hatched a plan with Toby Hadoke to sit down and not only watch every episode of Doctor Who, but write down his thoughts and put them in book form. The result, the book Running Through Corridors, has already seen its first volume released.
James sat down and talked to Rob about all things Doctor Who, twitter, his childhood memories of the show and much more.
A packed episode for you this week withJames, Leeson and Tom reviewing two recent DVD releases from 2entertain, collectively entitled ‘The UNIT Files’ Box Set.
Two stories make up this release, the Pertwee story Invasion of the Dinosaurs and the Tom Baker story The Android Invasion.
Michele also returns to the Campervan annex and talks about her time at the Gallifrey 23 convention.
With Trevor away in Sydney for a weekend of fun and frivolity Leeson, James and Tom tear open the mailbag and delve into the emails and mp3s you have sent in to us.
Of particular focus this episode is your thoughts on what you would like to see for the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who.
This is the concluding episode of the DWPs look at the longest serving Doctor Who producer, John Nathan-Turner.
Trevor and James take up where Tom and Leeson left off last week and talk about the work of JNT during the eras of the 6th and 7th Doctors.
Michele and Ian also provide the second half of their review of the John Nathan-Turner memoirs.
As everyone comes down off their post-Gallifrey 23 buzz, the team at The Doctor Who Podcast embarks on a mini project – over the next two episodes we will be looking at the era of John Nathan-Turner, the longest serving producer of Doctor Who, and a figure that has been the subject of equal parts derision and praise ever since he took on the role in the early 1980s.
In this episode Leeson and Tom look at how John Nathan-Turner came to take on the role of Producer, and his time on the show up to the end of the Peter Davison era.
Ian and Michele also review the first half of the JNT Memoirs, a release from Big Finish (sadly no longer available) where John Nathan-Turner shares his candid memories of his time on the show.
This episode brings us to the conclusion of our week long preview and review of the behemoth that is the Gallifrey convention.
In this episode Trevor shares his memories of attending Gallifrey 22.
To those going to Gallifrey 23, enjoy, have a great time and don’t forget to let The Doctor Who Podcast [email protected]“>know about your experiences.
Continuing our short series of podcasts on our memories of Gallifrey 22, Michele steps up to the microphone this episode and talks about her experiences at the 2011 convention.
If yesterday’s episode wasn’t enough to whet your appetite for the upcoming Gallifrey 23 convention, starting today for the next three days Michele, Trevor and James share their personal memories of attending Gallifrey 21 in 2010 and Gallifrey 22 in 2011.
Not so much reviews, more a trip down memory lane as they try and capture in audio their feelings and experiences attending the convention.
First up is James, who talks about his time at Gallifrey 21 and 22.
Self indulgent? Yes. Personal? Yes again. Guilty as charged.
Enjoy.
Trevor is joined by Michele and special guest Chip from the 2 Minute Timelord Podcast to preview the goings on at the biggest Doctor Who convention in the world, Gallifrey 23.
With over 1800 attendees already confirmed for this event, it promises to be an exciting weekend for Doctor Who fans.
The team go over the schedule and pick out their highlights.
Trevor, James and Tom congregate in the DWP campervan and discuss the vexing question of – Is Moffat delivering?
Two years of Doctor Who under the reign of Steven Moffat has brought us some of the most interesting stories in modern Doctor Who.
With that under his belt and the 50th anniversary season looming, the boys take a look at his time to answer this ultimate question.
Very exciting week here at the DWP Campervan as Trevor, Leeson and Ian kick back and review the new releases from the Big Finish range, Doctor Who audios featuring he of the long scarf and bags of confectionary, the fourth Doctor Tom Baker.
We have waited a very long time for Mr Baker to appear in a Big Finish audio. Just how did he fare?
The lost stories Foe from the Future and Valley of Death are reviewed, along with the first story from the regular season of new fourth Doctor adventures, Destination Nerva.
James and Ian were lucky enough to spend the day at the Big Blue Box Convention, and were lucky enough to secure some excellent coverage of the event.
One of the events at the convention was a screening of Cleaning Up, written by Simon Guerrier, who is heavily involved with the Big Finish range, and directed by Thomas Guerrier.
James caught up with Simon and chatted with him about this new short film.
Also in this episode are interviews with Tom Spilsbury, current editor of Doctor Who Magazine and Stephen Elsden, organiser of the Big Blue Box Convention.
At the end of a hectic day, James and Ian had the opportunity to chat to none other than Louise Jameson, best known as playing Leela from 70s Doctor Who alongside Tom Baker. She stars in Cleaning Up, and chatted to James about the film and her time on Doctor Who.
A big thanks to the Guerrier Brothers and Stephen Elsden for making The Doctor Who Podcast so welcome on the day and for the opportunity to secure these fantastic interviews.
Big Finish is again the subject of another exciting podcast from the DWP Towers this week as we delve into the latest McCoy threesome of releases from this most magnificent company.
Robophobia, The Doomsday Quatrain and House of Blue Fire has been obtained, listened to and disected. Just what will Trev, Leeson and James make of them?
You are most welcome to the latest episode of the Doctor Who Podcast.
Within this jam-packed podcast you will find an interview with writer Nev Fountain, he of Big Finish, Dead Ringers and Mervyn Stone Mysteries fame. Trevor had a chat with him about all things comedy, Doctor Who and sofas.
Michele and Ian review the Big Finish Companion Chronicle, Peri and the Piscon Paradox.
We read through your feedback for the 2011 Christmas special.
All this, and a major announcement that will shake the DWP to its very foundations. A little.
A new year dawns (Happy New Year to all our listeners!), so it must be time for the DWP to dust off their crystal balls again and make some grandiose and probably totally incorrect predictions for what will be happening in the world of Doctor Who in 2012.
