The Farm Family Table⏐Homesteading, Homemaking, Christian Mom
New Do you desire a simpler, healthier lifestyle for your family but just feel stuck in the hustle of busy mom life? Do you wish there was an easy way to start homesteading without immediately feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or not good enough?
Hi, I’m Jocelyn, and I’m so excited you’re here at The Farm Family Table. I remember when I became a new mom, I wanted to set my child up for their best, healthiest life, but often I felt exhausted and discouraged. I wanted to provide the best food, from-scratch, and be more self-reliant, but it felt impossible to balance learning new skills, taking care of my home, and spending quality time with my kids. I felt overwhelmed by all the things I wanted and needed to do, and felt guilty when I couldn’t keep up. I compared myself to picture-perfect farm life on social media, only to feel like I’m not doing enough but not sure how to do more. This was not the life God had planned for me.
But then I discovered a secret to start homesteading the easy way for less stress, more joy, and more time focusing on what matters most, faith and family. What if I told you, there’s a way that you can achieve healthy balance and thrive in this lifestyle that God is calling you to?
Want to learn how?
Inside this podcast, you will find:
– Encouragement for creating a homestead with God at the center
– Resources for building knowledge in homesteading skills like cooking from scratch, gardening, food preservation, and raising animals

I can’t wait for you to join me on this journey, so we can slow down, put God and our families first, and enjoy a more simple, natural, self-sufficient lifestyle. My prayer is that you leave this podcast encouraged in Christ and equipped with practical knowledge for your homestead.

Cooking from scratch is rewarding - you know exactly what you are feeding your family, you can be proud of what you actually made yourself, but it’s also exhausting at times, especially when you are feeding a family every single day, sometimes multiple times a day. It truly is an endless cycle that takes time and energy. It can be easy to start feeling burned out and just want a break, but the reality is, people need to eat and you don’t necessarily just want to throw nutrition out the window and order frozen pizzas or throw your budget to the wind and start eating out a lot more frequently. Today, I want to talk about kitchen burnout, how you can pull yourself out of the slump if you feel like you’re already there, and give you some meal prep tricks to keep your kitchen routine simple, effective, and enjoyable.
I pray that you find this episode encouraging today that if you are burned out in the kitchen, you don’t have to stay stuck there. There are practical things you can do to lessen your workload without sacrificing homemade meals. And, at the end of the day, it all comes back to mindset - finding purpose in the work that you do and making the shift to see working in your kitchen as a blessing to your family rather than one more chore. As 1 Corinthians 10:31 tells us, “Do everything for the glory of God.” That includes homemade meals for the ones we love!

If you have looked at ingredient labels lately, you might have noticed that seed oils - sunflower, soybean, corn, cottonseed, sometimes just under the name vegetable oil, are in just about everything, but there is still a lot of controversy about how these oils affect our health. In today’s episode we are diving into the world of nourishing, traditional fats, why they matter, how to use them in everyday cooking, where to source them, and how to make the switch without blowing your family’s grocery budget. This episode will give you the practical tips you need to make real, wholesome fats an essential part of your family’s diet.
I hope this episode helps you find healthy, affordable fats that work for your family. This is not an issue that we should stress about, but just make the effort to make healthy swaps when we can. When you make a point to cook from scratch and eat more at home, incorporating healthy fats into your own home cooking can make such a big difference in the grand scheme of things. I pray that God would ultimately give you peace as you dive into switching to healthier fats. Thank you so much for joining me!

