For Toy Story's 30th anniversary, we’re diving deep into the film and studio that changed animation forever—but also how Pixar itself evolved from a revolutionary indie disruptor into a corporate franchise machine. We’ll explore Pixar’s early era, where its films tackled bold political and existential themes—from A Bug’s Life's working-class rebellion to WALL-E's anti-consumerist dystopia—before shifting, post-Disney acquisition, into a safer, identity-driven storytelling model that trades larger commentaries for more safe formulas. Then, we’ll break down the Toy Story franchise as a whole before going deep on the original masterpiece. We forgot to discuss the evolution of 2D to 3D CGI and how the oncoming AI boom and those two pieces of history connect, but I'm sure we'll do another animated film in the near future!