We also rather foolishly review the predictions we made in Episode #59 about what was going to happen in 2011. Hear where we went dramatically wrong!
The DWP Team review the Doctor Who special for Christmas 2011 – The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe.
As the first part of the world enters Xmas 2011 (that would be Kiritimati, fact fans), the DWP releases its Christmas episode for 2011.
So many people to thank for their contributions to this years Christmas celebration. Leeson and Harry from the Radio Rassilon podcast for their song and contribution to the skit. Comedian and downright musical genius Ashley Frieze for his downright genius musical interlude.
And of course Ian, Michele, Harry, Steven, John, Tin Dog and Leeson for their Christmas wishes.
Enjoy this little slice of Christmas, DWP-style as you tuck into your turkey or pull your cracker.
Merry Christmas from the extended DWP family.
With the season of gift giving upon us, the DWP Campervan turns its thoughts towards Christmas, and how Doctor Who has celebrated the season across its entire run.
The DWP Team of Trevor, James and Tom welcome special guest Leeson from the Radio Rassilon podcast in discussing Doctor Who and its references to Christmas. From breaking the fourth wall in the Hartnell era to flying sharks in the Matt Smith era, its all there.
Ian and Michelle also drop by with reviews on the Big Finish entries into the yuletide spirit.
This week on the podcast we review two of the lost Sylvester McCoy stories released from Big Finish – Animal and Earth Aid.
We also have an interview with one of the stars from Earth Aid – Paterson Joseph – the Doctor who almost was.
A special episode from the Doctor Who Podcast this week to share the fantastic news that has just broken.
Two episodes from classic Doctor Who have been discovered and returned by the BBC Archives.
Galaxy Four, episode 3, part of William Hartnell’s third season, has been returned along with the second episode of a Patrick Troughton story, The Underwater Menace.
Trevor and James talk about these discoveries and the background to how they were returned.
The Cybermen, classic monsters who terrorised the Doctor during the run of the original series, returned for the new series rejuvenated, revitalised and reinvented for a modern audience.
The DWP Campervan plays host to the metal meanies this episode with Trevor, Tom and James discussing the rebirth of the Cybermen in the new series of Doctor Who.
Ian and Michelle also review a Cybermen story from the Big Finish range.
In April this year a great loss occurred in the Doctor Who community with the death of Elisabeth Sladen, perhaps better known as Sarah Jane Smith, companion to the Third and Fourth Doctors.
It was a loss so sudden, so unexpected, and revealed what a private person Elisabeth was. It is only now courtesy of her autobiography we are finding out more about this extraordinary woman.
The DWP Team pay tribute to Lis by talking about her time on Doctor Who, her work in the Sarah Jane Adventures, her foray into the world of Big Finish and other spin off media.
Spend some time with Sarah Jane this week.
What self respecting podcast doesn’t release an episode on November 23rd?
Certainly not The Doctor Who Podcast!
In this episode we have a chat about the rumours surrounding the Doctor Who movie. The Doctor Who convention in March 2012 comes under our piercing DWP gaze.
We draw the Simon Guerrier competition which we started in episode #108.
The Ark has recently been released on DVD, and Trevor and James take a look at what it has to offer.
This week was to have been our episode on the delightful Elisabeth Sladen, but unfortunately real life got in the way and James could not join us. We really wanted to do Lis justice and have all three of us in the campervan so we will postpone that episode for a very short while.
So, in the meantime, with a lack of anything to say about one of Doctor Who’s favourite companions, Trev and Tom settle back and have a geek out.
A what a wide ranging discussion it is – Voyage of the Damned, stunt casting, numeracy, Australian accents, accountancy and a whole lot of laughter.
Also the announcement of our competition just in time for Christmas.
During the London Riots earlier in the year, our very ownJames tried to find a quiet table and sit down with Simon Guerrier, a name that you might not all be familiar with but one that has been cropping up in the world of Doctor Who for many years now.
Simon has written for Big Finish for the Fifth and Seventh Doctors. Contributed stories to the Short Trips range. He has written original novels for the First and Tenth Doctors. Written comic strips. Made Bernice Summerfield come to life in the printed word. And produced some of the most fondly remembered documentaries which have featured on the 2Entertain range of classic series DVD releases.
In fact pretty much the only thing he HASN’T done is written for the new series.
Though that can’t be far away.
James had a fascinating chat with Simon, a man who has had such a submliminal effect on our enjoyment of Doctor Who. You might not know who he is, but after this interview, you will.
Time to delve into the wonderful universe of Big Finish at the Doctor Who Podcast.
The latest fifth Doctor trilogy of Heroes of Sontar, Kiss of Death and Rat Trap make their way across the DWP Campervan kitchen bench for us to slice, dice and boil down to its constituent parts.
We also announce another competition in which you can win some major prizes. We meant to announce this competition last week, but um, forgot. Sorry about that.
This episode is all about the reviews, as the DWP Campervan rips off the shrinkwrap from a couple of Doctor Who DVDs and Big Finish audios.
On the DVD front, Day of the Daleks and Paradise Towers are reviewed by Trevor, Tom and James.
And making their first appearance inside the DWP Campervan, DWP forum moderators Ian and Michelle review the Big Finish audio Find and Replace.
It has been a while since we have done one of these things, but The Doctor Who Podcast quiz is back!
Tom is quizmaster to a nervous Trevor and James, who are being assaulted under the barrage of ten exquisitely chosen questions courtesy, in part, from our wonderful listeners.
The DWP like nothing better than a good ‘ole geek out – a chance to let our hair down, sit back with a warm, or indeed cold beverage, and talk about whatever pops into our heads.