Do you feel like there’s never enough time to work on your homesteading goals? Between kids, meals, cleaning, and all your other responsibilities, it can feel like there is absolutely no room left. The key to making progress on your homestead, even when your days are busy, is to make small intentional steps each day, using daily habits to help you grow and improve your homestead one day at a time. Avoid overwhelm and burnout by shifting your mindset that you can do this, growing your homesteading slowly, steadily, just 1% at a time.
I hope that this episode encourages you that you can do this homesteading journey. It might take time, you might have to rethink your routines and how you use your time, you might have to let some of your own standards go, but if you keep at it, putting one foot in front of the other each day, you will be able to build your homestead 1% at a time. And when you look back in a year or two, you will be so proud of the work you’ve put in and how far you’ve come. For those of you that may have been struggling with some discouragement or burnout, I pray that this episode gives you new perspective and you are able to find renewed strength with your homesteading journey, knowing that it really doesn’t all have to happen tomorrow. And really not the next day or the day after that. Thank you so much for joining me!

It’s that time again, we are turning a page into a new year and with that comes some new goals. And I’m not just talking about new year's resolutions that get broken after the first month. I’m talking about well-thought out goals that give actionable steps, followed throughout the year so you can look back and see how much progress you’ve made when the year is done. But, maybe like me, you’re feeling a bit stuck in your goal setting, because there are things that you want to do, but your goals seem so unachievable with little kids at home. How could you possibly learn or take on something new on top of caring for these littles ones? Today, I want to share some encouragement on how we can learn new things and achieve both our personal and homesteading goals even as busy moms with little kids.
I hope that you find this episode inspiring towards what the new year might bring for your family. And just a reminder during this process, let go of the guilt and the comparison in your goal setting. Set goals that are realistic for you in the season and circumstances that God has placed you in. Focus on the task that God has placed in front of you for this year, and be proud of your own accomplishments as you work towards creating a better life for yourself and your family this year. I pray that God would give you wisdom in the areas you should work towards and that you can use goal setting to reduce overwhelm when it comes to building your homestead. Have you ever stopped to think of how dependent we are on supply chain for just about everything, from groceries, to household essentials? It can be kind of a scary thought to think about what would happen if we couldn’t just go to the store and get what we need when we need it. We have become so dependent on our system that we very rarely think about these things, but if something were to happen that would disrupt supply chain, what would happen to your family? Would you be prepared? Would you be able to extend help and compassion to others that were less prepared? Today, in today’s episode, I share 3 ways that we can stop relying on supply chain and become more self-sufficient, so we can have confidence in knowing that we have done our own diligence to be prepared for whatever life has in store.
I hope you find this episode really helpful in showing you how you can take steps towards self-sufficency. I pray that God would give you peace in knowing that he is the ultimate provider and we don’t need to worry about what the future holds for us. Thank you so much for joining me!

When you go to the grocery store, what influences what you buy? What looks good? What’s on sale? What about what’s in season? We live in a world where we can get strawberries in December and squash in June, and our culture has really lost touch with a natural pattern of eating with the seasons. Today we are going to explore the concept of seasonal eating to transform your grocery budget, your health, and the way you think about food. I’m going to challenge some cultural norms and break down why seasonal eating is still valuable to us, and what seasonal eating looks like for our family.
I hope this episode inspires you to give more seasonal-eating a try, whether from your own garden or just being intentional about how you select foods from the store. There is something so exciting about each season when it brings new foods and flavors to your meals.

What do you think of when you think of your dream homestead? Have you ever felt stuck in comparison? What about homestead mom comparison? Regular mom comparison, or mom guilt, is bad enough, but I think there is something even more toxic about homestead mom comparison. Thinking that you will never be good enough unless you can accomplish all the homesteady things like growing all your own food, raising animals, never eating processed foods or snacks, using only natural products, having a beautiful clean farmstyle home, eating 100% organic, baking everything yourself, homeschooling, not to mention looking good and being in good health. That list is not only exhausting but totally unrealistic, and deep down we know it but still fall into the trap of holding ourselves to that standard. If you feel tired of not living up to what you think your homestead should be, get ready because today we are going to learn to find grace and press into God’s truth when we feel less than in a world of seemingly perfect motherhood.
I hope this episode is what you need to hear today and that it encourages you so much. I pray that this episode will help you move past mom guilt and experience true joy in your homestead through God’s grace. Thanks for joining me!