And that is exactly what we do in this episode. Unburdened by the shackles of BBC programming, Trevor and Tom geek out about a whole manner of things, far too lengthy to list here.
We also play an interview that ourJames had with writer Tom McRae, writer of the two part Cybermen story Rise of the Cybermen and Age of Steel. He also wrote The Girl Who Waited from this current season.
A truly bursting at the seams episode for your enjoyment!
Season 6 is over, the Doctor lives and Amy and Rory are reunited with their daughter and live happily ever after. What now?
We have received a lot of feedback for the last few stories of Series 6 which we just haven’t had the chance to play on the show. In this episode we attempt to rectify that.
We present to you a double length episode with feedback, spirited discussions, arguments, outlandish theories, explanations and a whole lot of laughter.
The Doctor Who Podcast – the podcast with the best set of teeth
They say good things come to those who wait, and we thank you for waiting patiently for this latest episode of what is simply the finest Doctor Who podcast in existence.
In this episode all three hosts review the season finale – The Wedding of River Song.
We also have a bit of a chat about the recent axing of Doctor Who Confidential.
Get your feedback about Series 6 in now, we want to know what you thought of it!
Closing Time brings us to the penultimate episode for Seres 6 of Doctor Who, and it falls to Trevor and Tom to discuss and share their thoughts on this story.
Not content with talking about the episode, they ended up talking about all manner of things other than the story itself!
Rest assured there are no spoilers for non-screened episodes, so please enjoy!
WithJames and Tom abandoning Trevor this week some extra special help was called upon to review The God Complex.
Chip from the Two Minute Timelord podcast answered the call to action and joins Trevor in the campervan for the review.
We also play your feedback from the last couple of stories.
With a title like The Girl Who Waited, it wasn’t hard to figure out who this episode would focus on.
Doctor Who presents us with another standalone episode, which Trevor, James and Tom share their thoughts on this week.
We also announce details of an exciting competition!
Whooverville 3 recently took place on Saturday 3rd September 2011 and The Doctor Who Podcast was there!
As where a lot of other podcasts, as part of the Doctor Who Podcast Alliance representation at the event.
OurJames, along with Michael from the Tin Dog Podcast and Luke from the Minute Doctor Who Podcast were lucky enough to interview 80s Who Girl herself, Nicola Bryant.
Enjoy this very interesting interview with the Doctor Who companion who travelled alongside not one, but two Doctors.
After checking the front door to make it was locked, leaving a light on and having the phone handy we settled down to watch Night Terrors, a creepy entry into the Season 6 lineup.
All three DWP hosts are in the campervan this week – Trevor, James and Tom. Hear what they have to say about this story.
Possibly the most misleading title in the history of Doctor Who (right up there with The Doctor’s Daughter, The Doctor’s Wife and The Happiness Patrol) Let’s Kill Hitler marks the return of Doctor Who to our screens for the second time in 2011.
James and Tom review this most interesting episode.
We also draw the winner of our competition from Episode 95.
Your feedback, as always, is welcome. Send it through to [email protected]“>[email protected].
Trevor and James are in prediction mode this episode and we take a look at the rumour, speculation and tasty titbits about the return of Doctor Who this coming weekend.
Warning to all listeners – we discuss what we have learnt about Series 6B, some is fact, some is rumour. But if you don’t want to be spoiled then we suggest you join us next week.
Torchwood episode 5 and 6 are reviewed.
We also draw the winner of our recent Paradise Towers DVD competition.
A quick glance at the Wikipedia entry for Joe Lidster will show that he knows his Doctor Who and related spinoffs.
He has written for Big Finish, Torchwood and Sarah Jane Adventures, as well as the Bernice Summerfield ranges. When he isn’t writing for them he is producing short stories on, you guessed it, Doctor Who.
This incredibly talented and busy man sat down with ourJames recently to talk all things Doctor Who.
I am sure you will find this a fascinating interview.
Our second episode for this week concludes the DWPs look at our favourite Doctor Who stories from each era of the show.
This episode starts with the umbrella carrying, question mark wearing 7th Doctor Sylvester McCoy, and finishes of course with the stetson sporting, custard loving 11th Doctor, Matt Smith.
We also review the latest episode of new Torchwood, episode 4.
In response to requests from many of our listeners the DWP presents the first part of our two-part nostalgia trip through the DWP hosts favourite Doctor Who stories.
Trevor, Tom and James will sort through each era of Doctor Who and pick out some of their personal favourites.
This episode we cover the first six Doctors. Watch out later in the week for the conclusion to our stroll down memory lane.
We also review the next episode of Torchwood, episode 3 of the current season.
Featured in this episode is a great song called “The Mind of Evil” from Billy Davies aka The White Robot, an awesome DWP listener in New York.
On the review front for this episode Trevor and James look at two classic era DVD releases from 2Entertain – The Awakening and Frontios. These oft neglected stories from Peter Davison’s final season as the Doctor have been given the DVD treatment and are ready to be appreciated by a whole new generation of fans.
We also take a look at the second episode from the new series of Torchwood, Miracle Day – Rendition.
Also in the show this week are some nice bits of audio feedback we have received recently. Keep them coming, we love it.
The exclusives just keep coming at The Doctor Who Podcast – this week we are proud to present to you an interview out Tom had with former Doctor Who script editor, Andrew Cartmel.
We also have an exclusive track from the new album by Alex Day, Still Got Legs. You might remember we interviewed Alex in Episode #38. He is back with a new album of wonderful Doctor Who parody songs. We hope you enjoy the taster we present in this episode for you.
James and Trevor are in review mode this week as they tackle a recent box set from those bods at 2Entertain.
The Mara Tales set, comprising the stories Kinda and Snakedance from the Peter Davison era have been released in a shiny cardboard case. James has already laid his cards on the table numerous times in professing his love for these two snakey stories, but what does Trev think?
We also take time to review the first episode from the new series of Torchwood.
Also included is a bit of left over rambling from a recent recording session – all to do with some thoughts on Series 6.
We also draw the winner of one of our recent competitions.
Quite a packed episode this week, a mixture of reviews and some cracking interviews, bringing to a close the second of our special Big Finish related episodes.
James and Trevor review the first two stories from Big Finish’s range of 7th Doctor “lost” stories – Thin Ice and Crime of the Century. These two stories were to kickstart the proposed Season 27 in 1990, before the axe of cancellation fell on the series and the entire season was abandoned.
Now Big Finish have lovingly created these scripts in audio format so all Doctor Who fans can hear what might have been if Doctor Who continued in its televised form into the 1990s.
Find out what the boys make of the first two offerings from this very special series of releases from Big Finish.
We also have interviews with Sophie Aldred, who played Ace alongside the Seventh Doctor, and also in these new Big Finish audios. Also on the interviewing roster is Beth Chalmers, who plays the new companion Raine Creevey.
Quite a packed little episode this week, the first of two over the coming weeks that focus on Big Finish.
James is alone in the campervan this episode where he reviews one of the latest trilogies from Big Finish, The Crimes of Thomas Brewster, The Feast of Axos and Industrial Revolution.
Also included in this episode are interviews with Mr Axon himself, Bernard Holley and Big Finish writer Johnny Morris.
A jam-packed show this week asJames comes back to the campervan, having brought back from his holiday a lovely little painted shell from the seaside.
James shares his thoughts on the Doctor Who Experience with his co-host from the Dad’s Army Podcast, Oliver Crocker. Just what will you, ah, experience at the Doctor Who Experience?
We also review a book by author Alwyn W Turner, The Man Who Invented the Daleks. As the title cunningly says, it is a book about the life and times of Terry Nation, who contributed to Doctor Who and a wealth of other British genre shows.
We also have some copies of the book to give away in our most fiendish competition yet! Thanks go to Ross from the Creeping with Armstrong podcast for donating an additional prize as well.
Tom is all alone in the campervan this week so he dug into the mailbag to see what you have been sending our way regarding Series 6 Doctor Who.
And you have been very busy! Thanks so much for all your thoughts and comments.
Tom attempts to make a sizeable hole in the mountain of envelopes and emails as we listen to what our listeners thought of the second year of Matt Smith and Co.
Well, the good man has gone off to war (or has he), and has left the DWP Campervan at a sligthly loose end about just what to do for the next few months until he returns.
Luckily Chip from the Two Minute Timelord Podcast has some ideas on what we can occupy ourselves with, and in this episode he gets together with our Tom to provide some much needed analysis to what we have seen so far this year.
Join Chip and Tom for some fascinating insights and theories on just what this is all about.
Well, the time has finally come, our review of a Good Man Goes to War (aka The Only New Doctor Who You Will Be Getting For A While Thankyou Very Much)
Trevor, James and Trevor share their thoughts on this episode, which as is par for the course these days, some questions get answered and some don’t.
The DWP Campervan is alive with dopplegangers this week as the combined mental powers of twinJames‘s, Trevs and Toms pass their opinion on The Rebel Flesh.
So it’s time to see what the fans thought of the latest two offerings from Series 6 – Curse of the Black Spot and The Doctor’s Wife. But it was a task that was too difficult for the DWP to tackle soJames got together with Steven from the Radio Free Skaro podcast to see if they could work it out.
As well as the usual scintilating banter about ratings and AI levels, we listen to and read out your feedback as well! Get stuck in!
Roll up roll up, what is my bid for this lovely bit of merchandise? The Doctor’s wife – only 52.7 trillion miles on her, and doesn’t she look good? Looks like she just stepped out of the showroom!
See over there, the Doctor Who Podcast review team ready to cast their appraisal over this fine offering today! Have a listen to what they have to say, then come back and place a bid for this once in a lifetime opportunity!
James was lucky enough to speak with Tom Spilsbury, current editor of Doctor Who Magazine recently.
James covered Tom’s time with the magazine, and also discusses the recent controversy of spoilergate which has rocketed through the Doctor Who online community.
Join James in what is a fascinating chat with the man who holds the reigns of what many regard as the bible of Doctor Who information.
There is also a competition in which you can win a very special prize indeed!
Season 6 keeps barrelling along and with a yo ho ho we come to the third episode – Curse of the Black Spot. Trevor, James and Tom discuss the merits and otherwise of this story.
We also play some feedback we have already received about this very episode!
It is all very well and good for the fine folk in the DWP Campervan to rabbit on about the episodes, but what do you out there think? Trevor has the campervan all to his own this episode and covers the fan reaction to the first two episodes of the season.
And something a little different this episode we eavesdrop on a few fellow podcasters shows to find out what they thought of the episodes as well. So, if you like what you hear, please check out these fine shows – Two-Minute Time Lord, DWO WhoCast, Radio Free Skaro and The Oodcast. Well worth your time for a download and listen.
In this episode we read out and listen to the amazing amount of feedback we have received from you over the past few weeks – keep it coming everyone!
The resolution (or is it?) to many of the perplexing questions raised by the season opener are within Day of the Moon.James and Tom try to make sense of it all and pass judgement on this episode.
What else would any self-respecting Doctor Who podcast be doing straight after Easter. Why, reviewing The Impossible Astronaut of course! The DWP is no different, and it is with a spring in our step and a thrill coursing our entire bodies that we review the season opener.
We also announce the winners of a couple of competitions we have had going over the past month.
With the premiere of Season 6 just around the corner (my gosh it’s exciting, isn’t it?) Tom and James sift through the mountain of rumours, heresay, facts, whispers and information surrounding what we are in for.
Needless to say, this episode is crammed with spoilers, both confirmed and unconfirmed. If you are in any way allergic to them, play this episode in about six weeks time.
This episode was recorded shortly before we learnt about the sad passing of Elisabeth Sladen. A proper tribute episode will be released in a few weeks.
Fresh from their victory and humiliating defeat at the Gallifrey 22 convention, the DWP team decided it was time to pit their wits against each other again, and hence the DWP Quiz 9 was born.
Trevor is quizmaster this time around and he has come up with some fiendish questions to pit against Tom and James.
The arena is set, the players are ready, the half time oranges are cut and ready to go. The only question is, are you, the listener, ready for this goliath-like battle?
The Big Finish Machine keeps on rolling…..and so does The Doctor Who podcast! Join James and Tom as they take a look at the recent 7th Doctor, Ace and Hex trilogy, Project Destiny, A Death in the Family and Lurkers at Sunlights Edge. James also interviews Steven Hall, the writer A Death in the Family – the most talked about Big Finish play in recent years. We also launch yet another competition with a rather nifty little prize and go through some of the oodles of feedback all you nice listeners have been sending in.
Let us know what you think of the episode by getting in touch with us at [email protected] – and be sure to join us next week for our Season Six preview!
Well, The Aztecs stand even today as one of the most shining examples of Doctor Who. It is a story that fulfils Doctor Who’s original mandate to educate, whilst at the same time it entertains.
This story has always been a firm favourite of the DWP, and we devote our episode to talking about it. We also have an interview with one of the cast from, Ian Cullen, who played Ixta.
In this episode we look at a side of Doctor Who that isn’t discussed very much – the partners of devoted Doctor Who fans.
Whilst we are all away at conventions, producing podcasts, watching DVDs, knitting scarfs and submitting scripts, just what do our partners do and what do they think of our obsession?
We bring in opinions from all over the globe, courtesy of podcasting friends.
We like talking about Big Finish audios here in the DWP Campervan – over the years they have produced some fantastic stories, featuring the vocal talents of the 5th-8th Doctors.
We thought it was about time to talk about Big Finish themselves. How have they fared since there beginnings during the Doctor Who “wilderness” years in 1999, through to their triumphant releases today.
What do Big Finish do well, what can they do better, and what do we want more of. A lively discussion indeed on a company that has truly carried the flag for Doctor Who for nearly 12 years.
To cap the show off, Tom was lucky enough to interview David Richardson, line producer on the Big Finish range. Tom talked to him about his work for Big Finish.
In what is the DWPs last bit of Gallifrey 22 coverage, we present the epic quiz showdown between the DWP and the Oodcast.
It was early on Sunday morning, and a hushed silence fell over the convention area as the arena was set for the epic battle of wills between the two mighty podcasts.
Presented by master of ceremonies Clayton Hickman have a listen now to what is a truly memorable chapter in not only DWP quiz history, but will go down in the annals of Gallifrey history as something rather special. Laid it on thick enough for you?
Trevor and James made it back safe and sound to Australia and the UofK after their mammoth Gallifrey 22 convention experience, which took place in LA in late February.
They shared with an eager and incredibly jealous Tom their experiences over that weekend.
Did any of you attend Gallifrey and want to share your thoughts? Send them in to [email protected].
No sooner had the recent Gallifrey 22 convention finished that we heard of the sad passing of Nicholas Courtney, most famous for playing Brigadier Alastair Lethbridge Stewart in the classic series of Doctor Who.
Nicholas gave so much to the program whilst playing the Brig that it would be remiss if we did not spend some time looking at the his contribution to Doctor Who.
Join us as we reminisce over the life and times of Nicholas Courtney.
WhilstJames and Trevor were at the Gallifrey convention recently, they challenged the fine folk at the Staggering Stories Podcast to a quiz showdown.
So, in the early morning of a typical Gallifrey convention day, the stage was set. Two teams, a set of microphones, and a willing and eager audience ready to cheer their side on to victory.
Hosted and presented by quizmaster Chip from the Two-Minute Time Lord Podcast, listen now to the two leviathians going head to head to claim the ultimate prize of quiz champion.
This week it is our great pleasure to bring you an interview with a man you may be familiar with. He holds the record as the longest serving editor of Doctor Who Magazine. He has written for Big Finish, The Sarah Jane Smith Adventures and Comic Relief. When he isn’t writing, he is contributing covers to the Big Finish audio range, or the 2Entertain range of DVDs. In his spare time he moderates the DVD commentaries on such releases as The Time Meddler and Frontier in Space.
He found time in his diary to speak toJames on an incredible variety of subjects, presented here in an hour long interview.
This is the last episode of the Doctor Who Podcast for the next two weeks or so. Trevor and James will be in Los Angeles this week at the Gallifrey 22 convention. As well as meeting each other face to face for the first time, they hope to secure interviews for you with the guests.
For those going to the convention, come up and say hi and get a Doctor Who Podcast ribbon (today at the convention, tomorrow on eBay!).
Tom and Trevor go over your feedback on a variety of subjects such as, who is River Song, The Christmas Special and just how awesome is Trevor (note – one of those topics may be incorrect).
When we are not recording the latest amazing episode of The Doctor Who Podcast, the titanic trio are on the DWP forums marvelling at a thread that has grown, Krynoid like, since Matt Smith took over the reigns as the Doctor.
The thread in question is the Who is River Song thread. In this magic part of the forum, our members have been wondering, discussing and disecting various theories, information and flights of fancy over who the character of River Song really is.
We thought it was time the podcast weighed in our ideas as well as discussing the ideas already present.
To round off the episode, James and Trevor review the DVD release for a classic Tom Baker story, The Seeds of Doom.
Keep those questions for the Gallifrey convention quiz showdown, details of who to send them to are in this episode.
It is our great pleasure to bring you at The Doctor Who Podcast an interview with Wilfred Mott himself, Bernard Cribbins.James was lucky enough to speak to him recently.
Bernard’s time with Doctor Who stretches back as far as the second Dalek movie – Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150AD, all the way up to his most memorable Who role as Wilfred Mott, grandfather and sometime comapnion to the David Tennant Doctor.
In the rest of the podcast, Tom and James geek out about companion mix ups. What if Adric was a companion to the 9th Doctor? How would Nyssa fare alongside the Matt Smith Doctor?
Gallifrey 22 is not far away, and the DWP team needs your help! Full details are in the show.
When is a news episode now a news episode?
When its a DWP news episode!
Tom and James look over the news from the world of Doctor Who, but find plenty of time for some divergence into other topics as well.
We warm up our crystal balls and get our tarot cards ready – it’s the DWP predictions for 2011!
Trevor, James and Tom have come armed to the campervan with three predictions on what will occur in the Doctor Who world in 2011.
Save this episode for this time next year, when you can play it again and laugh at how wrong each of the team are!
With Trevor now firmly ensconced back in the campervan, it was time to take a dip into the mailbag and read out and listen to the feedback we have received concerning the latest Christmas special.
Our thanks to all the listeners that took the time to send in their thoughts.
Well, its certainly turning into a busy week at the DWP Campervan!
Trevor is back, and he has some things to say about the Christmas Special!
Stay tuned also later this week for an episode devoted to your feedback on the Christmas Special.
The first offering from the DWP Campervan for 2011 is the latest instalment in the mighty tussle that is the DWP Quiz.
Trevor, the perennial loser, is quizmaster again, relishing with gleeful delight his temporary power ofJames and Tom.
A titanic struggle of the wills not to be missed. Please note – this episode was recorded in late December 2010.
Now what else would any self-respecting Doctor Who podcast be doing this time of year?
Apart from fighting over the last scraps of christmas turkey and filling the recycle bins to overflowing with paper, James and Tom also review the Doctor Who christmas special for 2010, cunningly titled A Christmas Carol
Xmas comes early to the listeners of the Doctor Who Podcast as we present to you our little bit of Christmas cheer, all wrapped up in a bite size mp3.
This episode is extra special – we invited along some special guests to help pop some crackers and eat some turkey.
It is our great pleasure to welcome to the campervan the members of the Oodcast along with comedian and Doctor Who fan Ashley Frieze.
We hope you enjoy the simply wondeful offerings in this special episode of the DWP. And if you are still hungry for more, make sure you check out the Oodcast, and the comedy stylings of Ashley Frieze, you will not be disappointed!
Merry Xmas and a happy and bountiful new year to all the listeners of the Doctor Who Podcast. We hope you enjoy Matt Smith and Co in a few short days!
Chip and James are in the campervan this week reviewing the stories that comprise the first half of the new 8th Doctor season of stories from Big Finish.

All these stories are available for purchase now via the Big Finish website. Get a great Xmas gift for that special Doctor Who fan in your life!
James is in the campervan with Chip from the 2 Minute Timelord podcast this week to discuss what has happened on the Doctor Who news front.
A very exciting episode this week for you. We have managed to secure an interview with Rob Shearman and Toby Hadoke, authors of a new book from the fine bods atMad Norwegian Press.
It is called Running Through Corridors, and it chronicles the adventures of two insane Doctor Who fans who decided to watch one episode of Doctor Who, per day and is available now, from Mad Norwegian Press. Listen in the episode for your chance to win a copy of the book!
All the way from the beginning.
The very beginning, in 1963.
Watch them all, then say something nice about every episode.
No small feat I am sure you will agree!
Toby and Rob chat with Chip from the 2 Minute Timelord podcast, who stepped in to help us out with the interview. Thanks Chip!
As a companion piece to this episode, hop on over to the 2 Minute Timelord website and listen to Chip’s review of the book in his show, Episode 178.
Tom and James continue to dominate the caravan this week and take the opportunity to wrap their ears around some of the latest offerings fromBig Finish.
This episode sees the boys review the Turlough/Tegan/Nyssa trilogy of stories – Cobwebs, The Whispering Forest and The Cradle of the Snake. This trilogy sees the return of the trio of companions that delighted us during the Black Guardian trilogy of stories of the classic series.
Just one question… where’s Trev?
Tom and James are the dynamic duo in the campervan this week as they crack open the mailbag and cover the feedback we have received over the past month or so.
A lot of subjects to cover, and added to that a lot of the usual witter, urbane banter from the boys!
Thank you so much for all your feedback, we love hearing from you. Keep it coming!
It certainly has been a busy week here at DWP Towers, quizzes and commentary tracks keeping the 50th episode celebration week ticking nicely along.
We have saved the best for last though – episode 50 is now yours to enjoy, and there is a lot to enjoy in this little file!
First up is an interview with the Seventh Doctor and soon to be Lord of the Rings Wizard, Sylvester McCoy.
Tom was lucky enough to have a bit of a chat with McCoy in his recent trip to the Big Finish studios. We think you will find this interview unlike any other you have heard from him.
Back in the studio, the boys review the Seventh Doctor’s first adventure, now unleashed on DVD – Time and the Rani. This much maligned story has been given the 2Entertain deluxe DVD treatment and we look at the release and the story itself.
Thank you to all our amazing listeners out there who have stuck with the show since it began. You are what makes this show what it is and we thank you. Here’s to another 50! 100! 200!

We promised you a big week for our 50th podcast celebrations, and my goodness we are going to give you a big week!

Well, The War Games just happens to be… the 50th story of classic Who!First transmitted 21st June 1969, this episode is an important milestone for so many reasons in the history of Doctor Who. It saw the end of the second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe, the end of the black and white era, and the beginning of a whole new era for the program.

Also, for attentive listeners, there is a super extra complimentary bonus bit of content this episode! Gosh we treat you guys well!
AfterJames and Trevor discuss a bit of news that took their fancy recently, they switch to review mode and take a look at the Kamelion Tales box set, a box set comprising The Kings Demons and Planet of Fire.
By a staggering coincidence, these two stories chronicle the sum total contribution the fifth Doctor companion Kamelion provided to Doctor Who during his entire year.
We talk about these two stories and also what you can expect in this release.
Big Finish have expanded their already impressive range of Doctor Who-related audios with the release of Jago and Litefoot – Season 1. Henry Gordon Jago and Professor Litefoot are two characters fondly remembered from the Tom Baker story The Talons of Weng-Chiang.
So popular were they that they have been given their own audio series to explore the seedy underbelly of Victorian England.
James and Trevor review the four story first season.
We also have an interview with Henry Gordon Jago himself, Christopher Benjamin. Our thanks go to Luke from the The Minute Doctor Who Podcast for stepping in at the last minute and helping us out with this interview.
The DWP couldn’t let the recent BFI screening of the Sarah Jane Adventures story Death of the Doctor pass without comment. The media frenzy and associated fan reaction to the revelations in this episode need to be discussed, clarified and explained. Delve within to find out what the fuss is about.
A very big episode for you this week, focused entirely on New Who. First up is a review of the audio book The Runaway Train, read by Matt Smith and given away free with the Daily Telegraph a few months back.James got a day pass and went to see Doctor Who Live, and he shares his experience with us. To round off the episode, we have a fantastic interview with Ian McNeice, the man who brought Winston Churchill so vividly to life in the Matt Smith story Victory of the Daleks.
It is time once again to pit the mighty minds of the DWP against each other and see who is victorious.
With the help of our listeners, Trev poses 10 mighty questions to James and Tom.
Who will be the winner and who will be left crying into their warm milk?
After spending a few very fruitful weeks in the 1960s the campervan lands back in the present with a resounding vworp vworp and covers the news from recent times.
Also stay tuned at the end of the episode for a special request for any of our listeners that live in the San Francisco area…
Part 3 of our Troughton retrospective brings us to the conclusion of our look at the mighty second Doctor.
In this episode, Tom and Trevor cover Troughton’s last regular season as the Doctor, and also the anniversary stories Three Doctors, Five Doctors and the Colin Baker team up Two Doctors.
We also talk about the depiction of the Troughton Doctor in books an audio.
Come join us for the conclusion to this incredible look at the second Doctor.
Fresh from his decisive victory in the last quiz, Tom acts as quizmaster for this episode and pits his devilish questions for Trevor and James. Who will win, who will lose? Thanks to all the listeners who sent in questions so far, keep them coming!
Last time, on the DWP….
Trevor and Tom began their look at the second Doctor, and got as far as the end of his first season. In this episode we move onto his second, and arguably most popular season to see what lies within.
We also hear fromJames, and Luke from theMinute Doctor Who Podcast with a review of the DVD release of the Troughton story, The Dominators.
If there was a Doctor that many commentators said inspired Matt Smith in the creation of his Doctor’s persona, it was one Patrick Troughton, the second Doctor.
Trevor and Tom explore the era of this most brilliant of Doctors in the first part of our retrospective of his work before, during and after his time on Doctor Who.
In this first part, we look at his time before Doctor Who, and cover his first season in 1966.
Stay tuned, for later in the week we release the second part of our series on Patrick Troughton, the cosmic hobo.
Tom and James went on a works outing last week up to the wilds of Derbyshire to see what was going on at Whooverville 2, the convention that boasts being the only such event run in an engine shed. And they are right (we checked).
Tom was lucky enough to be the on-stage interviewer for second Doctor companion and all round screamer Deborah Watling. Deborah played Victoria Waterfield alongside the 2nd Doctor from 1967-1969. With the kind permission of the Whooverville bods we bring that interview to you in this episode.
The boys also managed to back Sophie Aldred (or Ace to her legions of fans) into a corner and ask her some questions. And to round off the day, Tom intimidated a Dalek.
What better way to continue on after Quiz No. 1 and move onto Quiz No. 2? The team had so much fun doing the first one, that we recorded another one.
In this quiz Trevor is the quizmaster for Tom and James.
Who will win? Who will shout rigged the most?
Back for another episode of geeking out at the DWP. The trio muse over a ton of interesting subjects in this podcast. To reveal them here would be cheating. Dive in, the waters warm!
Something a little different from the DWP. Today marks the release of the first of the DWP quizzes, a semi-regular release in addition to our regular podcast.
In these episodes, the mighty brains of the DWP Campervan (Trevor, James and Tom… no really, it is Trevor, James and Tom) will take turns at being master of ceremonies and pose questions to the other two.
In this episode, James quizzes Trevor and Tom. The winner of this titanic tussle playsJames in the second round.
See how many questions you can get right!
And you the listener can help out by sumbitting questions for future contests. Listen to the episode to find out more details
James and Tom are in the campervan this week and take the opportunity to review a recent 2Entertain release, the Cybermen box set.
This set contains two classic era Cybermen stories – Revenge of the Cybermen and Silver Nemesis.
Tune in to find out what the boys think of this release.
A very packed episode this week. First up is an interview with Alex Day, musician and pioneer of Trock, Time Lord Rock. We talk about the whole Trock movement, and listen to a few of Alex’s tracks.
Next up is an interview with Peter Jewell, who has emptied his cupboard of all his Doctor Who memorabilia and put them on display for all to see. Trevor talks with Peter about collection, collections and what to collect.
Last up this episode is a piece we couldn’t quite squeeze into last weeks Big Finish review ep. In response to a listener email the team lay their cards on the table and talk about their favourite Big Finish audios, and the audios a new listener needs to get their ears around, pronto!
With no new Doctor Who to keep us busy, thank goodness that Big Finish keep providing us with audio releases to delight our ears during these lean months.
The team focuses their attention to reviewing three audios that saw the return of Jamie McCrimmon to the Doctor Who universe. City of Spires, Wreck of the Titan and Legend of the Cybermen.
We also have a fantastic interview thatJames conducted with Barnaby Edwards. Whilst he talks about his involvement with this trilogy, he also shares some hightlights of his extensive CV. We would put a copy of his CV up for you to look at, but it would overload the internet.
Tom and Trevor are in the caravan this week and thought it was time for the DWP to start one of their quite famous geek outs.
We did then quite a lot back when we were with the DWO WhoCast, so it only seems fitting to start them on the DWP.
We discuss the recent release of the Creature from the Pit DVD, the Doctor Who proms, and just what is a companion?
We also try and stump each other with some devlishly difficult Doctor Who quiz questions.
Tom finds himself alone in the campervan this week and takes the opportunity to blow the dust and cobwebs off an interview he recorded at the Fab Cafe event in Manchester in June.
Fab Cafe is a wonderful little bar/convention location which occasionally plays host to guests from the world of Doctor Who. Tom was lucky enough to speak to a few of the guests, and it is our pleasure to present more in this episode of the DWP. Check out Episode 18 of The Doctor Who Podcast for more from this event.
In this ep Tom talks to Ryan Hendrick, who is the driving force behind a superb new fan film, Besieged. Tom talks with him about how he put it together, and some promising news for the future.
We have ignored the news over the past few months or so whilst we concentrated on Season 5, so we rectify that with this episode.
We bring you all the news thats fit to print, from the worlds of Sarah Jane Smith, Torchwood, Big Finish and a little show called Doctor Who.
Trevor and James go it alone in the campervan this week and finish their exhaustive at the latest season of Doctor Who.
We cover many topics. from the kids perspective on the season to just how hot is River Song? The big issues are covered in this episode, yes siree!
Now it is all done and dusted the DWP team can sit back and take it all in and discuss our overall reaction to Season 5. Trevor, Tom and James cover a variety of subjects in this episode, and play some of the excellent feedback we have received.
It is hard to believe the season is over, no more weekly Doctor Who fix! Tom and Trevor spend a bit of time in the campervan going over the fan reaction to the season finale, The Big Bang. We see what the forums are saying, play listener feedback and offer our thoughts on this story.
Trevor, Tom and James review The Big Bang, the final episode of the first season of Matt Smith’s Doctor.
James and Trevor together in the campervan for this episode to discuss the fan reaction to The Pandorica Opens. We share our thoughts, your thoughts, play some listener feedback and some predictions for just what The Big Bang will have in store for us on Saturday night.
The end of the season is upon us, so it seems only fitting to devote an extra long podcast to the analysis of the penultimate story from Season 5 – The Pandorica Opens.
Trev, Tom and James are in the campervan standing by to share their thoughts with you about the episode that reveals so much, but hints at so much more.
Get your thoughts in for our feedback episode, quick!
Marty, James and Dave from theHoo on Who podcast are in for this episode to talk about the fan reaction to The Lodger.
The DWP Campervan is barely big enough to contain the collected reviewing might this episode of Trevor, Tom and Marty as the boys review Doctor Who’s ode to sharehouse living – The Lodger.
With Trevor still relaxing the life of the relaxed on some sun drenched beach, it is left toJames and Tom to talk about the fan reaction to Vincent and the Doctor.
The boys share their thoughts, see what you think, and also play feedback on the episode from our listeners.
With Trevor taking a well earned break this week it is left to Tom and James to discuss the latest Doctor Who episode, Vincent and the Doctor. Luke from theMinute Doctor Who Podcast joins the dynamic duo in their review of this story.
In other news, The Doctor Who Podcast is also happy to announce the upcoming release of a fantastic new book from the bods atMad Norwegian Press.
Running Through Corridors is a three volume series by Rob Shearman and Toby Hadoke. Rob and Toby spent 2009 watching Doctor Who, two episodes a day, every day. Every episode from Ian Chesterton’s wonderment at the TARDIS in 1963 all the way through to David Tennant’s swan song on New Years Day 2010. Running Through Corridors is a journal of that experience.
Volume 1 of this series is being released in December 2010. The DWP will be featuring interviews with Rob and Toby as well as reviews of the book over the coming months. We will also have copies to give away of this exciting new book.

Marty from theBox Room Podcast has as his special guest in the Doctor Who Podcast Campervan this episode Trevor from The Doctor Who Podcast.
Confused? We certainly were!
Marty, whose dulcet tones once graced the DWO WhoCast. Marty, who can be heard each and every episode telling our listeners where to send their feedback, and where the website is. He triumphantly returns for this fan reaction episode to the episode Cold Blood
The ahem…. Three Who Rock are back in the campervan for this podcast to review the episode Cold Blood.
Also stick around at the end of the episode for the announcement of a brand new competition, a competition unlike any other unleashed on a Doctor Who podcast before!

First up is Rob Shearman, most notably the writer of the episode that brought the Eccleston Doctor face to face with the Daleks. He has also written for Big Finish and recorded audio commentaries for the official DVD box set releases.
